Me in Federal Computer Week on Blogs & Anti-Pork Legislation

By
Recently, President Bush signed a very important piece of legislation into law–the Federal Funding Accountability and Transparency Act.
It exposes the pork–and all other spending (more pork) by Congress. We get to see where the money is going, and it’s all available online. Several blogs (mostly conservative ones) were credited by the Bush Administration for putting Congress’ feet to the fire and getting the bill passed.
I was interviewed by Federal Computer Week regarding this and how the Bush Administration–and the Office of Management and Budget (OMB)–can galvanize the power of the blogs for other legislation. Here is my quote:

“Pork spans both sides of the aisle, and both liberals and conservatives will benefit from seeing where the money is going,” said Debbie Schlussel, writer for the conservative . No one wants less transparency.
Officials need “red-meat conservative issues” to get the conservative blogs to champion them, she said. “When they are touting good, old-fashioned conservative red-meat issues – like exposing government pork – they will succeed with bloggers’ help.”

My point is that we aren’t going to help Bush–or anyone else–on behalf of “Guest Worker” ShAmnesty legislation or the Bush Admin’s never-ceasing special treatment and outreach to Islamic extremists.
Even conservative blogs, especially this one, are not blind cheerleaders for George W. Anything but. We’ve, proudly, been very critical of the sillier–and scarier–efforts by the Bush White House.

I’d like the 600 dollars of my tax dollars that went to provide Folley with a computer to have cyber sex with underage kids on.

It was Foley’s own computer, from his home by all accounts.
Anyway, to answer Debbie’s thoughts, it will take another (really bad) Islamic assault on the USA before our government gets its head out of its butt.
Better yet, the attack could be with a small nuke in DC.

Congrats Ms. Debbie:
The TRUTH will set us ALL free!
You deserve every bit of attention and accolade you get.

Hey Descent and Craig C–did you post those comments under the right article here? Just checking…
Anyway, Debbie, you are so right on this. It is about the issues. Bush or Republicans be both damned if they can’t stand for secure borders and meaningful citizenship–not one you get a head start on by CHEATING–what makes sense in that.
Let’s hold their feet to the fire issue by issue–though there are a lot of no brainer issues these days–it seems that many Republicans try to out-Democrat the Democrats–to kiss butt by giving away the treasury to ever more entitlements and then even appease the illegal and their supporters.

Craig, Foley engadged in cyber sex with a former page right before placing a vote on emergency defense spending. This means that it was done in his office, unless you believe that he drove home, had cyber sex, then drove back to vote.
And BB, I think it’s appropriate because this is a column on congressional spending, and, well, our tax dollars DID pay for that computer.
