Dumb People Mag Story of the Week: 13 Women Who Need to Grow Up

By Debbie Schlussel
Saying that anything in People is “dumb” is kind of redundant, but this story merits the redundancy: “Thirteen Women . . One Diamond Necklace . . . And a New Path to Friendship.”
13 self-absorbed female airheads from Ventura, California really need to grow up. People “reports” on a middle-aged, sagging group of women who desperately wish to relive their youth in a silly version of “Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants” (a movie silly enough in its own right).
The women spent $37,000 on a diamond necklace they collectively own and call “Jewelia,” after cook Julia Child (you can just hear her squeaky high pitch voice). That’s annoying enough. But wait, there’s more. They have two rules for the necklace: They must wear the necklace at least once while having sex, and whenever they go to Paris. The necklace, they say, makes them feel “energized, altruistic, and sexier.”
Time for them to grow up, and for me to vomit. BTW, this issue had more slobbering over on the cover. Enough said.

I have to admit, the story almost makes me vomit too, but I think ranting about it to the extent you do is almost as self-absorbing. I don’t see the point.
Terrorists can potentially harm each and every one of us, so I can understand some of your complaints there.
But what have these women who need a life done to you? Or to anyone but themselves (OK if they’re going to throw away $37K like that maybe just give it to the needy or something, but still).
I just don’t get it…stick to fighting Al-Qaida and their ilk. 🙂

Cripes, I’m in Ventura county. Looks like we need an idiot comb to do some brushing.
(and wouldn’t that necklace be pretty nasty after awhile?)

It looks like some people are a little ticked they weren’t included in this.

You know these women?
A woman has to be “young” to enjoy wearing a beautiful necklace?
Maybe we should rid the world of middle-aged sagging women?
Would that get you over your vomiting problem?
Who should grow up?

I think ALL of you need to do your research before opening your mouths. I work for a non-profit here in Ventura County and next month the women of Jewelia are putting on a fundraiser for us and they are doing all the work, including getting everything donated so that ALL the monies from the event go to my organization’s cause. So what if they choose to spend thier money on a necklace, had you actally READ the article the point isn’t the necklace at all it is the unity and friendship it represents!

Trust me, the necklace has been used for evil as well as good. One single women in the group continues to use the necklace to seduce and in doing is destroying lives and relationships. While the necklaces purpose may be good, it is sometimes in the hands of someone who abuses it.

You are far from “the truth” when you comment on evil. Perhaps you should look inside yourself. Check out their site and all of the philanthropic works they have done in their Ventura community. Their experiment is being replicated globally.
