Will Elton John Bow to Anti-Israel Pressure? Santana Gives in to Terrorists

By Debbie Schlussel

Sir Elton John is scheduled to perform a concert in Tel Aviv, Israel in June.  But the British Committee for Universities of Palestine (which sounds like a sanitized name for HAMAS Savages Auxiliary, London Falafel and Polygamy Hut Branch) is urging John to cancel his concert.  Per usual, it’s the same old far-left, self-hating Jewish suspects who signed the letter: Haim Bresheeth, Mike Cushman, Steven Rose, Jonathan Rosenhead–four college profs.

israeliflagwavingeltonjohn

It’s funny.  Supporters of those who would conduct the beheading execution of the gay Elton John (because he’s gay) in a heartbeat, are now telling him he should cancel his concert in the gay-friendliest country and city in the world.  So, it’s kinda funny–not to mention hypocritical–when this anti-Israel group cites John’s funding of AIDS research as some sort of reason not to play in Israel.  Um, Israel is at the forefront of AIDS (and cancer) research.  How much AIDS research do ya think they’re doing in Gaza City, Tul Qarem, or Ramallah, where being Elton John is punishable by death? The quartet of Israel haters writing the letter cite Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch reports against Israel, but conveniently forgot those groups’ reports against the Palestinians. Nice.

So far, to his credit, Elton John has ignored them, just like Madonna, Paul McCartney, and Phil Collins have (all three went on with performances in Israel, with Madonna wrapping the Israeli flag around herself and daughter Lourdes on-stage).  (John is quite independent, even coming out against gay marriage and California Proposition 8.)

But, FYI, Carlos Santana gave in to the demands of the Israel haters and canceled his Israeli concert.  No more Santana songs (or shoes–he has a line of high-fashion women’s shoes) for me, you spineless has-been.

Oh, and by the way if you want to send hate-mail to these four idiotic, anti-Israel Jewish professors (and add them to mailing lists for things like Viagra and Cialis, which they clearly need), you can contact them at bricup@bricup.org.uk.

Debbie, they are Jewish anti-Semites. Hatred of Jews is not a Gentile affliction anymore. Jews’ role in it threatens the well-being of Jews and the future of Israel. Anti-Semitism and calls to destroy Israel have acquired a measure of respectability. If Jews embrace them, its kosher for every one else to attack them, too. I wouldn’t describe it as self-hatred. That’s too kitsch. They hate Jews, period. The fact they happen to be Jews doesn’t change the fact they consort, aid and abet the worst Neo-Nazis, Holocaust Deniers and Islamists on the planet. We have met the enemy and he is us.

NormanF on February 10, 2010 at 2:18 pm

UPDATE: Masada2000 has published a comprehensive Internet database of 8,000 Jewish anti-Semites. Its really eye opening for those who think Jews can’t endanger other Jews and Israel:

    Jewish Anti-Semite Database

For the reasons I previously discussed, I do not think they are self-hating. They are a pathogen deadly to all that is good in the Jewish world. The existence of such sick souls illuminates how even the Jewish mind has been corrupted and debased by millenia of world Jew hatred. Not for nothing did the Prophet Isaiah warn that “your destroyers shall come from within your midst.”

The best defense against such ilk is education and exposure. That’s the service rendered here and all who love the Jewish people and support Israel should learn all they can about the Fifth Column within the House Of Israel so that G-d willing, one day it will be no more.

NormanF on February 11, 2010 at 12:19 am

I do not care for Elton John for a number of reasons, but if he stands up to such thinly veiled threats I would have respect for him.

Worry01 on February 10, 2010 at 2:38 pm

I wonder how Neal & Bob would handle this? (not Young & Dylan BTW).

#1 Vato on February 10, 2010 at 3:02 pm

I had respect for Carlos Santana, but now with this I have now lost respect for him.

At the end of the article on Santana that Debbie linked to contains the following:

<>

I will believe that this is merely a postponement when they announce a new date for Santana’s performance in Israel. I won’t hold my breath.

JeffE on February 10, 2010 at 3:03 pm

Ooops! Kneel & Bob that is.

#1 Vato on February 10, 2010 at 3:04 pm

Elton John donated a lot to the Wisconsin campaign to keep an amendment off the state constitution banning gay marriage.

and Debbie, why are you extolling Israel for being so pro-gay and yet you’re hellbent on keeping gays in an inferior position in the US?

You’re using gays to win brownie points for Israel (which it deserves) but you are against civil rights for gays here in the US (and allowing gays to serve openly in the military IS a civil rights issue).

B: I’m all for civil rights for gays and against persecuting them. But I’m not for gay marriage or open homosexuality in the military. There’s a difference. The military protects our country, and most soldiers don’t enjoy civil rights there, by design, including free speech rights. DS

Brad on February 10, 2010 at 3:04 pm

“You’re using gays to win brownie points for Israel (which it deserves) but you are against civil rights for gays here in the US (and allowing gays to serve openly in the military IS a civil rights issue).”

    -Brad

OK, dude, what do you have to say about Islam, and why haven’t you said anything about it here? Do you only care about rights when they affect gay people?

skzion on February 10, 2010 at 4:27 pm

Are you just a one note Charlie? Will you be prattling on about gay marriage on each thread, whether it is relevant or not to the subject at hand?

    Worry01 on February 10, 2010 at 5:26 pm

The comment ommitted is the following:

“Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Santana Management Michael Vrionis said in an official statement ‘We are sorry that our schedule has forced the postponement od certain dates previously schedlued.'”

JeffE on February 10, 2010 at 3:08 pm

    Correction: Should read: “…postponement of…”

JeffE on February 10, 2010 at 3:45 pm

As for Elton John, If he actually performs in Israel as scheduled, I will have new respect for him.

JeffE on February 10, 2010 at 3:11 pm

I’m not Jewish but I will FOREVER support Israel. It is the right thing to do and those who don’t see it that way are used to living in the Bizarro World.

Skunky on February 10, 2010 at 3:47 pm

Israel is the new Nazi Germany, he shouldn’t go to support the NAZIonists.

BigotBuster on February 10, 2010 at 3:47 pm

    To BigotBuster:

Yeah, that’s right… Just like good is the new evil, hot is the new cold, and black is the new white.

And that’s the trip to Orwellianism for today, ladies and gentlemen.

JeffE on February 10, 2010 at 3:54 pm

Do you prefer “Israel is the new apartheid South Africa” instead? I can use either one.

If you take offense to these hurtful but accurate portrayals of your bigot state, perhaps you should join forces with those committed to changing its policies.

BigotBuster on February 10, 2010 at 4:07 pm

Bigotbuster, you LIKE bigotry, as Muslims usually do. I hope we haven’t let you into the US.

skzion on February 10, 2010 at 4:29 pm

          zion:
The name “BigotBuster” means I’m against bigotry. Of course, first you’ll have to put away your IsraelFirster spectacles to read it correctly.

“I hope we haven’t let you into the US.”

-Zion…. you actually did, I slipped right under your large nose, and have refused to pledge allegiance to Israel. To make matters worse, I am employing a large number of zionists at very low wages. Your failure at not catching me is tragedy, really. If you are indeed working at the TSA as you seem to be, you should’ve been fired yesterday.

BigotBuster on February 10, 2010 at 5:08 pm

        see my 3:54 pm post.

I take offense at anyone who tells lies. That requires no further action my part.

JeffE on February 10, 2010 at 4:44 pm

my 4:44 post is directed at “BigotBuster”

JeffE on February 10, 2010 at 4:45 pm

Well, JeffE, what do you expect from someone who is either a Nazi or a Muslim (i.e, Nazi)?

skzion on February 10, 2010 at 5:29 pm

Oh, and in response to our friendly Nazi/Muslim, I’d add that I am quite critical of Israel, as I do not think it treats its Jews nearly as well as it should, and treats its Muslim Fifth Column far too well.

skzion on February 10, 2010 at 5:32 pm

Dear BigotBuster: How do you know skZion has a large nose?

Miranda Rose Smith on February 14, 2010 at 8:22 am

I find your username ironic. So You’re the BIGOT, BUSTER! You are either blind to radical Islam or you’re one of them!

Matthew on February 11, 2010 at 12:40 am

The “new apartheid South Africa” is a country that took in Ethiopeans and boat people (how many Ethiopeans live in YOUR neighborhood?), a country where Arabs vote, sit in the Knesset, attend universities, ride the same buses as Jews, eat in the same restaurants as Jews-AND WERE PERMITTED-NOBODY SUGGESTED STOPPING THEM-to ride the same buses as Jews and eat in the same restaurants as Jews, even during the nightmarish years of the second Intefada, when many Jews feared the Arabs were there to blow them up or shoot them, when Arabs went, unchallenged and unmolested, in and out of the library where I was working at the time, even as their fellow Arabs were slaughtering innocent, minding-their-own business-Jews (and not caring if they killed a few Arabs in the process,) where Arab patients in hospitals get the same treatment and sleep in the same wards as Jews, where Jewish doctors treat Arab patients and Arab doctors treat Jewish patients.
If you’re so bothered by apartheid, why arn’t you attacking the Arab states, all over the Middle East and North Africa, where Jews are not allowed to set foot?

Miranda Rose Smith on February 14, 2010 at 8:18 am

You might try thinking a bit before posting. That bit of invective is more stale than a week old brownie. As for being a hurtful remark, quite the contrary. It is more like watching a toddler having a tantrum and soiling themselves in the process.

    Worry01 on February 11, 2010 at 12:43 am

Ok, I’ve thought some more, as you suggested.

Why does a group of American hating Israel Firsters get their panties in knot over whether or not Elton John visits their country of Jesus-killers?

      you said it best:
“It is more like watching a toddler having a tantrum and soiling themselves in the process.”

BigotBuster on February 11, 2010 at 9:37 am

America-hating? You find one word against America on this blog.
Jesus-killers? There are very few Puerto Ricans in Hamas.

Miranda Rose Smith on February 14, 2010 at 9:06 am

If “the new Nazi Germany” is a country that has made more concessions in the (probably vain) hope of peace than any other country in history, that does its best to avoid killing civilians in wartime when it is constantly under attack from enemies that are committed to its
destruction and use civilains as human shields, that has a rambunctions free press and a vocal pacifist movement, where the Prime Minister is prosecuted if he commits a crime, you name me a country on the planet that ISN’T “the new Nazi Germany.”

Miranda Rose Smith on February 14, 2010 at 7:59 am

[Debbie – But, FYI, Carlos Santana gave in to the demands of the Israel haters and canceled his Israeli concert]

#@@##$$$!!!#$$$$ damn-it!!!! Now I have to boycott this guy, I USED to love his music.

As for Elton John, I have contracting feelings. I do not want anyone else to give in to Islam. However, I do not see why anyone can respect someone who has a song called “The Bitch Is Back”.

By the way, would someone please explain why those who support leftist positions (i.e. feminists, gay rights activists, etc.) provide aid and comfort to those (s Debbie points out) who would kill those who try to exercise those rights? That sounds like it should be a disease recognized in DSM.

I_AM_ME on February 10, 2010 at 3:48 pm

Debbie, I threw together an email, as you so kindly provided an email address. I apologize that it isn’t better, but I didn’t have much time.

——-

Title: What do you like about Islam?

I ask because, as Debbie Schlussel notes on her web site, you evidently want to promote it, in its most political form. Do you like the idea of murdering gay people? Do you like subjugating or killing Jews, Christians, Hindus, et al., if they do not convert to Islam? Do you know anything about Islam? Do you know anything about Judaism? Do you care at all about Western freedoms? Or are you just too cowardly to face enmity of Islam?

You “intellectuals” are a blight on both Judaism and intellectualism.

Sincerely,

sk

skzion on February 10, 2010 at 4:03 pm

So disappointed to hear about Santana. They were one of my favorite groups. Oh well, will now have to find something else to dance and work out to.

rebecca on February 10, 2010 at 4:03 pm

I hope others will also send emails. It’s good to let these clowns know that we are watching them.

skzion on February 10, 2010 at 4:04 pm

I’ll say it again. I am supporting Israel. It’s the right thing to do and those who don’t see it are disgusting Bizarro World dwellers!

Skunky on February 10, 2010 at 4:21 pm

OK, dude, what do you have to say about Islam, and why haven’t you said anything about it here? Do you only care about rights when they affect gay people?

skzion on February 10, 2010 at 4:27 pm

SKzion,

Want my opinion on Islam’s treatment of gays? Here you go: barbaric.

Why haven’t I said anything about it here? Because this blog post didn’t really have much to do with Islam. It’s about Israel’s pro-gay policies. Had it been about Muslims killing gays, I’d have commented on that (as I have on posts in other forums and face-to-face with Islam apologists).

I am FOR Israel, and AGAINST the Arab/Muslim world for (one of many reasons), Israel supports gays and Muslims murder them.

And I support Israel for its treatment of women, minorities, workers, the disabled, the global poor, etc. Muslim countries score low there on the tolerance meter.

That should answer your accusation that I only seem to care about gay rights.

Brad on February 10, 2010 at 4:59 pm

I just sent my email. Here’s what it says (I ommitted the title of Professors to them because I don’t think that they are worthy of it):

Dear Haim Bresheeth, Mike Cushman, Steven Rose, and Jonathan Rosenhead:

Re: OPEN LETTER TO ELTON JOHN

Text at http://www.debbieschlussel.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/02/eltonjohnisraelltr.pdf so that you know what I’m referring to.

As Debbie Schlussel points out in her post about the pressure to get Elton John to cancel his scheduled appearance in Israel, (http://www.debbieschlussel.com/17102/will-elton-john-bow-to-brit-palestinian-anti-israel-pressure-carlos-santana-bows-to-terrorists/comment-page-1/#comment-213496), “Israel is at the forefront of AIDS (and cancer) research. How much AIDS research do ya think they’re doing in Gaza City, Tul Qarem, or Ramallah, where being Elton John is punishable by death?” I would add that this is also true in the Arab countries as well as Iran. This means that if the Arab/Iran/Muslims get their way, not only would their for sure not be any cure of AIDS, but people like Elton John would be put to death for being openly gay. Therefore I ask:

Why do you want Elton John dead?

Sincerely,

(JeffE)

P.S. The same also pretty much applies to Jews, Christians, Hindus, athiests, and other non-Muslims like them/us.

JeffE on February 10, 2010 at 4:59 pm

That last question is a doozy.

skzion on February 10, 2010 at 7:37 pm

Also, I should have mentioned Elton John and provided a link. Glad you did so that those jerks know specifically what I am talking about.

But then, they spend their time Jew-hating and Islam-promoting, so I figure they got my general drift.

skzion on February 10, 2010 at 7:40 pm

        Hi skzion:

Re: 7:37 It is, isn’t it? I wanted to be provacative to get their attention and maybe make them feel bad. (Okay, that last might be wishful thinking.)

Re: 7:40 Thank you for your feedback. I think that you also did well in your email.

JeffE on February 10, 2010 at 8:26 pm

The Islamic/Muslim bigots who want to murder gays (along with anything else these little fascists disapprove of), and those Leftists who never met a terrorist or an Islamic bigot, antisemitic racist thug they didn’t love — the Left and the Islamists belong together. It’s a marriage of “like minds.” They think and behave alike. No difference.

There’s a new book out — documenting the history of antisemitism in Britain. Titled: “Trials of the Diaspora.” It should be an interesting read. And shame/a curse on those antisemitic Jews who are nothing more than traitors who endorse the views of the antisemites.

J.S. on February 10, 2010 at 5:19 pm

OK, Brad, fair enough. I wasn’t actually accusing you (yet). I was simply ascertaining whether you were as hypocritical as those you criticize. It is good to know that people like you are around.

The Terrorist's Advocate on February 10, 2010 at 6:08 pm

Santana’s mirroring his song. He just did a “soul sacrifice” & sold out to buffoon’s calling themselves professors.
He can go to Woodstock and perform for a half million stoner’s, but he can’t go to Israel? Go figure…

Who cares? on February 10, 2010 at 6:26 pm

contradiction: Santana loves Che, but Che hated Rock. I’ve never been a huge fan of his music anyway. I felt the same way about Cat Stevens

Noah David Simon on February 10, 2010 at 6:35 pm

In a way, it figures Santana would have caved on performing in Israel, because he’s been such a devout leftist anyway (not to mention being a devotee of Sri Chinmoy and calling himself “Devadip Carlos Santana” at one point). But the “spineless has-been” part is very much on the money.

Doubtless useless sidebar: This is the guy who, on his debut album, performed a Babatunde Olatunji song and on the label the tune in question was originally (and erroneously) credited to classical composer Aaron Copland.

ConcernedPatriot on February 10, 2010 at 8:16 pm

Who cares about Elton John, the guy is clown shoes wrapped in a t-shirt. Is it me or does he look like Joe Pesci playing David Ferry in JFK. Probably not enough Oliver Stone fans on this blog to debate the issue.

Jedi3129 on February 10, 2010 at 11:31 pm

Santana is a huge leftist. In the summer I was watching a televised San Francisco Giants baseball game and it was latin night, so the TV telecasters invited Carlos into the booth (as he was in attendance), for an inning. This guy could not keep his mouth shut without spewing left wing talking points at a baseball game, what an ass, the TV guys tried to change the subject.

Niner on February 10, 2010 at 11:51 pm

Elton-2 ~ Santana-0
I’m OK with Elton (and some of his music) I guess, at least he’s honest about who he is and doesn’t make it a huge issue, actually tries to avoid it, it seems.
Santana’s old music I loved but lately his recordings sound like he’s just playing along with a record, where he doesn’t fit in. Plus his guitar sound is too “perfect” now and lacking the emotion of his earlier works. From his interviews, I kinda’ figured he was a leftie many years ago.
I seriously wish entertainers would stop talking politics. Sing about anything you want but PLEASE DON’T TALK POLITICS!
They’re always wrong anyway. Look who supported Clinton and Obama. Seems even (gay muslim) Freddie Mercury knew better.

Wanting Sir Elton to stand up for those who would kill him for his sexual orientation is just too pathetic. ONLY a leftist idiot would propose it something as insane and idiotic.

martin fee on February 11, 2010 at 10:21 am

Hate to hear it about Carlos Santana, I have always loved his music. He does tend to get political at concerts, I saw him get boooed by the crowd in Atlanta once. I hope he reschedules his concert.

CJ on February 11, 2010 at 12:50 pm

I like almost all music. Elton John and Santana are favorites.

However, I don’t expect much from any of them in their personal and professional lives. What drives them to do or not do anything is beyond me.

We can only use our almighty dollar and not attend their concerts or buy their material to make a point straight to them, and spread the word as you are doing so others know.

Barbara (Xerraire) on February 11, 2010 at 3:57 pm

Santana is a sell out and a creep. These self hating professors are the first ones who will be shot if the Islamonazis win. Nobody likes the Fifth Column and the traitors.

I hope Elton John goes ahead and gives his concert in Israel because I like opportunities to respect and be grateful to and thank people. BUT, if he gives his concert in Israel on June 17th, “Candle in the Wind” will be all over the radio, for the next four months, and the only song I’m sicker of than “Candle in the Wind” is “I Shot the Sheriff.”

Freedom of speech is a good thing…shit happens all the time…we shouldn’t brand or label anybody for the choices that they make…we don’t have yesterday, but we have tomorrow…israel and palestine will hopefully work it all out one day…but both sides must come to the table again and again and continue to let go of the past…very, very important!!!

Debbie – you are very immature by mentioning to add those who disagree with the terrorism of zionism, to be added to a “cialis” news letter. Grow up! Elton John is a peace-lover and will boycott the upcoming concert in Israel. He is for peace. He is not for land-grabbing zionists, who are hell bent on destroying a ideology of Palestinian people for the desires of the terrorists, who call themselves a “democracy”.
Israel is in violation of over 100 U.N. sanction resolutions over their Internationally-recognized ILLEGAL occupation of Palestine.
Just because you are a jew debbie, you should have a better judgement of seeing an apartheid in the making, then to condone the human atrocities brought onto the Palestinian peoiple on their OWN LANDS. I hope God can forgive you and Israel.— we’ll see.
**please post this—if not, your just as guilty as the zionists themselves, who seek to crush and hinder the truths**

Santana is scheduled to play in Tel Aviv on July 30, 2016.

IMHO, I think Madonna sent a strong message to the music biz when she bought a condo in Tel Aviv.

The BDS people can say whatever they want. When it comes to rock-and-roll, BDS has a problem: Israel is the only viable market in the Middle East for popular music.
