But Some Are More Equal Than Others – Mel Gibson’s Latest Bigoted Rant

By Debbie Schlussel

As George Orwell observed in “Animal Farm,” all of the animals in the barnyard are equal, but some are more equal than others.  And so it goes with Mel Gibson’s latest bigoted rant.

melgibsonhitleranimalfarm2

Gibson was allegedly caught on tape using the N-word with his estranged concubine/babymama, Oksana Grigorieva, as well as uttering all kinds of obscenities, including the c-word and other standard low-class stuff.

But what’s interesting to me and reader/attorney Jon Grant (see his on-target comments below) is all the fuss being made over Gibson’s use of the N-word and calling Blacks gang rapists.  It’s extremely offensive, but no surprise.  The guy’s  a bigot.  And we’ve known that for quite a while.  It’s not new.

In fact, the outrage now seems to go far beyond that caused by his anti-Semitic rant against a Jewish Los Angeles police officer.  Talk now is that this alleged conversation could end his career.  But why didn’t his anti-Semitic remarks about the Jews end his career?  Why did he still get to make movies and have half of Hollywood defending him, including anti-Semitism scholars, Rabbis Jodie Foster and Patrick Swayze?  Is bigotry against Blacks less acceptable, anti-Semitism more acceptable?  For me, it’s not a question, but a fact.  And it’s not new, either.  When Blacks, Muslims, or liberals are attacked, it’s important.  When Jews, other White people, and conservatives are attacked . . . cue the crickets.

Just like George Orwell’s barnyard, Mel Gibson’s Jew-hatred and out-of-wedlock fatherhood are no big thing.  It’s his attacks on Black people that are important.

Reader/Attorney Jonathan Grant (hire him if you need a great intellectual property lawyer):

It just goes to show you can say any vile thing about Jews and get away with it, you can cheat on your wife and have kids out of wedlock while still married won’t hurt your career, but using the N-word and using filthy language with your girlfriend will.

P.S. Have a great Fourth of July, and remember the greatness of our founders (you know, those dead white guys the liberals vilify).

Jon, who is Jewish, notes the difference between Americans like him and “Americans” like Gibson:

My great-uncle died in the Spanish American War, we had relatives who died in WWI, three of my four uncles served in WWII (one has 5 Purple Hearts, but we’ll save that story for another time), and the fourth uncle served in Korea.

One of my mother’s cousins was MIA/KIA during Vietnam (Marine Colonel shot down flying over North Vietnam), and I volunteered for the Navy when I graduated from the People’s Republic of the Washington College of Law, Un-American University, but was not accepted for medical reasons (colitis).

WHO SAYS JEWS DON’T FIGHT? COWARDS LIKE MEL GIBSON WHO BEAT UP WOMEN AND WHOSE FATHER TOOK THEM TO AUSTRALIA TO AVOID THE DRAFT? . . .

Jews made up about 8% of the U.S. Armed forces serving during Vietnam, at a time when they made up about 3.4% of the U.S. population.

Right on, Jon. Amen.  (And my own Jewish father was drafted and served during Vietnam, unlike the Gibson family.)

OMG!

Mel Gibson and his hatred. He will never “get it” that his life is cursed because he is anti-Israel; and, therefore, he is anti-God.

How is that working for you, Melly?

As goes Israel - so goes the World on July 2, 2010 at 12:56 pm

I’m kind of sickened by all the WOMEN that commented (on Radar Online) that “the slut probably deserved it, we don’t know what she said to him, everyone gets mad and says awful things,” etc. I’ve been really mad before, but I’ve never told ANYONE I hope they get gang-raped, let alone an intimate partner. Never even secretly wished it on anyone.

There are lines you don’t cross, and this dude is just pissing all over them – and has been for years, as pointed out here.

hellcat on July 2, 2010 at 1:06 pm

Its true a divorce can bring out the worst in people but disrespecting the mother of your children, making death threats against her and acting like a pig is not the way most people would want to handle a divorce. For a man who cheated on his wife and appeared to have learned nothing from it, its no surprise he’s found himself in another failed marriage. If you can’t treat the people closest to you with decency and respect, you are not going to treat Jews, blacks and others with the same consideration.

Just sayin’… and a bigot is born at home!

NormanF on July 2, 2010 at 1:20 pm

Does appear to be a double standard (if this does end the career of Gibson). (Slightly off-topic, I’m still upset/appalled at that UK judge who acquitted vandals at an arms’ manufacturer on the grounds that their violence was *preventing* X from occurring. What a travesty of jurisprudence — I trust that the US Constitution would prevent a similar occurrence in the United States. The UK “judiciary” appears to be now heavily politicized — how dangerous for a democracy. Budding fascism under the guise of Leftist “progress”, I guess. Anyway, I think that “judge” should be under judicial review and removed from the bench.)

J.S. on July 2, 2010 at 1:07 pm

There is a double standard. You can hate Jews and nothing will happen to you. Say you hate blacks and see if the doors at still open to you in Hollywood. We’ll see if its really over for a guy who has shown every one just how vile you can be while being famous.

    Mel won’t be missed.

NormanF on July 2, 2010 at 1:31 pm

Its going to be interesting to see how Hollywood deals with his “N” word utterances.

Anti-Semitism is the only politically correct form of bigotry. All the rest is verboten.

Good bye, Mel – and be sure to let the trash hit you in the rear as you plunge to the bottom on the way down.

Where you rightfully belong! Good riddance!

NormanF on July 2, 2010 at 1:10 pm

You could say that Melly will be meeting up with Michael Ricahrds as he skyrockets downward!

Am I the only one to notice that Mel Gibson’s mustache looks like Hitler’s?

Zsuzsi on July 2, 2010 at 1:25 pm

Not really a gibson fan here but i gotta say that in the radar article i read he didn’t say he wished she got gang raped but that she would get gang raped. And another thing when these women get involved with these spoiled rotten hollyweird elitists ,…ummm do they really not know what they are gettin into?I mean if i were about to get really serious with someone,i mean serious enough to shack up with and have a baby with i would know if they are racist or not.Just sayin…

sidney mullis on July 2, 2010 at 1:25 pm

Not even hardened sailors talk like that around women and children. The reason Debbie is so harsh on him is the higher your station in life, the more is expected of you. And some people fail not only at the most important thing in life but in setting an example to others. Having fame carries with it a set of obligations and yet we witness from Miley to Mel, no one prominent in the popular culture seems to want to uphold them these days. That’s why she writes so much about this stuff… life is more than just the movies, stupid!

NormanF on July 2, 2010 at 1:39 pm

He said she would get gang raped and it would be her own fault, which implies she deserved to get gang raped. And yeah, I’m sure she knew he was racist – how could you not – but may or may not have known that he was abusive. Plus, some people are very charming when you first meet them; some people manage to maintain that charming facade until you’re hooked and then all bets are off. Anyway, my issue was more that people (on Radar) were commenting that his behavior was probably her fault and that this was a totally natural way to behave with the mother of your child, which – we can argue on whether or not she should have known better until the cows come home, but I don’t think anyone deserves to be talked to the way he talked to her.

hellcat on July 2, 2010 at 2:01 pm

No one would ever talk that way to their parents. It goes double for your wife and your husband. There is a line you don’t cross in our society. And Mel has all the mental maturity of a three year old in his divorce fight. So much for being a man in the most difficult moments in life. What’s the old true and trite saying here? “Character is destiny.” And so it is now that we know the truth about his life with Oksana Grigorieva. Its not something to admire.

NormanF on July 2, 2010 at 2:15 pm

I’m sure you’re correct, Debbie.

That being said, I think most people know that Mel Gibson is a pretty messed up guy in a lot of ways.

Word! I think its funny how this post denotes racism yet everywhere else on this site there is racist comments. If Gibson hated Muslims I doubt Deb would have called him out on this one.

I just checked out Michael Richards’ post-2006 list of credits on the I.M.D.B. He is playing the voice of a minor character in an upcoming animated feature about cats. That’s it. I suspect that in another three or four years, Mel Gibson’s post-2010 list of credits will look similar.

I will say this much…It is amazing just how long this guy was able to keep his real proclivities suppressed. He managed to carve out quite a career from 1979-2002 co-starring with alot of Jewish and black actors in many films, with no reports of any outbursts of this nature. I guess when age catches up to some people, it acts like a truth serum, and all sorts of nastiness finally starts bubbling to the surface. Helen Thomas managed to make it to 90 before lowered inhibitions got the better of her. With Gibson it was 50.

Something else I’ve been pondering for some time now. According to Wikipedia, Gibson comes from a typically large Catholic family and has nine siblings. I wonder how many of his brothers and sisters have also inherited their dad’s mental genes. It wouldn’t surprise me if a few of them didn’t. Not everybody takes after their father.

Say what you will about Arnold Schwarzenegger’s governing policies, at least the man is not a Nazi.

Daniel H on July 2, 2010 at 1:41 pm

The irony of Mel Gibson’s life is the screen heroes he played are very likable and you can identify with them and cheer them on. Its just too bad the real man, a hateful bigot, doesn’t even measure up to them. Here is an instance where life doesn’t imitate art. Not even close.

NormanF on July 2, 2010 at 1:57 pm

    Ridiculous!

Don’t mean to rain on everyone’s parade but I think radar online has yet to provide actual proof. Their last story that turned out to be bunk was that Chief Justice Roberts was set to retire.

Oscar on July 2, 2010 at 1:41 pm

Its only an allegation of course, but if the recordings do exist, making death threats is a felony. And so is saying your concubine/babymama should be gang-raped. I would think that would interest the police and the prosecutor. These things have a way of getting out of hand – and the word is often the father to the deed.

I forgot to mention that my father also served in WWII. Thus of four males of age, all served in WWII. The fifth male, to young to serve in WWII, served during the Korean War.

All served proudly, with honor, and were discharged honorably. And all were Jews.

Jon, you are a mensch and a credit to your family and you do the Jewish people and the human race proud. I admire all the men in your family, including your father!

Thank you so much for being asked to guest post to what Debbie put up today. And I wish you a very Happy 4th!

May you live to be 120!

NormanF on July 2, 2010 at 2:46 pm

Debbie – Mel Gibson lost my fanhood and any chance of getting my box office dollars after his first rant, and he gained my disgust after he divorced his wife and had a baby with this other woman. Now, he has my pity. I think we should all pray for this man, he is clearly under some serious spiritual attacks. The devil has this man spinning around! Pray for him, I’m serious!

C on July 2, 2010 at 3:06 pm

C, I liked him in “Braveheart” and in “The Patriot.” But his personal life is a reminder that its very difficult for some people to come anywhere close to the stature of the people they play, in real life. People are capable of producing great art and of being a moral abomination. One can have absolutely nothing to do with the other. Great art does not necessarily produce people of great character. Something to keep in mind when you watch one of those films.

NormanF on July 2, 2010 at 3:13 pm

Daniel H:

Ummm … blaming Michael Richards’ decline on his racist outburst is nonsense. The guy was only famous from Seinfeld, and hadn’t done squat since. He was only performing stand-up at that club in the first place because he wasn’t getting TV or movie roles and was trying to jump-start his career, and the club only booked him because he was still famous from Seinfeld. But his act was terrible, and Richards verbally attacked the patrons because they got bored and started ignoring him, talking to each other and on their cell phones. Now as to why Richards singled out those people in particular as opposed to all the other folks in the club who didn’t like his act … well you will have to ask Richards. Granted, they were seated close to the front, but they were still far from the only ones. Richards got a lot more publicity from that outburst incident than he ever would have gotten otherwise.

As far as Mel Gibson goes, Chris Hitchens claimed around the time of “The Passion Of The Christ” controversy that when he met Mel Gibson, the guy went on a shocking, vulgar and extremely long homophobic diatribe. I paid no attention to it back then because I am not a fan of the source – Hitchens – and it was also in Bill Gates’ leftist Slate.com. But if what Hitchens says is true, then Gibson has had problems for a long time and people were ignoring them before now.

It is easy to take the easy way out and blame Gibson’s father, but Mel Gibson is responsible for his own views and actions. And allow me to say that anyone who is familiar with the movies, TV shows, music albums etc. produced by Hollywood knows that the town is chock full of racists, anti-Semites, misogynists and misandrists. Most of what Hollywood markets is hate. It is true that hate sells, but it is also what they like to deal with as subject matter. So, it’s not a surprise that this stuff gets out, but only a surprise that it doesn’t more often.

There is also a bit of hypocrisy and double standard. Other celebrities make these slurs all the time and no one cares. Such as when Paris Hilton was caught saying the “N-word” a couple years ago? Nothing happened.

Gerald on July 2, 2010 at 3:16 pm

Difference between Paris and Mel—“The Passion” made money because Mel was supposed to have some moral props. He doesn’t. He, like his father, is a worthless scumbag.

On the other hand, everyone knows Paris is/was a brainless …..

    Occam's Tool on January 29, 2011 at 4:17 pm

If you’re a leftist, you’re forgiven. So yes, there is a double standard in Hollywood but I hasten to add that does not mean we have to passively accept whatever goes on there. Celebrities are neither above the law nor above censure.

NormanF on July 2, 2010 at 3:31 pm

Mel is discovering that dumping your original wife who gave her youth and beauty in order to bear and raise your kids and help your career isn’t such a great idea.

C’mon why would a much younger woman want a 50 year old man when she could get a young hardbodied guy ???

Answer—-$$$$$$. The more the better. While Mel is a known racist, according to this story she was wearing a wire !!!!
I think she purposely pushed his buttons, got him really ticked off, and he was ranting and raving.

All of this gives her more ammo to suck more $$$$ out of stupid old man Mel. He was dead wrong, but so is she.

I bet he regrets leaving his wife more and more each day….

jimmyPx on July 2, 2010 at 4:13 pm

Why would he? They say wisdom is wasted on youth but stupidity is no respecter of age.

NormanF on July 2, 2010 at 6:04 pm

NormanF:

That one line sums it up: “if you’re a leftist, you’re forgiven”. So true. Leftists can say anything they want, racist, sexist, homophobic, etc., and Hollywood will come to their defense, arguing that it was “in context”. Self-loathing Jews are drawn to the entertainment industry like flies to poop, so antisemitic material is not only acceptable, but encouraged. Racial remarks about blacks are less so, but still acceptable if you subscribe to the group think. There were rumblings a few years ago that Gibson was a conservative. Nothing could be further from the truth. Just because he describes himself as a devout Catholic, doesn’t make him Sean Hannity

spiffo on July 2, 2010 at 4:46 pm

Sean Hannity wouldn’t find any problem with his views. That’s the guy who is on good terms with the neo-Nazi who wrote “The Turner Diaries.” Like I said, some forms of bigotry are more equal than others.

NormanF on July 2, 2010 at 5:54 pm

Let’s see how many of the attacks on Gibson for racial prejudice mention his long history of anti-Semitic prejudice, and put his current outbursts in that context. Not very many, I’ll bet.

Little Al on July 2, 2010 at 5:44 pm

LittleAl, there’s a history of celebrities whose careers have been ended for merely making insinuations about blacks perceived to be racist. But there’s no penalty incurred for being an anti-Semite.

NormanF on July 2, 2010 at 5:57 pm

Although Sen. Byrd’s racism seems to be overlooked now by the liberals. Maybe it was his stirring speech against torture of animals a few years ago: BARBARIC, BARBARIC, BARBARIC.

Little Al on July 2, 2010 at 7:34 pm

Its a shame to try and pit Blacks against Jews thru Mel Gibson. Whenever someone disrepects anyone from any race religion or creed I automatically assume he/she is as bigotted toward everyone of color or enthnicity. When Mel was called out for his rant two years ago my first question was what does he feel about Blacks? Now we know for sure. Stop with the blacks against Jews or you are no better than Mel you try to hide it thru self-righteousness but deep down you can be just as hateful and hurtful. I know because I read it between your lines everyday.

THE LORD THOR on July 2, 2010 at 9:17 pm

Mel may/may not be a biggot, but he is certainly coming off as one whether he likes it or not. He has a big mouth and he should learn to keep it shut.

First its the Jews and now the Blacks, what ‘lucky’ minority will he rant about next?

Sange on July 3, 2010 at 12:44 am

The same Double Standard that’s infected not only the US but ShowBiz as well, since at least the ’60s; Whites getting punished and careers destroyed, while Blacks get a free pass for their far worse anti-White screechings( Martin Lawrence, rappers galore,Paul Mooney,Spike Lee,Jaime Foxx,Mary J. Blige,Dave Chappelle,Denzel Washington,Halle Berry,Blair Underwood,Van Peebles Sr. and Jr.,etc, etc, etc ).Same goes for other non-Whites.

Phineas on July 3, 2010 at 11:46 am

wow- i wouldn’t say what he has said, about jews or blacks.
but being drunk and regurgitating what he was taught maybe or believes about wars and saying the n-word to graphically drive his abusive point doesn’t make him a racist.- sorry i wont judge him. 2 statements and you people are ready to brand him as one.

the verbal abuse is not acceptable– sounds like a drunk- oh wait he is- add that to the obvious emotional argument and you get a lot of bullcrap. get off your high horses people.
I love debbie but didnt think much of her first story on gibson nor this one- I gues she dont live in a glass house.

markcom on July 3, 2010 at 11:10 pm

Wanna bet that Mel is a good Obama supporter?

Swell.

But he hate N****s & Jooozzz, it all makes sense, doesn’t it?

sheik yer'mami on July 4, 2010 at 1:36 am

Well, at least he didn’t use the “D word” because as a proud “D word” myself, I’d be highly offended. Now if he used the “P word” or the “R word”, that would be different because unlike those groups, there’s so many more “L word” people who would take offense.

Quorum on July 4, 2010 at 3:22 am

There is not a double standard here. Gibson’s career in Hollywood was long over for a long time. When he wanted to find backing for The Passion of the Christ, no Hollywood studio wanted to back him because of the accusations about the anti-semetic nature of the film. Gibson ended up financing the film himself and Hollywood criticized it for being blatantly anti-semetic. Many Christians just blew off the criticisms and flocked to see the movie, lining his pockets and supporting his career despite the DUI and the rumors of his bigoted ways.

Barb on July 4, 2010 at 5:50 pm

Never liked Mel either as a person or as an actor as he reminds me of the typical vicious drunken bigoted thugs that are a major fixture of the low class white trash anglicans around the world.

RG on July 5, 2010 at 10:31 pm

I am a traditional Latin Rite Catholic IN the Church not outside it as Mr. Gibson chooses to be. For the record, I think his film The Passion of Christ was the most obscene Sadistic perversion imaginable and I find it extremely odd that as a director, he chooses again and again to show semi-nude very handsome young men being tortured horrendously in loving close up. Something…. going on there. I was recently arguing that ‘Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf’ was a better Catholic film than Gibson’s sado-homo-erotic gorefest. After all it emphasizes marriage – better or worse, the life-giving meaning of having children and the healing balm of love even after a horrendous night of cruel ‘games’.
