I have a theory on why Coach Krzyzewski acquiesced to the Iranian demands for long pants on the cheerleaders. He did not want the Iranians to have an excuse for losing by claiming their fully vertical minarets interfered with their ability to play basketball.

I know we will never see the day when cheerleaders from Muslim countries, to the extent they may exist, where sexy revealing outfits in deference to OUR culture. It always works the other way; we defer to them, never vice versa.

When Muslims enter beauty contests it is always for opportunistic reasons, not out of respect for our culture.

We never see Muslim men and women together out of respect for our culture; it’s always the other way around.

And of course all of this is a repeat of the craven anti-semitic behavior of athletic teams in the late 30s.

What a shame. I love the international game so much more than the NBA style of basketball. International play is REAL basketball. The U.S. players still play NBA style which is more like some schoolyard version. They stand around and wait for the defense to clear out of the key so they can drive the lane and dunk, only it doesn’t work that way in international play. The team on offense actually has to move the ball and get defenders out of position in order to get a good shot opportunity. That’s why the U.S.team commits so many stupid turnovers, misses so many easy opportunities to score, and take so many poor shots after making only one pass. They also miss a lot more free throws than any good team should miss, and blow chances to score under the basket by bringing the ball down to their chest (where any defender can grab it) in order to get a higher jump to slam dunk instead of just going right back up and putting the ball in the hole. They still think it’s showtime instead of a game that the other team is trying to win. You’d think they would learn that after almost losing to a quality team, Brazil, on Monday that their style of play isn’t going to get them the championship. I’ll bet though that they’ll just keep trying to put on a show for everyone, but everyone will not be impressed; least of all the opposing teams, many of which have their own NBA players and are not at all scared of playing the U.S.

The Islamists, as always, make me want to puke that they would use something as great as international basketball to display their sexual repression.

On the other hand, since this style of basketball is so great, what are cheerleaders really needed for? Beats me!

How about prepubescent boys as “cheerleaders” instead of those temptress cheerleaders? Beheadings, stonings,and hangings as halftime entertainment? Instead of TV timeouts, call to prayer timeouts? Game rules based on sharia law? Free Koran night? Mohammed look a like night…oops, sorry can”t have that one!

Hey Beavi…I mean ‘CornCoLeo’. Seems to me like you’re comparing NBA basketball to ‘professional wrestling’! Actually, I’d agree with that, and it goes for most “Pro” sports. It’s more show than sports. Why else would a 60 minute football game go on for 3 to 4 hours. These guys are real athletes, no doubt, but I’ve seen kids in Little Leauge Baseball take a worse beating than the real pros. Gotta pamper their multi-million dollar investements you know. Hockey’s still pretty real though, if you’re into that.

Anyway, so the cheerleaders had to wear pants to cover up their Hot all-American Legs. Hmmm, who’s the loooooooser there 😉

Speaking of real man’s sports, how about the WWF vs. the UFC!
Now that would be real fun to watch!

Great article Debbie, I didn’t watch the game earlier this week, and to be honest with you Debbie, I’m not really surprised that the cheerleaders had to wear long clothing because of the backwardness and intolerance of the Iranian government and radical islam itself. And where the hell are the moderate muslims, why haven’t they come out and say anything about what happend in that ballgame, in which the cheerleaders had to wear long clothing instead of the traditional short clothing?

what??? these are not USA dancers!! They are Russian and eastern European dancers hired by the Turkish organizers. Team USA have nothing to do with this.

As I’ve said before, I know a woman who lived in Saudi Arabia for years and she said they are total hypocrites. She said they are big time boozers and chase skirts over there far worse than Italian men.
