I understand the practice. I think one of the issues here is to try and begin to understand the cultural, societal, and historical contexts within which this practice has been created. Armed with that information, one can then begin to approach the issue with some sort of understanding and information. Otherwise, we are merely practicing our form of judgement and ethnocentricity.
That all said. We criticize cultures that tell their girls they must be virgins, yet we demonize girls in our culture who have sex too young. And, we want to ban forms of abortion for those who want that option. If any government can dictate what a person can do with their body, they are wrong. If religious groups act similarly, they too are wrong. Has anyone asked their local reverend/preacher/politician about a woman’s right to choose lately.
And, for all you religious types out there. “let he who is without sin cast the first stone…” Or, “judge not lest ye be judged likewise also”

When was the last time a reverand/preacher/politician asked a woman if she was a virgin that was not a perv? Is it preferable for a woman to be a virgin? Yes for many more reasons than just to satisfy some creeps fantasy. See here in America religions may want their women and men to be virgins until marriage but we don’t kill non-virgin brides, there are no hymen checks. Just because we don’t want to judge people doesn’t mean we should condone such rude behavior, which in Islam many times leads to rape or violence.

1. How many other females in your family are virgins?
2. Can you convince them to convert to Islam?
3. Are there any little boys in your family who might be thinking of conversion?
4. How many times do you masturbate each week?
5. Do you have any “toys”?

7. Why would my other wives mind me taking you as another wife? You’d be giving some of them a break.

“corkscrewy”, just a bunch of bandwagon arguments. Who is this “We” that supposedly criticizes cultures that tell their girls they must be virgins? “We”, except for the radical left, do not criticize any culture for that.
And, many of us don’t “demonize” girls who have sex too young. We do have STANDARDS and MORALS which believe young girls shouldn’t engage in risky behavior.
As for abortion, many of “us” who oppose abortion would have little problem what a woman does with her body. But, some of “us” believe there is an innocent life which factors into the equation, too, so it’s not just a “woman’s body” by itself.
