Declining Nation: Disgusting “Dexter” Snuff Film Comes to CBS (Yet, No Libs Whining About “24”-Style Torture)

By Debbie Schlussel
In late 2006, I was scheduled to be on an ESPN show with Michael C. Hall, the actor who plays “Dexter”–on the eponymous hit Showtime series. The show was canceled, and, thankfully, I never met up with this creepy conspirator in the further coarsening of America.
After hearing rave upon rave about the “Dexter” series, I watched the entire first season on DVD over the holidays. I was thoroughly disgusted at this depraved, nauseating show about a police blood splatter expert who is also a serial killer. (And this program is schlocky, amateurish, and boring, too.) The disturbing news: CBS will now broadcast “Dexter,” beginning Sunday Night.
“Dexter” is nothing more than a multi-episode snuff film. The ruse that gives it a phony “kosher seal of approval” is that those “Dexter” slices to death are, themselves, bad people–drunk drivers, child molesters, killers. So what? That doesn’t make the violence, torture, and snuffing in this film any more palatable or acceptable. For those who think it does, you are fooling yourself into a distinction without a difference.

The show is graphic, sickening in its detailed display of brutal murders conducted by Dexter and those he “investigates,” and only contributes to America in a negative way. I love how liberal ACLU types complain about alleged “torture” on the PC “24,” but they don’t give a damn about such coarsened abominations like “Dexter,” which far outweigh shows like “24” in their desensitizing of and encouraging America to commit unspeakable dismemberment and other fatal violence. The torture on this show far eclipses anything you’ll see Keifer Sutherland’s Jack Bauer commit. But according to liberal doctrine, it is okay to torture to death fellow Americans, just not the terrorists who want to destroy us.
But, I reasoned, “Dexter” is only on Showtime, so it will never gain a wider audience, even with DVD releases. How wrong I was. Because of the now-defunct writers’ strike, CBS will show “Dexter”‘s entire first season, starting this weekend.
It’s yet another downward-marching benchmark in the decline of America. That such bloody slaughter and dismemberment would be shown on the free, conventional broadcast airwaves is a horrible thing.
CBS ought to be ashamed. I am sickened. We should all be outraged. But, sadly, we are not.
Too many Americans are already drinking the “Brawndo.” Just waiting until we have the House of Representin’ giving the makers of “Dexter” Congressional Medals of Honor.
[For readers who are unfamiliar with Brawndo and the House of Representin’, you must see the great movie “Idiocracy,” in which America has declined into a nation of complete idiots who drink a green drink called, “Brawndo,” that is sprinkled on fields to make sure no crops grow.]

Uhhh…. Deb… That would be “Brawndo”, THE THIRST MUTILATOR! (It’s got electrolytes). It’s got what plants crave. Yo! South Carolina, represent!

I started to watch an episode of this series once. Watched about 15 minutes and found it to be crap. Switched back to reruns of Gilligan’s Island.

After reading about “Idiocracy” on another conservative website, my wife and I watched it. One of our favorite movies. It is positively frightening how often we are out and about and have an “Idiocracy” moment with people on subways, in stores, etc. We’ve probably muttered to each other — “this is just like Idiocracy” — a hundred times.

These Liberals make shows like this because their philosophy leads them to no other choice than to tear down what is good, successful and right, and elevate was is evil failed and wrong.
Watch Evan Sayet’s talk on YouTube called “How Modern Liberals Think”:

Debbie, Evan’s description of these people is applicable to many of your posts. I’ve watched parts of Evan’s video many times.

It’s funny, Debbie focuses on the murders like that is all the show consists of. Too bad Leave it to Beaver doesn’t make for a compelling story for an intelligent mind.

Dexter is quite an interesting show, and it’s not the murders that suck me in, its the way Dexter is crafted, and how he progresses from the first season through the second season.

Yeah, the show is torture porn, and it’s something I wish i could unwatch.

Scott on June 16, 2010 at 1:18 pm

What kind of minds would possibly find this acceptable? He is a vicious serial killer no better then those he kills. I watched the first one and it made me sick. Are people becoming totally devoid of feelings? This show is sick, sick, sick!!!

Debbie blaming everything on Libs Libs Libs… that’s not at all creepy.

I have to admit, I’m not familiar with you or your articles Debbie. Google directed me here. Still, I couldn’t agree with you more on this topic. I have never seen anything more vile or disgusting than this show. Yet it seems EVERYONE thinks the character Dexter is this great guy, a hero even! I’m sorry, sociopaths are not heros. They are the antithesis of heros. The show reminds me of A Clockwork Orange, the movie/book that was seriously pushing the line. But Dexter just flew right over the same line like it was a hurdle and just kept going. The line can no longer be seen. Good job America. Good job.

Dexter is revolting, but it has absolutely nothing to do with politics. I’ve tried to google people who dislike this show – and there are hardly any – I am seriously doubting that all of the fans are liberal. I live in the Bible Belt, and it is more wildly popular here than anywhere else. As a case in point, I am a liberal and a lesbian and both myself and my partner hate the program and cannot understand what people are thinking when they love it. The reasons we hate it – well, I’ll give you a quote from a defender of the show on another message board –

“As you’d expect, I love the show and I love, love, love, love the “anti-hero”! In some ways, Dexter’s practices a very Yahwehian form of justice ;-)”

We see Dexter as the ultimate vigilante, which jives with the disrespect for the government and due process that exists out here in the Bible Belt. You can’t just up and kill people because they’re “bad” – even criminals get trials in America. But people love it. It feeds the witch hunt mentality. It’s very “old testament God”. States that love the death penalty love this show.

It’s also just a disgusting concept overall. Serial killers and sociopaths don’t need to channel their energy into something “good” – they need to – by whatever means – not kill, period. All this show does is allow people to make the disconnect in their minds that allows thing like torture. This isn’t “Lib” at all. It recalls the CIA practice of recruiting killers for torture in third world countries. Again, not very “Lib” though I do wish someone would make a (critical) show about that instead. I find the show to be highly conservative, but again, that is just me.

I think that, beyond politics, there is something wrong in a society where the majority of people accept something like this without question. It says something about our society, something not very nice.

I have to say I agree with most people on this board. I just watched 15 minutes of the show and I am disgusted at its premise. I have heard friends who love it and I really can’t understand why that is. It is vile, it glorifies violence in a gratuitous way and it is hard to watch. I guess I haven’t been desensitized to gore, never having liked horror or gore films before. The boundaries are just being pushed far more these days with no thought on implications.

I can’t bring myself to watch Dexter. It is really revolting and disgusting. I’m a big fan of good tv series but seriously award winning serial killer? It is disgusting I cant bring myself to even finish watching episode 1.

Jules on January 5, 2012 at 11:21 pm

shutup, I’m a liberal and I am completely appalled by this disgusting show of a program, this can’t possibly be called entertainment!

Kenny on February 6, 2012 at 9:14 pm

I don’t understand the fuss about Dexter. Awards and accolades are given to movies like Hannibal and silence of the lambs, which should bee even more disgusting in your perspective. Dexter is a wonderful series realised from a book. It just shows the hard gross facts of life through the lens, the cast is to God and the acting is impeccable!. Kudos to Michael C Hall.

*too good

Vinayak on December 20, 2012 at 12:56 pm

This is just a new trend in television.

Dexter: glorifies a serial killer
Weeds: glorifies the growing and sale of illegal marijuana.
Breaking Bad: glorifies the manufacture and sale of methamphetamine.
The Kardashians: glorifies the lifestyle of bimbos.

Whoever wrote this… You’re illiterate.
It’s not splatter, it’s spatter.

Thank you. I find the whole concept of this show repulsive beyond imagination, yet all I ever hear is praise for it. I am not conservative at all, but I am in total agreement with you here.
