Jihadi Journalist: The Real Peter Jennings

By Debbie Schlussel
While the rest of the world is blindly singing the praises of Peter Jennings, here’s a reality check: Peter Jennings did more for the cause of Islamic terrorism than any media figure today. And that’s nothing to celebrate, honor, or even memorialize.
Before there was Al Jazeera, there was Peter Jennings.
From the beginning of Jennings’ career until his death, his biased coverage went beyond the pale, bending over backward in “understanding” the terrorists who hate us– from seeing “their side” when he covered the siege and then murder of innocent Israeli athletes at the 1972 Munich Olympics to honoring an Al-Qaeda operative with a prized “commentator” spot during Jennings coverage of the 9/11 attacks.

Throughout Jennings’ coverage of the attacks, he frequently featured a man named Tariq Hamdi (whose commentary urged understanding for the radical Muslim world), identifying Hamdi only as “journalist” on the chyron.
But, in fact, Jennings’ friend Hamdi was no journalist at all. As I’ve written, Hamdi was an alleged Bin Laden associate and employed by Islamic Jihad’s U.S. frontman, Sami Al-Arian.
According to prosecutors and documents in the 1998 trial of the Bin-Laden bombings of U.S. Embassies in Africa (the 7th anniversary of which was yesterday), Hamdi provided Bin Laden a satellite battery instrumental in those bombings. He’s also an unindicted co-conspirator with Islamic Jihad frontman Sami Al-Arian, who employed him at his Islamic “charity” fronts at the University of South Florida. Hamdi was also an employee of a Saudi-funded charity raided by Customs agents for allegedly laundering billions to Qaeda through the Isle of Man.
This is the type of “journalist” and “commentator” Jennings frequently employed in his so-called newscast of which he was an all-controlling editor.
I always say, pillow talk is the most effective form of political speech. And it apparently had its effect on Jennings early on. When developing and heading up ABC’s Beirut headquarters, Jennings dated (euphemism) Palestinian “beauty” Hanan Ashrawi. And it colored his vitriolic, anti-American, anti-Israel coverage ever since.
Then there were the sneers, the sneers of a Canadian high school drop-out for anything conservative, anything mainstream, anything pro-Western, pro-Israel, etc. Jennings’ sneers and snide comments were always evident for those who did not meet his very left-of-center point of view. A great example was his sneering during the 2000 vote recount, and after, when Bush was declared President. Another was his sneering just after the 9/11 attacks when Bush delivered his speech to a joint session of Congress. Jennings’ elitist sneers will NOT be missed.
While I never wish death upon anyone, it’s only sad that Jennings despicable brand of advocacy journalism–parading as “news”–wasn’t laid to rest along with him.
Unfortunately, that will not happen. Sadly, the female, more personable, non-toupeed version of Jennings–Elizabeth Vargas–is set to step into Jennings’ shoes. She got off to a great Jennings-esque start in her first hosting duties at ABC’s “20/20,” last fall. She delivered a very sympathetic profile and interview of HAMAS operative and fundraiser . Expect more of this to come.
It’s sad when anyone dies of cancer. I won’t dance on Jennings’ grave, the way he danced on the graves of young, innocent athletes slaughtered at the Munich Olympics–the way he blasphemed their murders with his shallow, understand-the-Islamic-terrorists coverage. Unlike the murdered Munich athletes he dishonored, Jennings died in peace and without pain. He got to say good-bye to his loved ones. They did not.
I will remember Peter Jennings for the less than honorable person he was–not the emperor with no clothing that is now being memorialized.
Jennings used to end his newscasts with, “And that’s a look at our world.” No, it wasn’t a look at our world, at all. It was Peter Jennings’ slanted world, and every day he acted as if he was doing us a favor giving us his warped look at it.
Jennings’ legacy is helping advance the cause of Islamic terrorists on broadcast television, parading it as news. He wrote his own epitaph with it. Unfortunately, it came with a lot more tombstones and epitaphs than just Jennings’–and most of those buried beneath are a whole lot more innocent.
They are the victims of Islamic terrorism–the brand Peter Jennings helped build into a network news product. That cancer, unfortunately, is still here. And it has metastasized.
***UPDATE: Here’s , now indicted on immigration and mortgage fraud. Makes Jennings’ claim–that Hamdi (who has ZERO journalism experience) was a “journalist”–even more outrageous.
(Read more on the REAL Peter Jennings.)

Debbie, I applaud you for this and as you are aware you will get a ton of heat over this column.

Jeff_W on August 8, 2005 at 9:18 am

Right on, Debbie. Better people die every day and they receive hardly any notice.
For example, New Zealand’s most successful businessman, Russell Smith, and his wife just died in a plane crash. Nobody will hear of this “high tech pioneer” as the MSM cries for one of its own.
http://www.nzherald.co.nz/index.cfm?c_id=1&ObjectID=10339848
“HumanWare chairman Timothy Robinson said the crash was a “massive shock” for everyone who knew the couple. He described Dr Smith as the “Bill Gates” of an industry that provided information technology for the blind and visually impaired.”

Grant on August 8, 2005 at 2:37 pm

i’ve never heard of you, but somebody just told me about your totally tasteless post.
you have no idea what you’re talking about.
just read your bio: that’s the most desperately stretched-out list of mediocre accomplishments and near-misses that i’ve ever seen.
but i guess hacks like you have to exist for us to appreciate the real journalists. shame on you.

DrJimmy on August 8, 2005 at 2:45 pm

Debbie thank you for your courage in publishing your honest assessment of Peter Jennings. Unfortunately, dying does not change a person’s record in life. Over the years Jenning’s broadcasts were characterized by an abiding hostility to the USA and its instutions. His attitude was ” the enemies of the US right or wrong” He did specials in which he blamed the US for all that was wrong in the world. One example was the special he did on why the USA was wrong in dropping the bomb on Japan, despite the fact that this act saved many American and Japanese lives. Jennings attributed the bombing to narrow power interests vis- a- vis the Soviets. Jennings himself admitted that his mother tought him to hate the United States. As far as his biases in the middle-east conflict is concerned its no accident that the chief correspondent for El-Jazeera in Washington commended ABC in particular for its “objectivity”. I’ll never forget an exchange between Jennings and the military expert, Anthony Cordesman, during the Gulf War. When Cordesman attributed much of the success of our military forces to improvement in our weapons systems as well as command and control advised by the Israelis, Jennings became enraged and started to argue with this military man about a subject he obviously knew nothing about.

Tim on August 8, 2005 at 4:09 pm

You’re right-on-the-money as usual, Debbie. Another excellent post! “Palestinian Pete Jennings” was also infamous for covering the anniversary of the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima as if the United States was evil for doing so, and his story was replete in that it intimated that it was completely unnecessary for America to use such a weapon to protect, not only the lives of the U.S. military, but also the hundreds of thousands of civilian lives (over and above those who perished in the bombing).
He also covered the 1994 Congressional election results with his usual sneering for the Republican sweep by saying, “The American people threw a temper tantrum tonight.”
Finally, this terrorist-understanding, left-wing, America-hating, Canadian liberal only became a U.S. citizen just a few years ago. He lived a great life all those years sneering at America from his journalistic ivory tower.
My condolences go out to his family, but I, for one, will not miss him.

Thee_Bruno on August 8, 2005 at 4:49 pm

Hey Debbie, who cares about Peter Jennings. Good story though. Yet can you please explain this?
On June 8, 1967, Israeli warplanes and torpedo boats launched a ferocious two-hour attack against the USS Liberty, an American intelligence ship operating in the eastern Mediterranean. Of the 294 men aboard the vessel, 34 were killed and 172 were wounded.
Thanks
FROM DEBBIE SCHLUSSEL: KOAJaps has asked me, in a comment above, about the U.S.S. Liberty incident (which has no relevance to Peter Jennings). In fact, Israel was cleared of any responsibility in this incident by Judge A. Jay Cristol, a former U.S. Navy pilot. His book The Liberty Incident” was praised by Foreign Affairs magazine as “the definitive book on the Israeli attack during the Six-Day War. . . . A superb account.” I urge everyone to read it, as it shows from a transcript of Israeli pilots that Israel was not at fault.

KOAJaps on August 8, 2005 at 4:58 pm

wow, your supporters are as pathetic and stupid as you are.
knee-jerk conservative radicalism. you guys are right wing nutjobs.
so, how is Fox News, your favorite network, NOT advocacy journalism?
morons.

DrJimmy on August 8, 2005 at 5:05 pm

Great article Debbie. Guess you hit a sore spot with poor ol’Dr Jimmy, Grant and Jeff W. Funny how the truth infuriates the left wingers tottering about in their pitful little worlds. Keep up the good work.

Patriot Heart on August 8, 2005 at 5:06 pm

My apologies to Grant and Jeff W, I did not undestand which name went with which posts….it is DR Jimmy , Sally and NiRav who are so sadly misguided.

Patriot Heart on August 8, 2005 at 5:29 pm

As usual, the liberal kooks cannot argue with the truth. Their only recourse is to try to attack the messenger. And they wonder why people are abandoning the Democratic Party in droves.

Saichel on August 8, 2005 at 5:40 pm

She shoots, she scores! When detractors respond, not by attempting to discount any of your facts, but by pure ad hominem, or even being so lame as to resort to a quasi-Fisking of your bio (LMBO at THAT feeble effort), then you know you’ve put one in the ten ring. Nicely done.
KOAJ, what does the Liberty tragedy have to do with Peter Jennings? (maybe Debbie’ll start a Liberty thread)

Yngvai on August 8, 2005 at 5:48 pm

the only thing she scored was score a cheap goal for right-wing nutjobs and journalistic hacks. ad hominem attacks are her stock and trade. she gets what she gives.
if she’s going to go around slagging somebody on the day after he dies, then she deserves a little invective.
read her post, most of it is based on saying that he supposedly “sneered” and made what she construed to be “snide comments.” “sneered?” please. how are these facts? they’re not. it’s baseless right-wing hysteria, ready to pounce on anything that might bear even the slightest resemblance to anti-American and/or anti-Israeli sentiments.
she accuses him of bias, but only because he doesn’t share her own incredibly biased opinions. hypocrisy.
and you could easily pick one of Bush’s prominent colleagues and/or business partners and tie them to terrorism. so what?
jennings was a patriot and a first-class journalist.
she hasn’t proved anything except that she has no class and that she is stuck with her narrow-minded monolithic worldview.
i’ve read some of her past posts. think about it: she repeatedly criticizes everyone of the SAME THINGS, over and over again. anyone who takes her seriously is a moron.
she’s just upset because jennings dated a palestinian. that’s the basis for her attack. the most primitive of prejudices is what drives her here.
think about it: she’s saying Jennings is responsible for terrorism. that’s crackpot thinking and it’s offensive.
she says “I will remember Jennings for the less than honorable person that he was.” – that’s just a despicable thing to say, no matter what your views.
and even if you like her, you have to admit, her bio is a joke.

DrJimmy on August 8, 2005 at 7:31 pm

Jennings’ stance during his coverage of the Munich Massacre is fact. His friend being Hamdi is fact. Hamdi’s ties are fact. Yes, quite a bit of this column is her opinion of Jennings, but what of it?
As an anchorman on one of the “Big 3” for a long long time, his status has been elevated by some to the equivalent of journalistic sainthood. I disagree. He was a talking head who routinely and subtly pushed the anti-American side of his stories. He was a piece of the homogenous CBS/NBC/ABC triumverate who has forwarded their agenda for years. I don’t disagree with everything they say, but when the three main networks all report stories from the same slanted perspective it gets to me. Granted, I haven’t really watched Jennings for awhile, but I don’t expect that his style changed from when I’d seen him last. Debbie taking him down a few pegs – even post mortem – is fine by me.
Why is it despicable for one to feel that Jennings was less than honorable? It’s not as if Debbie is going to the funeral and speaking her position there. A personally run blog is the perfect place for someone to address whatever opinions they have. It happens on both sides. For instance, others on the left dressed down President Reagan shortly after his demise (not that he and Jennings are in any way comparable – not even close.) While I disagreed with it, one of the things that’s great about this country is that they are able to do so.
And I don’t see anything wrong with Debbie’s bio other than it being a bit lengthy. So what? She’s done a lot, and there’s nothing wrong with stating so to qualify her to those who may question her background. Although I do see that Sally’s pitiful attack of the bio was removed. I didn’t see anything there that was vulgar or warranted removing, misguided and pointless as it was. But hey, it ain’t my blog.

Yngvai on August 8, 2005 at 8:15 pm

DrJimmy,
Long on opinion and short on facts, aren’t we? Read what she wrote. Read what you wrote. I’m not a Dr, but I can distinguish an argument supported by facts from baseless assertions.

MarkD on August 8, 2005 at 8:21 pm

If you siimpering sissy hippie libs want to eulogize your hero Peter Jennings, why are you reading La Deb’s site? What did you expect, dummies? Debbie is hardcore! Go to Oprah’s or MSNBC’s site or something.
Is Debbie lying or mistaken about Tariq Hamdi? If Debbie was not factual, let’s hear it.
So what if a lot of her column is her view? Guess what?, 99% of the conservatives felt the same way about Jennings. I had zero respect for him as a newsman and so did a great deal of people. His contempt for conservatives was transparent.
I echo the same sentiment as Thee_Bruno, my condolences go out to his family, but I, for one, will not miss him.
“Dr” Jimmy, how about enlightening this right-wing nutjob by listing your superior accomplishments?

The_Man on August 8, 2005 at 9:25 pm

I have to give you credit Debbie, you were able to say your piece while still offering condolences to his family (something I noted lacking in your piece on the London bombings) and noting things like “still, its sad to die of cancer”. In that sense, true kudos here and in my view makes your piece look less biased and more a statement of “the facts on the ground” regarding Jennings’ past in this regard.
While I agree with most of it vis-a-vis Jennings pathetic attempts to “humanize” the terroristas, etc. (as I believe Yngvai said “the facts are there and are the facts, it it not simply Debbie’s biases”), I must say in regards to the lines “the sneers of a Canadian high school drop-out for anything conservative” and “sneers and snide comments were always evident for those who did not meet his very left-of-center point of view”, please don’t tell me the same doesn’t hold in reverse from people like Ann Coulter, Rush Limbaugh, or Sean Hannity (OK none of them are high school dropouts….actually I think it is college that Jennings dropped out of, but that wasn’t my point).
One last thing, I seriously doubt that he died in peace and free of pain. I’ve had both a father and a grandfather die of smoking-related lung cancer and believe me, the last days were far from pretty, while most cancers end ugly, it is one of the roughest ways to go. Maybe if more people saw this they wouldn’t start smoking and all. However, I do grant you the point about “at least his family had the chance to say goodbye to him”, which the Munich victims of 1972 did not have.
Not bad.

hairymon on August 8, 2005 at 9:32 pm

Hey Thee_Bruno, the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki was not intended to stop the war in Japan but to show a force to the communists that we (the U.S.) were a force to reckon with. Both Hiroshima and Nagasaki tagets were civilian population and guess what? American and European allies were killed…POWs :O why didn’t America at least release the American hostages? Because the powers that be wanted to sacrifice a few so that the majority would live. Oh and guess who the power brokers were? The Democrat party, the liberals, while the Republicans, the conservative voted against the war. At least Bush won’t drop a nuker on American troops in Afghanistan or Iraq…maybe Clinton would.

KOAJaps on August 8, 2005 at 10:22 pm

jennings was functionally anti-semitic. dying didn’t make him any less of a douche.

shleppy on August 8, 2005 at 10:29 pm

How about Howard Stern? Debbie loves him and vice versa. I love it when he rags on her and hr Jewness but he does love her. You think Debbie needs a makeover?

KOAJaps on August 8, 2005 at 10:53 pm

Why is Debbie deleting posts that don’t support her views? There was a great comment earlier in the day that happened to have differing view on Debbie’s thoughts on Jennings and she felt the need to delete it.
You’re pretty thin skinned, aren’t you Debbie? Can’t take the bad with the good, huh? You’re pathetic.

Clompo on August 8, 2005 at 11:08 pm

I hate to speak ill of the dead, but Jennings was, in my opinion, just another BAF socialist who used his journalist name and fame to bash America, Bush and anyone who wasn’t a diehard leftist like himself.
With ‘friends’ like Jennings, we didn’t (and still don’t) need any enemies. May he rest in peace, but somehow…I ‘doubt it’.
Thanks for your informative and gutsy article!
PS….ignore the name-calling leftist LOSERS.

Dania on August 8, 2005 at 11:49 pm

Oh, gimme a break! Neither do I want to speak ill of the dead, but you’d think Jennings was a saint if you’ve watched TV today and there’s a glowsing special on him coming on ABC. 9999999 people in the news praising Jennings like he invented broadcast news and you guys getting your shorts in a knot over one voice providing just a little reality?
P.S., KOAJaps,
I don’t think Debbie needs a makeover, but she does need to post a new pic here on the site. It’s a nice pic, but it’s time for a new one, Debbie.

The_Man on August 9, 2005 at 12:07 am

you people are all insane. jennings loved america, he revered the constitution and the declaration of independence.
he also loved journalism and dedicated his life to serving the american people. he didn’t have any anti-american agenda up his sleeve, that’s so ridiculous. you’re just upset because he didn’t openly show a conservative enough bias to appease your deranged, partisan view of the world.
in fact, most of the people you right-wing nutjobs criticize actually LOVE our country. is that so hard to accept?

DrJimmy on August 9, 2005 at 1:23 am

And this Hamdi business is hardly a compelling “fact.” I’m sorry, what was Jennings’ direct connection to Hamdi? When and how many times did Hamdi appear on ABC?
How many people have appeared on new shows passing themselves off to be something that they’re not? Have none of you ever been tricked in your lives? Does that make you a dishonorable person? Do you really think Jennings would KNOWINGLY put a terrorist on the air (which hasn’t even been confirmed, i can’t find any proof of it. the only thing i can find is that Hamdi helped set up an interview. but yes, he was scum.) But seriously, do you really think Jennings would do this knowingly? Grow up.
How many other thousands of people has Jennings interviewed while trying to do his job?
You’re all a bunch of naive fools to buy this out-of-context, half-explained crap which plays right into your skewed vision of the country: A COUNTRY FULL OF PEOPLE WHO LOVE AMERICA, EVEN IF THEY’RE NOT RIGHT-WING NUTJOBS! idiots.

DrJimmy on August 9, 2005 at 1:43 am

Well at least we all know what sort of “Doctor”, Jimmy is. He’s so far up Jenning’s ass, he can only be a proctologist.
Here’s a suggestion ya mega-gobbed pea-brain, you don’t like this site or the comments, then get off it ya leftoid dope. Go drool over Rather, or wet dream over Couric – you know, those other loony left hacks attached by the hip to the Forever Canadian Jennings. But please… do it in private and try not to scare the horses.

espresso on August 9, 2005 at 6:14 am

The_Man, DrJimmy, and other Left-wing moonbats…
Research for yourselves instead of attacking Ms. Schlussel you lazy, whining puss-bags.
START with Jennings relationships, who he was banging (and when), and the relationship to Arafish.
Contrast it with his news reporting.
Pretty simple really.
Keep up the great work, Debbie! (and I say keep the pic you have up).
PS: To say “yes but Ann Coulter and Rush Limbaugh…” is non-sequitor. They are admitted right-wing COMMENTATORS and have no relationship to Jennings… Unless, of course, you surrender the point that the comparison is valid because Jennings was a left-wing commentator (and NOT just an unbiased reporter).

SonOfTheGodfather on August 9, 2005 at 8:51 am

Hey, Doc,
Read Debbie’s new column above, with the line, “Jennings, while mentioning absolutely nothing about Hamdi’s disturbing activities, also noted that Hamdi was his friend.” There’s your direct connection, unless you can prove the lovely Debbie is incorrect.
Gee, I can’t even watch SportsCenter without hearing how Jennings was a saint and the end all and be all of news.
Get a grip! He was just a news talking head. He wasn’t a President or important political figure. People die all the time, including celebrities.
Great job as always, Debbie! I knew this would happen, but you are one tough babe.

Jeff_W on August 9, 2005 at 8:59 am

KOAJaps is a typical lib who engages in historical revisionism whenever real history conflicts with his agenda.
If the atomic bombs dropped on Japabn were meant just to be a show of force to the Communists in Russia, then why didn’t Truman just invite your hero, Joe Stalin and the other Commie butchers to a demonstaration in the desert Southwest? No, the bombs were meant to stop the war in the Pacific – Germany had already surrendered in June 1945 while the Japanese showed no signs of letting up. Besides, Uncle Joe Stalin already knew the power of the “bomb” because he had his spies set in place during the Manhattan Project.
As far as which party was in power at the time, it was the Democrat Party. However, the Democrat Party of WWII bears no resemblance to the America-hating lunatics who run it today. Back then, the Democrat Party was made up of patriots and did whatever it took to defend America.
Nice try, but there’s a problem with your attempts at revisionism – all one has to do is a little research to find the REAL truth.

Thee_Bruno on August 9, 2005 at 11:05 am

I can be accused of many things, but a left winger is DEFNITELY not one. Reread this thread, notice my “The_Man” UNDER the post, and voila’, as those sissy coward Frenchies say. Great Piece. I am glad u articulated what i felt about Jennings. I would gladly take the heat for u. It is sad, he got away with this pathetic form of journalism, which u really can’t call it real journalism. He is not the only one out there u know. Thanks for your piece today, it puts my mind to rest. I am glad someone else saw through the face. Well now he has been converted, now he knows that there is a GOD and his name is not allah.

RFK on August 10, 2005 at 7:52 am

Since I don’t have time to outline the mans entire liberal career I thought I’d pick out one comment and post it. Maybe the rest of you will too. This is Jennings’ complaint from a late night talk show expressing his disdain for Giuliani’s success in tackling the homeless problem in New York City.
“There are none of those little shanty towns anymore, they’ve all been pushed away. Some people may think that’s a good thing but I always thought it was sad that we hide the homeless because, because it’s a fact of life and I also think it’s incumbent upon the rest of us to recognize the homeless and see the homeless and look the homeless in the eye because there’s no lower status in life than to be without a place to live.”
What kind of self indulgent twerp thinks like this? Elitists really make me sick because they say this kind of stuff and then act like they care about the ‘little’ people. What homeless person wants Jennings to come by in his limo just to stare at them. They’d look at him and think, “He’s looking at me and thinking how much better he is than me,” and according to his statements they’d be right.

Rick P on August 10, 2005 at 10:14 am

And it’s always nice to have ‘little’ people around to make u feel big. It’s like that hot girl in school that would always have ugly friends because it made her feel REALLY hot. They are not doing the other people any favors. It’s all selfish.

Rick P on August 10, 2005 at 10:18 am

I grew up in Canada. Everything she says is true about the innuendo that Canadians are very liberal, politically, and think they’re better than us. They do loathe us–more openly now, but it was always there, that feeling of superiority–even in rural Canada. Jennings embodied that, I agree. The sneers were there.
He was a liberal yes, but the fact that he was Canadian had a lot to do with his personal make-up, too. He almost couldn’t help himself. I’ve changed because I’ve led a normal life, but Jennings circulated amongst the very upper echelons of the ivory tower elite so his liberal bubble was left intact.
I grew up despising the United States and I didn’t even know why, or for that matter, even noticing it until I moved here. I’ve had a while to think about it since that was 26 years ago.
Canadians have a huge inferiority complex when it comes to their behemoth neighbor to the south. They lap up our culture and are totally dependent on our economy, but there are deeper resentments that fester at every level.
Since they can’t even claim ownership of their own distinguishable culture and economy, they resort to clinging to aspects about themselves that differentiate them as “Canadian”–trivial stuff like hockey and the metric system. So when Americans tend to completely ignore them–since they contribute next to nothing to our society–that infuriates them. And the fact that many Americans can’t even point to Canada on a map infuriates them even more. So they resort to lame attempts to get our goat, like voting against us in the U.N., and going into a “major” lumber trade war with us (don’t laugh, it’s a BIG deal in Canada).
The vitriol is a bit heated in the comments here between the left and the right, but it’s tame. Try visiting a Canadian message board if you’re curious to witness blood boiling. I visited some after 9/11 and it had me in tears. And after we invaded Iraq, the hatred they expressed towards us–it was pathological.
So I think Peter Jennings had a bit of that hatred in him.

Schattenjaeger on August 10, 2005 at 10:47 am

If Jennings was so concerned about the homeless, why didn’t he buy one a home? I don’t know the exact numbers, but I bet he made millions a year. He could have donated about $150,000 (equilavent to me donating $50) to buy a pretty neat house that would have housed a couple out in the suburbs. He could have had a few more of his rich lib friends to donate a house and they could have solved homelessness in NYC in no time.
Here’s a thought, why doesn’t Jennings’ family honor his memory and donate about half his estate to buying homes for the homeless?
I will now refer to Canada as North France for now on. Except for a few rare exceptions, what has Canada done for us, inflicting us with the insufferable, screeching Celine Dion, bimbo Pam Anderson, that pinko wimp Michael J. Fox, and booing our National Anthem at their hockey games? BTW, hockey is a stupid sport, on a level with soccer and WNBA, played by a bunch of mullet headed foreigners.

Jeff_W on August 10, 2005 at 11:05 am

Hockey is their release valve. There’s that saying: “I went to a fight and a hockey game broke out.” Who knows, at least they’re not strapping bombs to themselves.

It never ceases to amaze me how 99% of the t.v. news broadcasts, radio broadcasts, and top 100 daily newspapers can spew their Pro-Israel agenda to the American public ad nauseum, but when one news reporter such as Mr. Jennings wants to present the opposite side’s point of view, such as the Arab or Palestinian sentiment, he’s branded an Anti-Semite or Anti-Israel. Such accusations are a total cop-out that Pro-Israel agenda pushers turn to every time. Jennings was a reporter. A reporter explores both sides of the story. It is the right of Arabs and Palestinians to be heard. The fact that the Pro-Israel contingent wants to silence that voice stinks of censorship and paranoia. Kudos to Mr. Jennings for having the courage to stand up for the Arabs whose voices are all but ignored by 99% of the American (re: Pro-Israel) media. $3 billion in U.S. aid to Israel (not counting all of the fighter jets, missiles and other weaponry) is appauling, especially when those weapons are used to kill Palestinian women and children. Shame on you! Shame on the American public for blindly buying into the Pro-Israeli lies!

ezrinjem:
99% of MSM is PRO-Israel? That means you will be able to actually come up with 99 examples of PRO-Israel bias over Jennings terrorist sympathies. Please cite them (not just media names, but actual examples, as others have shown for Jennings).
One wonders, ezrinjem, what color is the sky on your planet?
If you are unable to give examples to back up your claims, I suggest you clamp your pie-hole until you find evidence which supports your ridiculous position.
…And I agree that $3 billion in U.S. aid to Israel is appalling… Especially after we agreed to payoff the new Pale-king a few billion. We should increase our contribution to Israel accordingly.
Thanks for reading, ezzy.

Dear SOTG,
Obviously, there’s not a lot of room here to list the countless examples of Pro-Israel bias in the print and broadcast media. All you have to do is turn on your t.v. or pick up The New York Times. Do you want me to do the work for you, or do you actually want to bone up on what’s really going on before you spout off on this blog? Then again, I highly doubt that the Pro-Israel bias could be seen by you through the Anti-Arab/Pro-Israel glasses you obviously wear.

PS: Jeff_W: would you care to elaborate on your comment about Ricky Martin? I sure hope it’s not a reference to any question of his sexuality, as I would hope that such a cheap shot would be beneath even YOU. But I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s what you were referring to, since people who don’t have a leg to stand on usually have to resort to hitting below the belt.

Further, Ricky Martin put on the headscarf without knowing what was written on it in Arabic. Not a smart thing to do in retrospect, but he’s an entertainer, not someone who is politically in the know. But perhaps you should cut him a break, Jeff_W. He was there on a humanitarian mission, which is probably more than anything you’ve done to help the children who suffer from the endless bloodshed in the Middle East.

Ezrinjem,
That’s just pure idiocy.
1. You make a (wildy unsubstantiaed) claim, YOU have to back it up. You stated a 99% Pro-Israel agenda. I asked for 99 examples of a Pro-Israel MSM… You couldn’t supply a single one? Your failure to site even a few examples smacks of weak desperation. I pity you, really.
2. Ricky Martin, much like yourself, is an idiotic tool. Ignorance is no excuse for displaying slogans of hatred… Wait, I take back that last sentence.

Quote of the day – Debbie Schlussel

“Jennings’ legacy is helping advance the cause of Islamic terrorists on broadcast television, parading it as news.”

You KNOW-my Late Father (who was a pretty Liberal Jew) had cursed Peter out for Years. He covered the Yom Kippur War (when the Arabs attacked Israel on it’s Holiest Day) solely from Egypt’s side. I heard him make at least one Anti-Israel remark during the Gulf War, too. His Lover was Famous Palestinian Politician.
