Star Trek’s Scotty Beamed Up for Last Time

Looks like Scotty was beamed up for the last time. James Doohan, the actor who played “Scotty” on “Star Trek”–and was often asked to beam up Capt. Kirk, Mr. Spock, and others–was himself “beamed up” for the last time. Doohan died, today, at age 85. “Beam me up, Scotty!” has become a part of American culture. Current prisoner and former U.S. Congressman Jim Traficant was often heard on the floor of the floor of the House uttering “Beam me up, Mr. Speaker,” decrying the lack of intelligent life on this planet.

Not only was he Scotty, Chief Engineer and 3rd in command of the Enterprise, but he was a helluva guy in real life, too. He was at Juno Beach on D-Day, and got shot multiple times. Had his last kid when he was 80(!).
Trekko that I am, I feel more affected by this than by Gen. Westmoreland’s passing. I think I’m gonna throw in a Scotty episode to watch tonight, “Wolf in the Fold” (which also stars the recently deceased John Fiedler, voice of “Piglet” from Winnie the Pooh).
