Touching or Eeuuww?: Prez Bush’s Fetus Jar Story
As you know, President George W. Bush’s Presidential memoir, “Decision Points,” is released tomorrow, and his big tour to sell the thing begins with an hour exclusive interview, tonight, with NBC’s Matt Lauer. And, as I’ve written already, it’s somewhat unpresidential, including the former Prez’s absurd statement that the comments of a low-life rapper were the low point of his presidency.
Now, there’s another story, that while it might be somewhat touching is also icky and macabre. And seems sensationalistic. Bush claims that he knew he was pro-life and against abortion from the time he was a teen. He says he became pro-life because his mother, Barbara Bush, miscarried and showed him the fetus she put in a jar to take to the hospital. The former Prez says this made him pro-life because he realized that this fetus in a jar could be his brother or sister.
For the record, I am pro-life. And Bush claims that the reason he put this in the book is not to show why he’s pro-life, but to show how he and his mother developed a relationship. Huh? My mom and I bonded over a jar filled with her dead fetus? Am I missing something here, or is this very bizarre? I just can’t imagine previous Presidents–even Bill Clinton with his tacky mother–revealing such a macabre story. And by the way, Mrs. Bush was unaffected by the fetus, as she remains pro-choice a/k/a pro-abortion.
FAnd while it is true that showing people a fetus demonstrates to them exactly what is being killed via abortion, I find the story kinda creepy. What mother shows this to their kid? I also find it hard to believe that the former First Lady really showed her son the jar. Seems to me that she is classier than that. Also, in those days, people didn’t discuss these things with their children, and they certainly wouldn’t show them a jar.
So, in addition to being mildly grossed-out by this story, I also don’t really believe it. I’m sure his mother isn’t going to go public and call her son a liar. But I believe this happened as much as I believe that Kanye West’s comments on a TV telethon were the lowest points in a Presidency during which 3,000 Americans were murdered by Muslims while they were passengers in airplanes or working in the World Trade Center; and during which even more American men and women died while fighting to hand over Saddam Hussein’s Iraq to the Ayatollahs’ Iran.
So, am I wrong? Do you find the Bush fetus-in-a-jar story icky or inspiring? Is Bush making up stuff and sensationalizing things to sell books?

Definite ew!
That’s child abuse. Traumatizing a kid by showing them something like that????
And where was George, Sr? HE should have driven her to the doctor!
