Pe’er is certainly at fault, and has shown herself to be opportunist to the core.

Unfortunately though, as you said, there is no widespread publicity over this. This tennis event, like the previous year’s event, was designed to give publicity and credibility to Dubai, just like the 1936 Olympics was meant to give publicity and credibiity to Nazi Germany. Then too, the Western countries did not boycott or protest, and placed appeasement and commercial gains ahead of human rights.

So while I am not sympathetic to Pe’er, she and other Jewish athletes do not see many people or countries taking any kind of principled stand.

Unfortunately my comment posted before I completed it.

I also wanted to say that last year, some Jewish spokespeople urged boycotting Dubai because Pe’er was excluded. Once she was excluded these boycott threats evaporated. They were narrowly based over individual exclusions, rather than the whole anti-semitic policy of Dubai. Certainly Israel should have urged a boycott also. The whole issue should have been posed both last year and this year in more broadly-based terms.

So this shows that protests in 2009 by all concerned, including Jewish leaders, should have been more broadly based, and gone beyond the issue just of Pe’er’s exclusion, to the disgusting Judenrein character of Dubai, itself. I guess a lot of people forgot a lot of things, just a few years after the ports fiasco.

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (CNN) — For the first time, Malaysian authorities have caned three Muslim women under Islamic law for acts of adultery, the Malaysian national news agency Bernama said.

Home Minister Hishamuddin Hussein announced the canings Wednesday, saying the penalty was carried out February 9 at a women’s prison near Kuala Lumpur.

The canings — a punishment that persists across Malaysian society since the British colonial era of the 19th century — have been denounced by one Amnesty International official, who says “caning is tantamount to torture.”

But Hishamuddin said the punishment was carried out “to educate and make the offenders realize their mistakes and to return to the right path.”

“It is hoped that the issue will not be wrongly interpreted to the extent of tarnishing the sanctity of Islam,” he was quoted as saying. He also said the punishment did not cause any injury and that the women were remorseful and repented, Bernama reported.

The women were struck with a rattan cane. One woman was released Sunday after spending a month in prison, another will be released in the next few days, and the third will be released in June.

Malaysia, which considers itself a moderate Muslim country, has a dual-track justice system, in which Islamic courts operate alongside civil ones. Muslims make up about 60 percent of the country’s population of 28 million.

Last year, a woman was sentenced to caning under Islamic law for drinking alcohol in public — beer at a hotel bar — and that case caused an uproar in the country. Malaysia forbids alcohol consumption by Muslims, even those who are visiting the country.

The caning sentence of Kartika Sari Dewi Shukarno has been postponed while the issue is under review, and she said that if she were to be caned, she wanted the flogging to occur in public.

“Let’s be transparent about it,” said Kartika, a mother and part-time model. An Islamic court also fined her $1,400 for the act. She has pleaded guilty and paid the fine.

Lance Lattig, a researcher on Malaysia for the human rights group Amnesty International, told CNN that the vast majority of canings are applied to illegal immigrants by civil courts, but the latest examples indicate that sharia courts happen to be picking up on the practice.

“It’s not Muslims on the march,” he said. “It’s the tip of the iceberg of the bigger problem.”

No matter who does it, he says, the group considers caning to be “cruel, inhumane and degrading.”

Reminds me of black South African tennis player Mark Mathabane playing South African events during apartheid in the 1980s. Mathabane was denounced by black South Africans for doing so, and used the good will that he generated with the apartheid South African government for being their good PR token for graciously allowing him to play against whites in tennis to be allowed to leave the country for America, in the process leaving the rest of the South African blacks – including his own family – behind to face the horrors of apartheid while he himself received riches, fame and comfortable living in the U.S. as an advocate, activist and symbol of racial reconciliation, including but not limited to marrying a white woman. (Ironically, despite their clear hatred of blacks, the apartheid government REFUSED TO ALLOW BLACKS TO LEAVE THE COUNTRY.) Of course, Israel supported the South African government 100% during apartheid, and refused to participate in the international sanctions, even after the U.S. did so (and the U.S. ratified the sanctions against the wishes of Ronald Reagan and many other leading conservatives, Jew and Gentile).

So, it appears that the state of Israel has their own Mark Mathabane in the same sport. A key difference: where Pe’er could obviously escape this treatment by refusing to play in Dubai and Qatar, Mathabane and his peers had no choice. This treatment was imposed on them in their own country, who refused to even so much as allow them to leave (a bizarre stance typical of white supremacists). However, it should be noted that the Jewish government knew about apartheid and continued to support the apartheid system in South Africa right up until the day that it collapsed.

South Africa is just one of many vicious regimes that Israel has supported and continues to support in pursuit of its own political and economic interests. Folks should realize this whenever Schlussel decides to go on her rampages against people and organizations for their failure to be sufficiently Zionist. Israel always has and always will partner and work with whoever they choose in order to advance their own interests and Schlussel never complains about that. So, the loyalty that Schlussel demands towards Israel and Jews is a one way street: she does not demand that Israel and Jews reciprocate and divest themselves of other thugs (especially when those thugs aren’t Marxist or Muslim).
