This Elian escapade was a travesty. This was not about father’s rights groups. This was a Fidel Castro propaganda stunt with the father merely a stooge of Elian. Here is what I think went down – Elian was found by boaters off the coast of Florida clining to a raft. It made international headlines. The father was visited by Castro’s “agents” who promised him lots of perks and privileges if he went along with their plan to humiliate the US.
Hence, the Reno justice department decided to make a statement, and needed to subdue this dangerous 5 year old (I think he was 4 or 5, not 7) with machine guns. In the duration of this controversy, 9/11 was in its final planning stages by practitioners of the religion of peace who overstayed their visa, and about 100,000 illegals streamed across the Mexican-US border with impunity.

The Elian Gonzalez escapade was both PR deal for the Castro gov’t further aided by the incompetency and ignorance of the Clinton cabinet, primarily Janet “Gator-maid” Reno. Although this latest Cuban comedy of errors appears to be another deja vu, I’m perplexed as to why the father rears his ugly face after two years to get his daughter back but didn’t care enough about his son as to come over here immediately and try to get him, if he professes to love him so much.
This smacks of political BS, as usual, and leads me to wonder why Izquierdo is allowed to be paroled into this country to live and work until his daughter turns seven when he can whisk her away to the commie cabana? Makes me ill when I think of aliens I have encountered who worked their asses off, filed all their documents, paid all their fees; trying to enter this country the right way only to get tanked because of some anal-retentive minor paperwork mistake that one of the lazy examiners could have easily corrected.
It’s this BS that has me asking where the f**king priorities are!

I have had this exact story happen with professional , college educated relatives who immigrated from Ireland. Some incompetent or malcontent in the INS (or whatever idiotic agency is now responsible) notices some mundane error with some assinine piece of paper, and deportation/harrassment/thousands of dollars in legal fees are thrown out. All the while tens of thousands of Mexicans hop the fence or the Rio Grande. Just makes you see where priorities lay.

This is a stupid story to report on. If the child’s mother (described as suicidal) is either dead or incapacitated or deemed unfit to care for her daughter, then she should be with her father. Absolutely no question. Any idiot who thinks they can determine where a child should live using only their personal views about what country a child came from, should be silenced.If the mother is capable of raising her child here in the U.S., then the child should stay here.If a person is stupid enough to decide on a child’s life based on politics instead of family, that person is an ASS.
