Who Said This?: A Test

By Debbie Schlussel
This is a test. Who uttered this quote?
“Women are all the same. We’re just trouble. I think it’s punishment from G-d to have put men and women on the same planet . . . . Women are full of buttons, little buttons, millions of buttons. And men have just the on and off switch. Men need only food and you-know-what. We need so much more. We’re like–what do you call them? Barrels without bottoms. There’s no way to satisfy women. Ever.”
Is there outrage over this quote? No. But imagine the outrage if this quote had been uttered by, say, Rush Limbaugh–or any prominent male conservative. The feminist whining would be tremendous. Gloria Steinem and the NOW gang would have gotten out their sharpest knives. But, since it was uttered by Latina/Lebanese female pop star Shakira in the July issue of Blender, it’s no big deal. Instead, Blender calls Shakira, “Miss Universe,” and lauds her for being able to “curse in Arabic.” Talk about double standards. (Detroit Free Press’ John Smyntek does say, “Where’s Gloria Steinem?”)

Debbie,
Do you think anyone is actually going to buy Blender Magazine, let alone read an article featuring “Shakira”? I doubt it. Blender is the kind of shmata you thumb thru at an airport and marvel at the air brushing they did to make Shakira look appealing. Her comments regarding the differences in men and women are flawed and deserve criticism, but let’s not forget, this is an entertainer that is barely “B” List here in the USA.

Eh, I don’t know…It doesn’t sound as if she’s really that serious. I don’t think it’s something to get that upset about.
And it would matter if it was a conservative that said this. A liberal male that said this would also get plenty of flak over a comment like this.

At least you’re not connecting Shakira to the Al-Qaida or Hamas, “yet” 🙂
(Even Bnai Brith quashed that Internet rumor…)

Yes, I, too, am thankful you didn’t make another Al-Qaida connection.
Who wants to remember such unpleasant things like 9/11, video taped beheadings, and radical Islam looking to attack the United States ASAP?
Party on, dudes!

Remember she comes from a Latin/Machismo society even in Chile were women out looking for jobs are asked to mail in their pictures because ugly and fat people are not supposed to have jobs and the world should only allow beautiful people to work. The whole culture is racked with the Madonna/Whore thing in which this B-list entertainer is working hard to steady the myth. Never mind her. At least she looks better than the little Meztiso women I see built like spongebob squareparts wearing the tighest most ill-fitting mis matched clothing on the planet but in Latin America that is sexy oh and they start their daughters off young too. I mean have you ever watched a Latin Childrens show. C’mon now. Look what we are talking about here.
