Manifest Al-Destiny ’10: So, An American Tries to Find & Kill Bin Laden . . .

By Debbie Schlussel

. . .  And this is a problem because . . . ???

binladenrewardmatchbookgaryfaulkner

Gary Brooks Faulkner Tried to Deliver

I don’t get why everyone–every armchair bounty hunter–is denouncing and savaging Gary Brooks Faulkner, the Colorado man and American citizen who was arrested in Pakistan for trying to find and kill Bin Laden.  We barely know anything about the guy, and, already, they’re assassinating his character.  Frankly, he’s–as Presidents Bush and Obama have said about illegal aliens–doing the work that some Americans won’t do.  It’s now apparently some sort of “crime” that Faulkner wanted to “avenge 9/11.”  If only we ever had a President, elected officials, and a military that wanted to “avenge 9/11” instead of intently pretending it didn’t happen and kissing Muslim butt.

The attacks ridicule the man because he was carrying Christian literature.  Oooh, an “evil Christian.”  It rolls off the tongue with the same beauty as “evil Zionist” at a HAMAS potluck shawarmeh picnic.  And, at the same time, when Muslims planning terrorist attacks are caught with Korans (Nidal Malik Hasan, Faisal Shahzad, etc., etc. ad absurdum) , we’re told that’s irrelevant.  Christian literature = fanatic.  Koran = cool, exotic peaceful dude, so stop being a bigot.

Faulkner is also ridiculed because he’s been in jail.  So what?  That means Faulkner can deal with the brutality of male criminals.  We’re told he doesn’t have any military training.  And this is relevant because, with the best, most highly-trained military commandos, we’ve been able to find Bin Laden?  Oh, yeah, they didn’t find him.  And reports say Faulkner thought he found the cave where Bin Laden might be.  Maybe that’s the problem:  that no-one is supposed to find the guy.  Ya know, ‘cuz it might upset Muslims, and we can’t have that.

I feel for the guy because, in addition to the unfair ridicule–how many of us would dare to try what he did and get so far?–he has kidney disease.  This is another complaint lodged in the instant campaign to vilify this man.  Again, I say, so what?  Doesn’t seem to have hindered his effort.  Seems he’s quite resourceful, as he managed to garner many weapons for the trip and apparently snuck them by a lot of obstacles.  Plus, give the man a chance for some happiness and feeling of achievement, if he’s truly that sick.  And if he’s mentally unstable, well, no problem there, either.  Who, but a somewhat unstable daredevil, would brave that area and have the bravado you need to actually go try to find and kill Bin Laden?  We need someone like that.

And then there’s this “smoking gun”:

Faulkner’s brother-in-law John Martin told ABC News that Faulkner talked openly with the family about his plans to hunt down the Al-Qaeda leader.

“He’s a very deeply religious individual, very patriotic,” Martin said. “It seemed to be his thing. He thought it should be done and he thought he could accomplish it.”

Wow, the nerve–religious, patriotic, and wanted to catch Bin Laden.  Sounds like a horrible guy . . . in the warped view of conventional sheepitude.

Sorry, but I can’t do anything but cheer for Gary Brooks Faulkner.  he clearly has the imagination our guys in charge sorely lack. It’s been nearly nine years since 9/11.  And no-one on our side has gotten close to getting Bin Laden since the attacks.  Faulkner may have gotten as close or closer than anyone.  Clearly, no Muslims were attracted by the initial $25 million offer, even though it doubled to a whopping $50 million (a detail ABC News–linked above, ridiculing Faulkner–didn’t seem to know).  Or is it that the matchbooks and posters we spread throughout the Middle East and Asia, promising the reward, is an “Only Muslims Need Apply” proposition?

Faulkner deserves some money for trying.  Or, at least, a book deal.  I like his story, and I’d much rather read that than, say, the Captain Sullenberger story.  It’s far more interesting and exciting.

If only more Americans had this kind of Manifest Bin Laden Destiny.  It’s the old-school pioneering spirit, I wish more American men–particularly the ones in charge–had. Since U.S. authorities are usually the exact opposite, I wouldn’t be surprised if some of the many inept CIA and other national security officials tipped the Paki authorities to his whereabouts and activities.

Daring, brave souls like Gary Faulkner are not the problem. They are the solution. This guy is a hero.

Sad, but sickeningly true.

DS_ROCKS! on June 16, 2010 at 2:34 am

because he was doing what none of our military or politicians could or would. How many remember that Sheik Omar was not dusted because he was in a Mosgue and a lawyer prohibited the CIA predator targeter from pulling the trigger. Omar walked out 12 hours later. Got in his Toyota compact and was never seen again.

pat on June 16, 2010 at 2:43 am

Yup. An American hero. Men like that are in short supply these days. The US Constitution authorizes the issuance of “letters of marque” – writs authorizing private retribution against pirates. Their modern day equivalents are terrorists. If Faulkner had killed Bin Laden, he would be a national hero. He is still is just for putting in the effort. To eliminate someone evil, who planned the death of thousands of Americans, that is a commendable act. And I really don’t care who gets the credit as long as justice is delivered!

NormanF on June 16, 2010 at 3:22 am

This guy is brave maybe he’ll inspire a movement.

Brian on June 16, 2010 at 2:55 am

Like the US government is bent on deporting an ex-Muslim Hasmasnik while it bends over backwards to keep a Muslim terrorist here. Between Moab Hasan Youssef, who converted to Christianity and Gary Brooks Faulkner, the US government appears to have a problem with any one who is against Islam. Hey, we have to kiss up to those who hate us so we’ll be understood by them.

I can’t really figure it out. We do have a problem and its not with the guys we should be against but rather with the guys we should want on our side.

Alhamidullah – the dhimmi infidels are eliminating our enemies for us!

This guy has more “moxie” than Abbey Whatshername.

America…F*** YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!

You probably only have to look as far as the Mayo Clinic to find OBL. I wouldn’t be surprised if plugs Biden flew him in personally to get him treated before ObamaCare kicks in.

Dave on June 16, 2010 at 5:39 am

Bin Laden only exists in the sick twisted mind of ZBGINIEW BRZENZSKI, FOUNDER OF THE TRILATERAL COMMISSION AND MEMBER IN STANDING OF THE COUNCIL ON FOREIGN RELATIONS!

Bob Porrazzo on June 16, 2010 at 6:21 am

He is to be admired in my view.
That was my first thought when I heard about this man in the news yesterday.
There are a lot of people who would love to kill bin laden although this man had the balls to fly to Pakistan to do so.
And if he had been successful, he would have been hailed as an American hero.

Stephen on June 16, 2010 at 7:13 am

Could it be due to moral relativism? or have we now “progressed” (that favorite term of so-called “liberals”) to moral reversals? (George Jonas wrote a column today, titled: “Prepare for moral confusion” — he writes about the Germans going public on Brodsky. There’s a chance that the Germans could send Brodsky to an Arab country (Dubai), so that Brodsky would then be prosecuted for (what exactly?) going after terrorists. In other words, the Germans want to have put on trial those who hunt down terrorists, while the terrorist-sponsoring Arab states, in turn, get to “try” counter-terrorists. That’s our upside-down world in which we live.

J.S. on June 16, 2010 at 8:25 am

Debbie, I believe you may have meant,” some ” military brass. Marcus Luttrell made a mistake in judgement based on the reality of going to prison for the civilian collateral damage he and his boys would’ve committed to carry out their mission. When senators and others in power make heros in our services hesitant, therein lies the blame.
I also feel this man should be busted out asap. Drone attack the shit out of those people and get him out.

There is one thing I don’t understand. Is it illegal in Pakistan for someone to kill Osama bin Liden? Why are the Pakistani police arresting him?

tanstaafl (jw) on June 16, 2010 at 9:07 am

    You’re right: you don’t understand.
He entered the country (Pakistan) illegally.

Mike on November 15, 2010 at 7:08 pm

Two observations:
1. This episode reminds me of how Mexico put “The Dog” Duane Chapman in jail after he captured Andrew Luster in Mexico where corrupt authorities were looking the other way. I don’t think the US embassy or Rice did much to help the Dog out.

2. The negative reactions are simply the manifestation of millions of Americans who have been conditioned to believe that self defense is something only the government and its agents are allowed to do. These same people frown on an American who uses a handgun to defend herself from a rapist–they will contend that she should have just called 911, she should not have resisted, only the police are qualified to use handguns, she’s lucky she wasn’t shot with her own gun, blah blah blah.

3. Seems to me $50 million is a little low, given the PR value of capturing Bin Laden. $100 or $200 million will make it worthwhile for private “security contractors” to go get the job done.

4. Am I the only one who wouldn’t be surprised if Bin Laden snuck across the Mexican border years ago, and is safe and sound in Dearbornistan?

pat: “How many remember that Sheik Omar was not dusted because he was in a Mosgue and a lawyer prohibited the CIA predator targeter from pulling the trigger.”

I don’t recall that particular situation, but I do recall reading of a funeral for a senior Taliban leader with lots of Taliban and al Qaida folks in attendance. Talk about a target of opportunity! Yet there too permission to strike was denied. Anyone else recall (or able to verify) this story?

Raymond in DC on June 16, 2010 at 10:07 am

nothing could’ve been more uplifting — to americans under seige by a muslim president — than having tommy chong lop off bin laden’s noggin’…

damn. so close to the cave.

howardroark on June 16, 2010 at 10:15 am

Pakistan is protecting Osama, they have nuclear weapons (they may not have a delivery system to hit USA yet) so even a tough USA president may not do anything about it(not weak knee Bush or Muslim Obama will do anything about it). Think what will happen when Iran get one. Did the UN do anything about the Argentine Jewish center bombing?
Also on the other hand you have idiots like Buffet and Gates who want to take money out of USA capital and give it as welfare payment to Muslim and other backward countries. If they want to give up their share transfer it to an account to benefit USA. Please note that Buffet company never has paid a dividend and Microsoft has just started paying a minimal dividend.. Both these two suffer from what Rush Limbaugh describe from feeling guilty about making a lot of money. Warren how about paying back investor of banks that used your crummy rating agency and Gates how about paying back investor of company that got run over by Microsoft bad business practices. By the way Saudi reneging on their original oil contract did not make them peaceful. They used monopolistic practices that was illegal for the 7 sister to use. The Arabs living in Gaza, Samaria and Judea are prime example of what happens with world wide welfare payment. The USA and other should immediately stop this welfare payment.

Way to just remove comments you don’t agree with. You really must be pretty thin-skinned.

Frank on June 16, 2010 at 12:13 pm

..there’s a reason why no one has seen bin laden in 6 years…and he has stoped making his vids…or that no moslem ( 99% of whom would sell out their mothers for two goats) has come forward to collect the $50 mil…..bin laden has been dead since Tora Bora.

Catfur on June 16, 2010 at 12:20 pm

To Raymond in DC: Here is the story you are looking for:

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/14823099/

I love the reason for this, apparently we’re not involved in an all out war. Tell that to the people we have over there dying or getting wounded.

We do this a lot. Our soldiers see a golden opportunity and the lawyers at the Pentagon won’t allow it. I remember a comment made during the Bush Administration. Israel has a device that detects I.E.D.s and they were going to give some to our military. They refused. Apparently another set of lawyers felt that these devices would give our people an unfair advantage. Talk about PC being as dangerous as it is useless.

John on June 16, 2010 at 12:22 pm

American has now evolved to “The League of EFFEMINATE Gentlemen,” a namby pamby, pacifist nation, and it’s all because of post-modern progressivism. The culture has been hijacked: from a vengeance is mine mentality- like “Dirty Harry”- to the wussy logic of, “…we have to show the world that we’re above that.” Say what??? Or, just blame Christians!

Meanwhile, as the liberal media plays with itself, Bin Laden is hiding in some cave licking his chops. If Faulkner wants to whack Bin Laden, let him WHACK BIN LADEN…it’ll save tax dollars as well.

Mr Faulker, I salute you!

Patrick on June 16, 2010 at 12:41 pm

To add to Raymond’s comment, the first opportunity missed was the “loya jirga” where all of these filthy godless taliban topdogs met to supposedly vote on whether to turn over bin laden. Was anybody stupid enough not to know the outcome of that little consortium?? That was the spot where the first of many predator strikes against these hypocritical vermin should have taken place. Probably should have had a huge gaggle of NY times and Time magazine reporters covering the taliban meeting close up for good measure.

oldblue on June 16, 2010 at 12:50 pm

It makes is pretty obvious: we don’t really want to kill Osama Bin Laden.

He’s very tall (some say 6′ 4″ others 6′ 6″) in a land of sawed-off little pricks. He stands literally head and shoulders above the crowd. The US knows where he is and so do his muzzie murdering blood-thirsty neighbors.

That is the bottom line. Calling this guy out merely spins or changes the focus.

As goes Israel - so goes the World on June 16, 2010 at 2:00 pm

What if the guy was a jihadi who got caught and used the “hunt for OSB” as an alibi?

I mean, how exactly is some lone yankee/Christian just disporting unmolested in land of muhammad – with the avowed aim of killing bin laden.

I can just see it:

Excuse me, sayeed…could you tell me where Bin Laden lives. I’ve got a gift I brought from the US…

stlreader on June 16, 2010 at 2:08 pm

Debbie – I have to disagree with you about the military not been capable enough to catch bin laden. The ones who are inept are the ones who control our military operations. If you could just take the morons out of the chain of command (starting with the POTUS) and let the guys who know what they are doing take care of business, we probably could have caught osama a while ago. It’s not the special forces fault, it the fault of others in the chain of command who don’t know what they are doing.

Jarhead on June 16, 2010 at 2:23 pm

    Right on Jarhead!
I bet you if you offered 50 million bucks to “Delta Force”, and did NOT tie one hand behind their back with all this PC mumbo jumbo rules of engagement crap, they’d bring him back to USA, dead or alive within 90 days…

Who cares? on June 16, 2010 at 2:50 pm

Who cares? – it’s too bad that no U.S. military personnel can accept the bounty on bin laden’s head.

Here’s an idea – once we get bin laden’s head, we put it on a stick and place it where the muzzies want to put up a mosque at Ground Zero.

Jarhead on June 16, 2010 at 6:25 pm

Jarhead, I think Petreaus would love to have binladen. Maybe not tommy Franks, or some of the other pussies that skipped around the issue when the Ft. Hood shooter did his terrible deed. But not every officer is a pussy. They’d be hung if they did the right here. Our leadership was lefty before but now were in deeper trouble than ever before. We need to dig up Al Haig and put him in the oval office.

Speaking of Dearbornistan, Jewish anti-Semites will desecrate the Sabbath by opening a workshop conference to bash Zionism and Israel. I wonder if Imad Hamad will be the keynote speaker!

[deep heavy sigh]

I mean, come on. The man had a sword.

You can applaud his efforts, but, please.

A sword?

I nearly fell off my chair. Then, I tried to buy one of my own. Sadly, you have to go to the mall and buy one these days because buying on online takes too much effort.

A sword?

Have you noticed the MSM likes to preface the word “Koran” with the words “The Holy”. But they never use those words in conjunction with the Jewish and Christian scriptures.

Another one to add to the “Are you NUTS?! but I was really rooting for you” file. I’m curious, did he have a plan or was this on a whim?
My main point though: any president with balls could get this man free in minutes.
POTUS: Place Gary Brooks Faulkner into US custody or else…
POP:…or else what?
POTUS: you really don’t want to know. You have 24 hours…click
Not gonna happen, even though he’s an American in occupied territory, not gonna happen. Only Israel would have the guts to do what needs to be done.
A president with balls…hmmm…when was the last time we had one of those?

theShadow on June 16, 2010 at 11:15 pm

Gary Brooks Faulkner for President!

theShadow on June 16, 2010 at 11:20 pm

Bin Laden is likely in Peshawar, in a Jamaat-i-Islami safe house. PEW polls have consistently reported wide spread support for the terrorist. Magazines extolling al-Qaeda jihad terror have never been suppressed by our “ally.” When Pashto roots of the 9-11 terror became known, I advocated the immediate nuclear annihilation of Kandahar and environs. The solution to Taliban has always been : nation destruction. Too bad Americans have elected 2 village idiots to the presidency, since 9-11

Splank on June 16, 2010 at 11:26 pm

About time SOMEONE remembers Osama!

EminemsRevenge on June 17, 2010 at 7:43 am

At least Falkner was carrying the most appropriate sword for a beheading. It’s far superior to those dull rusted bread knives al Qaeda and the Taliban use.

The man should be praised a hero and I definitely would love to read the story of his experiences.
PBS, if it weren’t so PC could make a documentary.
National Geographic could use his experience with the landscape, fauna and flora.
Obama could use him at his side instead of Dalia Mogahed.
The U.S. Justice Department could use him. Get rid of Holder.
Perhaps he could run for President. I’d vote for him. He’s a hero in my mind and a patriot unlike the other guy, you know, “what’s his name”, Mubarack Hussein.

Kim Bruce on June 17, 2010 at 10:04 am

I would almost be willing to bet that our own state department or CIA turned this guy in to the Pakistan authorities. Both the CIA and our State Department have been infiltrated by the commies that stopped all the other opportunities we had to kill him.
