Happy Halloween, Julie Myers: ICE Princess Praised Racist Costume @ Official Party She Hosted

By Debbie Schlussel
A number of outraged ICE agents have been sending me this item picked up by all the major cable news networks about a certain Halloween party and interesting “costume.”
Liberal then-Congresswoman Patricia Schroeder called Ronald Reagan,”The Teflon President,” because she felt no criticism stuck to him.

Jungle Fever: The ICE Princess Loves the Blackface

Not that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Chieftess Julie L. Myers a/k/a “The ICE Princess” is worthy of any comparison to the GREAT Reagan (she wouldn’t be fit to lick his shoes), but she might be called the Teflon Immigration Princess. After all, despite horrendous incompetence, immaturity, millions of illegal aliens laughing at her, multi-millions in waste on Tommy Lasorda confabs and stuffed monkey trinkets, a top crony and personal ICE attorney who used his position to try get his drug dealer brother-in-law out of a federal indictment, etc., the idiots in the Senate (regardless of party) still kiss her butt and gush over this real-life Veruca Salt.
But her latest huge gaff may turn the tides. Seems the ICE Princess hosted an official ICE Halloween costume party (I thought that was for kids–see Mitch Albom’s excellent column on that) and gave special praise to a racist costume. This is in addition to her violating an Equal Employment Opportunities decision requiring her to discipline her top aide, Marcy Forman-Friedman a/k/a “Peppermint Patty”, after it was determined that Ms. Forman-Friedman blatantly discriminated against a very qualified Black Customs inspector who wanted to be an ICE agent, telling him she would see to it that “your Black ass” will never get the job. And then there was the ICE Princess galavanting to Black majority city Detroit on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, requiring agents to work on the federal holiday and fetch her Diet Coke.
But this latest takes the cake:

The Department of Homeland Security will investigate a Halloween costume party hosted by a top immigration official and attended by a man dressed in a striped prison outfit, dreadlocks and darkened skin make-up, a costume some say is offensive, the department’s secretary said. . . .
Julie Myers, head of Immigration and Customs Enforcement and host of the fundraising party, was on a three-judge panel that originally praised the prisoner costume for “originality.”

Myers later apologized for “a few of the costumes,” calling them “inappropriate and offensive.” She said she and other senior managers “deeply regret that this happened.” [DS: Uh, yeah. Now, that she got caught with her panties down, she’s sorry. Riiiight. Crocodile tears.]
A department photographer photographed Myers with the man, but the images were deleted after the costume were deemed offensive[DS: How convenient], ICE spokeswoman Kelly Nantel said. [DS: I will have coffee with the first person who e-mails me one of these photos.]
Between 50 and 75 people attended the party, which was a fundraiser for the Combined Federal Campaign, a federal government collection of charities.
Nantel said one employee, whom she declined to identify, was wearing a black-and-white striped prison outfit, dreadlocks and a skin “bronzer” intended “to make him look African-American.” But, she said, it was not immediately apparent that he was wearing the make-up.
“Most people in the room didn’t realize he was wearing make-up at all,” she said.
[DS: Uh-huh. And most people didn’t realize Kojak was bald. Why didn’t the people in the room at the roast get to say the same about Ted Danson when he posed in Blackface?]
“It was unintentioned. The employee did not mean to offend although there were some employees that were rightfully offended by it,” Nantel said.
Myers and the other judges “noted his costume for originality.”
“There were a couple of people who were offended,” Nantel said. “When it was confirmed through a conversation with the employee that he was wearing make-up,” Nantel said, the employee was counseled and Myers sent out a note to employees apologizing.
In a November 2 email to ICE employees, Myers wrote, “It is now clear that, however unintended, a few of the costumes were inappropriate and offensive. While we were all thrilled to be a part of the CFC fundraising effort, I and the senior management at ICE deeply regret that this happened.”
She reminded all employees to be compliant with the department’s diversity training requirement. [DS: Hint: Real diversity doesn’t mean a dumb, incompentent princess chick atop your agency. Did she go through the training?!]
Myers has served as head of ICE since January of 2006 but is still awaiting Senate confirmation.
An ICE congressional liaison said ICE officials briefed congressional staffers about the costume party this week as a courtesy. But at least one congressional staffer said they approached ICE after receiving an anonymous fax about the incident.
Myers called House Homeland Security Chairman Bennie Thompson, D-Mississippi, about the incident and is expected to meet with him before the end of the week, a Thompson spokeswoman told CNN.
Myers also contacted the National Association of African-Americans in the Department of Homeland Security. In a letter to NAADHS members, the group’s vice president, Sjon Shavers, said the group “appreciates (Myers) reaching out to us so quickly in order to keep us apprised of the matter and we commend her on moving so swiftly toward appropriate corrective action.”
As head of ICE, Myers heads the law enforcement agency charged with enforcing immigration law inside the United States. It is the second largest investigative agency in the federal government, with more than 15,000 employees, including 6,000 investigators.

Predictably, Myers’ secret lover Michael “Serpenthead” Chertoff stuck by her, yet again. She could murder someone and he’d “support the actions” this idiot-ette has taken.

Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff “supports the actions that Assistant Secretary Myers has taken,” DHS spokeswoman Laura Keehner said. “We do not tolerate inappropriate behavior at DHS.”

But this tolerated racism at DHS is costing you, the taxpayers, mucho bucks. Ulysses Hudson, a Homeland Security intelligence analyst in Florida, was awarded a $2.5 million judgment, last week, for racist acts perpetrated on him and, then, retaliation, by DHS officials. That’s on top of the couple hundred thou the Black ICE agent applicant was awarded from your money because of Peppermint Patty’s “Black ass” comment and tactics.
Frankly, both Myers and her eternal protector (what the heck does she have on him?), the Serpenthead, need to go. This cannot be tolerated any longer.
If only Myers had gone to the party in her real-life, everyday costume. Now, that would have been real originality. . .

juliemyershezbollah.jpg

(Julie Myers’ Hezbollah ICE by David Lunde/Lundesigns)

Or better yet, a great costume for her would be as an immigration enforcer, since she’s never been that, yet (or ever).
Here’s some of the tons of e-mails I’ve been getting from “Myers'” agents at ICE, and–even more important–regular taxpayers who are damned sick of her antics:

WTF? Forget about the costume. How can anyone at her level be so naive not to know there is nothing but heartache at the end of this road? She agrees to be a judge for a Halloween party at WORK? OMG what a moron. Yet nothing she does seems to matter….go figure?

***

Myers Halloween Issues . . . Another Lapse of Judgment. wow – what more can you say…..?!?

***

Another Day at ICE. More proof of Cluelessness by our ICE “leadership”

***

What I find troubling is that folks are giving Myers credit for ‘responding so quickly with corrective action,’ but seem to be overlooking that initially Myers herself thought the costume was ‘original.’ We can assume she was amused by it. This is symptomatic of the racial intolerance and discrimination that pervades senior leadership at ICE. Have we forgotten about Marcy’s discrimination in Houston? What ‘corrective action’ did Myers take as a result of that (hint: none). Why are there so few female leaders in ICE OI (because top ICE official/name redacted doesn’t like women in law enforcement and Marcy doesn’t like any women who she views as competition)? Why is it that [two top ICE officials – names redacted] and others have had open, extra-marital affairs with female subordinates but nothing was done? Yet, this is the type of “leadership” that the Senate is about to bestow upon ICE as having done a ‘good job’…

DS: Actually, I think there are too many incompetent women atop ICE. Not that there’s not enough.
***

How about the Halloween party the ICE princess threw????Racist. Fund Raiser??? Was Black Ass — there???

***
And my personal fave:

While Rome Burns . . .

If the ICE Princess is confirmed after this, you’ll know that not only do no Senators care about immigration enforcement, but Black leaders–esp. those in Congress–do not really care about racism.
BTW, where are Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson on this? It’s right up their alley. They could protest, strong-arm some more inner city and Black college internships at ICE and declare The ICE Princess a bona fide Martin Luther King, Jr.-ette.

I bet this gets reported NOWHERE in the MSM. My guess is only Debbie (and a few other conservative blogs) will even mention the story.

Rich B on November 6, 2007 at 3:35 pm

And another week doesnt go by without ICE finding itself the subject of an embarassing press article.
I would guess that the chronology went something like this;
The annual CFC drive comes around and some one figures that we need some sort of “gimick” to entice participation.
Someone comes up with the idea of a Halloween party (at DHS HQ).
Someone “approves” this insane idea.
DHS employees are encouraged to dress up and attend this function.
Someone shows up in the costume described above.
The DHS Assistant Secretary is among a three person panel and judges the costumes.
The aforementioned costume described above is judged as being somewhat “original” and the person is photographed with the Assistant Secretary.
Sometime thereafter, someone thinks the aforementioned costume is “offensive”.
The Assistant Secretary starts making notifications and apologies.
The pictures are “discarded”.
The aforementioned costumed employee is placed on administrative leave while and investigation takes place.
Well, looking at this from the outside, several questions beg to be asked:
What lunatic suggested such a function??
What lunatic approved such a function??
Don’t DHS HQ people have better things to do than have Halloween costume parties??
Since when does a drive to participate in the CFC (which is a worthy charitable cause) warrant having a Halloween party to encourage participation??
If the aforementioned costume was so offensive, then why didnt a supervisor or manager advise the employee when he was first observed at the party??
If the aforementioned costume was so offensive, why didnt the Assistant Secretary notify the employee??
Why were the photographs discarded??
If the employee was placed on leave while the investigation is going on, why havent any supervisors or managers been placed on leave for allowing it??
Did the Assistant Secretary think the costume was offensive at the same time she thought it was “orginal”??
I cant comment on the appropriateness of the costume, as I have not seen it. Rumors are running rampant that photos of the event still exist and will probably pop up sooner or later.
How anyone could have approved this event is beyond me. What’s next; face painting the agents or ‘dunk tanking’ supervisors??
Does anyone have any pride left in their profession?? Don’t we owe it to the citizens of this country to perform our job as employees of the United States Department of Homeland Security??
I don’t know what it’s like in other offices, but we are a bit to busy doing our jobs, doing investigations, going to court, arresting people, etc., to be dressing up and going to Halloween parties.
Now to have this incident become fodder for almost every major news outlet is further embarassing!! Several weeks ago we were pounded by a local police chief for ICE’s actions during a “surge”, FEMA was just pounded for their “fake” press conference, and now this!!
Here’s a quick “litmus” test for those HQ wonks who seem to be intent of running this agency into the ground; Imagine that a reporter for a local news organization was following you around while at work. Would you want what the reporter sees on the front page of tomorrows newspaper??

ICEDover on November 6, 2007 at 8:30 pm

There is a silver lining in the many clouds that hang over ICE. National Elections are only 364 days away. Both the Presidency and the Congress will be in the hands of the Democrats in January 2009. The dems will be large and in charge and under intense pressure to make sudden and dramatic changes. The easiest target in the government is the Department of Homeland Security in general and Immigration and Customs Enforcement in particular. DHS was a huge and costly mistake. ICE is the most dysfunctional and ineffective agency in the entire federal government. From what I am told by informed sources at ICE, immaturity and incompetence starts at the top but permeates all levels of management. Most of the competent managers bailed out of ICE a long time ago. Chertoff, Meyers, Foreman and mid level managers like Kyle Barnette (EVS) and too many SACS, RACS and Group Supervisors to mention by name are approaching the the end of their reign of terror. The majority of these viscous, vindictive, arrogant empty suits could burst into flames and not a single agent would spit on them to put out the fire. Keep the faith. Their day of reckoning is coming and the end may be nearer than it appears!

NDN on November 6, 2007 at 10:17 pm

This costume may have been in poor taste but there is no proof that the guy who wore the costume had racist motivations. And I’m sorry, I am sick to death of hypersensitivity on the part of libtards or offended blacks while it’s open season on Christians and Jews, and while Muslims get away with everything they do. When there is a genuine concern by all people for ALL groups, then I’ll start caring again. That would mean Al and Jesse would have to say something about the Christian/Newsome murders, or condemn the Jena 6 who beat a boy senseless.
When Prince Harry turned up in a Nazi costume at a Halloween party a few years ago, I was taken aback, as were many people. But then it was pointed out that we often dress up as our enemies at costume parties — I’ve dressed up in a burka as a female jihadi and we dress kids at Purim in Haman costumes. The key is the intent on the part of the person wearing the costume. Sometimes it is just best to steer clear of all jokes that can be taken the wrong way. On the other hand, maybe we are all getting too carried away.
It’s very telling that the lib media is not jumping on this incident; if someone showed up at a conservative event in blackface, Al, Jesse, and all the libtards would be protesting and demanding the guy be charged with a hate crime.
Sorry, but I am becoming inured to things that offend black, hispanic, or Muslim sensibilities. Not to say that true racism doesn’t exist because it does, but it’s getting to be a case of the boy who cried wolf. And when the public becomes desensitized due to a bombardment of false claims, it’s the real victims who will be hurt the most, as is always the case.
Julie Myers needs to go because she’s incompetent. As for the guy in the blackface costume — sorry, I really don’t condemn him. Maybe he was wrong, maybe not. I don’t care anymore.

AmericanJewess on November 7, 2007 at 4:00 am

Just as an aside, what are your opinions about costumes in general? When several of us wore burkas to a synagogue Purim party in America, we were a hit. But if I had worn that to a Purim party in Israel, I imagine someone who had lost a child in a female jihaid perpetrated terrorist bombing might not have thought it was funny. Perhaps likewise, Nazism and slavery are horrors that are too near to us to be poked fun at. What are the guidelines in your opinion?

AmericanJewess on November 7, 2007 at 4:38 am

I agree wholeheartedly with ICEDover! Myers and those idiots @ the CAB should all be given their walking papers. I can’t believe that the highest level of leadership of law enforcement agency would allow this type of an event to take place, in their HQ no less.
As a Special Agent with over two decades of Service to the country I am embarased and appalled that our senior executives are this immature.
There are agents risking their lives every day in the field while these idiots run around in costumes acting like children. Is it any wonder that most law enforcement agencies think we are a joke?
This is but only one example of the immaturity of the people on the 7th Floor. Another is the micromanaging that takes place everyday. Most of the field offices are hesitant to do an enforcement action for fear of upseting Myers or Forman and wind up in HQ doing detention.
Not to mention.. that they have all these 30 something wonders running the agency.. that have little or no field experience but are yes people and look good all dressed up in their executive costumes.
Eliminate the 7th Floor and start over with adult leadership that understands what it means to be a law enforcement officer.

ficedup on November 7, 2007 at 6:40 am

As usual, I’ll not offer an opinion on our “appointed leadership”. I know the intent of the event was to generate more giving for the CFC. Good intention, bad result.
I do know that the Director for OI, nor the Deputy Director for OI was in attendance that day, and I don’t know what if any involvement they had in the planning/authorizing of such an event.
NDN (You know I know who you are Patrick) wants to lump them all together with the appointed ones, and use that broad brush to paint them all as idiots. Of course he must lump me in there as well, because of his personal animosity towards me. ICE Agents always assume that if it happened in the CAB, then the OI Director or her staff were involved. WRONG. There are a whole lot of pieces of ICE that aren’t controlled by OI. If you don’t know this, go to the website and look it up.
I also know that the employee with the “offensive costume” was not an OI employee.
My guess is this was a Public Affairs idea gone wrong, but I don’t know this to be a fact.
I think ICEDover’s litmus test is good advice. If it don’t pass the “smell” test, or the “headline” test – Don’t Do It.
ficedup said “Is it any wonder that most law enforcement agencies think we are a joke?”
I couldn’t disagree more. The law enforcement agencies where I work certainly don’t think we are a joke. Those that care to research what we are about realize that we bring real value to their investigations, and understand that we are experiencing growing pains that any infant agency must experience. Stupid behavior by the few, just like corrupt/illegal activity by the few, does not indict the rest of us. Every agency has their day in the barrel. It isn’t the end of the world, and no, the sky is not falling.
Work safe,
EVS/Kyle

EverVigilantSheepdog on November 7, 2007 at 7:36 am

Hate to disagree with EVS, but as a former ICE agent now working for another agency, the general consensus is that ICE is a joke. The number of former ICE agents is staggering. Yeah, 600 or so agents applied to ICE earlier this year. But you have to ask yourself how many of these are OIG types looking to do real agent work or guys/gals wanting to get out of their current situation. Why anyone would want to arrest illegal aliens is beyond me.

FormerICE on November 7, 2007 at 8:03 am

FormerICE,
Don’t think you hate to disagree with me at all, but because you say it, doesn’t make it true, across the board.
I don’t know where you were/are, but where I am, ICE is engaged, at all levels, and doing work worth doing.
I’ve spoken to many of the agents attempting to come to ICE, as well as reviewed hundreds of OF612’s. I’m generally impressed with the talent, and I know some are looking for greener grass, geographical change, etc. Thing is, they all know what they are going to be doing, and they are coming over anyway.
“Why anyone would want to arrest illegal aliens is beyond me.” Because it is beyond you, is why you should have left. There are many reasons to do this job, and those of us still here understand that. I’d think once you ran from the battle, you’d have other things to concern yourself with. Guess not.
Work safe in whatever job you are contemplating leaving today,
EVS/Kyle

EverVigilantSheepdog on November 7, 2007 at 10:29 am

I donít know what the costume looked like, but I do think that this country is so ìsoftî that even the French could hurt our feelings.
I agree with EVS. There are too many entities thrown into ICE. In my opinion, investigations should never have been mixed with DRO, IEAs or any other uniform division; not to mention the poor FPS folks. OI should be a stand alone entity; however, ICE is the dumping ground for DHS, which is a dumping ground for the federal government as a whole.
I disagree however with EVS about ICE not being a joke. It begins with the name/acronym and rolls down hill from there. The biggest reason for ICE being a joke is the immigration debacle perpetuated by the federal government and not the agents. The predominant issues ICE is known for are ones involving immigration. Occasionally there will be a customs case such as child exploitation, but by and large it is immigration.
EVS lets be honest; people will apply for any 1811 job. Even the old INS had hundreds if not thousands apply when a vacancy came open. It doesnít mean that they want to work for ICE specifically as much as it is to get a federal agent spot. The standards to get the job are not as high as the FBI, Secret Service or even the DEA. So that means it is an easy agency to join and then jump ship after getting in. It isnít viewed much differently than the Border Patrol or Inspection Service for the legacy USCS or INS.
OI needs to have a name change, separate itself from the other entities and have clear leadership like that of Judge Bonner or Commissioner Basham. CBP gets appointees with credibility and clout and we getÖwell we know what we have and have had. We are a myth in the minds of those assigned to HQ and a legend to our memories.

mgofca on November 7, 2007 at 12:47 pm

EVS, since you have crawled out of your “200 mile daily commute” G-ride to defend the defenseless once again. Perhaps you could explain why your multi-state AOR had ZERO arrests (as posted on http://www.ice.gov) during Operation Community Shield? And no, my name is not Patrick but I did sleep at a Holiday Inn last night. Of course the propaganda that you spew is neither relevant nor factual. However, I am happy to see that your obsession with sucking up to the higher ups while zealously trying to muck up those who exposed you as an arrogant, vindictive, mean spirited loser of a manager continues. There’s no fool like an old fool. Enjoy your power trip as the ride ends at age 57, even for a legend in his own mind.

NDN on November 7, 2007 at 1:17 pm

EVS … Let’s see. I went from arresting illegal aliens at the pallet company to investigating terrorist networks and terrorist financing (current cases I’m working). Hmmm. You be the judge.
Like I said in my other post, thousands apply for 1811 jobs just to get their foot in the door. I’m sure the majority of folks who applied under the lateral announcement are fine agents. Best of luck to them all. I hope they realize what they are getting themselves into.
No hard feelings about ICE. Great bunch of guys I worked with. The work has to get done, I realize that. To all who want to join ICE: just know that a good chunk of it is immigration.
One final thought … 17 years in government at three agencies. Not too bad if I say so myself.

FormerICE on November 7, 2007 at 1:23 pm

NDN (P.F.),
If you are going to pretend (again) to be someone you aren’t, you probably should change your language/tactics a bit. It’s so damn transparent.
I’ll not explain anything to you, as you aren’t bright enough to “get it” the first time around. You just come here to call me names, when you know that’s all you got. My commute really bothers you doesn’t it? LOL I think you need a life.
FormerICE,
17 years in government at three agencies? That is pretty good. How many before you are done, if you had to guess?
I’ve over 31 years in three agencies if you don’t count the merger as a new agency, if so it would be four. All but 8 of those were with Customs and now ICE.
When I taught at the academy, I met a number of agents that had jumped from agency to agency, always looking for that perfect fit. I only met one (1) agent that had left Customs (went to ATF). I just never felt the need to leave, as I’ve always enjoyed my job.
Truth of the matter is, I might feel differently if I weren’t in management, and was required to do more immigration work than Customs work. I just don’t know. I do know that I have a bunch of former Customs guys working for me that have adapted just fine. Do they bitch some? Oh yeah. But they are still making cases, and putting people in jail. At the end of the day, a criminal investigation IS a criminal investigation. The immigration work is important, and someone else said it, and I’ll paraphrase them, it wasn’t the ICE agents that screwed this up. We just enforce the laws, we don’t make them.
You gotta do what you gotta do. I appreciate that you aren’t burning the guys you worked with in the process.
Work safe,
EVS/Kyle

EverVigilantSheepdog on November 7, 2007 at 11:11 pm

Thats really peachy Kyle. Now tell us about your Operation Community Shield results. You know, the question that you have been dodging for 3 months now.

NDN on November 8, 2007 at 8:22 am

NDN/Pat,
Bite me. I don’t dodge anything. Because the Website doesn’t have accurate stats means nothing to me. You don’t what you are talking about, and everyone with a brain knows this.
Preach this.
EVS/Kyle

EverVigilantSheepdog on November 8, 2007 at 10:16 am

So, Kyle exactly how many gang members did your AOR arrest? Perhaps you could try to stay on topic and tell the world the great contributions your AOR made to Operation Community Shield. And, for the record my name is not Pat or Patrick and I do not work for ICE.
