I see nothing objectionable to Debbie’s article. Is it verboten to criticize anything done by any minority, background N015e? Is it wrong to expect that maybe the time spent using kids for political purposes while they are supposed to be in school might better be spent on basics?
I don’t find that unreasonable, especially in light of the fact that we spend the most, per capita, on education and get awful results? Especially since the rally is in support of people who have broken the law to come here?
I’m just one of the suckers who pays the bills for this nonsense, so why should my opinion count?

After growing up in the Montgomery County Public School System, from ’76 to ’88, and then living off and on in the D.C. Metro area throughout the ’90’s, I shake my head in disbelief. It was a fantastic experience back in those days. Many people, from a multitude of backgrounds and ethnicities. Kids from Iran, who were ripped out of school after the Shah died…never to return. Kids whose parents worked at any number of embassies. Military families. Korean’s who worked at N.I.H. Orthodox Jews, Catholics, Muslims, etc. El Salvadorians fleeing the war. Et al etc. …and guess what, barring the occasional fight after a soccer game, or rowdy Friday night post movie, there really weren’t any problems. Richard Montgomery High School was our cross town rival (Rockville High School), and was known to be a “tougher” school, and had the stereotypical demographics to prove it. Gradually a change began to overtake the area. A shift from First World Punk Rockers and the aforementioned, to Third World “seperate but equals”. …and it didn’t stop. A once disciplined school system, with a national reputation for its performance, began to “accomidate” those who were having a “hard time assymilating” into the schools. I guess a kind of “lower the standards, raise the average” mentallity. The curbs began to be filled with trash, much of the tax base left for Howard County or Pennsylvania or Virginia. This new scourge began in and around Silver Spring, and has networked throughout the “Red Line” Metro stops. Weighing the positive and negatives of living in the D.C. area, and Montgomery County in particular, …well…you couldn’t pay me to raise a family there now. Visiting now and again, I see places once manicured and neat, now overgrown and dying. Edifices once crisp and bright, even the old rustic ones, now crumbling and broken. It has become an example of what happens when refusal to assymilate into what was a true multi-cultural learning experience.
…and I bet the “Top” five schools aren’t in the “diverse” sections of the county, then again, maybe they are…it’s a NewsWeak article right? (..have a friend who left the ad section at Newsweek because he couldn’t take the D.C. “diversity” anymore either, and he is Armenian….)

Nothing verboten about criticizing minorities. But given the fact it was not relevant to the story, the insertion is gratuitous and speaks to the kind of race baiting that plagues this issue.
The fact she ASSUMES everyone at the march were all illegals is also highly objectionable. The march had 180,000 people, according to newspaper and radio reports. You telling me that 180,000 illegal immigrants showed up a few blocks from the White House and no one got deported? C’mon……
Finally, what IS objectionable and you ignore …. is that the kids were getting credit for community service, a part of all Montgomery County Middle School and High School requirements. Participation in civic life counts as credit. If Boy Scouts want to work on their merit badge for Citizenship they get credit for going to a Board of Education meeting, or a City Council meeting..why? Because citizens are exercising First Amendment Rights.
Well what the hell happened on the mall if not a massive exercise in First Amendment Rights?
Or is it “verboten” to speak out in support of “Auslanders” ?

You should go visit MC…. Rockville is undergoing a massive development. Silver Spring has undergone massive redevelopment. Go to http://www.zillow.com and punch in your old address. You will be stunned to see what your house is worth.
Montgomery County is one of the richest counties in America. The guy running for Governor as a Democrat, Doug Duncan, has a hell of a lot more to show than Ehrlich. And even more than his opponent for the Democratic nomination, the mayor of Baltimore. Crime is not a big problem in MC. When the beltway Snipers hit, they single handedly doubled the homicide rate for the entire county.
Montgomery County schools are doing better than Howard County, Fairfax County and Philadelphia so I don’t know what makes you think people are leaving MC for there. In fact, people commute to MC FROM Virginia, West Virginia and Pennsylvania because that’s where the jobs are.
Finally, I am going to assume that your poor spelling of “assimilate” and “accomodate” are meant to be funny and don’t show how poor a student you really were.

As a homeowner and taxpayer of Montgomery County MD I take offense to all of you ignorant, uninformed, dumbas*es who think that it is OK to spend MY tax dollars on services that are not performed. COMMUNITY SERVICE? It is just another excuse for politicians to pander to the retards that think that illegal immigration is anything but that, ILLEGAL! Children under the age of 18 are should not be protesting during school hours. Do it on weekends or after school. School administrators should be fired for this type of lax control of their students. Parents should be in an uproar that their children are out on the streets unsupervised and missing class. Reading, writing and arithmetic are all these kids should be learning. Not the wimpy, left wing crap we taxpayers have to put up with, especially from our loser elected officials like Doug Duncan. Just remember, November is coming up fast and there are going to be a lot of new faces on Capitol Hill in 2006 and 2008.

N015e and others: other blogs point out that their (and possibly Debbie’s) objection is less that credit was allowed for this, than that credit was and is NOT also allowed for going to other demonstrations/rallies, such as one at roughly the same time that supported distinguishing between legal immigration and illegal border-crossing.

Please, in your infinite wisdumb, which “race” do you speak of? Caucasoid, Mongoloid, or Negroid? The vast majority of those illegally entering are a mix of a multitude of different ethnicities and races. Those entering from the south, are those deemed “undesirable” by the Mexican government. As a result, these “undesirables”, for the most part, have a less than desirable education, and are easily manipulated into believing in propaganda {Trotsky/Marx/Stalin/Lenin} thus creating “mindless automatons”. Race has nothing to do with the matter. Ethno-Politics is being played, and those with a weak constitution fall victim to MSM diatribes (pronounced “tripe”). Using “race” is racist to begin with. It is clear that the hate-filled left and their corporate sponsors(who can always move elsewhere) are determined to destroy the US by flooding it with millions of uneducated (and largely low-IQ) peasants. If people such as these were the key to economic success then Mexico would be an economic powerhouse and millions of “gringos” would be desperate to enter Mexico.

SickBoy: First of all I don’t think stereotyping is a bad thing thing in all situations. Generally speaking Jews are smart and Blacks are strong, Italians are good at cooking etc. There’s nothing wrong with pointing that stuff out as long as you’re not disparaging about it. Now as far as race, Hispanics are not a race except in the old school sense of the word how both Winston Churchill and Charles Lindbergh (who did and said some dumb things but was a great American and NOT a Nazi) used the word. That sort of thing has mostly been out of favor since the end of World War II (well officially anyway, informally it’s still all over the place no matter how politically incorrect it is), but to people who still use that terminology a nationality or ethnicity could be a “race” or the three types of Latin Americans (I forget the what they’re called) could count as “races.”

When collaborating with the community (like Deb says: helping the poor, cleaning some old person’s home, feeding the invalid(I said that)) and corporal punishment were abolished, and both left and right in out government couldn’t care less if their idealism are abolished (like: neo-libs eliminating corporal punishment and Neo cons doing nothing ), then you realize that a new breed of thought spews out and our infighting on both sides of the political thinking are laughed upon by the Bush and Clintons. We fight and they open borders because of NAFTA and CAFTA. Next is SAFTA and finally American Union, a one world government, all while we fight amongst ourselves. Imagine little Iliyana the illegal or Polly the Polock illegally from Poland taking our benefits away? Will you stop it? Or will we keep spewing anger and hate to each other?

If one murders the past, and conceals its burial site, then the youth doesn’t even know it existed, therefore not knowing what to question and why. …and to think, most of my education was in a Montgomery County Publlic School system. You know, having just looked up the issue of race in Latin America, it brought me back to my interest in the Conquistadors. Basically, it’s all complicated now but it wasn’t so much in those days. The Spaniards were notorious for their mistreatment of the Indians, but they actually were much better to Blacks than other European nations. Once they were already bought as slaves they were not considered less than human, they were considered to be laborers and soldiers and in some cases even high-ranking officers. Also, Black women were treated with respect, they were more like mistresses than sexual property. I think if you’re gonna have a Black history month, Black contributions to Conquistador discoveries and to the Spanish influence on the New World should be celebrated. It’s a vicious myth that Black problems are neccessarily Brown problems or vice versa, just as much as it is ridiculous to lump “Hispanics” into the same category. This shouldn’t even be a racial issue, it should be an issue about treason in government and industry. But since the NAFTA traitors and multicultural Marxists have made it one, we might as well get a grasp on what a Hispanic racial issues are by going back to where it all began.
