“Death Wish”: The Rabbi, The Palestinians, Israel & the “Peace” (of Paper) Process
It seems the State Department, the Jerusalem Post, Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, and the not-so-fond-of-Israel/Jewish-self-hater Matt Drudge are all up in arms about the “death wish” made by former Sephardic Chief Rabbi of Israel, Ovadia Yosef against Holocaust-denying terrorist and Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas.

But you need to place his comments in perspective and know a little about the guy and about Mr. Abbas.
To those of you who aren’t Jewish or are Jewish but don’t know better, there are two groups of Jews, Ashkenazic–largely from Europe (Ashkenaz is Germany)–and Sephardic–largely from Spain, the “Oriental” countries, the Middle East and Africa, and Asia (Spharad is Spain, and some of the Jews from these areas are more accurately described as “Mizrahi Jews” or “Eastern Jews”). There are aberrations, as I have friends of Dutch descent who are Sephardic Jews, etc. I am an Ashkenazic Jew, though I have Sephardic relatives and many, many Sephardic friends. The rabbi of my synagogue is Sephardi. Though we observe the same holidays and are largely the same, we have slightly different religious observances and customs and sometimes follow different authorities, which is why Israel has two chief rabbis–one from each group. The majority of Israelis are Sephardic.
Rabbi Yosef, though a great and holy man and tremendous Jewish scholar, is not someone I admire that much on Mid-East policy because he is actually one of the peaceniks–one of those who urged endless, destructive negotiations with the Palestinians and whose views and edicts led Israel to the precipitous point at which the country now finds herself. And he traded on the peace process in order to gain power. Rabbi Yosef issued a decree claiming the Jewish Torah (Jewish bible and law) allowed the exchange of land for peace and okayed the Camp David Peace Accords, which started Israel down a never-ending slippery slope of the self-amputative death march. Later, he instructed Shas–a powerful Israeli religious party over which he holds sway–to join then Prime Minister Yitzchak Rabin’s coalition and supported the first Oslo negotiations and resulting conditions. We know what a disaster that was. So, now, the situation Israel is currently in is a good part his fault. He has tremendous power over Israel’s religious movement.
Then, there is President Abbas–against whom he made the comments. Sorry, but Abbas is a mass murderer. As Yasser Arafat’s right-hand man, documents show Abbas was the paymaster of the Munich Olympic terrorists and one of the planners of the massacre of the Israeli Olympic Team in 1972. He wrote his Ph.D. thesis in support of Holocaust denial. There is a reason he has an Islamic terrorist alias of “Abu Mazen: Because he’s an Islamic terrorist.
THIS Is Mahmoud Abbas’ Handy Work. YES, He Deserves Death.
If it is a crime–if it is even the slightest outrage–to wish this man dead, then count me as a criminal and an outrageous party. The man is a mass murderer who has been elevated, largely by America–starting with George W. Bush and Condi Clueless a/k/a Condoleeza Rice–and its partners in the mainstream Jewish community as “our moderate terrorist.” He’s never done a day in prison for his crimes for which he should be executed. And that’s not to mention that Abbas has no popular support and would be trounced by HAMAS in any Palestinian Authority election, so any “negotiations” and treaties in which he’s involved are worthless, period.
No-one should be distancing themselves from these comments by Rabbi Ovadia Yosef, because finally, he’s spot on. Abbas should have been tortured to death long ago. Sadly, Rabbi Yosef’s own decrees are what helped set the stage for Abbas’ tenure in “leadership” in the first place.
Yes, Rabbi Yosef–in this instance–is 100% correct. Mahmoud Abbas deserves death. And it’s tragic that he’s been living and breathing on this earth for so many years, while his many victims were long ago worm entrails.
