Buh-Bye, PC Jack Bauer: Plug Shoulda Been Pulled Long Ago

By Debbie Schlussel

Tonight is the finale of  “24,” FOX’s series about counterterrorism agent Jack Bauer.  But in this case–the only one in which I support euthanasia–the plug should have been pulled long ago.  I used to love the show, but have long since grown to hate it. I’ve written about the show and its glaring particular problem over and over again.

“PC 24” by David Lunde/Lundesigns

Jack Bauer is a Politically Correct version of the man he once was.  The show is a long brain-dead, comatose body, with a gazillion rehashes of dumb plot lines, where Russians and others are ultimately the bosses of terrorism . . . because the liberals who run the show refuse to admit that, ultimately, World Terrorism, Inc. has allah as its CEO.  For the last several seasons of the show, it’s gotten so preposterous that the terror bosses were . . . Jack Bauer’s father and brother?  Huh?

Yes, that’s the length that “24” and FOX execs have gone to avoid admitting what we all know is true:  WASPy relatives of an American counter-terrorism agent aren’t the ones who tried to blow up Times Square or a plane via underwear.  They aren’t the ones who mass-murdered 3,000 Americans flying planes into buildings.  “24” repeatedly in most of its later years refused to blame the one party responsible for most terror attacks around the world and most attempts on U.S. soil:  Islam.

Instead, we were fed silly, baloney disclaimers, such as the one which actor Kiefer Sutherland had to read like a trained monkey, during an episode in the one season out of two in which Muslims were almost entirely accurately portrayed.  The statement, written at the behest of terrorism co-conspirators CAIR and MPAC (run by the hubby of a woman whose charity funds Palestinian “martyrs”), said that American Muslims are against terrorism.  Really?  Jack Bauer obviously hasn’t been to Dearbornistan where Hezbollah is celebrated as “the Heroes,” and where 10,000 to 15,000 marched daily in support of Hezbollah in 2006 during the Israel-Hezbollah war.  Nor has he been to Minneapolis, where a mosque recruited Somali Muslims to become homicide bombers.  Or Times Square, where . . . well, you know what American Muslim Faisal Shahzad tried to do there.

Even off the show, actors–like Adoni Maropis, who played a terrorist–told us he “understands” the Palestinian terrorists’ point of view.  Vomit-inducing.

Although the show took a pretty good position in favor of torturing terrorists for information, even that took a back seat, once liberals’ shrill cries against it reached fever pitch.  And once self-described “conservative” executive producer Joel Surnow didn’t like his portrayal in a New York magazine.

We were also served up a number of seasons in which Muslims were unfairly maligned and framed as terrorists. Or where Islamic terrorists, such as “Walid Al-Rezani,” in 2007, helped to foil the “real” bad guys.   Where Muslims fought against the terrorists alongside Jack Bauer.  Or, also in 2007, where loyal Muslim Arabs working at Homeland Security, such as employee “Nadia Yassir,” are harassed by Homeland Security brass.  Or, this current last season, where an Islamic Republic (a/k/a Iranian) leader is a great, peaceful man who gives his life to make peace, and the real terrorists are, yet again, the PC “24” ethnic fall guy:  the Russians.

I tired of it long ago.  I tried to watch the show at the beginning of this season, as with the last two, and just couldn’t get past the yawns . . . yawns at the predictable, standard PC leash on the truth, boredom that once again, the bad guys are Russian non-Muslims.

In the real world, if Jack Bauer was constantly looking for non-Russian Muslims as the bad guys, the terrorists would be laughing even harder than they already are at our incompetent national security bureaucracy apparati.

Real-life Jack Bauers exist.  But they see who the terrorists really are.  And their careers are ruined for it.  Just ask Harry Samit, the FBI agent who found and questioned the 20th hijacker, Zaccarias Moussaoui.  The man is an American hero but has never been treated like one.  He begged and pleaded with FBI and Bush Administration brass to look at Moussaoui’s hard drive and warned officials, in many memos including one 70 pages long, that he feared Muslims would fly planes into buildings and that Moussaoui had the information.  But he was turned away by political correctness, because President Bush–to get the Islamic endorsement over Al Gore–was outspoken against profiling of Arabs and Muslims. And his career was ruined forever for daring to do the right thing, to save 3,000 American lives. The nerve of him.

That’s the real Jack Bauer story–the one you barely hear about it.  Hollywood doesn’t care.  Instead, they and Rupert Murdoch and Saudi Prince Al-Waleed Bin Tallal–whose network made a fortune off  “24”–want you to stop being so prejudiced against Muslims.  They’re not the terrorists.  The Russians are.  You know, Russians like Mohammed Dmitry Attanoff and Faisal Shahzadsky.  And don’t forget Umar Vasily Abdulmutallev.

Buh-bye, Jack Bauer.  I need someone who’s gonna fight Muslims.  And you ain’t it.  Your eight days of PC and time clock are passe.

***

Will you watch tonight’s “24” send-off?  Why?  What’s your assessment of its 8 seasons?  Did it break ground?  Or did it revert to the post-9/11 apologism for Islam?

Sorry, Debbie. Everyone knows that since islam is “the religion of peace”, they can’t be terrorists.

Good, one less pro muzzie TV show parading as anti-muzzie.

I will post the same when/if Hoprah is ever off air.

IMO: This show went from an over the top testosterone blast to a sad wippy PC snooze fest.

As much fun as it was, NOBODY would get away with the stuff Jack did. **Too many lawyers!**

The lame PC story lines at the end are very much in line with out current State Department who can’t see an enemy they won’t pander to.

Hey Jack!

See Ya!

Sam Adams on May 24, 2010 at 5:09 pm

I’m going to watch this final show to see if Jack exits stage right into a waiting limo for a ride to rehab for his drinking, or if he gets killed off…then gets in the limo for a ride to a fun bar where he will live out the remainder of his sotted life!

Either way, I did love the interior design of CTU for this season!

RJ on May 24, 2010 at 5:10 pm

I too long ago tired of “24””s political correctness. But another element of the formula I found almost as tiresome as the “peaceful Arab/Muslim” is the plethora of people ostensibly on our own side who betray us. There are always double agents in CTU, people actively involved with terror conspiracies in the White House, Presidents actively involved in grievous impeachable offenses, and the like. There are no dedicated agents like Mr. Samit. They’re all “involved”.

A conservative assessment might argue that government is meddlesome, counterproductive, inefficient, incompetent or naive. But “24”‘s contention is that our own side is not just corrupt but eeeeeeevil. That allows our hero, aided by a colleague or two, to be set free to do things their own way. It’s just the flip side of the liberal intellectuals in high positions who think they “know better”.

Raymond in DC on May 24, 2010 at 5:38 pm

Why are you so racist? you are all doing exactly the same as the extremists you see that hates America and pretend to be muslim while they are NOT representing the muslim world. By sending messages of hate like this article, you contribute to terrorism, because that’s what they want you to do. The real muslim people are not terrorists, because maybe if you had some general knowledge, you’d know that the muslim world doesn’t stop in the middle east and Hezbollah. And then you pretend to be a terrorism expert?

Damien on May 24, 2010 at 5:50 pm

    Chase? Is that you?

    goldenmike4393 on May 24, 2010 at 5:56 pm

So Damien Omen, remind us again- how is muslim a “race”?

“The day [of judgment] will not come until you fight the Jews and KILL them”. Islamic Hadith. Still waiting for it to be denounced, removed, “reformed”, VaticanII’d, or otherwise “cancelled” out of islam by all those “real” muslims…

Doda McCheesle on May 25, 2010 at 1:08 pm

I am very interested to see how everything ends tonight. In some ways, it did break new ground. And, of course, it screwed the pooch on many other things. (The scene with Jack on his deathbed and praying with the Imam comes to mind. Yuck.)

I did watch 90-95% of the 8 seasons. I’ll admit it. I will miss the show. I won’t miss some of the nightmares it spawned. I was creeped out by a scene in season 3, where a little girl is being led back into the hotel by people in very large haz mat suits. I’m very easily creeped out by things like that. That’s why I don’t think I could watch Sleeper Cell. I know it’s more accurate, but I really would like to sleep at night.

cirrus1701 on May 24, 2010 at 6:01 pm

“Sleeper Cell” is a more accurate portrayal of real-life terrorism. But we can’t have Muslims portrayed as the bad guys in Hollywood. Never mind that in real life, they perpetrate nearly all the terrorist acts. “24” initially was a show that held great promise… but it never once could honestly portray the enemy America truly confronts.

Perhaps someday, that show will get made. Its not this one.

NormanF on May 24, 2010 at 6:18 pm

I’m proud to say I watched none of it!

John on May 24, 2010 at 6:19 pm

Currently, the most Islamic a$$ kissing show on TV is “Bones”. Occassionally they would have this character played by an Iranian talking about how American as apple pie they are. Yeah Islam is religion of piss.

Roy Medvedev on May 24, 2010 at 8:22 pm

I’ve never watched this show or anything else made after ’99. I pretty much stick to reruns of old shows I used to enjoy where the writing was lightyears better than today.

THE LORD THOR on May 24, 2010 at 8:33 pm

Kiefer Sutherland is an awesome actor. Rest assured, he’s in 24 just for the money, and not the BS politics of it. This site rocks though. Think I’m gonna be a regular reader.

russell on May 24, 2010 at 8:53 pm

I have never watched this show, but seeing as people who never watched Lost feel free to give their opinion of that I will give me opinion on this.

I don’t really care about if this show reflects real life, I care about wither or not it’s interesting. Are the stories interesting? Are the characters interesting and fun to watch?
If so I’ll watch of not I won’t.

PS What’s with the new tool bar?

Pete Bone on May 24, 2010 at 9:17 pm

Am I missing anything? Cause I’ve never watched a single episode or even a moment of “24”. So I can’t really comment on the show or the actors. I can and will, however, comment on the idea that there are moderate Muslims. Ha, I say and again Ha!!! There is no such animal as a “Moderate” Muslim, that characterization is in the same category as Unicorns. There are adherents of Islam who are more active in the war against the West and then there are adherents who are less active, but all support the War against the West, against the “Great Satan” and in particular against the “Little Satan”. Everywhere you look in the world, where there are acts of terrorism being committed, who do you see as being behind those acts of terrorism?? It’s doesn’t take a genius to figure that out. If so called “Moderate” Muslims were truly against terrorism they would be out in the streets in the ten’s of thousands protesting the acts of terrorism committed by their fellow Muslims. But they aren’t. And as for Ms. Schlussel, I surely hope that by now you have completed a CCW course and are carrying.

Raymond on May 27, 2010 at 3:03 pm

I never watched the show until recently. I’d heard a great deal about it but don’t watch much network television, in any event. When I finally did watch it; I just saw more PC BS and turned it off.

As for Muslims not all being terrorists, of course they’re not all terrorists. I even heard a guy named Mohammed on the radio the other day saying how much he loved America and how much he hoped we could reclaim the country for her traditional values.

However, the phenomenon I see is a majority of Muslims not participating in overt terrorist acts but also not decrying them. This translates into tacit support or “letting others do the dirty work.” I’d be more favorably disposed to Muslims if I could see or hear their ostensible “leaders” standing up for this country and rejecting terrorism and Islamofascism in general. Instead, every time somebody plants a bomb in Times Square or in his underwear, we see CAIR and all the others rushing forth to express their fears about a backlash against all Muslims.

How about it, you Muslims who come to this thread. Let’s hear you denounce the Islamofascists and all terrorist monsters. Then I’ll know I’m wrong. I’ll even prime the pump for you:

I reject all extremist white American groups. Death to the Klan! Your turn.

With as little knowledge, as this bitch Debbie Schlussel (which is a German Nazi name), has about anything, she should just stay at home spread her legs in order to be gang banged and while eating her favorite meal, uncooked little Palestinian children.

Nick Fury on May 25, 2010 at 1:29 am

There are only a few reasons why I never bothered watching “24”.

Like “Lost”, it’s set up in such a way that you just had to be at the very beginning. And the bad guys were – wait for it – SERBS?

(Little did we all realize that in WW 2.0, the Serbs were to the “Catholic” Croats and “Muslim” Bosnians at the Jew were to the barb-Aryans. Little wonder they had such a big chip.)

In fact, in every season, the real enemy behind all that Jack Bauer had to endure turned out to be: WHITEY.

I’ve only watched a few episodes here-and-there (read: I probably have no clue what I’m talking about here – neither do all the haters from all sides), but when was “24” non-PC?

And Debbie, console yourself with the fact that you had the good sense to realize that there is more to entertainment than watching tv fantasy shows. especially one that featured a “patriotic” hero portrayed by a lefty.

And stop picking on the Serbs, now.

The same criticism can be made of just about ALL Network TV shows now a days. 99% of all theatrical movies are also afraid to mention the 800 lb. gorilla in the room. Radical Islam. Not sure there really is a moderate Islam really, except in the fantasies of some warped liberal minds.

Just like the Plains Indians, only much lamer. A coup is when you touch the enemy and run away like a frightened girl. Jack Bowwow was told to leave the country and play hide and seek for the rest of his life from the russian scum. The only “dignified” character was the noble muslim fox who had major grief to deal with. I had to wonder who this fan base for 24 was, I am guessing just a bunch of deluded and neutered libs.

Lars on May 25, 2010 at 8:48 am

I watched it from day 1, and I’ll be watching the last episodes when they’re screened here on Sunday evening.

I love it. I never subscribed to the notion that it was real, because it simply wasn’t. (And I certainly don’t hold with the absurd view that having a black President in the show opened the way for Barack Obama – I have a generally higher opinion of US intelligence than to subscribe to that rubbish). But yes, I’m an unashamed complete and utter fan of the show and have been from the start.

Also, Jack’s family only took centre stage in one series (we didn’t know it was his brother in series 5), so they hardly monopolised the “bad guy” tag. Season 6 is generally considered, even by 24’s most ardent fans, to be the weakest of the 8. I probably agree, all things considered. But I still loved it. And I’ll miss it greatly. No more cause to ask if it’s January yet. *sniffles*

Alison on May 25, 2010 at 9:27 am

I watched faithfully until last season, when my pangs started to fade. The ridiculous story line made me mad. I watched till the end because I had invested 16 hours to the show. This season was more of the same but I watched till the bitter end. The previous Bauer made some appearances, but the Russian story line was just too much. Like most shows, they never know when to quit.

JeffT on May 25, 2010 at 10:28 am

So all Terrorists are Muslim then? So what are the IRA, the Real IRA, ETA, The BLA, The African National Congress, Neo-Nazis, KKK, The Loyalist Volunteer Force, The Jewish Defence League, the United Liberation Front of Asom, The Army of God, The Earth Liberation Front or Andrew Joseph Stack then?

Bhazor on May 25, 2010 at 10:56 am

We’re talking about “state – supported” terrorists, dummy, which is Muslim organized and FINANCED! And it’s done to distract the Muslim people from reforming their own countries. (Do you know how expensive those weapons are that Hezbollah fires off as a celebration? Do you know what ammunition costs? You could create a paradise in the Mid-East for half the cost of what the fighting costs.) The Muslim religion is one of ritual observance and blaming others, not of taking individual responsibilty. Self-examination and self-criticism (and consequently governmental reform) exists only in the West, and it began with Socrates and later with Jewish and Christian thinkers. Muslims never are responsible for anything, hence they always have to blame someone for their own self-made problems.

Now, back to our regularly scheduled program- I too did not watch 24, but I have indeed noticed the “trend” in Hollywood to portray the white American man as the bad guy… look at the first Iron Man movie, etc. etc.

Funny thing is remember when the Russians really WERE the bad guys and all the movies portrayed them as such, from Bond to Rambo (with us helping the Afghanis and supplying guys like Osama with weapons and training)?

Doda McCheesle on May 25, 2010 at 1:18 pm

The Russians were White Guys. And the Russians are still set as the villains in Hollywood movies. Never mind that the Cold War is over.

NormanF on May 25, 2010 at 5:32 pm

What’s your assessment of its 8 seasons? Did it revert to the post-9/11 apologism for Islam?

Series got worse, this year was all over the place, especially with the Presiudent suddenly losing her mind then regaining her conscience at the last second, but you’re right became quite PC concerning Muslims. And ended with a whimper. I thought they’d end the series by setting up Jack Bauer to go after the ex-president in the movie they have planned.

Sweet Couch Potato on May 26, 2010 at 11:44 pm

Don’t know why you ever watched that show in the first place. Their plots always seemed to me just stupid, with a lot of gaping holes in them, and the show overall just boring.

And the premise that just by beating someone up and loudly whispering at them you gonna get the truth out of them in half an hour is just preposterous. Of course the loud whispers are tortuous enough, but it’ll probably gonna take more time than that, and they could be lying so you need to cross-reference and recheck their info. I’d imagine there’s a lot more to the real investigative work than just beating up the perp.

That premise in itself was an affront to viewers’ intelligence and an attack on non-compromising investigative techniques disguised as their endorsement.
