Guess the Religion, “Fireworks” Edition; FBI Kolko Chorus: “No Ties to Terror”; UPDATE: Police Say “More Than Fireworks”, Men Charged

By
**** SCROLL DOWN FOR UPDATE ****
All weekend long (and today, too) readers have been sending me news of the two Florida-based, non-U.S. citizen, Muslim Arab college students, er . . . “Middle Eastern” men–Yousef Megahed and Ahmed Mohamed –who were detained in South Carolina for having explosives in their car. (I didn’t write about it previously, b/c I try to take the weekend off from blogging, especially lately.)
There has been almost no media coverage of this story except locally in South Carolina and on blogs. Wasn’t in any of the four papers I read this morning (Wall Street Journal, USA Today, Detroit Free Press, Detroit Newsistan).

Thank You, America, for Arresting Us. . . .

Soon We Will Urinate All Over Your “Justice” System, Stupid Infidels

Ahmed Abda Sherif Mohamed is a native of Kuwait and Yousef Samir Megahed is Egyptian. They were stopped, initially, for speeding on U.S. Highway 176 near Goose Creek, South Carolina. The highway was closed by authorities for seven hours thereafter. They were found in possession of incendiary and explosive devices, which they claimed were for fireworks (Memo to Muslim Terrorists: the Fourth of July was a month ago; get your stories and timing for attacks, straight). Is there a fireworks-and-hotdogs holiday on the Fourth of August I never knew about? What’s more, they are college students at the USF–the University of South Florida a/k/a the University of Sami’s (Terrorist Professor Al-Arian) Friends. Same school as not only Al-Arian, but also , the two Saudi students who boarded a schoolbus of children in Tampa as a dry run, last year.
Cue the usual FBI Richard Kolko refrain:

“There’s no (terrorism link) that we’ve identified at this point,” FBI spokesman Richard Kolko told Reuters. . . . “We don’t think there’s that much to it.”

We’re from the government, and we’re here to help you.
Why has there been virtually no media attention? Is it not a source of concern that authorities believed the explosives and the men dangerous enough that a whole highway was shut down? And why isn’t their religion being discussed or even mentioned? Oh, and why were the two Muslim suspects smiling in their mug shots? That one I can answer, with what they were likely thinking: “F— you, you stupid Americans, whose country we are using, roaming free, and studying at your universities. You idiots.”
So, were the men testing the system or were the explosives such that they could lie and claim they were for fireworks, when they really had a dual, more sinister purpose? It’s hardly “phobic” or bigoted to be suspicious of Muslims with explosives (who aren’t even citizens, not that that makes much of a difference). And I love how Muslims driving late at night, suspiciously, with explosives are the innocent, wrongfully-profiled ones. Hello . . .? Guess who else was stopped for speeding and then cleared to move on? Why, one of the 9/11 hijackers. But no biggie. No cause for concern.
Oh, and by the way, if they’re not terrorists, and the materials were just for the “Fourth of August-ly (lie?)” fireworks, then why are the men still being held in jail?:

No charges were filed in the case, but the men were being held Sunday evening at the Berkeley County detention center, WCIV-TV, the ABC network affiliate in Charleston, reported on its Web site.

**** UPDATE: Surprise, surprise. It wasn’t “just fireworks,” after all. The police now say they had far more than that, and they’ve been charged:

Two men arrested after police found a suspicious item in their car and detonated it were charged Monday with possession of an incendiary device, authorities said.
Ahmed Abda Sherif Mohamed, 24, and Yousef Samir Megahed, 21, were being held at the Berkeley County jail. A bail hearing was scheduled Monday afternoon, Sheriff Wayne DeWitt said.
“They admitted to having what they said were fireworks. Based on the officer’s judgment at hand, based on what he had seen, we judged it to be other than fireworks,” DeWitt said.
The sheriff refused to say what items authorities found in the car. He said some items were being analyzed by the FBI, which did not immediately return a telephone message seeking comment. . . .
Goose Creek is home to the Naval Weapons Station, which houses the U.S. Naval Consolidated Brig, a military prison where enemy combatants have been held.
The car was heading west, away from Goose Creek, when it was pulled over about 7 miles from the sprawling Navy facility, police said.

It’s always the local officials who have the guts the FBI doesn’t, when it comes to Muslim terror suspects.
So, which terrorist group do these two work for? What else did they find in the car? Just askin’. Stay tuned. I will.
The University of Sami’s Friends is having a press conference about this, today. More PC jibberjabber, I’m sure.
More from CNN:

The men arrested did not have ready explanations for materials found in the vehicle. That raised questions.

As it should have. “Fireworks,” indeed.

The news story has been under-reported. Thanks for putting the pieces together. News offers a piece here and a piece there. This is first place I was able to find the countries they are from.

There is a terrorism link..they’re both muslim.

“It’s always the local officials who have the guts the FBI doesn’t, when it comes to Muslim terror suspects.”
Great point. Curiously, what is also relevant is that no warrantless search was necessary to catch these guys. The military was not involved in their capture. And, they are over here, not over there, so we must be doing something wrong.
Finally, we are fighting them in Iraq so that we don’t have to fight them in Waziristan Pakistan – Osama Bint Laden

Islam and terrorism is synonymous. This is how they thank us for admitting them in this country with open arms. Are you satisfied now,Mr.Chertoff? These are the vernim that Bush and the ICE pundits wanted to grant anmesty to.

Men Charged With Having an Incendiary Device

The two Middle East-born men held in Berkeley County after explosive devices were found in their car have been charged with one count a piece of possession of an incendiary device. Police denied that the two were pulled over because they were of Arabian decent, stating that they acted suspiciously when pulled over for speeding on Hwy. 176 in Goose Creek.
Both now living in Tampa, Fla., Yousef Samir Megahed, 21, originally from Egypt, and Ahmed Abda Sherf Mohamed, 24, originally from Kuwait, were going at least 15 miles over the posted speed limit when pulled over, according to the Sheriffís Office. When approaching the vehicle, the officer noticed the men closing a laptop computer and stowing it on the backseat. Responses to questions about where the men were going and where they were coming from were erratic, leading the officer to ask if he could search the vehicle.
The men stated they had fireworks in the trunk and that sent off red flags. Officials did not have further details about the explosives in the car, but noted that they looked ìhomemade.î Lab tests on the are expected to be completed later today. The FBI has taken over the investigation.

It bugs me that the press and fbi have been late coming with their *facts*. Just proves to me you take whatever they say with a grain of salt..and we have to work harder as readers to piece things together with the help of bloggers, talk radio, Glenn Beck, and the like.
It is insulting to be told within an hour or two that this was not terrorism related, then to hear in the next sentence that they are still in their early stages of investigating. Hog wash..do the investigating then tell us the facts. It does more for your credibility FBI/Media tools!

Oh and Print press..listen up…if you ever wonder WHY your circulations are declining…when you don’t cover this stuff or you cover it sparsely with sparse facts leaving your reader to still have to work elsewhere to get the info, you won’t have people buying your product.
Business 101 course is available at any college..take it.

As I reported elsewhere, in my local newspaper today this story, buried inconspicuously and recounted with extreme brevity, described these Muslims as “men.” The religion and ethnicities of these individuals were nowhere mentioned. Unfortunately, such omissions where Muslim suspects are involved are far too prevalent in the mainstream media. If one had not read or heard about this event from other sources, its significance and gravity could not have been discerned.

We know there are FBI agents who don’t report directly to CAIR, and we know they and local law enforcement will let us know what’s going on.
Here’s how I suspect things would go w/out blogosphere on the case:
Suspects: They’re fireworks
Suspects: We’re on vacation
CAIR, WaPo, Newsweek, NYT: Islamophobia!
FBI: ok, free to go. Thanks for your cooperation.
Have a nice day. Sorry for the inconvenience.

sonomaca on August 6, 2007 at 7:06 pm

We need a law that says if it is initially announced that n arrest is not terror related, the government may not thereafter charge terror.

Walter E. Wallis on August 6, 2007 at 8:22 pm

The press coverage I saw was on CNN (and CNN only) consisting of a CAIR spokesperson questioning why these men were being held.
It was quite a good laugh!
Behind the spokesman was a logo that read “Muslims Care”. Care about what? Killing infidels?
The spokesman emphasized that Yousef was a “quiet” engineering student. While Ahmed was a teaching assistant at USF which showed how “responsible” he was.
It was very educational, if also alarming, to see how smoothly he made this incident seem harmless.
CAIR people are incredible liars!

WillPower on August 6, 2007 at 9:17 pm

I don’t see the problem here. I cruise around with explosives in my car every day. Nothing to see here so just move on along.
As far as CAIR, asking them to make an objective comment is like asking the KKK to offer up viewpoints on race-relations.

I don’t think Glenn Beck is going to help piece much together when it comes to Islam. He seems very naive to me and likes to talk about “political islam” as distinct from some other islam. It’s very concerning – I would watch him when I got the chance and was happy to see him showing the muslim terror videos. Now he seems to be determined to prove that muz are peaceful. He has befriended Al Sharpton of all people and I am not getting the sense that he is really a conservative. I also saw him discussing “seeds of peace” and saying, “now why can’t we do that here….” as in why can’t we all get along.

CarpeDiem on August 6, 2007 at 9:45 pm

“But, officer, we some wild and crazy guys”. “Yea, but you’re not from Czechoslovakia, out of the car”.

John Cunningham on August 6, 2007 at 10:43 pm

Debbie, all of South Florida has become ground zero for Muslim terrorists, and the universities are the regional HQ’s. USF is a well known hell hole, but FAU on my coast also has a well documented plague. I know a secular Muslim guy there who told me about some scary colleagues who he feels are dangerous and who intimidate him.

As a person who actually lived in an islamofascist country, then moved to lebanon, before it got destroyed by the religion-of-peace, before I came back to the US of A, I can’t express my happiness enough in seeing people who post here and on many other “aware” blogs.
Thank GOD that some of us are not adopting the fetal position in wait for dhimmitude. Let’s send these desert bedouins to the desert, where they belong!!
Remember one thing: When you strip them of all the money they make from oil and all the technical know0how that we so willingly share, they are nothing but dirty, brown-undershirt-wearing desert bedouins!!!!
Keep up the good fight, and keep your ears and eyes open. America has enough values to put these dirty ba____ds to shame.

Salam awee more exploitation from our one and only *wonderful* cough cough not, blog writer, Debbie. Big freakin deal, they had fireworks, anyone can buy them, in a dollar store any where these days Debbie. How about the women and thousands every fourth of July that play with fireworks and get their heads blown off or sent to the hospital because of a firework incident. Do we care about our children and firework safety? No I dont think you do, but you care about a couple guys that have fireworks of course. Oh and the cops and FBI always say after they search the car more that there is more than fireworks. Bull crap, its more ways to hit the religion of Islam down. Since you know America is at war with Muslims, but Christians can still rape children, be drug addicts and be drunk drivers. Get some sense seriously, Alcohol is a drug but theres no serious push for legislation to get those people off the streets or to even ban alcohol. Oh thats right, its so fun, and it sets the mind free. Might as well smoke some Marijuana with it to and take some Vicoden ES with it right? Seriously grow up, leave Islam alone, because you people have no room to talk, because this world is filled with all bad people, and people do make mistakes, you just cant admit that for the Jewish and Christians though. Your the ones being Terrorists to this United States.

Muslim man on August 7, 2007 at 2:03 am

Nice try moe slum man, no one’s buying your shit. Now, wipe your mouth. CAIR is ‘xplainin’ this as left over fireworks from a Fourth of July celebration. Yea, right. Moe slums celebrating the birthday of America? Your rant on moral equivalency is totally lost on us Americans and we’re watching your every move. Rant on, beyatch.

John Cunningham on August 7, 2007 at 7:42 am

And one more thing, when I drove the taxi I always found the drunks to be the bigger tippers and if I had to help them to the door the tip was even greater. A tip from a moe slum? Not on your life. One dollar and ninety cent fare, handed a twenty and you give back eighteen dollars and ten cents. Moe slums, especially jailhouse moe slums ain’t no fun. Dumb, dull, boring 4th century savages. We’ve known this ever since President Jefferson read the koranimal koloring book and his immediate response was to send the Marines to the Shores of Tripoli. We’ve been on to you for a couple of hundred years. You’re not getting away with anything.

John Cunningham on August 7, 2007 at 7:55 am

I know I’m late to the party on this one but, it’s just another in a long line of examples. Our national law enforcement continues to suck on the streets of America. Their intelligence gathering however, has in fact saved many lives. I recommend we free up all of our local “Maricopa County Sheriffs” to do what they do best. Mislim Man, your days are numbered. So is CAIR’s. You heaps of camel dung have yet to see the giant awakened. When it does, you will CONVERT (leave immediately) or you will cease to exist.

It seems to me that the police should not have blown up the only evidence of what the maybe-fireworks were. That said, I would try to avoid speeding near a military base in South Carolina while carrying homemade model rocket engines (http://www.jamesyawn.com/rcandy/index.htm), especially if I were “suspiciously brown” or Muslim.
