Quote of the Day
By Debbie Schlussel
Although I do not like the anti-Israel, left-wing, anti-religious apartheid Gulf-state cheerleader Christopher Hitchens, I do like a couple of hilarious sentences in his op-ed in today’s Wall Street Journal. “The Perils of Identity Politics” is a well-written piece against those who push voting for the “first female President” or the “first Black President.” Some of what he writes has been said before by many people (including me–I wrote exactly what he wrote about the fervor for Colin Powell to run for the White House during his book tour; and about those who vote for Obama because he’s Black being the same as those voting against him because he’s Black). But this is choice:
Those of us who follow politics seriously rather than view it as a game show do not look at Hillary Clinton and simply think “first woman president.” We think — for example — “first ex-co-president” or “first wife of a disbarred lawyer and impeached former incumbent” or “first person to use her daughter as photo-op protection during her husband’s perjury rap.”
Amen to that.
