BREAKING: Mega(hed) Indictment – Smiling “Just Fireworks” Terrorists Indicted

By
So much for the FBI warnings that University of Sami’s (Al-Arian) Friends a/k/a University of South Florida students –the Smiling Mugshot “Just Fireworks” Muslim terrorists–were not terrorists.
A Federal Grand Jury says they are, and indicted them:

Mohamed and Megahed: Smiling Terrorists Indicted

Two Egyptian students at the University of
South Florida who were arrested in South Carolina have been
indicted on federal charges for carrying explosives across states
lines.
One of the men also is charged with teaching the other how to
use the material for violent reasons.
Twenty-four-year-old Ahmed Abdellatif Sherif Mohamed faces terrorism charges for teaching and demonstrating how to use the explosives.

So, FBI, what say you? We already know what CAIR will say.
And by the way, while the FBI is now taking the credit, it really belongs to the Sheriffs Deputies in South Carolina, upon whom the FBI cast doubt. They were proven correct, and hopefully will be further vindicated with a conviction, which is another hurdle.
More here — they tested the explosives at a storage facility, it appears:

Two Egyptian students at the University of South Florida were indicted Friday for carrying explosive materials across states lines and one of them was charged with teaching the other how to use them for violent reasons.
Ahmed Abdellatif Sherif Mohamed, 24, an engineering graduate student and teaching assistant at the Tampa-based university, faces terrorism charges for teaching and demonstrating how to use the explosives.
He and Youssef Samir Megahed, 21, an engineering student, were stopped for speeding August 4 in Goose Creek, South Carolina, where they have been held on state charges.
The two men were stopped with pipe bombs in their car near a Navy base in South Carolina where enemy combatants have been held. They were held on state charges while the FBI continued to investigate whether there was a terrorism link.
Mohamed was charged with distributing information relating to explosives, destructive devices, and weapons of mass destruction, which is a terrorism-related statute, a Justice Department official said. The crime carries a maximum of 20 years in prison.
He and Megahed both face with charges of transporting explosives in interstate commerce without permits, which carries a 10-year prison penalty. Their defense attorney, Andy Savage, did not immediately return a call seeking comment.
The indictment was handed up in Tampa, Florida.
In South Carolina, where Mohamed and Megahed have been held in the Berkeley County jail, U.S. Attorney Reginald I. Lloyd praised state and federal authorities for cooperating in the four-week investigation that initially did not look like a terrorism case. [DS: The FBI deserves no praise. They deserve disdain for questioning the deputies’ case.]
“The arresting deputy’s vigilance and the immediate response of our local investigators and prosecutors are highly commendable,” Lloyd said in a statement.
Since the August 4 arrest, authorities sought to determine whether Mohamed and Megahed were fledgling terrorists or merely college students headed to the beach with devices made from fireworks they bought at Wal-Mart in their car, as they claimed. The local sheriff in South Carolina said the explosives were “other than fireworks.”
The charges follow several searches in Tampa, including of a storage facility and a park where the explosives might have been tested, authorities said.

Hopefully, the Justice Department doesn’t screw it up at trial, as it has a track record of doing at trial.
3-2-1. CAIR’s legal defense fund for these two starts now.

David Wayne Hull a Ku Klux Klan splinter group leader who taught another man how to use a pipe bomb at a white-supremacist gathering was resentenced to 10 years and 10 months in prison Tuesday. I would hope these two clowns get at least that.

CAIR still in hiding trying to figure out how to spin this now:
Egyptian students charged with carrying explosives across Florida state lines

“The Council on American-Islamic Relations, a Muslim advocacy group that has maintained the men were innocent, did not immediately return a phone call seeking comment.”

The indictments were handed up in Tampa, Fla. and they are being held in South Carolina. Why is that? I guess there is a reason for that. Is it because, that is thier home town? But, that does not make any sense to me either. Maybe I am thinking too much. Can someone explain?

zyzzyg on August 31, 2007 at 3:33 pm

I just want to make a point Ö again. The assertion that I’ve read over and over again is that, since they were stopped and arrested a few miles from a Navy base, that must have been their target.
What?
That’s dangerous speculation. The Navy base would have been a hard target. It is far more likely they had soft targets in mind. Soft targets are malls, schools, churches, county fairs, rock concerts, football games, buses.
If you believe the misbegotten notion that you’re safe just because there are no military installations near you or you don’t live in NYC or Washington DC, then, sorry, but you’re fooling yourself.
Stay awake out there, people.

undaunted on August 31, 2007 at 3:43 pm

A clear picture emerges: Once again, it’s local law enforcement, and the observations of ordinary citizens, going about their daily lives, that prevented a potential catastrophe. Make no mistake, it will be Americans just like these who will save western civilazation, if at all. If you’re relying on the FBI, the CIA, ICE or homeland security, you’ll end up facing Mecca 5Xday.

spiffo on August 31, 2007 at 4:55 pm

sorry: civilization

“Salam awee more exploitation from our one and only *wonderful* cough cough not, blog writer, Debbie. Big freakin deal, they had fireworks, anyone can buy them, in a dollar store any where these days Debbie.”
–this from a post to your blog from Muslim Man on the August 6th blog story.
Well–some things just don’t need any more comment…this is one of them. Keep on shining the light on these roaches DS.

BB on August 31, 2007 at 4:57 pm

I hope that the FBI’s initial comments on this case were just a ploy, or they didn’t want to let on that they were pursuing the investigation from the terrorism angle. Because if they really didn’t think there was a terror nexus, it is incredibly disturbing. Anytime nonimmigrant students from special interest countries like Egypt are caught with pipe bombs, major alarms shuold go off.
spiffo made a point that if the public is relying on FBI, ICE, et al. to do it all, we’re in trouble. As an ICE agent I can say that is true. The only way we protect this Homeland is together, and from information developed by citizens, justice-minded immigrants and local law eforcement.
There are about 30,000 Federal Special Agents in the U.S. Government for a country of 300 million. There are about 30,000 NYC police for a population of 8 million. By virtue of these numbers, you can see that the locals will always have a big role. Only by everyone pulling together will we be safe. I’m glad the locals did such a great job here.

It would be funny if we could put some of those innocent fireworks in their pockets and light them like we use to do as kids.

infidel1975 on August 31, 2007 at 10:21 pm

Chalk up another failed attempt to overthrow the infidel by their impotent, false, moon-god, called; allah.
Just look at the mugs of those savage barbarians in those photos…you can tell that they don’t have two brain cells to rub together. Not only that, they look like they are the spawn of family inbreeding.
The only dates they could get are either with;
A. Michael Vick’s dogs after being mauled to death,
B. With each other, or,
C. Being Yasser Arafat’s “catcher” as he pitches his love juice during an unbridled orgy with his harem of young boys.
These two muzlum throwbacks to the Dark Ages got caught with explosives, yet, they have no clue that they’re going to do some heavy time in prison – and what do they do? They smile as if they’re going on some fucking field trip. The only field trip they’re going on is the Hershey Highway, courtesy of the bruthas in the federal penitentiary.
These assholes are truly BRAIN-DEAD! But, after all, they have to be brain dead to belong to a death cult called; islam.
Gee, so far, allah is striking out BIG TIME!
allah failed to defeat the Crusades…just as allah can’t defeat Western technology today as we rout these savage bastards.
allah couldn’t get Richard Reid to blow up an airplane over the Atlantic. In fact, an Infidel WOMAN, overpowered allah’s soldier (Richard Reid)on that airplane! Gee, that allah sure am powerful…ain’t she?!
allah also couldn’t get her muzlum Albanian scumbags to ambush soldiers at Fort Dix.
allah also couldn’t get her black, disenfranchised muzlums to blow up Kennedy Airport.
allah also couldn’t get her muzlum barbarian to blow up Herald Square during the 2004 Republican convention in NYC.
allah also couldn’t get her muzlums Neanderthals to blow up the NYC tunnels and bridges.
Maybe allah should take a course in advanced science and technology at some American university, because allah has been getting her ass kicked for the last thousand years. Or, maybe, it’s just because allah is “on the rag” lately.
Gee, for such an almighty “god”, allah seems pretty fucking impotent, and such a pathetic panty waste! Why, just the other day, I urinated on 10 qur’ans, and then tore out the pages to wipe my dog’s ass…and I’m still walking around in the epitome of health! In fact, my blood pressure dropped to normal without taking any more medication!
It does seem strange, doesn’t it, that the only barbarians drawn to islam are convicted murderers, rapists, and thieves – and those who are striving to achieve those “lofty” goals. It says a lot about that fucking death cult, doesn’t it?
And, the best part is that muzlum woman actually allow themselves to be abused by muzlum men and islam itself…yet, they think nothing of it! They actually enjoy being treated like an animal. They think that being a human punching bag, having no rights, and waiting their turn to eat from the dog’s food bowl is just peachy-keen and will earn them a ticket to paradise….yet paradise for a muzlum woman is still yet undefined in the qur’ an! It’s only muzlum men who are promised eternal ejaculation (even if it is with young boys).
Some fucking religion of peace! It’s really a religion of murder…a religion for people who have a propensity to allow Satan to take over their lives.
Maybe some islamic caveman somewhere might want to ask allah why her adherents still live in the fucking Stone Age while the rest of the world lives in the 21st century. BUT, for a muzlum to ask such a question requires them to have at least two fucking brain cells to formulate at least an audible grunt.

Wait, there’s more:
Mohamed has an arrest record back in Egypt. Charges: terrorism.
Wait, there’s even more:
Mohamed was an expert at remote car bomb construction and detonation. So good was he that he authored an instructional video on the subject.

Hey, Johnyyyyyyyyyyyyyy, you should have what I’m having. It’s called having a “dose of reality”.
It’s YOU and your Neanderthal buddies who refuse to live in the real world. You seem to be an apologist for those who commit wanton murder in the name of a god that was the invention of a murderous thug.
What I posted may be mocking, harsh, critical, and irreverent, however, it is all based on FACT.

Thee_Bruno on September 1, 2007 at 7:42 am

Oh, God, I hope this one works.
Thee_Bruno, chill, I don’t know how you could have misunderstood what I meant. I’m in total agreement. You were preaching to the choir. It was a compliment. I was using a line from a movie, I forget the name.

John Cunningham on September 1, 2007 at 8:07 am

Thee_Bruno, it was that movie Meg Ryan and, you got me so rattled I can’t think straight, I can’t think of his name. It was the restaurant scene, she does a faking it routine and then there’s the change to the other customer. Does it make sense, now?

John Cunningham on September 1, 2007 at 8:13 am

“When Harry Met Sally”
In the crowded restauarant, the other customer, upon being asked to place her order said; “I’ll have what she’s having.”
Sorry, John, I didn’t get the initial connection with what you posted.
Thanks for the compliment.

Thee_Bruno on September 1, 2007 at 8:33 am

Very good.

John Cunningham on September 1, 2007 at 8:46 am

Just like with McViegh, a hard working, sharp eyed local or trooper does the initial stop.
But the rest of the story is the Feds (FBI ICE ATF) work with the state and local guys, who in turn rely on nieghborhood watch groups and observant citizens. (Like those that provided valuable information on these jihadis)
It is a total effort, and has to be if we want to defeat this terrorist threat.
zyzzyg- they are still in SC b/c of the State charges, the Federal charges were filed in FL probably b/c they have a greater connection to the terrorist activity in Tampa (although the final act was being caught in SC)

SO one of these POS have a terrorism record in Egypt.
HOW THE FUCK DID HE GET A STUDENT VISA?
We are giving billions of dollars in bribe money to these garbage pit third world mid eastern countries for cooperation and we are spending billions on our so called intelligence and law enforcement agencies.
Yet these assholes waltz right in.
Maybe its time to call in an air strike on some of the AMERICANS who are selling us out.

Just checking in to see if EVS has pissed all over himself yet? We are half way through the weekend and Finger can’t wait for the DSAC of New Orleans, aka commuter in Charge of driving and txt messaging, to reveal the ID of #11. The Nation waits for multi-tasking MORON to SPEAK. Dawg, WHERES THE BEEF?

FingerEleven on September 2, 2007 at 2:48 am

infidel! :”SO one of these POS have a terrorism record in Egypt.
HOW THE FUCK DID HE GET A STUDENT VISA?” …
Short answer:
Because the US Department of State is in charge of issuing visas.
Not a law enforcement agency, not an intelligence agency, but an agency that promotes the issuances of visas as a ‘diplomatic tool’ to engender good feelings and understanding.
They don’t want terrorists in the country, but don’t view it as their job to prevent it.

CallofDuty on September 2, 2007 at 7:51 am

Ever hear of a watch list? The DOS IS supposed to do a little due diligence before issuing visas.
The certainly do when it comes to making it difficult for Caucasians to obtain visas.
Problem is, the DOS is staffed with far too many political appointee summer help types and outright socialists.
They are more concerned with promoting the rainbow agenda than they are protecting America.

infidel! on September 2, 2007 at 12:00 pm

Infidel! – agree (in part).
Which is why the visa issuance process needs to change.
Every other country investigates or at least verifies the information provided to it. To see if the person is 1. telling the truth about being qualified for the visa and 2. Not a threat.
DOS issues a visa based on how an officer ‘feels’ about an applicant during an interview.
The DOS is “customer service” oriented, wanting nothing more than to efficiently get visas back to people to keep them ‘happy’. DOS punishes officers who refuse more people than average. Ambassadors compete for the lowest refusal rates.
We need to take a lesson from the rest of the world and start to base getting a US visa on verifiable facts. Also, in light of the terror threat-bring a law enforcement mentality to the visa question.

CallofDuty on September 2, 2007 at 1:16 pm

This is entirely country specific. Entirely. I have personally seen it in action in Eastern Europe. The DOS has been on a social engineering path for some time.
In several Middle eastern countries – Saudi is the most egregious – there is a completely different set of standards. The mission of the embassy – in part – is to promote the agenda of the White House. With this White House, the Saudis and other select Gulf States, receive unprecedented visa privileges. To the peril of America.
Are you aware that the Saudis still refuse to provide aircraft passenger lists on incoming flights? All with the compliance of our government.

infidel! on September 2, 2007 at 2:04 pm

Wow – the cops in the swamps of SC making the FBI look like Keystone Cops. This goes to show how important first line responders are. Kudos to these guys. The FBI was probably busy dealing with PR consultants and CAIR sponsored sensitivity trainers to make a real move on this issue. Again, political correctness needs to be thrown on the dustbin.

JasonBourne81 on September 2, 2007 at 5:34 pm

EVS,
Too bad you didn’t use the time you spent tracking down this guy tracking illegals instead. What is your job anyway? Maybe, Debbie is right, you ARE assigned to monitor her site. This simply proves her point that ICE is more worried about its image than doing its job. Nice waste of taxpayer dollars.

WillPower on September 2, 2007 at 9:01 pm

WillPower,
You obviously haven’t been following this very closely, or you’d know what my job is.
As a Deputy SAC, my time isn’t spent “tracking illegals”. Go back a few pages and you’ll see my entire job history.
Besides, this was childs-play, not real investigator work. I didn’t have to work at all to “out” this guy, he did it to himself.
All done on my own time too. Yeah, Debbie’s right. You couldn’t be more wrong, but you are entitled to your opinion.
EVS

How could you agree with what I write, yet say that my writing takes away from credibility?
BTW, you only wish that you were HALF the dick I am!
LOL!

Thee_Bruno on September 3, 2007 at 8:38 am

infidel!
I was not aware of that about Saudi – unfortunatly typical.
I think we agree, the visa system isn’t working, nor is it designed to protect America from terrorists entering the country.
Maybe Debbie will expose some of this in a column, so more people, not just you and I, are discussing it.

CallofDuty on September 3, 2007 at 10:22 am

“I’ve never seen a more fucked-up agency in my life,” the source says. “If I had a Tomahawk missile to fire up ICE’s ass, I’d do it.”
To find out more details on the legacy EVS left behind as Acting SAC/Phoenix read the following PhoenixNewTimes article. Of course his reward was a paid transfer to New Orleans. Yet he lives 100 miles West of New Orleans in his hometown and he commutes round trip daily while text messaging on his blackberry. Now doubt he takes time out to try and rat out those who dare call him out. Good luck with all that big fella. IF FingerEleven goes down, EVS is going down with him! BTW, thats a “mother in law bet”.

FingerEleven on September 3, 2007 at 3:55 pm

Long time reader, first time poster here.
FingerEleven, I will join the vocal minority on this blog and comment in support of my colleagues.
Your posts of late seem to be getting more and more acidic, hateful, and frenzied. EAP is just a phone call away. The personal attacks you launch against anyone, from what appear to be OI admin/support personnel (NotanAgent) all the way to senior field managers (EVS), is utterly spiteful and completely unbecoming someone who purports to be a Federal Agent of your caliber. Well, or maybe someone that is on some task force and claims STL stats all the time and does primarily seizure/arrest assist 151s.
You attack anyone who is positive regarding the talents of OI’s men and women criminal investigators and the work they are doing. Because of the perceived anonymity you enjoy here, you lob your insults and personal attacks at anyone you think holds views contrary to yours. Do you not see that the validity of your viewpoints are completely lost in your vitriol?
I have knowledge of some of the investigations EVS and other personnel have been part of under what was formerly the SAC/Mobile and now SAC/New Orleans, and it is the stuff screen plays are written about. The humility you would feel if you realized the depth, breadth, and scope of the cases they have done.
Do you not see that you are miserable and that you are probably making everyone around you miserable as well?
If you loathe this agency so much, as it sounds like you do, please leave. I know our real working agents know state and local guys/girls in their respective AORs who OI could hire, train, and use to fill your FTE with no problem whatsoever.
I’ll say this, the future of OI rests on the shoulders of the men and women in the field everyday who are taking great cases to their respective Offices of the United States Attorney.
It is these agents who are out working, juggling complex criminal investigations….hold on, let me explain that one; An investigation is a systematic method used to gather evidence of wrong doing and or of a violation of law for presentation to a District Attorney, United States Attorney, or Grand Jury….
Ok, now that we’ve gotten that out of the way, where was I? Oh yeah, it is these rank and file agents who are going to be the next GSs, ASACs, DSACs, so on and so forth.
I can speak from personal experience on this though, in my district/office, we work our asses off from the time we pull out of our driveways until we go 10-7, no one has a G-ride older than 2006 (a product, I believe, of our senior field management rewarding hard, quality work), no one is told that they can’t work any type of case/investigative discipline over which ICE/OI has oversight, and rarely, if ever, does any AUSA decline any case that we take them, that is worth taking them.
To quote someone who you have attacked on this blog, Ray Parmer, “ICE/OI is the sleeping giant.” ICE/OI enjoys arguably the broadest authorities of any 1811 in Federal Service. I’ll say this though, FBI needs ICE/OI more than ICE/OI needs FBI.
Yes, I’ll grant you, no job is perfect. I’ve had bad jobs, so I know a good job when I have one. However, you must realize that, like the days of USCS, being a USCS 1811 was a lifestyle, not a job. ICE/OI I hope, one day, will enjoy that same esprit de corps that I have heard so much about.
My friends on this job in other cities, in other SACdoms, believe the same.
I think I am the luckiest bastard I know to have this career. I don’t punch a time clock, I make my own hours, wear jeans and a t-shirt to work, I put criminals of all types in federal prison, and also have the authority to send them clear across the frickin’ planet!
Does that sound so bad? Oh, and I make roughly $95,000 per year, and I’m not yet 30.
So, Finger11, now that you’ve made baseless, absurd, and what appear to be bi-polar attacks on ICE/OI leadership at the HQ, SAC, and field office level, do you have any self pride whatsoever? I know I would do all I could to not interact with you or someone like you if you were in my port.
You seem like such a hateful person…Life is just too short to be like that.
Work safe, and see you again soon.
