I used to think that it was a good idea to amend the Constitution so that people born within the borders of the US didn’t get automatic citizenship for this very reason, but I’ve changed my mind after living in a country without this rule for a few years, Japan. There they’ve got 3rd and 4th generation Koreans, fully functioning members of society with no connection at all to Korea, who still aren’t citizens.
No doubt “anchor babies” are a huge problem, but I’d rather err on the side of taking a step to assimilating more people as Americans than creating a class of non-Americans who have no other country to call home. You think La Raza’s bad now – imagine how many more members they would get if they had a big population of ready-to-revolt pseudo-Americans.

Memo to all “liberals” and “progressives”: Stop killing pre-term babies and you would’nt have to fret about not having enough workers to pay for your fat-ass retirement… and you certainly would not need to break the law in order to protect illegals in the name of compassion and justice. What frauds. Why is this so difficult for you morons to understand?

Debbie, I am new to your blog, so, I hope you will be lenient with me until I learn the ropes. 😉 I like your blog!
I live in Escondido, Ca. We made the news a few months ago when our city council passed an ordinance banning landlords and apartment owners from renting to illegal aliens. Of course, this was challenged in court, a temporary restraining order issued and the city buckled. This was unlike the situation in Pa. They are sticking to their guns.
Since that time, I have done a little research and have been in constant contact with certain council members and the city attorney. They are looking at rewriting the ordinance to stand up to a court challenge.
Over that last several months, I have stumbled on a few little interesting facts. For example, you are probably already aware that the Fourteenth Amendment does NOT apply in any way to “anchor babies” of illegal aliens. The authors specifically intended it to apply only to children born of former African slaves. It was intended to correct some problems with Dred Scott.
In 1857, the Supreme Court upheld this belief in the Slaughter House Cases. These cases were not specifically about illegal aliens, but, encompassed the subject in their majority opinion.
The Fourtheenth has been perverted by Congress all this time by passing laws that ignored the intent of the Fourteenth. To make matters worse, Congress doesn’t even have powers over immigration, only on “naturalization”, according to Article I. Only the States have the power over deciding who can come into their territories, though not who can become a citizen.

Former Iowan…I stopped reading the Des Moines Register about a week after the Swift raids in Marshalltown (where I grew up, don’t get me started) because I couldn’t take reading any more articles that referred to those arrested for identity theft as “victims” and “Iowans.” Criminals are not victims…
Iowa really does have a problem with their kids bailing (like me!) for various cultural reasons, leading to a dwindling work force and lower tax rolls. It’s too bad there’s no way to convince the unemployed and underemployed of America’s urban areas to move to Iowa–no one’s going to leave their family and friends to take a job if when the government will pay them to stay unemployed in Cleveland. Or Detroit.

I mentioned upon leaving last time that I would come back with “Why Illegal Aliens Are Good For America”.
We are facing a real Social Security disaster. Baby Boomer babies aren’t babies anymore. Nor are they reproducing enough.
American citizens are dying at exactly the same rate they are being born. That is an 1:1 ratio. Hispanic illegal aliens are giving birth eight times faster than they are dying. That is an 8:1 ratio.
Most employers deduct from the wages if illegals taxes and Social Security. Illegal Aliens are not eligible to collect Social Security benefits. Without a sealed border, illegals will continue to flood across and make offspring. Between the parents and anchor babies, what would be a serious and unsurmountable SS shortfall becomes a windfall. We are going to need that money.
This is, of course, unless Social Security reform remains politically unattainable. With the new Congress, I expect nothing.
I am a Minuteman, San Diego chapter. I was at McGonigle Canyon. I work the border on occasion and do my part in the desert of southern California. I am not a supporter of illegal aliens by any stretch.
Nor am I one to cut off my own nose. We have serious decisions to make and actions to take. Among those includes pushing our crooked politicians to work on Social Security reform.
Now, about that havoc I promised you. Remember the birth/death ratio: 8:1. If the immigration reform package includes a guest worker program AND a quicker path to citizenship- your vote will be overshadowed within 40 years. Mexicans will control the national vote!
And that’s just the tip of the iceberg…..
