Story on Myers’ ICE Nomination, Not News; News: Unrepresentative DHS Black Org Has No Self-Respect; News: Joe Lieberman Worse Panderer Than Earlier Diagnosed; News: Sen. McCaskill – No Backbone, Sen. Bond – Myers’ Hubby’s Cousin Has Backbone

By Debbie Schlussel
**** UPDATE/CORRECTION, 11/20/07: Black DHS/ICE agents tell me the DHS group purporting to represent them does NOT represent them. So, I’ve changed part of this entry pertaining to that, per their statements. My apologies. They say they do not support Julie Myers. Good for them. ****
Ever since Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Chieftess Julie L. Myers a/k/a “The ICE Princess” praised and awarded an employee’s Blackface costume, I’ve been hearing from top ICE officials on the Seventh Floor (where Myers and top ICE honchose have their offices) of the Chester A. Arthur Building (current ICE headquarters) that Myers has been asked by the Bush Administration to step down. And since then, I’ve posted that rumor and news that Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-Missouri) put a hold on the Myers nomination and that Sen. Majority Leader Harry Reid said the Bush Administration should give up on The ICE Princess.
Again, last week, a ton of ICE agents sent me stories that Myers is finished. That the Bush Administration will pick someone else after her nomination disintegrates before the end of the year and her recess appointment ends.

The Blackface ICE Princess: Julie Myers’ Nomination Still in Trouble

(Julie Myers Blackface Image by David Lunde/Lundesigns)

Then, Saturday, there was this AP wire story that everyone sent me. There was little in it that was news to me or readers of this site. We’ve known Myers’ nomination was in trouble after the Blackface award and accompanying lies and cover up by Myers. The story repeated what I’ve already highlighted on this site, about the Halloween party and costume “award,” McCaskill’s hold, Reid’s comments, etc.
But here’s what was news in the story. As many ICE agents predicted on this site and in e-mails to me, Sen. McCaskill has no backbone. She wimped out, saying she will allow a full Senate vote on Myers. A hold stops such a vote dead in its tracks, so we now learn that McCaskill is willing to withdraw her hold, as ICE agents foretold.
But what is bigger news is that Senator Kit Bond (R-Missouri) does have backbone. He is the second cousin of Mr. Julie Myers, John Wood a/k/a John Myers-Wood-Myers and was a big booster of his to become U.S. Attorney in Kansas City. But here’s what he has to say on Myers:

Even some of those expected to defend Julie Myers seemed shaky.
“The way things are going, we may not ever vote on her nomination,” Sen. Kit Bond, R-Mo., who is a second cousin of Myers’ husband, said Friday. “Our nation’s immigration enforcement agency needs non-controversial leadership. That would be best served by going in a different direction with this nomination.”
Bond’s reaction was a surprise, said ICE spokeswoman Kelly Nantel, and Myers is trying to speak with the senator about it.

I take it he will not be carving Turkey on Thursday with that side of the family. Good for him. He has guts.
And here’s more news: An unrepresentative organization of Black DHS employees has ZERO self-respect. It sent a letter supporting Myers to Senator McCaskill. HUH?! If Myers gave an award to a guy wearing a prosthetic big nose and a yarmulke, I would never accept her phony story that she didn’t know there was anything wrong. She or her fawning boss, Michael Chertoff, obviously promised the Black Homeland Security agents a whole lot more affirmative action and plum positions and promotions in exchange for their being bought off. Sorry, but you can never expect to gain your fellow DHS employees’ respect when you sell it out, yourselves, so easily:

The group, the National Association of African-Americans in the Department of Homeland Security, sent a letter to Reid this week praising Myers’ commitment to black employees.

Yes, we all know what the word “commitment” means here. It means succumbing to shakedown, Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton style. Why else would this group sell itself out?
And finally, more news: Sen. Joe Lieberman, whom some misguided conservatives have adopted as some strange new hero merely because he supports the war in Iraq, demonstrated once again why he is the King of Panderstan. We all remember how, when he got the Dem Veep nomination, he went on “Meet the Press” and repeatedly gushed over and praised racist, anti-Semite loon and Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan. And how, at the Dem Convention that year, after giving “The Jenny Jones Show” a “Silver Sewer Award” for despicable TV, Lieberman appeared at a Democratic fundraiser hosted by Jones’ executive producer.
Now, here’s his latest well-fertilized utterance, which makes me ask, just what does The ICE Princess have on him? Or what is she doing for him?:

“Senator Lieberman regrets her lapse in judgment regarding the Halloween incident,” spokeswoman Leslie Phillips said. “He is inclined to support her nomination, given the committee’s review of her entire record, the fact that the union representing 7000 ICE employees supports her and her year’s experience in office.”

What a phony . . . and a tool. And given my contact with the union, I don’t believe that for a second. What I think he’s referring to is FLEOA, the Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association, which in the past has featured such tools, phonies, and suck-ups as Islamo-pandering ICE Special Agent in Charge Brian Moskowitz a/k/a “Abu Moskowitz” as officers. FLEOA is NOT a union, and when FLEOA’s chief endorsed Myers the first time around, many ICE agents quit the organization and stopped paying their dues.
So, will ICE’s Veruca Salt get her Wonka Golden Ticket to another year of disastrous “leadership” atop ICE and woeful immigration enforcement? Or will she go the way of Veruca in the Wonka movie and book, as many ICE agents are telling me?
As I’ve been saying, I believe–and let’s hope!–it’s something closer to the latter.

Debbie–
Lieberman is the worst. Check this out, as he panders to the enviro-whacko Left, not giving a damn about how actual people–including those who live there–will be affected.
Here is Lieberman’s nonsense–

What a truly pathetic little man he is.

It would be ironic if after all of her much more serious lapses in judgment on the job (in that they damaged national security), the thing that topples her career is something shameful and stupid but that has no impact whatsoever on whether terrorists will be able to kill us.

just what does The ICE Princess have on him? Or what is she doing for him?
Not to snark, but did you mistype to

This is why we are paying $100 per barrel for oil. I don’t know if you have read my previous postings on Alaska oil but there is more oil in Alaska than all of Saudi Arabia. Although ANWR is a large find ,it is not even close to the massive find at Gull Island.
Arco discovered the single biggest find at Gull Island, Alaska back when they were building the Trans-Alaska Pipeline. After they had run an initial volume test, our own government ordered it capped. Then Congress designated Gull Island an endangered species nature preserve. (The Sea Gull is not an endangered species).
There are 4 other fields that have been discovered that would make this country energy independent from foreign oil and drop prices back to 14 to 20 a barrel or lower if allowed to be exploited.
It is criminal that our own elected representatives continue with this manufactured energy shortage and allow oil prices to skyrocket.
George W Bush has not used his office to stop this madness instead, he has promoted the idiotic mandated use of ethanol as a motor vehicle fuel.
His ethanol promotion is now causing a corn shortage and will result in food prices going through the roof.Ethanol will never replace oil as a fuel for America and it is worse for the environment than crude oil.
It appears to me our Government is intent on destroying our Economy by using the so called man made global warming as the latest excuse to maintain the energy crisis.
Lieberman and his cronies all should be investigated for manipulating domestic oil production and supporting the big oil cartels like OPEC.

Are Julie Myers’ 15 minutes about up?
Not if it’s left to our lawmakers.
This congress-without-a-clue baffles me. They continue to walk into walls for this woman.

“DHS Black Agents Have No Self-Respect”??? Come one Debbie you know better than to make a blanketed comment like that. They are numerous black ICE agents and other ICE employees vocalizing their outrage regarding the events that occurred on 10/31/07. The majority of ICE agents are NOT members of NAADHS. You were right about one thing, they were obviously promised “plum positions and promotions in exchange for their being bought off”.

iced425 on November 19, 2007 at 6:24 pm

ScottyDog: Outrageous! Can we now dispense with this silly idea of democracy? During the Carter Admin., they specifically said that the plain was for oil exploration and now what do we have?-a conspiracy like the no funded mandates like “No Child Left to Behind”. From what I can remember, Alaska is a state that has rights. What gives Congress the right to infringe on it’s sovereignty. Can we file a class action law suit against the Congress for keeping the price of crude artificilly high and sacrificing our trade deficit? One day, pow, to the moon.

Ms. Schlussel, being a fan of yours for some time now, it is hard for me to express my complete and utter disappointment in you for your blanket statement of all Black Agents of the Department of Homeland Security. The organization that responded with a Ôø?step nÔø? fetch itÔø? approach to the costume party debacle, in no way speaks for ALL Black agents of DHS. There are those of us who were offended not only by the audacity of a Ôø?fellowÔø? co-worker to portray us in such a fashion, but also by the fact that the action was supported and rewarded by our agency leadership. What do you think that says to us? I am a founding member of a newly formed organization within DHS that strives to maintain, support and enhance the quality of the work environment for Blacks and other minorities in DHS and the community. The newly formed organization is NABICEA, the National Association of Black Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agents. We will not stand by with hats in hand, hoping for a few meaningless favors from our leadership in exchange for our support. We will demand and expect nothing less than justification and accountability for all involved in this atrocity. In closing, I ask that you retract your inaccurate statement and know that there are more self-respecting Blacks in DHS than you give us credit for.
[AMBM: I MADE A CORRECTION ABOVE AND ALSO POSTED ANOTHER POST ADMITTING I WAS WRONG AND APOLOGIZING. NOT SURE WHAT ELSE I CAN OR YOU WANT ME TO DO. AGAIN, MY APOLOGIES. AND I’M GLAD I WAS WRONG. GOOD FOR YOU. DS]

I wish I knew what we the people could do. It seems all the parties just offer us the lesser of two evils during the election cycle.
If you want to learn more about Gull Island, go to the following website:
http://www.reformation.org/energy-non-crisis.html
You can read The Energy Non-Crisis by Lindsey Williams online for free. He was there when Arco discovered Gull Island, here are some excerpts from Chapter 16:
After everyone had left the office, that oil company official said to me, “Chaplain, we have just discovered and proven another pool of oil as big and maybe even bigger than the Prudhoe Bay Field. This is phenomenal beyond words.” He again said, “There is no energy crisis. Now we can build a second pipeline, now we can produce not only 2 million barrels of oil every 24 hours, but we can produce 4 million barrels of oil every 24 hours. Chaplain, this is what we as oil company officials have been waiting for.”
Then this:
He looked at me with a frown on his face and said, “Chaplain, what you saw yesterday, don’t you ever as long as you live, let anything out that would tell anyone the data that you saw on those technical sheets.”
As he sat down behind his desk, I noticed that he was very worried, and then he continued, “Chaplain, you weren’t supposed to see what I showed you yesterday. I’m sorry I let you go with me out there to watch that burn. I’m even more perturbed that I let you look at the technical data, because, Chaplain, you and I might both be in trouble if you ever tell the story of Gull Island.”
I have checked out Lindswy Williams story and the permits were pulled at Gull Island just like he said in the book.
So, the next time you hear the financial news networks tell you that there is an oil shortage, you know who is lying through their teeth.

ScottyDog on November 20, 2007 at 12:07 pm

I’ve always known that there is oil under just about the entire planet if you look hard enough for it. The whole situation makes me vomit. The country is going broke because of energy prices yet not one politician gives a shit. Treason, I tell you.

Debbie –
Your thought that it is FLEOA backing Julie is wrong. It is the AFGE ICE Council that has publicly announced their support. They have met with and secured Lieberman’s endorsement and that is why he is saying that in his announcements. They have also let Julie know they are supporting her…..to what end, who know’s.

icegman1 on November 22, 2007 at 4:11 pm

The AFGE ICE Council 118 initially said they supported Julie Myers. But there was never any vote and they didn’t solicit feedback from its members when they said that. Council 118 is composed of representatives of ICE’s four collective bargaining units: the Detention and Removal Office (DRO), Federal Protective Service (FPS), Office of Financial Management (OFM), and Office of the Principal Legal Advisor (OPLA). Local 918, which pays dues to Council 118, was never consulted on this matter, and I know of no person in Local 918 who supports Julie Myers. Local 918 is comprised of employees of the Federal Protective Service (FPS), federal police officers and security specialists who are entrusted with the protection and patrol of all persons and buildings on federal property. Julie Myers and Theresa Bertucci began to lead a prominent campaign, practically to the day last year, to abolish FPS and begin forcing out its employees. So no, don’t believe the news about the ICE union — the FPS shop stewards of Local 918 are all against the Senate confirmation. All those members of Congress who think that any “union” unequivocally supports Julie Myers should know that this story is false.

Pure275 on November 26, 2007 at 5:16 pm

Local 918 has expressed their comments against Asst Secretary Myers; unfortunately they account for only 15% of the bargaining unit. This is yellow journalism at its finest…thanks for contributing to the tail wagging the dog. DRO supports Myers; OI may not, but they want an OI manager in her place so they can have more power. Way to perpetuate the stereotype of females in power dragging down other females in power Debbie.

ICECOUNCIL on November 26, 2007 at 8:45 pm

Well ICECOUNCIL, at least now you’re phrasing it accurately: “DRO supports Myers.” Maybe next time the Executive Board can, oh, maybe take an actual vote before running to the press with a supportive sound bite that purports to speak for us all? You’ve got some gall charging yellow journalism when your posts on Delphi characterize the whole incident as “overblown” and make no mention of the discarded photographs. So from this I’m guessing DRO also supports the destruction of evidence. Way to perpetuate the stereotype of law enforcement officers willing to cover up for one of their own. Problem is, Myers was never one of us: there isn’t a hint of street LE experience in her resume prior to ICE. That’s why OI doesn’t want her. Too bad ICE ELR denies OI their collective bargaining rights under the flimsy banner of national security, or the union members who don’t support Myers would far outstrip the 15% you’re delineating right now.
And the offending party at that debacle was from DRO, right? If he’s a CBU-eligible employee, you should go defend him instead — he actually has a grievable case, first getting an award by Myers herself, and then a forced leave of absence for the very same conduct. That he showed very poor judgement should not overshadow the fact that the poor judgement was rewarded by Myers, Bertucci and Smith before someone had to tap them on the shoulder and say, “You know Madame Secretary, that outfit is downright racist.” Please don’t insult all women in power; most would have had the intelligence to recognize the behavior for what it was right on the spot. Instead of posing for photographs.

Pure275 on November 27, 2007 at 3:40 am

If this website/blog is your idea of the press, then you have issues. Democracy: MAJORITY. 85 trumps 15.
Discarded photos; why keep them? Does OI keep their kiddie porn for distribution?
Other than the Special Agents in FPS, FPS employees are psuedo-LEO, you’re not an LEO for retirement purposes, you’re not in the Special Agent career ladder, and I hear you’re not even eligible for foreign language pay. No wonder they’re downsizing.
Your UNION, AFGE, took OI out of the bargaining unit, not ELR. Check the FLRA ruling, you are truly clueless as to how things work. AFGE traded OI for FPS, guess you get what you pay for, or not? 15% of the bargaining unit, and only how many dues paying members???? Exactly.
He is a CBU aka BUE; I “hear” the Council is representing him…guess its on a need to know basis.
PS: I see you believe everything you “read” too; you obviously think I’m someone I’m not.

ICECOUNCIL on November 28, 2007 at 8:55 pm

I think you’re the one who’s clueless. The “ICE union supports” sound bite has made the rounds of the print media, not just blogs or websites. Lieberman’s presser? That’s media.
Democracy? FPS has 3 out of 5 members on the Council 118 board, and nothing out of Council 118 to show for it. I’m betting you’re one of the “other two” in the Minority-Majority.
The photos were destroyed because they made Myers look bad. That’s why they were yanked from the ICE intranet after just a matter of days. By comparison, there are photos on the ICE gallery that date back to Hurricane Katrina.
Pseudo-LEO? Yeah, and we pull people over in our pseudo-marked units and give them pseudo-citations for pseudo-federal court. We also shoot pseudo-bullets from our pseudo-Sig P229’s. We wouldn’t be downsizing if more non-FPS union members backed us up, but there will always be those like you who only care about their own pay and benefits plan.
When I say OI, I am talking about the bulk of OI, the 1811’s who aren’t CBU eligible because ICE and DHS stuck them under a national security exception. Your research and citation skills need work.
‘Nuff said? Now go and cry to Cynthia again.
