American Hero’s Last Good-Bye: Sgt. Duane Dreasky Goes to Arlington

By
We’ve written quite a bit about Michigan National Guardsman, (, , , and ), who fought for 8 months to survive wounds from a terrorist attack near Habbaniyah, Iraq. The heroic Dreasky suffered burns over 75% of his body, but still tried to salute President Bush when he visited his bedside.
Dreasky wasn’t even supposed to be in Iraq because after a year as a guard in Guantanamo Bay, he was assigned to be a recruiter in Michigan. But he volunteered to go.

Staff Sgt. Duane Dreasky is Buried in Arlington Natl. Cemetery

Sadly, after a valiant fight, Sgt. Dreasky, at age 31, passed away, just over two weeks ago. His memorial service was Saturday in Walled Lake, Michigan. On Tuesday, this American hero was buried at Arlington National Cemetery, an honor he certainly has earned. He was also promoted in rank to Staff Sgt.
Here is an excerpt of the coverage from The Detroit News’ Edward Cardenas and Gordon Trowbridge:

They remembered Staff Sgt. Duane J. Dreasky’s gung-ho attitude, how he was proud of the sharp, starched lines of his uniform and his spit-shined boots. They chuckled over how he once turned off the hot water to a friend’s shower as a practical joke. How he made a cake out of Twinkies and Ho Hos for a birthday celebration.
Most of all, members of Michigan National Guard Company B, 125th Infantry remembered Dreasky as a fighter . . . .
“Even though I was his leader, he had qualities I wanted to have,” said Staff Sgt. Keenon Wallace, who supervised Dreasky during an earlier deployment to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. “He wasn’t ‘like’ my brother. He WAS my brother.” . . .
“If I had an army (of soldiers) like him, I wouldn’t have a job to do,” said Sgt. Maj. Dan Lincoln, whom Dreasky begged for a spot on deployments to Cuba and then to Iraq. . . .
Staff Sgt. Tom Barrett, 25, of Kalamazoo became close friends with Dreasky while they roomed together in Cuba. . . .
“There wasn’t one thing he did poorly as a soldier,” said Barrett. “Here he is, a National Guard soldier who’s supposed to work one weekend a month and two weeks a year, and he would constantly volunteer to serve.”

Staff Sgt. Duane Dreasky

From the Detroit Free Press:

Maj. Gen. Tom Cutler of the Michigan Army National Guard [said] “America just lost an outstanding young person.” . . .
Staff Sgt. Rob Witgen, 39, of Williamston served with Dreasky in Cuba and Iraq. Witgen was not surprised when Dreasky fought to live, for so many months, enduring so much pain while showing so much dignity and class. . . . “He was the epitome of a soldier,” Witgen said. “He was a fighter. His body gave out before his will.”

Staff Sgt. Duane Dreasky, American Hero, Rest in Peace.

When I read that Dreasky, wracked with pain and covered with burned skin, tried to salute George Bu$ch, I was torn between throwing up and smashing my computer screen.
But it was also extremely revealing because it clearly demonstrates that even to the point of zealous, misguided patriotism and death, some people are simply unable (or unwilling) to discern truth from fiction, right to the very end.
Dreasky’s horrendous physical condition was directly related to the actions of Bu$ch, a globalist, and a new world order operative. Bu$ch must have the soul of a demon and the swagger of Satan himself, to be able to enter into a roomful of men whom he has maimed.
Why would Dreasky salute a traitor who has opened the doors to 30 million illegal aliens and who calls patriotic Americans, ‘vigilantes’?
Why would Dreasky salute a ‘Benedict Arnold’ who has attempted to neuter the Constitution and the Bill of Rights with police-state activities such as the so-called ‘patriot’ act and the institution of another big government entity named ‘homeland security?’
Why would Dreasky salute a thief who stole Jewish land and handed it over to deranged Arabs?
Why would Dreasky salute an occultist who participated in a satanic ritual inside a coffin on the campus of Yale?
Why would Dreasky salute a liar who calls the pagan god ‘allah,’ the same god as the God of the Bible?
I served with lots of guys like Dreasky in the military. They were loaded with gung-ho zeal but short on G2. They never questioned anything, no matter how absurd, that originated from lofty men who never did the fighting. That is not meant as an insult to a dead man, but simply the way I see it. I’m angry because, to me, Dreasky’s death was a waste.
And the operatives of the nwo know all about guys like Dreasky, even though in private, they disdain them. They know that there will always be an ample supply of guys like Dreasky. Multitudes of anonymous guys from dozens of nowhere small towns, big cities, slums, and ghettos, all desperate to escape the banality of their lives, or poverty, or to make their mark on the world and to make the hometown folks proud of them in the next parade.
Dreasky probably thought that his sacrifice was worth it, and since it was his life, he was certainly entitled to do with it as he pleased.
If Dreasky knew the Lord, he is with Him now. And now he knows the truth. I wonder what he would tell us now if only he could?

May GOD (the TRUE GOD – not some invention of the Devil as conjured up by Moohammad) bless you and your family, Sgt. Duane Dreasky. May you find peace and happiness in the bossom of our Lord. Thank you for your sacrifices, your courage, and your determination.
Rest assured that your sacrifices were not spent in vain.
Your spirit, and those of us who are with you, will prevail against the evil disguised as a false religion – Islam (the religion of the pedophile, false prophet; Mohammad – Bees Pee Upon Him. The prophet of murder, subjugation, and slavery).
Christianity has beaten back the demonic hordes of islam throughout the ages…and we will continue to do so. Let this be the absolute and FINAL Crusade against demonism and barbarism, cloaked in a false religion called; islam.
islam = the religion of 7th century savage murderers who’ve known nothing but brutal slaughter of men, women, and children, and who’ve contributed nothing to the advancement of mankind, to this day. 9/11 is a testament to their bloodthirsty lust for murder – how many “innocent” (innocent in the true sense of the word – not some conflicted/contorted meaning under islam) kids were murdered by islamists, and not a fucking peep from the so-called “moderate” muzlums. In fact, those “moderate” muzlums danced in the streets in the decadent muzlum world as the twin towers collapsed, killing thousands of people.
Grab a map, and everywhere you find muzlumz – you find conflict, death, mayhem, and destruction. islam – the invention of the pedophile prophet (Bees Pee Upon Him) – cannot live peaceably among its neighbors. The Qur’ an, a/k/a The Satanic Bible, dictates so.
If any one of you muzlums want me to quote from the Qur’ an about how evil, demonic, and violent it is, then just ask. I’D JUST LOVE TO POST FROM IT! I JUST LOVE EXPOSING YOUR FALSE PROPHET FOR THE DEMENTED MURDERER HE WAS!
You treat your women worse than dogs – as proscribed in the Qur’ an, by the illterate pedophile prophet, Moohammad.
Religion of peace – my ass!

joemccarthy is not just an ordinary moron…he’s a COMPLETE moron!
Staff Sgt. Duane Dreasky was in Iraq, joeasswipe wasn’t!
Staff Sgt. Duane Dreasky knew what he wanted to accomplish, joeasswipe doesn’t!
Staff Sgt. Duane Dreasky believed in what G.W. Bush wanted to accomplish, joeasswipe doesn’t.
For you to piss on his grave like you did is an abomination to all of the veterans who served this country.
HE was there – YOU weren’t!
HE knew what the stakes are – YOU don’t!
HE put his life on the line for us – YOU didn’t!
I think that his sacrifice means just a little more to our country and his family than your self-serving condemnation and self-satisfaction!

Thee_Bruno on July 28, 2006 at 10:27 pm

I realized that the sofa-setting generals and gung-ho stay-at-homes, would misinterpret my comments and resort to childish rants and name-calling, so I’ll now comment on your rants.
“joemccarthy is not just an ordinary moron…he’s a COMPLETE moron!”
Is name-calling the total extent to your intellect, Bruno?
“Staff Sgt. Duane Dreasky was in Iraq, joeasswipe wasn’t!”
That’s right, Bruno. I have no desire to further the aspirations of the globalists. If you want to aid them, there is a recruiting office in your town. I suggest you join up to show your enthusiasm for a war that was meant to be lost–just like in Vietnam.
“Staff Sgt. Duane Dreasky knew what he wanted to accomplish, joeasswipe doesn’t!”
And what was it that Dreasky ‘wanted to accomplish?’
“Staff Sgt. Duane Dreasky believed in what G.W. Bush wanted to accomplish, joeasswipe doesn’t.”
And exactly what does Bu$ch ‘want to accomplish’ in Iraq? Did you buy into the ‘democracy’ ruse Bruno? Tell us, what is Bu$ch trying to ‘accomplish’ in Iraq?
“For you to piss on his grave like you did is an abomination to all of the veterans who served this country.”
I served, did you? To question despots and their agendas, is now considered to be ‘pissing’ on the graves of dead soldiers? So, let me get this right. A free democracy should also consist of going along with traitors like Bu$ch and keeping our mouths’ shut? Is that what you think democracy should be?
“HE was there – YOU weren’t!”
As I said, I have no desire to further Bu$ch’s agenda. If you feel so strongly, go sign up.
“HE knew what the stakes are – YOU don’t!”
Oh but I do know what the stakes are! Putting one’s life on the line for Bu$ch & Co and their agenda DOES NOT EQUATE TO PATRIOTISM. This is where you’ve been duped.
“HE put his life on the line for us – YOU didn’t!”
‘For us?’ Are you insane? Iraq didn’t threaten me or my neighbors. Did Saddam threaten you and your neighbors? Bu$ch’s creepy old Daddy gave Saddam gas bombs and he used them on the Kurds. Did that threaten you? Israel had every right to bomb Saddam into dust for paying terrorist’ families $25K for killing Jews, but to go and die in Iraq for the globalists? I’ll pass.
“I think that his sacrifice means just a little more to our country and his family than your self-serving condemnation and self-satisfaction!”
I didn’t condemn him; I feel very sorry for his family and their loss. I stated that he was free to do with his life as he chose. He chose to go to Iraq and now he is dead.
You are the one who should be ashamed because guys like you do a lot of rah-rah, war chanting, to send OTHERS to die. (But you won’t sign up to go.) You cheer on others to go off and die–but you haven’t the discernment capabilities to question questionable wars by questionable men.
And then when people like me question this war and the rats who create them, all you can do is resort to attacking me and using profanity.
You haven’t developed the ability to see beyond what is fed to you and so what you cannot understand, you attack.
My desire would have been that Dreasky would have had an epiphany; saw through the ruse; and refused to fight an immoral war. Had he done so, he would be alive.
But to the dumbed down, like yourself, who confuse ‘patriotism’ with globalist agendas, you are precisely the type of go-along that the globalists depend upon to create and justify immoral wars.
Don’t ever awaken from your coma, Bruno. The globalists need guys like you.

To joemccarthy,
Dropenzee-dead, you uber-MORON, you!

Thee_Bruno on July 28, 2006 at 11:36 pm

To joemccarthy,
Oops, my German is a little rusty…I meant to say;
Droppen-see-dead, moron!

Thee_Bruno on July 28, 2006 at 11:41 pm

No Bruno, it is YOU, who functions as a moron because when challenged to think, you fold-up like a cheap accordion.
I do not know if that is due to the depleted gene pool from which you sprang forth from or due to the obvious failure of the educational system that stamped you out like a piece of smelly cheese.

joemccarthy on July 29, 2006 at 12:54 am

To joemccarthy,
Not a cheap accordion…you mean to say; a cheap camera. But, who’s keeping track, anyway?
Anyway, no, it’s not a depleted gene pool, nor the school system that I went through that made me this way. No, I’m this fucked-up because I constantly come into contact with the degenerate spawn of society, such as yourself, who constantly crave self-gratification, who constantly feel the need for self-recognition, who constantly crave the need for everybody to kiss your ass, and who’s constantly in everybody’s face telling them just how perfect the world is just by the mere fact that you live and breathe. You just can’t go through one day without telling everyone just what a wonderful person you are; everything that you accomplished; and everyting that you hope to accomplish. You know what? You sound a lot like Al Gore. You know Al Gore…he invented the Internet. And, the next thing you’ll tell me is that Bill Gates stole all of your ideas and that you’ll get even with him by cutting the brake lines on his car.
Now, I know I’ll never be as good as you because, not only did you serve with General George S. Patton in WWII, you also engineered D-Day, developed the nuclear bomb, AND you were the architect for Desert Storm – c’mon – don’t be shy, admit it!
Anyway, don’t let your distinguished military career stand in the way of pissing on the graves of all the brave soldiers who died fighting the very muzlum scum who would slit your throat, and the throats of your loved-ones (if you have any). Sit back, knock back a few, and wait until the savages are at your door ready to rape you and everyone in your household.
What an ¸ber moron. Definition: An ¸ber moron represents the pinnacle of pea-brain, the apex of asshole and the depth of dipshit. An ¸ber moron embodies the highest (or is that the lowest) level of stupid, home-grown, industrial strentgh, heavy duty idiocy.

Sgt. Duane Dreasky and Staff Sgt. Paul Ray Smith are always going to be the epitome of American Heros the rest of my life. True heros that gave all for our great country in my lifetime. My thoughts are with their families every, single day. They will always be proud of these great American men.

Yiddish Steel on July 29, 2006 at 1:40 am

Uncommon valor is a common virtue. Thanks SSGT.
Oh, Joe M., I have the answer to all your elementary questions:
“Why?”, you ask…because no matter what YOUR opinion is regarding your superior intelect, the SSGT. did what he did because he has Honor. Honor for something more important than personal “feelings” about his Commander in Cheif. Salute the rank, not the man. Salute the unattainable value placed upon the Office of the President of the United States of America.
If you served, great, thanks, hoorah.
Zeal isn’t a four letter word. Devotion isn’t a religion. Sacrifice is Peace.
Maybe a visit to the burn center at BAMC, or the TBI clinic at WRAMC would give you some “G-2”, and get you out of the motor pool for a bit…your drive-by insight is better used at the “S” shops.

Staff Sgt Duane J Dreasky and so many other great Americans lost. But the “Not What Can I Do
for America, but What Can I Do to Help the Enemies of America”, types live on. We had them
in Vietnam too. They caused America to lose in Vietnam and will do so in Iraq if we let them.

quepasa on July 29, 2006 at 9:53 pm

“Staff Sgt Duane J Dreasky and so many other great Americans lost.”
That’s right, over 2500 have now died for, let’s see, what was it again? Oh yes, it was those “WMD’s,” right, or was it to “Bring democracy to Iraq” or was it to “Free the Iraqi people from a brutal dictator?”
(This same dictator received WMD’s from Bu$ch’s pappy, remember, bright boys? Bu$chI had no problem selling Saddam WMD’s to gas the Iranians and the Kurds in the 1980’s, but I guess you forgot about that, eh? And since when did the Bu$chI-Baker cabal EVER care about anything but oil profits and their Jew-hating $audi friends? Democracy in the MidEast? I don’t think so. But you suckers, lap up every drop of propaganda because your heads are hard as rocks and you have no knowledge of history.)
You’re also hypocritical cowards; you cheer on the troops to go fight and die, but none of you join the fight that you support with such vigor. I wonder why?
“But the “Not What Can I Do
for America, but What Can I Do to Help the Enemies of America”, types live on.”
‘Help the enemies of America?’ The real enemies of America are in the hijacked federal government and among you clowns who support Bu$ch as he bankrupts America, attacks the Constitution, opens our borders to 30 million illegal aliens and fritters away the morale of our troops in a war that can never be won–nor was it ever meant to be won. But you girls, aren’t capable of understanding too many difficult concepts at one time.
“We had them in Vietnam too. They caused America to lose in Vietnam and will do so in Iraq if we let them.”
For a clown who goes by the name ‘Quepasa,’ you sure don’t know what’s happening now or then. OK, dummies, it’s time for summer school because you failed class and you’ve been put back a few grades for woeful ignorance. It appears that while ‘quepasa’ was sneaking over the border at Laredo, he missed school.
You obviously know absolutely nothing about Vietnam just as you know nothing about Iraq. Ever heard of the Pentagon Papers? Ever heard of the Gulf of Tonkin? Ever heard of Brown & Root? I suggest you educate yourself on those three topics before you jump into the deep waters where you can’t swim.
I realize that the perpetually ignorant reject knowledge, but should you have a brief moment of clarity, and commit yourself to some investigation, you’ll learn that it wasn’t the ‘hippies’ or the so-called ‘radicals’ who lost Vietnam. (Are you really that slow to think that a gaggle of long-haired hippies lost the war in Vietnam against the power and might of the Pentagon? Maybe you are.)
Vietnam was never meant to be won, but that might overload your circuits. If you want to escape the dark world of ignorance that you now thrash around in, I suggest you learn about the three topics I gave to you and how they related to Vietnam, and then–maybe–but I doubt it–you’ll come out of your long coma of ignorance.
Gee whiz, is there anyone on this forum with one iota of intelligence and an understanding of recent history?

joemccarthy on July 30, 2006 at 8:43 pm

SickBoy and quepasa got it right and I can’t really add much.
“joemccarthy”, no matter how much or how little of your so called facts really check out, Staff Sgt Duane J Dreasky was clearly a hero in mine and most peoples minds. He put his life on the line for what he believed was right. I don’t endorse everything Bush does, but if you can’t appreciate Dreasky’s honor and bravery then you have some kind of blind, irrational self hatred and nothing I say will convince you otherwise.
I, too, wished we had the perfect government with a perfect president who made perfect decisions in a perfect world. Till then, I’ll honor true heroes like Staff Sgt Duane J Dreasky and you can choose to live in your small world looking down on us poor, deluded souls.

The_Man on July 30, 2006 at 11:05 pm

“SickBoy and quepasa got it right and I can’t really add much.”
Really? Exactly ‘what’ are they ‘right’ about? They don’t even understand what happened at the Gulf of Tonkin or what was contained in the Pentagon Papers, yet they happen to be accurate about Bu$h’s Iraq war?
How many US Army Generals have to step forward and declare that our military cannot win in Iraq before you armchair generals and phony brave types will wake up? Our military was not designed to be an occupying police force. They are being fed into a grinding woodchopper and as if that isn’t enough, they face the very real possibility of being charged for ‘war crimes’ as the ‘Pendleton 8’ have been.
“joemccarthy”, no matter how much or how little of your so called facts really check out, Staff Sgt Duane J Dreasky was clearly a hero in mine and most peoples minds.”
Thanks for verifying your own disregard and disdain for historical facts. I realize it’s easier to believe lies than dig out the truth. I’m not denying that Sgt Dreasky was a courageous and brave individual who loved his country and who suffered great pain in his final months of life. I have little doubt that he was the epitome of a fine soldier. Are we clear on that?
My contention is that he died for an agenda that he probably didn’t even understand or comprehend.
Unlike you, I served in the Marines and I know the mindset of warriors. They give lttle thought to the ‘wider picture’ and frankly, aren’t even interested. They are trained to fight. Not to analyze. Period.
And that’s why the creepy little guys with pasty hands who fabricate wars are pleased with today’s typical soldier. They will do exactly what they are told and never question anything. Ever heard of My Lai?
“He put his life on the line for what he believed was right. I don’t endorse everything Bush does, but if you can’t appreciate Dreasky’s honor and bravery then you have some kind of blind, irrational self hatred and nothing I say will convince you otherwise.”
I think I addressed all of this earlier.
“I, too, wished we had the perfect government with a perfect president who made perfect decisions in a perfect world.”
Who said anything about perfection? I simply want a president who will obey the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. Bu$ch is a globalist selling out the nation by bankrupting it; wearing down our military in yet another immoral war; he’s opened the doors to 30 million illegal aliens; he’s endrunning the Bill of Rights with this patriot act; he forced Israel to hand over strategic land to the Arabs; etc, etc.
“Till then, I’ll honor true heroes like Staff Sgt Duane J Dreasky and you can choose to live in your small world looking down on us poor, deluded souls.”
Your so-called ‘honor’ is mostly hot air and very fake. All words no action. Send your next paycheck to Dreasky’s widow if you really care–until then, go sell the fake patriotism to someone else. Lots of clods talk the talk, but very few walk the walk.
As I said, if you really care about Dreasky, then make a real effort to prove it. Send them some of your own money–so much that it hurts you. What are you waiting for?

So JM, enlighten the mass on Quang Tri and Con Thein. Or were you “down range” with the wing? BnR yep, the ol’ Texas sub to Halliburton. And? They STILL have the best chow down range. Were the Lcpl’s and PFC’s engraved upon the wall “fools” too? Believe in the system, not it’s administration. Ya know, rumor has it ol’ LBJ died of lead poisoning out on his property…ol’ chickens coming home to roost.
Either way, this is the wrong thread to spout nauseating political rhetoric. Now pack yer trash, “Em-Nu” your eyelets, and go see the “Top” for inspection and Police call of the Quad. Don’t forget to pick-up your can of peaches off the pallet. Walk into “Betty’s Battalion” in San Antonio, “Swanyck’s” at Lejeune, “gator Gardens” on Coronado, 5 East at NNMC, Ward 57 at WRAMC, “traffic Light Lounge” in Benning.. or even stand outside Gate 5 at Little Creek, NOB Damneck, the Commissary aboard YPG et al etc, and “enlighten” the mass. In the words of the character “Flick”, in “Christmas Story”, “…I triple-dog dare you!”
Tell ya what, I’ll make a deal with you, go to BAMC and sign-in on the burn ward. Grab the Silvadene, or a roll of Stokinet, or Nubain or Demerol, or whatever they have…gown up, and apply it/them to those blind troopers, and “enlighten” them with your wisdom. Deal?
P.S. I know the VA doesn’t have the treatment facilities you’ll need after your “enlightening” visit.
It was good at Iwo Jima, and it’s good enough for me!

Well? I guess I’m a moron too but I just don’t blame Bush but all the political and business elite of the world. Staff Sgt. Duane Dreasky did what he was told and was killed for it. RIP. But one wonders when we’re on the verge of war, why is an American company in Iran? And
http://www.guardian.co.uk/korea/article/0,2763,952289,00.html
“Donald Rumsfeld, the US defence secretary, sat on the board of a company which three years ago sold two light water nuclear reactors to North Korea – a country he now regards as part of the “axis of evil” and which has been targeted for regime change by Washington because of its efforts to build nuclear weapons.
Mr Rumsfeld was a non-executive director of ABB, a European engineering giant based in Zurich, when it won a $200m (£125m) contract to provide the design and key components for the reactors. The current defence secretary sat on the board from 1990 to 2001, earning $190,000 a year. He left to join the Bush administration.”
And now North Korea is selling nuclear weapons to Al Qaeda? But I also blame Clinton, Bush Sr, Reagan and as gfar back as Nixon for building ties with China. God, we fight each other but the terrorists are just laughing

He tried his hardest until the day he died, he fought to survive his burns, burns he received protecting this country for me, my family, and all those I love.
Thank God for men with this much courage.
