“Dewey Beats Truman” – Superbowl Post-Mortem: Upset, Lame Ads, Etc.

By Debbie Schlussel
Now that the Superbowl is over, here are my observations:
* A funny thing happened on the way to the coronation. Contrary to the conventional wisdom and foregone conclusions, there was no President Dewey and no New England Patriots victory, tonight. I’m glad the New York Giants won. As I wrote earlier today, I was sick and tired of the coronation of the Patriots and Tom Brady. Glad a classier bunch took the crown out from under them. Congrats to Eli Manning et al. Question: Do Eli and Peyton Manning make the first brother QB team to win Superbowl championships? I’d bet yes.
Here’s my fave picture from the night:

* YAAAWN. The Superbowl was incredibly boring and tiresome until the last couple of minutes or so of the Fourth Quarter. It was a low scoring game with almost nothing going on. NY Giant Plaxico Burress helped make it exciting, catching Eli Manning’s 13-yard pass for the touchdown that clinched the victory. Tom Brady looked like he was weighed down by too much mousse and gel. So sad, too bad. You lost, dude. Maybe if Brady (and his posse) concentrated more on football and less on his modeling career and wannabe future as a Hollywood starlet, he’d have been the four-ring champ. The real men in flak-jackets on the field won this one.

* The ads were among the lamest and most uncreative of any Superbowl yet. It seems that with each successive Superbowl, the ads get worse. It’s a sure sign of the declining creativity in America (which some economists say is a sign of the decline of capitalism and freedom, too). You’d think that at $2.7 mill per 30 seconds, the ads would be spectacular. NOT. If I had to pick a favorite ad, it was this one from Coke (and no, it’s not the lame James Carville Coke ad. Groan.):

Debbie you are so frekin hot.
I’m sorry, what was your question?

What? Eli Mannings pass to David Tyree wasn’t exciting?
I thought the Audi and Hyundai ads were great too.

Debbie–
Amazing how crappy a “great” quarterback can look once his O-line goes to Hell. You’d think for all the hype he could be a wee bit more mobile.
As to Dewey and Truman, the country would have been far better off with Dewey.
Hard to understand how Mr. “The buck stops here” Truman, who did more to cover-up commie involvement at the highest levels than any other president (not to mention his barely hidden racism), could somehow emerge in the 1970s as a model figure.
Just one more more pathetic Leftist post-war Dem.

Sometimes cheating doesn’t mean victory, as we saw yesterday. Apparently Belicheat didn’t study his bootleg tape of the Giants walk thru from saturday. As soon as I saw he didn’t wear his dirty old hooded sweatshirt, I knew he was doomed, thank God! Brute force and determination will beat ordinary play any day. Belicheat didn’t have the Devil an his side this time.(at times I’m convinced Kraft sold his soul to the Devil to win games) Boston shows they are quite ordinary, or even below par, without the opponents playbook. What a game! What a Super Bowl! It did not disappoint, as usual.

I liked the game, sorta wish the Patriots had won to cap the perfect season. But, I’m glad for Eli Manning.
Oh, and I agree 100% with tita2juju most of all.

The only ad I liked was the budwieser one where the horse was trained by a cute doggy!
The game was alright but I agree with the first poster about you….

Actually, there was plenty going on.
The Giants’ defense were making a career of getting to Brady. He could never get anything started, let alone get into anything resembling a rhythm. My worry (I was rooting for the Giants) was that the Patriots’ coaching crew would tweak an adjustment to neutralize the Giants’ pass rush or find openings for their runners. I was almost sure they’d change something up during halftime to disrupt the Giants’ defensive gameplan.
Pretty much a Cinderella story.

You’ll love this clip of brady laughing at the prediction that the patriots would score only 17 points.

Check this out Debbie. I guess Bellecheat’s unsportsman like conduct is rubbing off on Brady and Moss.

Nice to see the Cheat-riots put in their place (and I’m not just saying it because I’m from Giants country either).
But nice to see someone else who agrees with our assessment of “boring until the 4th quarter” and disappointing commercials. Our favorite was the Coke commercial spoofing the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade (and again, not because we’re from NY).
YAY GIANTS!
