America Defeats Japan to ReCapture Championship

By
It’s not exactly the . And it’s not exactly the U.S. beating Japan in World War II.
But, today, America can take solace that we’ve retaken the Nathan’s hot dog eating contest from Japan. On June 2, America’s Joey Chestnut set a new world hot dog eating record of 59.5 hot dogs consumed in 12 minutes defeating Japan’s Takeru Kobayashi, who held the previous world record 53.75 hot dogs in 12 minutes (last year). That’s almost 5 hot dogs per minute. Kobayashi wasn’t competing in this particular contest. But a record’s a record. And Chestnut beat his.
U-S-A! U-S-A! U-S-A! Thanks to reader Ari for the tip. Here’s the video (you can stop watching after about a minute):

You didn’t know this? Joey Chestnut almost beat Kobyashi last year. He came in a close 2nd at the Nathan’s contest.
However Deb, I think you need to do some fact checking. The news report I saw said that Chestnut beat Kobyashi’s record at a regional contest; NOT the Nathan’s contest. The Nathan’s contest (regarded as the world championship) is held on July 4th in New York.
I’m going off of memory here, so please forgive me if I’m wrong. You might just want to double-check some of the details of your blog entry.
In the mean time, Chestnut definitely beat Kobyashi’s record.
THIS ONE WAS SPONSORED BY NATHAN’S, TOO. CHECK THE VIDEO AND LOOK AT THE WALLPAPER/BACKGROUND.

As Ric Flair says: “To be the man, you’ve got to beat the man”. He only beat a number. Kobyashi only eats as many as he needs to win. If he beats him in a direct competition – then we can celebrate a national victory on the scale of the 1980 Olympic Hockey Team.

Semnol:
I was happy to see Joey Chestnut beat Kobyashi’s record, BUT by failing to do it in head-to-head competition, I’m afraid Joey tipped his hand. Now Kobyashi knows the number he needs to beat at THE BIG ONE on July 4th.
I might have held back a little if I were Chestnut. OTOH, I’m on a diet and have lost 25 pounds, so the thought of eating all those hot dogs is er… uh… a tad bit painful to contemplate.
And now… I think I’ll take Deb’s advice and check out the video. This whould be good.

Is this America’s claim to fame? Eating a shitload of hotdogs? I thought it was our education, our freedom our technology our industry…oh yeah, we outsourced everything to that communist CUNTry China, who may bomb us soon with the money we give them to make our products we buy today and they could also sell weapons to Iran. Jesus fucking H Christ!
Oh sorry, since Reagan practically destroyed the Sherman Anti-trust act and we’re not taxing the shit out of cuntries that support terrorists, like China, we might well eat a wiene.
