Lipstick on an Ant: The WNBA Joke Continues

By Debbie Schlussel

I’ve written repeatedly about that Weird Nuisance Brought on America a/k/a the WNBA over the years (some of my past anti-WNBA produce: here, here, here, here, and here).  But I quit because it was just too easy of a target and I had nothing new to say.  It’s the same old thing every year:  women (or so their doctors claim) who look like men play basketball worse than girls in a pro sports league that is the equivalent of ants urinating on a sidewalk.  No-one notices.  And no-one cares. The only thing I notice is their weird ball, which looks like Bozo or a trained seal once used it, and now it’s been retired to the land of the Not-So-Jolly Green Giantette.

wnbayolandagriffithsmaller.jpg

He? She? . . . It! –The WNBA

As I always say:  how many overhead layups can you watch in slo-mo before you get a headache?  For the WNBA fanatics–all three of you, that’s what’s known as a rhetorical question.  The WNBA is affirmative action shouldered by NBA advertisers and ticketholders forced against their will to subsidize this butch-chick basketball league.  That’s why it also stands for “Will Net Bupkus for America.”  I’m bored with it, even though WNBA players repeatedly attacked me and sent me written middle-finger salutes.  It’s the only attention they got, and the WNBA tires me.  Old, stale, yawn . . . next.

But, now, six-foot, five-inch tall WNBA center Yelena Leuchanka is upset that people think the way I do.  She’s upset that people think WNBA players “all look like guys.”  And with women bigger and taller than most men, and fans who consist of women in brush-cuts trying to look like men, how on earth would people ever think that?

So, Leuchanka–of the WNBA’s Atlanta Dream (sounds more like a nightmare to me, but, hey, that’s just me, ‘cuz I’m afraid of women who look like Scottie Pippen . . . and lest I be called racist, women who look like Larry Bird scare me, too)–has started modeling at fashion shows and wants players to wear heels and dresses to team appearances.  I’m just wondering:  where would a 6’5″ woman find heels–at the same store that sells “Cross Your Heart” hammock bras? Maybe it’s called, “Goliathetta’s Shoe Shack.”

Luchanka claims:

Let’s be realistic–men would watch more women’s basketball if there were a lot of pretty girls.

No, men would watch more women’s basketball, if they played basketball better than the men in the NBA . . . or somewhere even close to it.  And they can’t.  So why watch someone that looks like a man, but plays basketball worse than your son’s junior varsity high school basketball team?  Why take choice when you can have prime?  And the WNBA isn’t even choice.  More like, select or dogfood.  Just sayin’.

She is on to something with the “pretty girls” thing, though.  The dynamic with people and male pro sports–as I’ve written a gazillion times–is that men wanna be them and women wanna date (euphemism) them.  With the WNBA, there are neither of those dynamics, unless you’re talking about Melissa Etheridge and Ellen Degeneres, and there simply aren’t enough of them to fill the WNBA stands or ever make it cool.  .  . even if they merged it with a sensible shoes wholesale warehouse.

And, yes, people can’t help how nature makes them grow to certain heights, and it’s not right to mock them.  But it’s human nature:  most men are hunters.  They don’t want to feel like prey.  Most red-blooded guys are not gonna want to be in a relationship where the chick has to wear flats and they still need her to crane her neck down for a kiss.  Yes, there are the weirdos with strange fetishes, just as there are chubby chasers.  But they aren’t most people.

That’s why the WNBA was a huge mistake.  They have no product:  either in the looks or skill category.  They play worse than women and look like guys.  And they have no customer base .  .  . unless you count the NBA fans and sponsors forced to pay for their free ride.

You can’t put lipstick on a pig when it’s an ant urinating.  No-one will even see the lipstick.  Sorry, Yelena.

Its the feminist answer to masculine sports.

And the few sports women excel in are decidedly feminine like gymnastics and figure skating, emphasize feminine form and grace. Women want to be like them and the men want to date them.

That doesn’t hold true for the WNBA and its NFL clone. Who wants to watch women look like the guys and can’t play as good as them?

No one.

NormanF on August 16, 2010 at 5:06 pm

I was never a “girly girl.” I had my feminine side but I preferred building things out in the yard with my Dad and making up adventure games. I was very active and never hated gym class universally but the first time I had to play basketball in Sixth grade, even tho it was “girls” rules back then, I just had an instinctive hatred of it. That and softball. I can’t explain it except that it just felt wrong. I was bad at it and one of the shortest girls in class but I got my Mom to put up a hoop and I practiced. I also decided to let my anger at having to play serve me and became a guard worthy to be reckoned with. I hated what forcing that agression made me feel like. It was not healthy. We didn’t even have girls leagues back then. This was strictly in -school stupidity, not interscholastic competition. My Mom tried to get it banned when she was on the Board of Ed but for some reason this was seen as somehow good for girls. Feh!
Later in college, we had field hockey. That was just silly but I am appalled that girls are now playing Lacrosse. It is an extremely agressive, even viscious game. Just part of the public schools agenda to Feminize the society.

mk750 on August 16, 2010 at 5:16 pm

Well, I guess the WNBA can see that standards of beauty in the US are s(t)inking rapidly. A Muslim fanatic won the Miss USA contest; PC prevails — can’t criticize gay marriage, and PC is a strong asset in winning. The WNBA is doing shrewd marketing, although, of course in a world of overturned values. They are aware of how strongly PC influences beauty contests and media reporting, so they are taking advantage of this to get lots of free favorable publicity. They need something, since they can’t attract fans or money on their own merits.

Little Al on August 16, 2010 at 5:45 pm

LittleAl, the WNBA is subsidized by NBA fans. In a real world marketplace, it would have closed up shop a long time ago. The reason it still exists has nothing to do with its real world appeal or even with the economics of women’s basketball. It has to do with political correctness. That is why its going to be inflicted on us for a long time even though no one cares, even fewer attend the games and no one watches it on TV.

NormanF on August 16, 2010 at 6:25 pm

WNBA…PLEASE GO AWAY! TO THE “ATHLETES”, GET REAL JOBS!

Debbie this article is hillarious! You should be a stand up comic.

tyler on August 16, 2010 at 7:12 pm

I have to disagree with you on some extent here. You are right the WNBA has become a staple for lesbians. They believe this is their sport right or wrong. In fact in much of women’s athletic once lesbians become dominant it becomes that sport’s culture. Being ‘girly girl’ is frowned upon and the ‘butches’ run the show. What an atmosphere we have created? PUUUKKE!!

However I disagree because with you on this Leuchanka girl wants to stay to her feminine upbringing. She comes from a society that frowns upon homosexuality and is thinking to herself “WTF?! is going on in America”. She probably is turned off to this garbage as much as you. She has a talent, maybe not the best sport for women, but can’t fault her for trying.

http://projects.accessatlanta.com/gallery/view/entertainment/fashion/yelena-leuchanka-model/

Though women’s basketball will never be like women’s tennis, if women’s tennis had this lesbian culture then it ratings would be in the toilet.

“chubby chasers” LMAO. Debbie, you are on fire today.

CaliforniaScreaming on August 16, 2010 at 7:13 pm

On a related issue, gay marriage nuptials have been put on hold in California. The issue may go to the US Supreme Court. What the Ninth Circus is concerned about is being overruled once again by the nation’s highest court. If they overrule the lower court, then the issue would have to be decided by the voters, who don’t appreciate the fact one man had the temerity to call them bigots and cast out their votes because they didn’t elect to do as the elites wanted them to make their decision. Its unconstitutional to be politically incorrect these days.

And they’re panting after gay (what an oxymoron!) weddings in California which no one heard of in the 1980s!

Conservatism has really screwed up your mind.

Norman Blitzer on August 16, 2010 at 8:27 pm

NB, no, I’m just traditional. Labels like liberal/conservative are irrelevant to me because I’m no longer American. Actually, they always were pretty irrelevant. When I was in the US, I voted for individuals, not parties. Here in Israel, that’s not possible so it will be an issue when the next election rolls around. If you read my comments on single moms, you’ll have a totally different impression of me and probably be totally confused but that’s who I am. Complex, not a simplistic cardboard cut out with no depth, nor do I lack human contrariness or contradictions.

Additional sports for feminine women: Skiing, swimming, beach volleyball, diving (subset of swimming).
any other ideas?

CODEKEYGUY on August 16, 2010 at 8:37 pm

Golf doesn’t “have” to be for lesbians only. It’s possible to play it in a long dress as the Elizabethans did. Snowboarding, Equestrian sports, archery. Probably others.

    mk750 on August 17, 2010 at 4:22 am

Any sport that requires both athleticism and grace IMO. I love watching girls and date girls that played or plays soccer, tennis, swimming, gymnastics (when I was 20 and first moved to Boulder Colorado I dated an 18 year old gymnast who had been training to make the Olympic team since she could walk and there was nothing I enjoyed more than watcher her perform at her events… and the other girls:) skiing, snowboarding, water skiing, wake-boarding, surfing, volleyball and beach volleyball, bouldering and rock climbing, mountain biking, cycling, field hockey, riding horses, diving, fitness modeling with aerobics and dance moves, and of course baby oil wrestling during my college years;)

There is a more feminine group of younger ladies entering the golf world which is a sport where one needs grace.

girls that played soccer in high school and college were the most laid back and feminine girls that I dated and hung out with when I was in high school and college

BTW, Debbie you set the bar for the intelligent sense of humor that I look for in whom I will go out on a date and enter a relationship. You make me laugh daily with your sharp witty personality.

soyphobia on August 18, 2010 at 12:08 pm

If the feminists really wanted equality, then let these women(?) try out for the regular NBA. Is their a rule that says you have to be a man? If they can play good enough to get on a real team that’s says a lot more for woman’s rights than creating your own sub par league. But deep down these woman players have to know how much of a sham and a farce they are.

Yelena Leuchanka is trying to persuade the public that this is not some sort of lesbian vanity sport. Unfortunately, the players tend to undercut that position time and again. Also, that player in the Sacramento jersey looks like something out a steroids warning film.

worry01 on August 16, 2010 at 10:33 pm

From what Debbie Wrote above:

“Luchanka claims:

Let’s be realistic–men would watch more women’s basketball if there were a lot of pretty girls.”

I have to agree with he/she (Luchanka). If the match up of the women looked like the Swedish Bikini Team versus the Victoria’s Secret Models, I would watch it in a heartbeat. And I wouldn’t care if they could even dribble the basketball.

Jarhead on August 16, 2010 at 10:38 pm

There was one WNBA player who also performed as a jazz singer, I can’t remember her name but I remember her singing was good and she was pretty. I didn’t even know that ants pissed.

And why be pickin’ on Ellen Degeneres and Melissa Etheridge? Those are two of my favorite lesbians. Put Rosie and Oprah at the other end of that list.

Richard on August 16, 2010 at 10:46 pm

When was the last time anyone of you actually saw a WNBA game? You are clueless, narrow, rude, and beyond old-fashioned. Do none of you have daughters, nieces or granddaughters who like to play sports? Do you expect them to get uniforms, equipment, gym time — maybe college scholarships like the boys? I.e, do you want them to be treated equally? Or would you rather they are made fun of by the hateful Debbie Schlussels of the world? Because that is what you are condoning here. And if you find Debbie’s tripe funny, your humor standards are, well, odd at best.

And know that Yelena Leuchanka does not speak for the WNBA nor its players. And that article was published in the newly desperate sports section of the conservative Wall St. Journal.

Natalie on August 16, 2010 at 11:36 pm

Natalie, are you really Ellen Degenerate?

Jarhead on August 17, 2010 at 12:10 am

Natalie, I have seen a WNBA game before and it is not compelling to follow. Though I have to say women’s basketball has more fundamentals than NBA players because they can’t rely on flying to the hoop. IMHO, the NBA should widen the court, put shot clock at 30 seconds and raise the rim. That would bring more fundamentals and strategy to the game.

Back to your point Leuchanka wants to make a living in the WNBA. It is on the verge of folding, especially in this bad economy. The NBA cannot keep subsidizing a losing entity. The NBA players, yes the NBA collective bargaining agreement may decide to pull the plug on the league in the next round of negotiations. She wants more men in the seats, however the lesbians aint having. They don’t care about economics they care about their damn selfish feelings.

In this Homosexual publication she is being resisted by the lesbian press.

http://www.projectqatlanta.com/news_articles/view/atlanta_dream_not_just_for_lesbians_anymore?gid=6133

She is a realist, she knows her job depends on fans and male fans must be in the factor. But according to the entitled victim crowd “we’ll sink this ship, if we don’t have our way.”

Lesson for other female sports, Don’t allow a militant lesbian minority to hijack your sport because your sport will be no more.

CaliforniaScreaming on August 17, 2010 at 12:22 am

More Lesbian Miltancy

From a league executive:
“I know the WNBA has a lesbian stigma. That’s great, but I’m like, who cares? The truth is the league couldn’t care less if I was gay or straight. They really don’t care.”

Yeah, when your league folds, then we all will say ‘Who cares’? And we really won’t care if you were gay or straight.

CaliforniaScreaming on August 17, 2010 at 12:27 am

CaliforniaScreaming – People have been saying the WNBA is on the verge of folding for 14 years, yet it still goes on. Yes, it is subsidized somewhat by the NBA — but less and less — and it is still more profitable at this stage of its development than was the NBA over the same time frame. Teams are getting their own sponsors, more and more deals are made every day, there is a long-term contract in place with ESPN … sorry – the WNBA isn’t going anywhere, no matter how many times people scream “OMG! LESBIAN!” Whether that woman playing sports is really a lesbian or not. How dare she play sports, huh?

There are plenty of compelling games and there are boring games, just like the NBA. There are great shooting nights and off shooting nights, just like the NBA. Guys in the NBA miss layups all the time – heck, they miss dunks. But it’s true, there’s almost zero dunking in the WNBA (for now) — instead you have more of a team game and more passing and defense.

But this ridiculous generalization that all players are butch lesbians is beneath anyone who can think for him or herself. It’s a cheap out, and if that’s all you have to say about the WNBA then just STFU. You basically have nothing to say.

And the photo Schlussel choose to use for her blog here, of Yolanda Griffith, well- Yolanda retired last season after a long career (she was still playing, but got a bad injury, and that pushed her to retire) She won the WNBA Defensive Player of the Year award twice, I believe, plus a championship, plus at least 1 Olympic Gold Medal – maybe 2(?) and I think she chose to be closer to her DAUGHTER who is now in college. So she managed to raise a daughter while playing basketball in a culture that did not exactly welcome her doing so. But go ahead and assume the worst about her because she looks odd to YOU in that photo. (wow, can you say jerk?) “Yo” (as she was known by the fans) was a strong ATHLETE (and likely still is) which is why you see those muscles. Especially in a photo of her in action – of course you will see them working. And she should be proud of that work ethic. She was one tough competitor and she made life hell for the likes of Lisa Leslie (google her, she’s pretty (!) and she has 4 Olympic gold medals) and many other centers and power forwards.

Enough of the stereotypes. Really. GROW UP, America. Please.

Natalie on August 17, 2010 at 1:15 am

Please spare us the rants. They remind me of the wailing one hears when a selfare recipients are threatened with removal from the dole. You have even admitted that the WNBA has been running at a loss for 14 years. What normal group of investors would endure such losses for such a length of time? Are you in fact advocating female dependency on men, since that is in effect what is going on? As for a long-term contract with ESPN, what does it really prove? Does WNBA have an audience size that justifies such a contract on the merits? Isn’t the WNBA just piggybacking once again on the NBA?

Hers is your favorite WNBA player in a dress: http://www.msnsportsnet.com/content/YelanaLeuchanka61504.jpg

She looks like a male trucker after a sex-change operation, which is not someone I would want to meet on a deserted road.

    worry01 on August 17, 2010 at 6:22 am

The WNBA will never fold because it’s subsidized by the NBA. Which is something that other failing leagues never had. And can we please stop the absurd claims that the WNBA is no different than the NBA in it’s early years? WNBA apologists have been spouting this nonsense for too long. 1st of all, the population today is more than double what it was when the NBA started. And half the teams were in small towns. And they had to do it on their own, they didn’t have another league subsidizing them. Also at that time basketball was not the major sport it became later. And of course there was not the television coverage there is today. So please stop the nonsense. If you really want to compare, try comparing the WNBA with the Major League Soccer which began around the same time. And which today has attendance double the WNBA, despite soccer not being a mainstream American sport.

In 1998 average WNBA attendance was 10,869. This season it’s currently 7,750. Does that look like a league that’s growing in popularity? And as usual, that 7,750 figure is inflated. In the last 5 years, 4 teams have disappeared. The roster size has been decreased from 13 players per team to just 11. But according to you the league is thriving and everything is wonderful because they have sponsorships. Sponsorships are no substitute for paying fans and large television audiences which the WNBA cannot attract. Even the rock bottom prices the WNBA charges for tickets cannot entice fans to see their inferior product.

Bob – First you’re telling Yelena to get out of the country and not to let the door hit her ass on her way out, and now me? You’re asking me what kind of American I am? And this is relevant to the argument, how??

    1. You seem to have one answer for every comment you don’t like. “Get out of my country!!”

    2. Please look up “ad hominem.”

And please don’t let the door hit YOUR ASS on your way out of this so-called blog. I don’t need to ask *you* what kind of American YOU are, because I already know. You’re the kind with a really crappy education who can only see one dimension of an argument. You’re definitely part of the problem.

    Buh-bye, nimrod.

Natalie on August 17, 2010 at 4:17 pm

Debbie, thank you for this article. I never quite comprehended how the WNBA stayed in business putting out the product it does while competing for an ever dwindling entertainment dollar.

My main problem with the WNBA is that televised sports are supposed to be about excellence. The WNBA is not. I played Ice hockey in college and remember all the fanfair given to the Women’s Olympic hockey team. As I watched them play I was dismayed by the fact my college team could kick their asses.

One female sport I do watch is beach volleyball (What is it about those Brazilians?!)

The best example of the problem with female ( Especially team) sports would be the female world cup championship soccer match several years ago. I remember the commercials with the players pleading with President Clinton to attend the game like he was some errant father. The game sucked. These girls had no idea how to create offense off the pass and it was like watching paint dry. The had to the nerve to call this “THE” greatest soccer game ever. Pele? Maradonna? Beckham? No. Brandi Chastain and her jog bra.

Barry on August 17, 2010 at 9:58 am

I am so deeply intrigued by this blog, and laughing myself silly. Clearly you have never seen WNBA players off the court. And by the way, heels look good on every woman. I am six foot four, and I wear them proudly. I DO NOT, shrink, bend, or try to make someone else feel comfortable with who I am and my height, that is a personal problem. I cannot believe that another woman is saying its not right for a female to be aggressive! What year is this? If being strong, being powerful, having self esteem, makes me a “man”. I would much rather be compared to that, than called a woman if you are what I am supposed to aspire to be like.I love my muscles, I love my body, and yes there are Men who have loved too, its not a fetish, its appreciation…believe me. Your negativity is astonishing. Remember there were women who fought just so you could have a blog.Even if you dont support the W, why be like that? just don’t watch. You contradict yourself, you say no one cares, yet here you are writing a blog on it. As far as sexuality, your points speak to a double standard. While there are many gay/lesbian supporters of the W, as well as players…ummm so are there in mens sports, you just don’t hear about it as much in the media. The W is NOT trying to be the NBA, we are the WNBA. We give little girls role models, we support our communities, we are leaders and entrepreneurs, we are mothers, wifes, daughters, mothers, and yes partners. I personally know Yelena, and standing next to her, you would look like the small(minded),short(on tolerance) unimpressive female you have represented yourself to be in this blog.
I really could go on about your backwards-ness, but ill end it with this. As Susan Rice quoted at the WNBA Empowering Womens Luncheon, “there is a special place in hell for women who do not support other women”.

NAKIA SANFORD on August 17, 2010 at 1:34 pm

Debbie, I agree with you on many issues, but on this issue about the WNBA and womens sports, I completely disagree with you on this issue. Debbie, are you saying that women are not suppose to play sports? I watch womens college basketball games, and those young women can play Debbie, and yes women can do anything men can do, but I don’t watch the WNBA or the NBA for that matter, there are some people who watch the WNBA and that’s their opinion, just like everybody elese here is entitled to their own opinions. If you don’t watch womens sports, that’s ok, it’s your opinion, but I don’t go along with the bashing of womens sports, to me it’s knee-jerk behavior. And most of the players in the WNBA are good young women who’s very intelligent, and when they retire they have themselves a family or continue their education even further by getting a master’s degree, etc.

“A nation is identified by it’s borders, language & culture!”

Sean R. on August 17, 2010 at 1:39 pm

To poster Nakia Sanford, well written, I agree with Debbie Schlussel on just about every issue, but I think she’s completely wrong on this issue about the WNBA and womens sports in general. What these young women are doing in sports is positive to young minor girls out there, there being role models as you pointed out, these young women who play sports are NOT bad or evil people, and when I see these women play sports on television, I don’t feel inferior to them, nor I don’t look at them lustfully in a sexual way, I have nothing but respect for them, simple as that. And I think some of the posters on this site are using the knee-jerk behavior by mocking womens sports, and to me it’s tasteless and disappointing!

“A nation is identified by it’s borders, language & culture!”

Sean R. on August 17, 2010 at 1:50 pm

Sean R. – I’ve gotta disagree with you. There a very, very few pro athletes that can even be considered good role models from the degenerates that plague all sports these days. And as Charles Barkley put it – I am not here to be a role model. That can probably be said for most pro athletes.

Jarhead on August 17, 2010 at 5:55 pm

Jarhead, you got a point right there pal, not all athletes are great role models for young people, but there are some athletes (both pro & college) who are good role models for young people. Now I’m not a fan of Charles Barkley Jarhead, to Charles Barkley is sorta of an embarrassment, Jarhead, I remembered back a few years ago when the Auburn football team hired Gene Chizik from the Iowa State football team to be their head coach, the very next day Charles Barkley went onto ESPN, Fox Sports, or some sports network and he used race as an issue. Barkley said that “Auburn (his alma mater) should’ve hired Turner Gill because Turner Gill is a black man, blah, blah, blah, & they hired Gene Chizik because he’s a white man, blah, blah, blah”! When Charles Barkley made that ignorant comment I said to myself that this schmuck faked it all of these years by pretending to be a conservative, all this time this putz has been a friggin liberal. So Jarhead, your right about Charles Barkley he’s no role model for anyone.

“A nation is identified by it’s borders, language & culture!”

Sean R. on August 18, 2010 at 10:24 am

You are spot on about the W being an affirmative action experiment. In our capitalistic society, ventures that can’t produce the revenue to cover expenses go away. Why they prop up this mess is beyond me. There are so many idiots that have never dribbled or shot a ball that think the W is great fundamental basketball. The WNBA plays at a JV level at best. The best WNBA player would struggle to score on or guard an average rec league player. I’m talking about the guy who played in high school, wasn’t good enough to play in college, but loves the game and plays pick up and league ball at his local gym,not fatty couch potato who can walk or chew gum. They aren’t that bad.
That’s why I can’t watch it. It is simply a very poor product on the court. All of the apologists try to fabricate reasons why the ratings are lower than poker. We are mysogonists, sexist, threatened, uninformed and every other excuse you have heard. No, we just will not waste our time on bad basketball.
I also get fed up with the argument that they should get respect. They can’t do anything better than average joe and they want respect. You have to earn respect. Play better.
The WNBA is to the NBA, like the special Olympics is to the Olympics.

Greg on August 28, 2010 at 7:14 pm

WNBA is a good thing. Keeps a few of them off the streets for a while.

John Prewett on April 18, 2011 at 9:34 am

Fellas (you too, Natalie), I think a few of you (Sean) have been drinking the PC Kool-aid. Organized team sports (OTS) for girls encourages aggression for no other purpose than to masculinize the sex. Organized team sports for boys (after grade school) are merely the unsubsidized minor leagues for professional team sports. Setting aside the canard “student athlete”, boys’ OTS service an economic demand (another sad commentary on our society that we over-value athletes and actors) while girls’ OTS service a liberal political agenda with negligible economic demand. As our society’s women get more aggressive, the few remaining threads of the nuclear family become more frayed: it isn’t a coincidence the world’s highest divorce rates are in the highest concentration of aggressive women. The reason divorce rates leveled off is, generally, men don’t want to marry overly aggressive women.

Ydchftvgv on August 11, 2012 at 5:02 pm

Agree completely with the author of this blog,to be Frank the WNBA basically sucks. It is so unfortunate that in today’s society lately such a small group of extremely biased people ( Feminists) with an agenda can have so much influence on our culture. Men and Women have inherent and substantiate differences this does not mean one is superior to the other or vise versa just that each has advantages and disadvantages similar to many other obvious paradoxes in this world, hot/cold, day/night,even/odd it’s the yin and yang basically. This also does not mean that people should be artificially limited, judged or held back because of there gender.

But modern Feminism part of the Larger Liberal agenda which has it roots solidly held from Communism, promotes itself under the guise of tolerance, equality and all that is perceived as “Good” but in actuality strictly operates by threat of Force and control. Nothing is wrong with advocating for women or men for that matter but when you do it at the cost of bringing someone else or another gender down, then it becomes a problem. Herein lies the major problem with Feminism it is basically anti men at its core.

Now how does this relate to the WNBA, Well first like stated above generally speaking both men and women have certain traits as whole that make them somewhat unique and advantageous. Although there are exceptions like the lady who commented above who stated she was 6’4″ and who has obviously had to adapt to her circumstances and has learned to accept her own self consciousness and is now proud because of it, which is great, but she is the exception Not the general rule, most women would not benefit from her masculine attitude about life. There is an old saying in Poker a strong player bets big when he is up and bets low when he is down and a weak player bets big when they are down and small when they are up. This is a great strategy for life even, maximize things you like and minimize things you don’t, which you could also substitute many other things. Whereas Feminists and other “Politicall Correctness” supporters are trying to force everyone to play big when they are down a losing proposition for all of us. They want all men emasculated and all women masculine which neither sex generally speaking are at there Best at, sure breaking some of the old gender barriers is not nessarily bad but we are WAY past that, this isnt the 1950’s anymore, a mens league should not be forced to subsidize an unprofitable womens league. Somewhere along those lines women were taught that Feminity was weak or not desirable which is completely WRONG, from a mans point of view that is there greatest and most powerful asset, while men also have certain advatages one of those being physical games that require strenght and athletism etc, like Basketball.

So why push a league that has not been successful and doesn’t by any means showcase womens greatest talents? Nobody cares if women play basketball of Football or any other predominately male sport but when it comes to making a successful professional league that is profitable on its own merits I do not think it’s the best idea, especially when there are so many other activities that would better benefit women. Think of it like this if we were to look at the WNBA from a truly non sexist sexless point of view you would have to come to the conclusion that the WNBA players are no better than your average high school varsity male players, so why are they receiving all of this special treatment that many men players who are much better are Not?? Because at the end of the day that is the primary objective of sports in general and especially professional sports to showcase the best in the play of that sport itself regardless of identity.

I hate the WNBA too, but because it’s boring, passive and low-energy compared to men’s basketball, not because “the women look like men”. What kind of misogynist statement is that? What the heck do you care what they look like, and why do you require them to look like girly-girl stereotypes? What kind of 50s-housewife thing are you trying to promote here? Would you rather they play in cheerleader skirts, LOL?

Of course women attracted to competitive sports will have a higher level of testosterone naturally, and that will translate into a less feminine appearance. What’s your point? Does it somehow diminish these people’s value that they deviate from their gender’s average look? What the hell is wrong with you??

Oh, wait, never mind. I just read through a variety of your ramblings and realized that you’re a raging homophobe who debases anyone deviating from their prescribed gender stereotype, and who thinks that bigotry and hate are proper “family values”. LOL, it all makes sense now, and I’m sorry I bothered. Carry on, Sarah Palin/Michele Bachmann (part stupid, part crazy.) Good thing your morally repulsive kind is quickly going extinct, and we won’t ever again have to deal with the likes of you in 30 years… then we can get started on world peace.

Debs you’re wrong in that if the WNBA were pretty to look at, nobody still would watch them because they’re not as good as the men. Look at women’s tennis. In a major tournament, a women’s match draws a LOT of men, often for their looks, but even when Lindsay Davenport was matched up against Jennifer Capriati or Justine Henin…you could clearly see LOTS of men in the stands. Lots of men watch Serena play just to see Serena. Men watched powder puff layers like Anna Kournikova play because of her looks. So yes, if the WNBA were prettier, lots of men would turn out; the same reason they turn out to watch elite women’s volleyball — not necessarily because they have prettier faces, but because their uniforms show more of their body, unlike the ugly WNBA baggy uniforms that make the women look 30 lbs heavier and conceal their buns and thighs.
