I remember already being fascinated watching the later Apollo missions launch when I was a little boy of 5 or 6 and was so happy to see the excitement in my own 5 year old son and 3 year old daughter watching the Shuttle launch with me yesterday!
Long live NASA!

I am a big proponent of the Space Program but the Space Shuttle is a waste of money and should be an embarrassment to the American people.
We walked on the Moon 35 years ago and we are spending about 1 billion per launch to send a bus with wings into orbit for PR.
America should have moon bases and we should have been exploring Mars in the year 2006 not sending a 40 year old shuttle into orbit for PR stunts.
We should be mining Helium on the moon to solve the energy problems of Earth not sending an aging shuttle into low earth orbit.
Ask yourself why our government has scrapped the space program and settled for outdated shuttle that is dangerous and serves no purpose.What happened to the Spirit that once was the space program.
I AGREE WITH YOUR POINTS, BUT UNFORTUNATELY NASA IS NOT DOING THOSE THINGS. BETTER THIS THAN NOTHING. BUT YOU ARE RIGHT–WE SHOULD BE AGGRESSIVELY PURSUING THESE AIMS. WHAT TO DO TO CHANGE THAT? TOO BAD YOU ARE NOT RUNNING NASA.
