Extremist Imam/Bush Buddy: “Bush Told Me Christians Are Extremists Like Muslims, Appointed Spence Abraham For Us”

By Debbie Schlussel
I’ve written a lot about Imam Hassan Qazwini (see here, also), the extremist Imam and friend of President George W. Bush, who runs the largest mosque in North America, the Islamic Center of America in Dearbornistan.
In 1998, the mosque–then in Detroit–was the first mosque to which I went undercover. I wrote about it in The Detroit Newsistan, before the paper became Muslim-occupied territory under such boneheaded individuals as editorial page editor Nolan Dhimmi Finley. At the time, the mosque hosted Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan, who delivered a long hate-filled rant against Jews and Christians (and in praise of Saddam Hussein). When Farrakhan called Jewish Americans “forces of evil” with a “Satanic mentality.” Imam Qazwini and his congregants gave him a standing ovation. That’s not to mention that the Imam and other Muslim officials introduced Farrakhan as “our dear brother” and “a freedom fighter.”

w/Hezbollah Spiritual Leader Sheikh Mohammed Hussein Fadlallah (left)

Imam Qazwini is also tight with Hezbollah spiritual leader, Sheikh Mohammed Hussein Fadlallah, who issued the fatwa to blow up 300 U.S. Marines and embassy officials in 1983. Qazwini is tight with the Ahmadinejad government of Iran and is an open supporter of Hezbollah, HAMAS, and every other terrorist group you can think of (though he claims–like they all claim–that he is against Al-Qaeda).
That’s why I was disgusted when I learned in late 2000 (right after he was declared the winner of the Presidential elections), that President Bush invited Imam Qazwini (more than once) to his Crawford, Texas ranch to help design his “faith-based funding” program. Qazwini’s background was well known, but the Bush camp–including the President, himself–did not care. They embraced Qazwini, anyway. And they put Qazwini front and center, next to Bush, at his January 2001 press conference announcing the faith-based funding tax-money giveaway. I wrote about this here.
Now, Qazwini has a new book out, “American Crescent,” to which I am not linking because I do not want to help the sales of this extremist (or the clickover rate to his book listing online, which helps in the sales rankings). While Qazwini is a BS artist, there are items in the book which I believe–the parts about Qazwini’s buddy, President George W. Bush.
Qazwini details to him how Bush compared Christian “extremists” with Muslim terrorists and how Bush agreed to appoint Spencer Abraham (now one of three “National Co-Chairs” of Fred Thompson’s Presidential campaign) to his cabinet to serve yet again (as he had in the U.S. Senate) as the Muslims “emissary” a/k/a waterboy:

The book Qazwini describes meetings with Bush, including one in 2000 that was held weeks before the presidential election. Qazwini writes that Bush told him and others at the meeting that it was wrong to stereotype Muslims as extremists.
Bush also talked about his love of Lebanese food, Qazwini wrote, and said there was no division between Muslims and Christians.
“There are some Muslims who create trouble, but the majority are good people, just as there are some Christians who create trouble even though most are good,” Qazwini quoted Bush as saying. “People talk of Muslim extremists? Come with me to Texas, and I’ll show you the Christian extremists.”
In the same meeting, Qazwini said he asked Bush to name a liaison to the Muslim community if he were to be elected. Bush replied that he would appoint Spencer Abraham, a Lebanese-American Christian who was then a U.S. senator from Michigan.
“He will be your key to the White House,” Qazwini wrote, quoting Bush.
After the election, Bush named Abraham as his secretary of energy.
“The president had kept his word,” Qazwini wrote.

It is because of hundreds of actions like these in Bush’s first administration that I now feel I can reveal that I did not vote for George W. Bush in 2004. I was so disgusted with his “outreach” to–and even White House employment of–Muslim extremists and open terrorism supporters that I chose to throw my vote away and vote Libertarian.
No I am not a Libertarian. I considered the vote the same as voting for Mickey Mouse or Daffy Duck. But I could not vote for Bush twice in a row. And I certainly would never vote for John Kerry. But I would not vote for a man who not only hangs with the man who cheers Hezbollah and thinks Jews are “forces of evil” with a “Satanic mentality,” but invites him to the ranch to design the giveaway of millions of U.S. tax dollars. It’s unconscionable. And it’s how I will remember George W. Bush. (I live in Michigan, where I knew both Gore and Kerry would win resoundingly anyway, so it didn’t matter that much and wouldn’t decide the election.)
Frankly, with GWB in the White House, we didn’t do much better than Kerry. Did we? I don’t know about you, but I don’t think we deserved a President–of ANY party–who compares Christians to Muslim extremists.
Sickening. Which of the Republicans running this time won’t act like this? Hard to tell if there are any (other than Duncan Hunter who isn’t really in the running).

Debbie,I agree with everything you said. Any advice for those of us who don’t want to throw away our votes, who live in a VERY blue state. I feel as if our nation is being hijacked. Punn fully intended!
[OIJ: HARD TO ANSWER. RASMUSSEN POLLSTERS CALLED ME YESTERDAY, BUT I WAS GLAD I WAS ON THE OTHER LINE AND MISSED THEIR CALL. OF THE CANDIDATES RUNNING, THE ONLY TWO WHO’VE SHOWN–BY DEEDS, NOT JUST WORDS–THAT THEY OPPOSE JIHAD AND WILL WORK AGAINST EXTREMISTS ARE GIULIANI AND MCCAIN. BUT BOTH OF THEM HAVE ALSO MADE TROUBLING “OUTREACH” STATEMENTS. AND BOTH SUPPORTED AMNESTY AND WERE BAD ON IMMIGRATION–WHICH WE KNOW IS AN ESSENTIAL COMPONENT TO LIMITING THE SPREAD OF ISLAM IN AMERICA. SO, I DON’T KNOW WHAT TO TELL YOU. HERE IS A SUMMARY OF WHAT I THINK ABOUT THE VARIOUS PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATES’ STANDS ON ISLAM AND ISRAEL FROM WHEN I WAS ON ISRAEL NATIONAL RADIO, LAST WEEK, ON THE TOVIA SINGER SHOW–I’M AT ABOUT 3O MINUTES FROM THE BEGINNING:

Of course, Debbie, by throwing your vote away on Mickey Mouse, you are one of those who ensured that Bush would win again in 2004. Thanks for your contribution.
[J: I DIDN’T WANT JOHN KERRY. IT WAS A PROTEST VOTE. I VOTED LIBERTARIAN, TO BOOST THEIR NUMBERS AND SHOW THAT SOME OF US WERE DISAPPOINTED WITH BUSH. DS]

Debbie–
So far, even though I am a right-wing guy and dislike his politics, I have to say that I am inspired by what Obama could bring. (BTW, he is not a flaming liberal, either.)
He could break the Clinton/old time Dem politics machine. Don’t you see that once a Black guy gets elected–or even gets close–the whole old time notion of capturing the Black vote but keeping them on the plantation is over? Thus, the Dems as we have known them for the past 50 years are DEAD.
Clinton and company represent the view that..Sure, Barack, we will trot you out for the convention, and even let you be the jr senator from IL, and sure you can play at running for president, but–NO you cannot actually win. The old guard is scared to death, and it is about time!
Also, with that Muslim background, he might have to really walk on eggs and be better than any other Team R candidate on the Islam issue.
I have lost patience with all those Team R diehards who don’t seem to realize that there has not been a true conservative since Robert Taft, and that includes Reagan and Goldwater.
Govt spending increased tremendously under Reagan and GW Bush. For all his iconic status, Goldwater’s main “accomplishment” was to set the movement back about 10 years with his abysmal 1964 campaign. To make it worse, he was pro-abortion and pro gay rights. Some conservative.
Too many Team R idiots think that Team D is bad because they are in favor of welfare for poor people, but Team R is good because they favor welfare for the defense industry.
Why not let Obama shake things up?
[RR: ARE YOU KIDDING?! OBAMA IS AS LEFT-WING AS THEY COME. DON’T BE FOOLED. AND HE’S THE MOST PAN-ISLAMIST, EVEN WORSE THAN HILLARY. HIS TIES TO THE NATION OF ISLAM AND OTHER ISLAMISTS ARE LEGION. PLEASE WAKE UP!!!!!!!!!!!! DS]

I have to say Debbie, it is sad that the sheeple in America do not have the foresight to see what a quality candidate Duncan Hunter really is.
It really is beyond me how the Republican Party will prop up a 71-year-old member of Senate that was in collusion with the Keating Five (to bad McCain’s political fate wasn’t determined by John McCain the reformer), and a coauthor of the largest amnesty legislation in history. Or, how the GOP plays up to another hillbilly gov. from Arkansas, which really are the same when scrutinizing their records. Come on, the ‘Hucksterbee’ pardoning 12 convicted murders… WTF is that?
I can only hope that Romney wins the nomination and has the wisdom to choose Hunter as his running mate. I believe it ultimately would be the best of what’s running, for the nation, and surely the best thing that could happen to the Republican Party.
Romney/Hunter also would help my goal of giving Hunter a firm shot at the Presidency in either 2012 or 2016.

There is not the first person in this entire batch of people running for President who is worth a damn! There are no leaders in this group, only a bunch of ‘salesmen and one saleswoman’!!
We need someone like Patton who said what he meant and meant what he said. The Islamofascists are playing us like a fiddle. I sure that when they gather together in the evenings for their eyeball soup the laughter never stops. Bush makes America look so weak on the world stage. Hell we can’t even shoot some armed Irainian speedboats out of the water after they threatened to attack our ships.

newinnewark on January 7, 2008 at 4:57 pm

By not voting for Bush in 2004 (yes I knew his second term would be a disappointment, most 2nd terms are), you effectively voted for John Kerry who called our troops rapists and murderers in 1971. Sometimes our choices are not very appetizing but we must make the best ones under the circumstances. I hated GHW Bush for many reasons (he is the type of country club Republican I despise) but held my nose and voted for him in 1992 because I knew that Bill Clinton was a Socialist.

Ripper on January 7, 2008 at 5:46 pm

Also imagine the glee that the Guardian, The Independent, Le Monde, and all the Eurotrash media and celebs would have greeted a Kerry victory?
I agree that Obama is the most left wing of all the top 3 Dems. Hillary is a calculating socialist, Edwards is a sleazy lawyer, but Obama is totally naive and his foreign policy would be dangerous.
President Kerry would have been sucking up to the Muslims even worse then Bush.

Ripper on January 7, 2008 at 5:49 pm

Debbie–
The point of the posting was to shake things up with Obama. I agree that none of the candidates are any good on either side, but saying that, what else is new?
NOTHING is going to change in this country until we can get unlocked from the Tweedledee/Tweedledum posturing of the major parties.
People can mention Hunter or Paul or whatever, but as long as the debate is framed between two socialist parties, it really doesn’t matter.
Breaking the status quo with such as Obama will at least break the Team D old-time cartel. The Team R cartel has already been broken inasmuch as none of them are conservatives, and no one cares. At best, the Team R faithful are living off the Reagan myth.
New faces needed!!
Debbie–Obama is hardly more Left-wing than most mainstream pols of either party. As to “pan-islamist,” here again, what’s the diff?? Which pol of either party isn’t?

Red Ryder on January 7, 2008 at 6:00 pm

You had more foresight than I did; I voted for Bush in 2004 and regret it now. I should have done what you did. Re Obama, of course he is extremely liberal, but that doesn’t mean some kind of awesome wonderfl shakeup if he wins. He will probably rely on the Democratic foreign policy establishment like Clinton and Carter, the “other outsiders” did to one degree or another. I read the WSJ today about Lou Dobbs possibly running for president. I don’t agree with him about Iraq, the housing welfare state & some other issues, but he might be worth considering if it is McCain vs. Obama. There are no really ideal choices. Lou Dobbs would certainly stir things up.

Debbie
McCain is easily worse than Romney. McCain is the one who opposes ‘torture’ on the basis of his experiences at the Hanoi Hilton, although as Mark Levin points out, Centcom is not the NVA. I know your issues with Romney, and yep, he is problematic with his call to work with ‘moderate’ Muslim countries, but things that he did as governor – like putting mosques under surveillance, and his consistent calls to confront Jihad, all make him worth considering. Giuliani is problematic, but his record shows that he is very likely to steamroll any opposition from the Mohammedans. [His views on the SLC Olympics are irrelevant for this topic – someone who is right on Islam deserves a pass on other issues, be it pro-choice to having state sponsored health care.]
McCain, Huckabee and Thompson I don’t trust. My favorite candidate was Tancredo, but we all know where that went. I fear that you are letting the perfect be the enemy of the good.
[IP: I AGREE THAT WITH MCCAIN THERE ARE TOO MANY TROUBLING POSITIONS, INCLUDING HIS POSITION ON TORTURE AND GITMO. THAT’S WHY I THINK I CAN LIVE WITH VOTING FOR GIULIANI. DS]

Infidel Pride on January 7, 2008 at 7:53 pm

Correction: ROMNEY’s views on the SLC Olympics are irrelevant for this topic – someone who is right on Islam deserves a pass on other issues, be it pro-choice to having state sponsored health care

Infidel Pride on January 7, 2008 at 7:54 pm

I am forever frustrated by the insanity that is our political landscape these days. White guilt is the only explanation I can come up with for Hussein Obamas popularity. How can any American with any intelligence support a candidate for president that won’t stand up and pay his respect to our nations flag? I saw the photo of him crossing his arms while everyone else has their hand over their hearts. It’s public knowledge that his pastor he wrote about respecting so much is a militant black separatist. Nobody calls him on the carpet for this? What the hells wrong with all the guilty masses? I am satisfied that Billary is doing lousy but still, good gravy. This country will suffer a huge blow if the stalinist dems take power. Help us Debbie!

Posted by: Infidel Pride at January 7, 2008 07:53 PM
If only Americans had read Tom Tancredo’s ‘In Mortal Danger’, not only would Amereica have found the right candidate, but would have known the danger America is in, which sad to say, most Americans are blisfully unaware of.
In Addition to Islamic terror and Illegal immmigration, Tom pushed ‘English only’ legislation. With Tom Tancredo, America would not have gone wrong. Too bad, America could not see a patriot when one fell in their laps, but another worse possibility is that a fair share of American electorate is America’s enemy.

Alert on January 8, 2008 at 12:20 am

Alert–
You said it! “a fair share of American electorate is America’s enemy”
Of course, it is not intentional, but they might as well be.
Many good people on this blog are voicing their opinions, but it’s been the lesser of two evils so long in this country, that we seem to be used to it.
Debbie was upset with my posting boosting Obama, but unless we break the way-too-cozy stranglehold of the “two” party system we now have, nothing is ever going to change.
Face it folks, both parties are socialist, there is no difference other than qualitative. Take a look at how govt spending increases regardless of who is in office.
Idiots like Hannity tell us we need a Republican president because Supreme Court appointments are so important.
I guess that’s why Republicans gave us–
Earl Warren
JP Stevens
Souter
Blackmun
O’Connor
and, the best friend plaintiff’s lawyers ever had–Cardozo (as he described himself–“In truth, I am nothing but a plodding mediocrity…”)
Reagan may have given us Scalia, but he also let Bork twist in the wind and said not a word in his defense.
Break the two party system, put in hard term limits, or continue trying to parse out the lesser of two evils.

Red Ryder on January 8, 2008 at 9:27 am

Red Ryder
If the case that you are making is true pertaining to a broken two party system, then why hasn’t the American electorate got behind a conservative with a proven record?
I challenge you to demonstrate where Duncan Hunter is a socialist.

West Dearbornistan on January 8, 2008 at 9:47 am

gohunter–
Hunter is a great guy, and he has no chance at all. The *parties* are overwhelmingly socialist, although you may find some good individuals.
For all the Team R partisans out there, you might recall that the GOP was started when established politicos broke away from other parties to form it.
Staying with the GOP or Dems means more or the same.
Pls name a candidate within the last 45 years form either party who was not a socialist. And, please spare me “Reagan” as the reply here. Govt did not shrink but grew under that “Conservative.”

Red Ryder on January 8, 2008 at 10:30 am

Further to above–
It is hopeless for one good guy in the midst of hundreds of bad ones to do anything.
The people are far more likely to support a MOVEMENT and a party that really is conservative.
That is why it would be so great if someone like Obama could break the back of at least one traditional party! Hunter, Tancredo, and Paul could not capture the imagination of the media or public.
Right now, the Dems = white liberals ordering around Blacks, and counting on their votes. Change this and it all falls apart. It may still be called the Dems, but it will be completely different. Jesse Jackson knew this but was too uncouth and too co-opted by the white liberals by then to make it on his own. However, Obama can.

Red Ryder on January 8, 2008 at 10:37 am

Red Ryder
Nixon was a socialist? That is news to me.
To expound on this matter, in 1968 Nixon won his party’s nomination, and went on to defeat Vice President Hubert H. Humphrey and third-party candidate George C. Wallace.
I still believe that the flaw with your contention of the Party’s being bad are very limiting and this still falls on the American electorates shoulders of being apathetic and unwilling to educate themselves. This starts at the local level and ends up where were at today, discussing Presidential nominees.
I will not even address your remarks about Jesse Jackson; the man is no more than an a anti-Semite, bigot and corporate extortionist.
One more thing, please do not associate Ron Paul’s name with reference to good men the likes of Duncan Hunter and Tom Tancredo.

West Dearbornistan on January 8, 2008 at 11:17 am

West–
Am I missing something here? What did I say that was pro Jesse Jackson?
Paul was included in the group since many of his ideas on limited govt are correct, but he–along with other two–will NEVER get anywhere within the GOP.
As to Nixon…. Other than being anti-Communist in the 1950s, what wasn’t socialistic about–
*OSHA
*EPA
*Wage and price controls
*Devaluing the dollar
*Increasing fed spending
*Duplicity in how he handled Vietnam War
*Cozying up to Mao–thus legitimizing perhaps the greatest mass murderer in history
*Greatly expanding affirmative action
I would humbly advise learning a little more American history, instead of relying on Team R hero worship. You might not like what you see.

Red Ryder on January 8, 2008 at 1:14 pm

Obama is not left wing?! Good grief! Training with Saul Alinsky in Chicago! He is an elite ACORN operative, and joined his black separatist church just to have a church for his climb up the political ladder.
http://www.americanthinker.com/2008/01/obamas_alinsky_jujitsu.html
BTW I think my voting strategy this year will be to vote for whoever will be the opposite party of Congress. If they’re deadlocked, they can’t do as much damage as if they were in unison. *Shudder* More faith-based endowments for the homegrown jihadi groups, more open borders, if they are.

I am an Israeli/American ()And I don’t approve of dual-citizenship….but that’s another story)
Who could be worse for the poor suffering people of Eretz Israel (That means more than merely “State” (Ha’Medinat Israel) it means the land, people and Covenant) than G.W.??
Anyone who isn’t an Islamist should be appalled at what Dubya has done to both America and Eretz Israel.

Miluimnik on January 8, 2008 at 5:06 pm

There has to be more than Debbie pointing out how hopeless all the major candidates are on immigration and Islamism against a backdrop of Team R hero worship.
We won’t get better candidates under the same 2-party system!
Look all the way back to 1900. You’ve got Coolidge, Taft, and Reagan (as overrated as he is). That’s it folks. Please get a grip.

Red Ryder on January 8, 2008 at 6:01 pm

Debbie, you hit the nail on the head. We did not get into this situation overnight and we are not going to get out of it until conservatives decide they have had enough and quit electing RINOs. They are member of the newly named Communist, Socialist, Progressive, RINO, and Democrat Party. We are not doing this nation any good when we vote for the second best candidate during an election. We can do this by refusing to vote and when they ask for money, tell them why you will not do so.
