Illegal Aliens Complain About Tough Immigration Laws in . . . Mexico

By Debbie Schlussel

It’s old, old news that Mexico’s laws against illegal aliens–and legal immigrants–are far tougher than those in the U.S., including the new Arizona immigration law.  And that’s why most of us knew that Mexican President Felipe Calderon’s recent attack on the law, while he was at the White House, was sheer hypocrisy.

illegalaliens.jpg

But what is, in fact, news is that illegal aliens in Mexico are now speaking out about it  AND that one mainstream media source is actually even covering it.

Today, USA Today has nearly half a page devoted to the brutality of Mexico’s immigration agents and its tough immigration laws.  Kudos to reporter Chris Hawley for daring to tell the truth on the other side of the open Southern border.  At least our authorities–whether from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) or the Arizona police–don’t beat illegal aliens to a pulp. We treat them with an excess of humane behavior, and that’s part of why we have the illegal alien problem to which Mexico’s doesn’t hold a candle.

Never thought I’d see this headline atop a page of that or any other mainstream media outlet:

Activists Blast Mexico’s Immigration Law

Glad to see it. And there’s more to see. The important excerpts:

“There (in the United States), they’ll deport you,” Hector Vázquez, an illegal immigrant from Honduras, said as he rested in a makeshift camp with other migrants under a highway bridge in Tultitlán. “In Mexico they’ll probably let you go, but they’ll beat you up and steal everything you’ve got first.” . . .

Mexico’s Arizona-style law requires local police to check IDs. And Mexican police freely engage in racial profiling and routinely harass Central American migrants, say immigration activists.

“The Mexican government should probably clean up its own house before looking at someone else’s,” said Melissa Vertíz, spokeswoman for the Fray Matías de Córdova Human Rights Center in Tapachula, Mexico.

In one six-month period from September 2008 through February 2009, at least 9,758 migrants were kidnapped and held for ransom in Mexico — 91 of them with the direct participation of Mexican police, a report by the National Human Rights Commission said. Other migrants are routinely stopped and shaken down for bribes, it said.

A separate survey conducted during one month in 2008 at 10 migrant shelters showed Mexican authorities were behind migrant attacks in 35 of 240 cases, or 15%. . . .

Beltrán Rodríguez had arrived in Mexico with 950 pesos, about $76, enough to last him to the U.S. border. But near Tierra Blanca, Veracruz, he says municipal police had detained him, driven him to a deserted road and taken his money. He had been surviving since then by begging.

Abuses by Mexican authorities have persisted even as Mexico has relaxed its rules against illegal immigrants in recent years, according to the National Human Rights Commission. . . .

Mexican law calls for six to 12 years of prison and up to $46,000 in fines for anyone who shelters or transports illegal immigrants. The Supreme Court ruled in 2008 that the law applies only to people who do it for money.

Hey, we should take a hint from Mexico in that instance.

Article 67 of Mexico’s immigration law requires that all authorities “whether federal, local or municipal” demand to see visas if approached by a foreigner and to hand over migrants to immigration authorities. . . .

To discourage migrants from speaking out about abuse, Mexican authorities often tell detainees they will have to stay longer in detention centers if they file a complaint.

Can you imagine if ICE agents or Arizona police did that? They’d be behind bars.

Like I said, none of this is news to anyone who’s been paying attention. But it’s news that our pro-illegal alien, mainstream media is beginning–at least in one major source–to tell the whole story about Mexico.

As you said, “Sheer hyprocrisy”.

Mexicans, if they don’t like Mexico, fix it. Don’t steal someone else’s country.

Thieves!

    goldenmike,

You are right on the money. If we spent all of the money that is spent on illegal immigrants, on helping Mexico instead, Mexicans would not want to leave.

The problem is that their government is too corrupt. They waste any money that is given to help their country.

Mexico has a lot of their own natural resources and should be a financially viable country. The reason they are not is because of government corruption.

They want what we have without paying for it… at least I paid up on my taxes. And we should be the flophouse for the rest of the world?

Mexico isn’t. We should take a hint from them on how to manage our own affairs.

NormanF on May 26, 2010 at 1:40 pm

In the spirit of diversity or one world or some such nonsense our government should immediately signal to Mexico that we are dropping our racist and intolerant immigration policies and adopting those of Mexico. Then let’s see what Mr. President of Mexico has to say. And if the Dumb “O” Crats in Congress will stand up and cheer.

Although I noticed that USA Today managed to get in a dig against the Arizona law with the passage about how Mexico’s law was like Arizona’s, & then in the next breath talked about how Mexico engages in racial profiling and routine harassment.

Unfortunately the Arizona law, for all its merits, doesn’t engage in racial profiling. Also, I’m struck by the ingratitude of Calderon. We bailed his country out in the 90s, and what did we get for it? It degenerated into a criminal state that badmouths us at every turn. Shows about bailouts, and shows that when people are racists like all too many Mexicans, there isn’t much we can do about it.

This is just another reason why people aren’t flocking by the millions to live in that third world sh#thole called mexico.

We should set up a new national capital for all of our U.S. representatives in Tucson, Arizona. I bet the border would get fixed pretty quick after that. And it would be a great way to get rid of some of these political weasels who are destroying our country. Who would pay a ransom to get back Pelosi or Boxer?

Mexico’s immigration and residency polices should get greater publicity. Even if you are there legally, there are restrictions on property ownership and other activities.

Worr01 on May 27, 2010 at 12:39 am

Terrific article Debbie, but Debbie did you know at about a month ago the far left wing “International Answer” did a similar report about Mexican immigration laws! Far as I’m concerned, Mexico has the strictist immigration laws in the world, what they do to illegal-aliens from Central American states is criminal to me, and you got progresstard-leftistards complaining and bitching about Arizona’s immigration law, last I checked Arizona’s immigration is NOTHING like Mexico’s immigration law.

And here’s what they do in Mexico to illegal-aliens, they torture them, they put them in some dungeon, they murder them, etc. Where the hell is Al Sharpton, La Raza, Jesse HiJackson, Hispanic Caucas (which is a racist group BTW, just like the Black Caucas), George Lopez, etc. complaining and saying something about the immigration laws in Mexico! Oh that’s right, they’re all HYPOCRITES! All of those people that I named are the left wing version of Elmer Gantry, they have alot of mouth about Arizona wanted to crack down on illegal immigration, but when it comes to Mexico’s immigration law, they are silent and nowhere to be found, they are like the silent films from the 1910s & 1920s.

“A nation is identified by it’s borders, language & culture!”

Thank God the american people are finally waking up to the fact that we are being used. I’m a black man and I’ve always hated the way some people have used race to shut down opposing viewpoints. Thankfully,it has not worked this time. I recently heard Al Sharpton admit (on his radio show) that most of his black callers disagreed with his stance on illegal immigration in general and his recent attempt to insert himself into the affairs of Arizona in particular- the worm is turning. Americans of all races must be prepared to defend our nation. May GOD Bless AMERICA!!!!!!!!

Labrador retriever Hawkeye lays down with a sigh at funeral of his owner

See the PHOTO any real Americans heart will be torn to see that our government has not only continued to reward the Race=666=LaRaza ills; but has welcomed them to steal what we have earned and what our families have had stolen from us: US Military lives cannot be replaced–
The Catholic CHurch Charities file IRS non profit Criminal Department complaints as they are aiding and abetting while US Military: our brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, mothers fathers grandmothers, grandfather lives have been taken each generation…
I cannot understand this EVIL which has taken control…
AP
Petty Officer 1st Class Jon T. Tumilson was killed along with other SEALs on Aug. 6 in Afghanistan.
Story: Maltese dog missing for year after car crash is headed home

The photo was snapped by Tumilson’s cousin, Lisa Pembleton, and posted on her Facebook page in memory of the San Diego resident. Tumilson, 35, was one of 30 American troops, including 22 Navy SEALs, who were killed when a Taliban insurgent shot down a Chinook helicopter with a rocket-propelled grenade on Aug. 6.

“I felt compelled to take one photo to share with family members that couldn’t make it or couldn’t see what I could from the aisle,” Pembleton wrote on her Facebook page. “To say that he was an amazing man doesn’t do him justice. The loss of Jon to his family, military family and friends is immeasurable.’’

Hawkeye was such a huge part of Tumilson’s life that Tumilson’s family followed the dog down the aisle as they entered the service in front of a capacity crowd in the gymnasium at the Rudd-Rockford-Marble Rock Community School. Hawkeye then followed Tumilson’s good friend, Scott Nichols, as Nichols approached the stage to give a speech. As Nichols prepared to memorialize his friend, Hawkeye dutifully laid down near the casket.
