Alhamdillullah [Praise allah]: David Letterman & NBC Say “There is No Palestine”
Ha! No, this isn’t a joke. Both David Letterman and NBC have stated in signed federal court documents–signed by their attorneys–that there is no “Palestine.”
David Letterman & NBC Tell Bruno Star/Terrorist Ayman Abu Aita:
“Sorry, There is NO Palestine”
Oh, sure, this is in court documents to get out of a lawsuit filed by Ayman Abu Aita, the Palestinian terrorist, against Sacha Baron Cohen because of a scene in his “Bruno” movie. But who cares where they said it? The important thing is that they said it at all. In this case they said it in Ayman Abu Aita v. Sacha Noam Baron Cohen et al. Even better, NBC goes on to say, in its brief, “Palestine does not exist.” Hey, they said it. And I’ve posted the legal documents from both below (and noted how Letterman’s high-priced lawyers screwed up–he had two of them working on a brief two page filing, and they still got it wrong). I’ve also noted, below, how NBC was incorrect, unfortunately, about a few sad facts.
Aita is suing NBC Universal and Letterman, in addition to Cohen, because both showed that clip on their shows, when Cohen appeared to promote his movie. As you’ll recall, the suit was filed by Aita–the former high-ranking member of Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades terrorist group–because he felt he was embarrassed by the gay “Bruno” character and because he claims he was never a terrorist. Cohen interviewed him in the Ein El-Hilweh terrorist training . . . er, “Palestinian refugee” camp in Lebanon.
Aita claims he’s a citizen of the West Bank, Palestine. But there’s no such recognized country, and unless he files as an alien citizen of a recognized nation–like, say, ISRAEL (which he won’t do because he refuses to recognize it)–he has no standing to file the case under the laws he’s invoking in federal court, and the court doesn’t have jurisdiction to hear the suit. That’s the argument that Letterman and NBC are making, and it’s a valid one, which has been upheld in virtually every federal court, whether at the trial level or on appeal.
I wish Letterman and NBC had the guts to say on television what they’re saying on paper in order to get out of a lawsuit: THERE. IS. NO. PALESTINE. Check out the documents.
Here’s Letterman’s Motion, which his high-priced fancy lawyers got wrong, since motions filed in federal court generally must be accompanied by a brief in support of the motion. The title should have been “Motion and Brief in Support of . . . .” A federal judge could throw it out or force his fancy lawyers–who didn’t earn their gold with this faux pas–to refile it.
Here are the key portions of NBC Universal”s Brief in Support of its Motion (yes, the NBC lawyers got right what Letterman’s didn’t). Unfortunately, NBC is wrong about U.S. government documents not recognizing this fictional country of “Palestine,” as I’ve noted how the State of Illinois has done this with certain legal documents, unfortunately, and–as NBC’s lawyers point out–in violation of U.S. law, and I’ve also noted how the U.S. government has been revoking birth and death certificates with “Jerusalem, Israel” marked as place of birth or death, changing it to “Jerusalem” without a country. That, too, is, frankly, in violation of U.S. law. And NBC gets this right. (Please excuse my blue magic marker.)

Palestine has ALWAYS BEEN A REGION- Never a country. The West Bank – used to be part of Trans- Jordan; Gaza Strip, part of Egypt and the Golan Heights part of Lebanon. Isreal gained the land when THREE countries attacked it. It comes down to tha fact that Muslims in Israel don’t want to live under Jewish law. The could always move.
