Good News: Obama, Salazar Make It Even Tougher to Drill for U.S. Oil

By Debbie Schlussel

The price of a gallon of gas will ultimately inch up again toward $3.00 and perhaps $4.00.  And, frankly, the prices now (I paid $2.63 a gallon when I last filled up) are far too high.  That’s not to mention–for the gazillionth time–that oil finances the Saudis, the Ahmadinejads, and the Hugo Chavezes of the world.

That Was Then . . .

Barack Obama & Ken Salazar: “Let Them Drive Cake”

So, what do Barack Obama and his minions do?  They make it tougher to drill for oil in the U.S. on federal lands.  Yup, exactly what we need in a horrible economy and a world of oil-financed America-hating nations.

Interior Secretary Ken Salazar is expected to announce Wednesday that his agency will require oil and natural-gas companies to clear more regulatory hurdles before they are allowed to drill on federal lands.

Mr. Salazar’s action is likely to make it more difficult for the U.S. Bureau of Land Management to fast-track the permitting of oil and gas projects on federal land. BLM field staffers would be required to seek additional approvals from their supervisors and to undertake more visits to areas where energy companies are seeking access, according to people familiar with the matter.

The BLM manages more than 260 million acres of federal land, and with it, a significant chunk of U.S. energy supplies. Domestic production from federal onshore oil and gas wells accounts for 11% of U.S. natural-gas supplies and 5% of the nation’s oil.

The Obama administration is already locked in a bitter fight with the oil and gas industry over proposals to raise billions of dollars in additional taxes from energy companies, and to cap the emissions of gases caused by burning fossil fuels, which have been linked to global warming. . . .

Business groups fear the administration’s action will discourage domestic energy development, by adding new red tape to the permitting process for oil and gas drilling. In a letter to Mr. Salazar last week, the Industrial Energy Consumers of America, a lobbying group that represents manufacturers, credited the 2005 law with reducing drilling-permit backlogs and boosting natural-gas production.

I don’t “fear” this will discourage domestic energy development. I know it will.

When gas goes up to $3.00 and $4.00 a gallon, again–and, like I said, it will–you can lay the blame squarely on Barack Hussein Obama.  Salazar would not be doing this without his blessing. And after all, Obama is the ultimate boss. This is his work–his policy.  Hey, like Bush and Clinton before him, he’s got a Gulf state-financed Presidential library to build.  But at least Bush tried to fast-track drilling on federal lands, the same drilling Obama is now trying his best to slow down.

The fish rots from the head down. And right now, it’s pretty stinky all over.

In the last generation this would have been considered criminal malfeasance. Regardless of what these pantywaists do, the Chinese, Indians, Brazilians, Russians, Venezuelans…. will all be drilling as fast as they can. Ironically in the case of the Chinese and Russians, they will be doing it in our own back yard.

States need to sieze these lands and give the Feds the bums rush.

We just need to import more oil from Ahmedinejad, Chavez and the Saudis. And eliminate good-paying American jobs and tax revenue. After all, Obama knows best!

The silver lining in this decision is that it will prolong the American depression. On the generic Congressional ballot, the GOP has already opened up a ten point lead. I hope Obama keeps on digging!

Obama and his Marxist comrades don’t really care, they are looking at the big picture. Like pack dogs, they nip and bite a little here and a little there, eventually their prey succumbs to the wounds. This is a well tested MO.

Constitutional reform is absolutely necessary to hamstring the central government. The Founders foresaw this possible outcome when statists get in power.

We are dealing with someone who truly adores OPEC. I wonder if Mr. Obama is already calculating his post-presidential speaking fees as well as the library that debbie mentioned.

Also, Ken Salazar’s outfit is absurd in that photograph. Was he going to try out for a McCloud remake?

Where’s Gay Edgar Hoover when you need him.

seahawker on January 6, 2010 at 4:26 pm

You need to also look at our oil reserves off shore. Our politicians are letting China and Mexico steal our oil.

And then there is the domestic use of big bad coal that gets these green weenies panties in a bunch. These dolts cannot comprehend that to charge up an electric car, you are burning coal to produce that electricity. More than half of our electricity in the U.S. comes from coal. Duh. When will Odopey go after coal as well and over regulate its use?

Jarhead on January 6, 2010 at 4:29 pm

Not to mention the brilliant moves that opened off-shore drilling at the 50 mile mark off the eastern seaboard (the oil is actually closer to 25 miles)and other such stupidities. Personally, I believe that Bush’s attempt to open up more drilling on federal lands was nothing more than a smoke screen or a red herring. His family’s fortune came from sources, some of which caused his grandfather to be nearly tried for treason during WWII.

Foreign oil is one of the main foundations of the bush fortune since then. You can see how powerful such commodities are when you remember that most or all of the 9/11 killers were from the Saudi kingdom–the obscenely oil rich Saudi kingdom–and that even though the Soudi king’s own people were the murderers, Bush continued to kiss Arab booty. Remember, too, Obama’s kissing the king’s holy ground?

And with a Muslim in the chief seat in the White House, nothing has really changed resulting in Debbie’s report.

A very powerful European banker once said that it made no difference to him who the leadership of a country was. As long as he, the banker, wielded the power over the country’s economy and money, he controlled the country.

The Foreign National who resides in the White House knows this very well. He and his minions understand that once they control our personal finance, our businesses, and education, etc., they will have all power and control over this nation. And he and his minions are accomplishing their goals one step at a time.

And with the big “O” sharing pockets with Bernanke, a Bush man all the way, our government is quickly disappearing. It will be The Government that rules over us.

We will not survive for very long if we continue to let this foreign power in Washington continue this destructive path to our economic demise.

When will we begin hearing the equivalent of Marie’s words coming from the White House, quote, “Let them eat cake.”

LET (far) LEFTIES EAT LEAD

Marie Antoinette apparently never said “Let them eat cake.”

That was probably how the Lefties of her day slandered her in order to justify murdering her. (some things never change)

So this is Bush’s fault?

I should have guessed.

Protecting our lands from the oil companies is not an inherently bad thing. Oil company ethics leave a lot to be desired.

paul on January 6, 2010 at 5:02 pm

Yes, oil companies are evil, so let’s import more foreign oil so we become more dependent upon countries that really love us, such as Venezuela, Mexico, and Saudi Arabia. Yes, no no to nuclear power, coal, oil, natural gas or anything else we could domestically, but yes to paying foreigners for it.

    Worry01 on January 6, 2010 at 5:15 pm

Lest we not forget during the primaries, Obama stated quite clearly during his hope and change tour that he felt as Americans we shouldn’t be allowed to drive SUV’s and eat all the food we wanted cause other countries could not. He stated that if he had his way We Americans should be paying 5.00 a gallon for gas and he would do that by slowly increasing the price over a period of time.
At least this is ONE promise he intends to keep.

perception of truth on January 6, 2010 at 5:04 pm

This is the only reason why I would like to see Palin be president. She wants more oil development. Of course, McCain was clueless in this regard, calling the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge “the Grand Canyon of the North.” More like “Grand Mudhole of the North.” What a clueless fool that old man can be.

Fleiter on January 6, 2010 at 5:08 pm

The Dems govern as thought they don’t care how we vote come November. That makes me afraid.

Al in St. Lou on January 6, 2010 at 5:35 pm

I meant “as though” of course!

Al in St. Lou on January 6, 2010 at 5:37 pm

And of course there will be the effect on the economy overall. Higher gas prices will stop any ‘recovery’ right in its tracks (and I know that we’re not really having a recovery now; it is just state-run media hype). Just like Roosevelt; do everything possible to prolong the economic downturn, grind the people down & make them suffer.

Little Al on January 6, 2010 at 5:58 pm

Jarhead writes, “You need to also look at our oil reserves off shore. Our politicians are letting China and Mexico steal our oil.” So true. There’s an offshore oil deposit between the Florida Keys and Cuba, accessible from within US waters. The Cubans are already assigning leases. We won’t exploit it; but they will. So they’ll be drawing off *our* resources.

And here’s yet another “Are they kidding?” report: Apparently the US is providing a $2 Billion loan to a firm linked to George Soros to drill for oil … off the Brazilian coast.

Raymond in DC on January 6, 2010 at 6:21 pm

In western Colorado, eastern Utah encompassing most of the Colorado Basin …

1.5 trillion barrels of recoverable oil

41 trillion cubic feet of natural gas, and …

11 – 23 billion tons of coal.

And we’re dependent on foreign sourcing?

jack mackenzie on January 6, 2010 at 7:10 pm

The congress has been declaring all kinds of drilling on US lands off limits for a long time. This results in importing foreign oil which is partly owned by the Rockefeller family trusts. Who do you think discovered the oil in the middle east before they were “nationalized”. They are in league with OPEC to keep oil prices high.

The fact of the matter is if we opened up all the American sites where oil has been discovered and allowed it to be drilled, oil prices would plummet. Some say it would result in $8.00 a barrel oil. Seismographic testing has indicated that there is as much crude oil on the North Slope of Alaska as in Saudi Arabia.

Before Rockefeller consolidated(merged)Atlantic Richfield (Arco) they had planned to build two more pipelines in Alaska. One for crude oil and one for natural gas. Our own Congress stopped these projects to keep crude oil and natural gas prices high.

Sarah Palin took these same people to the supreme court over the natural gas pipeline she was instrumental in getting built.(one of the few things I agree with her on).

Bottom line is our own Government is bought and paid for. They have sold America out for higher energy costs.

ScottyDog on January 6, 2010 at 9:48 pm

We need to do more to get off oil and onto other sources anyway. I am not an environmentalist, chiefly because environmentalism is nothing but neo-paganism/animism, right down to their pagan/animist love for human sacrifice (other than communists and fascists, you won’t find bigger supporters of abortion or of starving people to death than environmentalists). However, the “drill baby drill” nonsense is just reactionary (in the true sense of the word) politics. Conservatives support drilling only because the environmentalists, anti-capitalists and other liberals oppose it, which not only is a horrible way of doing policy, but it allows the other side to set the agenda.

And no, there is no “free market” way of making alternative energy sources, just like the “free market” didn’t do the Manhattan project, invent the computer or the Internet, create the interstate highway system, bring electricity and telephone service to rural areas, or eradicate polio and a bunch of other diseases with a uniform vaccination program. (You’d be shocked at just how few true innovations and breakthroughs have been accomplished by corporate America … what corporate America usually does is take something developed for government purposes and make it a commercial product.)

Now, I don’t hate the oil companies or anything. However, let’s face it: their business is oil. So long as they are making tons of money off oil – and they are and always will – there is no reason to do anything else. They have no “responsibility” to do anything else either, plus there is no evidence that they’d even be any good at developing and marketing anything other than oil products because they lack the expertise.

And no other form of energy is going to be commercially viable because they can’t compete with the oil companies. Look, if you were an investment fund manager, would you put your clients’ retirement money into oil companies or solar panel companies? You’d have a professional and moral obligation to choose the oil companies (not to mention the need to keep your own job).

If the “free market conservatives” had been in power in the 40s and 50s, the Soviet Union would have won the Cold War before Ronald Reagan would have ever had the chance to be president. That is something that the “if you don’t support fossil fuels and fossil fuel alone you are a enviro-commie!” crowd won’t face.

Gerald on January 6, 2010 at 10:48 pm

So, you are advocating a war time economy? That only works during national emergencies and for short periods. In addition, much of the male adult workforce was conscripted ito the military, so unemployment would be low. Due to rationing and other restrictions, even if you had money you had little to spend it on. Food, clothing, consumer goods, travel, and pay were either heavily regulated or rationed. It was not a good time. Also, the free market was in force after World War II. You really need to get your history up to snuff there. Also, many of your so called government achievements were accomplished through contracts given by the government to the private sector. To cite one example, where do you think our aircraft, tanks, and jeeps came from? Can you say Boeing, etc. for aircraft? Do you think Ford made a few tanks? And we could go on.

What you are proposing is a Neo-Fascist Economy, or an autarkic economic order. That did not work for Hitler, Mussolini, or Peron. All major economic decisions were politically driven, and massive inefficiencies developed as a result in each of those economies. In the case of Hitler especially, I am glad that he chose such a model for The Third Reich. It was good at mass production, but stunted the development of more advanced technologies that would have been devastating to his opponents, such as jet aircraft, intermediate range ballistic missiles, and even improved automatic weapons. These advances came to late to make a difference, and that was due to the bias of a very statist economic system for output over quality.

Salazar helped screw over California farmers this year to protect some little minnow fish. Diverting mountain water to the ocean. What a bastard. He won’t lift a finger to help out struggling families when gas prices go up.

THE LUBAVITCHER REBBE…

…had a lot to say about the need for America to be energy independent.

Here is just some of what he said.
http://www.chabad.org/multimedia/media_cdo/aid/929712/jewish/Americas-Mandate-Energy-Independence.htm

“To succeed, …, America must be free of economic pressure from immoral dictatorships. If we rely on them for oil, this nation’s strength and influence is compromised.”

It IS doable, if only some enterprising and persistent individual and or group tries hard enough.

You guys don’t know jack about what Palin did in Alaska. She didn’t promote oil delelopment nor did she take anyone to court, supreme or any over a natural gas pipeline. There is no gas pipeline and their isn’t going to be one any time soon thanks to her idiot AGIA legislation. Palin governed as a anti-oil company populist and her policies did nothing but hinder any new development in Alaska.

Remember a few years ago when “federal land” was called “public land”? Change they way you talk to change the way you think.

Can’t drill in the USA, so obambi gives a george soros oil company in Brazil $2 billion for off shore oil drilling. Of course none of that oil will come to America, China is their biggest customer.

Of course the MSM is to busy kissing his ass to even attempt to pretend to do their job.

Starting to feel like a frog sitting in a simmering pan of stupid on a stove.
