Texas Media Lie on Schlussel v Farouk Shami: It’s Not Just That He’s Muslim, It’s That He’s Extremist

By Debbie Schlussel

A while ago, I told you about Farouk Shami, the owner of Chi, BioSilk, and Farouk Systems hair products.  The multi-millionaire Palestinian Muslim is running for Governor of Texas on the Democratic ticket and plans to spend gazillions of his own money to finance his bid (plus I’m sure many Al-Blahblahblahs donate, too).  As I told you, he’s an extremist who was honored by the pro-HAMAS, anti-Semitic American Task Force on Palestine.  And he refuses to openly condemn HAMAS, Islamic Jihad, etc. nor to recognize Israel’s right to exist . . . just like his friends at ATFP.  Plus he funds extremist girls schools in the so-called “West Bank” and employs extremists there, at his Chi plants.

Extremist Makeover: Tex Media Sob Stories Over Schlussel Exposes of Farouk Shami

But the Texas press don’t seem to get that.  So, instead, they’ve dumped on me and praised him as some sort of (fictionally) great American, instead of telling the truth.  The way “reporter”/gullible regurgitator R. G. Ratcliffe of the San Antonio Express-News and the Houston Chronicle, this is about Shami being a Muslim, rather than about his support for and involvement in extremist causes.  Neither paper asked him to denounce HAMAS, Islamic Jihad, and other Palestinian Islamic terrorist groups.  Nor did either paper ask him to recognize Israel.

Instead, Ratcliffe, in the Houston Chronicle (the same article was in the San Antonio Express-News) quotes Shami as saying he loves our troops and how he helped in Hurricane Katrina.  Really–he loves our troops?  Then, let’s hear him denounce the Hezbollah terrorists who murdered 241 of them in Beirut.  He won’t do it.  Nor will the Chronicle ask him to.  And the paper says only this about what I wrote:

“The absence of economic and social freedom for Palestinians is in no one’s long-term interest not Palestinians, nor Israelis, and certainly not Americans,” Shami wrote.

Such sentiments brought him under fire from conservative commentator Debbie Schlussel, who suggested he is anti-Israel in a piece titled “Jihad and hair care: Meet Texas Dems’ Palestinian Muslim candidate for governor.”

[Link added by DS, not in original.]

Uh, actually, that’s NOT why I attacked him, nor did I cite that quote in my column exposing the real Farouk Shami to the world.  Sadly, the Chronicle’s and Express-News’ Ratcliffe declines to note what I did say and quote me, because then he/she/it would actually have to ask Shami some tough questions and do a real story.  As I noted, FOX News’ David Asman, who is normally stellar, gave him a similarly gushing interview on FOX Business Channel, too.

This is why you need people like me, on the net, to do the real homework and ask the questions they won’t.  And not surprisingly, as I noted above, the papers declined to provide a link to my work on Mr. Shami, lest their readers actually be informed of the facts.  And, in the case of a liberal Palestinian Muslim (who supports illegal aliens) running for office, we can’t have that.  Can we?

The more Islamic terror and hate-mongering, the more the hand-wringers, panderers and guilty white liberals spew in defense of them. It’s the opposite of what a rational person would expect; like “1984”, or something. Weird.

DS_ROCKS! on December 14, 2009 at 4:05 pm

Run Shami, run!!!! Of course, even if you didn’t look like the Joker from the Batman series, you’re still not getting over 20 percent of the vote in Texas because we don’t trust creeps like you. Go ahead and blow the millions of dollars that would have gone to Hamas instead. Perry and Hutchison may be jokes, but they’re not “The Joker”

oldblue on December 14, 2009 at 4:09 pm

According to Wikipedia, Shami is actually a Quaker. If this is true, it is nonetheless fair to castigate him for being an extremist with bad wishes for Israel…

D: Yet another example of why you can’t trust Wikipedia. Shami openly describes himself as Muslim. DS

danny on December 14, 2009 at 4:31 pm

He is not just Muslim ????? What is wrong with Muslims ? wake up people, you call it Freedom of Religion… !!!

Katie on January 14, 2010 at 8:15 pm

It’s no wonder newspapers are dying. It’s because they lie. About Muslims, about climate “change”, about Obama, about everything. Why would anyone who wasn’t a leftist actually pick up a newspaper (other than to read sports, which are better covered in blogs nowadays anyhow).

When newspapers start telling the truth, they might win readers back. Of course, it will never happen, so newspapers will eventually become government-funded house organs of the Democratic Party.

A “liberal” Muslim. If Shami is one, he should have no trouble submitting to a candid interview and answering Debbie’s questions. He won’t do it and the state-run media is doing its best to cover for him. What they figure is what Texans don’t know won’t hurt them.

Yeah, right.

NormanF on December 14, 2009 at 6:16 pm

Most of the voters in Texas have never heard of this guy nor do we read those rags. The silver lining is that he has less than a zero chance of being elected Governor in the great state of Texas at this time. Of course, that could change over the years as the media and federal government continue to pander to terrorist sympathizers.

Bonzer Wolf on December 14, 2009 at 7:19 pm

This creature may not be able to win in Texas but there are other states where he probably could, like New York for instance. With enough media cover up and deletion of facts most mind numb Americans believe just whats told to them on channel six news.

Is BioSilk an off brand? I’ve never heard of it.

lexi on December 14, 2009 at 10:13 pm

Actually BioSilk Silk Therapy is the number one selling beauty product in the world. The CHI Iron is the number one selling hair tool in the world. What rock have you been under?

Joshua on January 13, 2010 at 7:02 am

Best selling product line – unsubstantiated Beauty Show hype!

As a professional hairdresser, Farouk has always stated that his products (SunGlitz, BioSilk etc) would ONLY be sold to the professional market, yet somehow they are in Walmart, Cosco, Target, HEB, as well as in many discount stores, thus undermining the salons’ ability to sell them at higher retail prices.

As to Farouk’s claims for being a multi-billion dollar company, one needs to know how Farouk has always counted his revenues: Not what he sold to the distributors (his wholesale revenue), not what the distributors sold to the salons (100% markup), but economic activity his products generated to the salons (retail and service revenues).

Farouk has done well for himself and his partner claiming to be a Billionaire; however, he is not listed on the Forbes List of Billionaires.

I guess it shouldn’t surprise me that a Muslim is going to run for governor in Texas, I mean, after all, there’s already a Muslim illegally occupying 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

Events such as this, occur partially because The Washington D.C. Branch of The New World Order is in bed with The Pay Masters of Muslim OIL Dollars. And yes, that is the same Muslim OIL Dollars that financed the 911 Attack on America.

But the bottom line regarding events such as this, brings to my mind the words of the prophet Daniel in chapter 4, where it indicates that The Most High God will put the most vile and reprobate people into positions of power to punish an ungodly nation.

Oklahoma on December 14, 2009 at 10:55 pm

After Rupert Murdoc and Bush got through with the media, it is a wonder they don’t just put reality t.v. on during the news “hour”. The media is completely thrashed in America. Fox news and all the rest of them. There is little to no actual news, and none of what is seen is even factual, vetted, researched or looked over with any depth.

It is a wonder that journalism students don’t quit due to the fact their professors live in a bubble completely ostracized by current trends. The two no longer measure up one to another.

You wonder that the paper doesn’t ask this man about his extremist views and the fact that he would hoist them on an unsuspecting public? Where’s the surprise? He’s probably paying for every interview and previews all the questions. News has no integrity. Reporters are all liars, only out for profits. If the news has to make profits, they are no longer news.

Joe on December 15, 2009 at 11:03 am

Wikipedia says he’s a Quaker?! I need to check that one – oh boy that is rich!! That was a cover/lie if ever – and its just one after another on any news story on the Muslims who want to come out in the open to push their Islamic agenda, and control us infidels. I never believe anything they say, Baghdad Bob should have clued the media a long time ago, but the media still runs their lies, and excoriates any person of Jewish or Christian backgrounds. I will also not buy Biosilk, Chi, or Farouk hair products. Thanks Debbie for making this known, nobody else in media has the smarts to do so. Texas had better wake up, Houston is going bad (huge pop of Middle Easterners), and they may become the rectum that fouls the whole state.

edna on December 15, 2009 at 2:38 pm

I live in Texas and I’ll keep you posted on this. Houston mayor Bill White has recently announced for governor, so Shami might drop out.

Barry Popik on December 15, 2009 at 3:15 pm

Here it is from Wikepedia: http://www.statesman.com/blogs/content/shared-gen/blogs/austin/politics/entries/2009/11/20/farouk_shamis_quaker_faith.html?cxntfid=blogs_postcards|Farouk

Its an article from Stateman (Austin newspaper), which says he went to American Quaker schools in Palestine:

” “But as we reported in today’s paper, he’s not Muslim — he’s Quaker.

Here’s some more information on his religious background, according to campaign spokesman Jason Stanford: Shami had a Muslim mother and father, a Catholic stepmother and a Jewish step-grandmother.

“He went to American Quaker schools in Palestine and identifies now as a Quaker,” Stanford said.

When asked whether he ever identified with another faith, Stanford said: “It’s not a big issue with him. I really think his religion is the American Dream.” ”

So, because he went to Quaker schools, he’s a Quaker? I sought info to be further enlightened, looked up Quaker under wikepedia and it explains briefly what the Quaker belief system is, it is NOT anywhere similar to Islam, which Farouk denotes in his lifestyle that he holds as he true faith (he vocally gives thanks to Allah), uh I believe Quakers don’t do that. So, its taqiyya, until he officially renounces Islam and Mohamed as a false religion, the burden rests on him to prove he is supposedly a Quaker (Christian). Don’t think it will happen, funny how he promotes Ramadan and is on the Palestine Task Force, but no Quaker faith institutions, other than Ramallah House which is a sympathetic Quaker front in Gaza which bemoans the poor Palestinians’ refugee status, but not anything about Judeo-Christian beliefs.
One more thing, Texans will not vote for him as governor ever, not after the Ft. Hood massacre, that is one thing Obama and his financial advisors can take to the bank! Remember the Ft. Hood masssacre, Texans!!!!

Farouk Shami – Fact Check
From http://www.faroukforgovernor.com
“… and founded a multi-billion dollar company that has created thousands of jobs for Texans…”

Farouk claims (as well documented in many articles and interviews, and then repeated by the media) to be a Billionaire; however he is NOT listed on Forbes List of Billionaires – with his ego he definitely would make sure that he would be listed if he just could prove it.

According to his claims, Farouk Systems is a billion dollar company with thousands of employees; however Hoover’s reported the 2008 revenues as $27.4 million with 150 employees and Houston Business Journal reported his revenues as $37.5 million – this is probably before CHI operations were brought to US – However, Farouk has always counted his revenues in the following manner:
• Not what he sold to the distributors (his revenue)
• Or what the distributors sold to the salons (with100% markup)
• But what economic activity the salons created by selling and using his products, i.e. salon retail (with another 100% markup) and service revenues (product cost 10%) – However, even with his calculations, it does not add up to a billion dollars (even if CHI sales were $300-400 million)

• As to employees, Farouk has counted all the part-time educators (independent salon owners and hairdressers) who conduct training classes and work the beauty shows (scheduled by the distributors) as his “employees”, since the company pays for their fees & expenses – these are temporary and very part-time contract workers, not full-time employees on his payroll

Farouk’s management philosophy includes
• “I conceived it, thus it’s done”, i.e. making a decision tonight and fully expecting it to be implemented before he even talks to anyone – it works in a small entrepreneurial organization where he has the total control and it is his own money – However, how would it work in our democratic form of government?
• In his culture (and business practice) – “cousins” (anyone with Middle Eastern heritage) make no mistakes and family “walks on water”

Longtime Texan on December 16, 2009 at 8:15 pm

I wouldn’t expect any different from Houston’s Hometown Pravda (Chronicle)and it’s liberal staff. The local news did puff pieces on this guy too.

StoneSatellite on December 16, 2009 at 10:07 pm

Riveting critiques from the peanut gallery here. Let’s see, he’s Muslim (eeek!) and he’s ugly, yeah that’s it, and his mother dresses him funny. I’d expect nothing more from the racist xenophobic extremists on this site. You guys are hilarious – I should know, I’m a clown.

Bobo Teh Clown on December 17, 2009 at 4:08 pm

BOBO Umm to point out how stupid you actually are but Muslim is not a RACE it is a religion. African, Asian, Caucasian, Hispanics. THOSE ARE RACES!! Muslims, Christians, Jews, Zen-Buddhists are RELIGIONS. But since the only arguement Liberals have left to use is race, I can see how you made the “mistake”
It’s actually become very funny. Calling someone a racist used to bother people however now that the majority see Liberals as modern day Beavis’s who instead of going around saying “Fire, huh Fire hehe Fire” go around yelling “Racist huh Racist, hehe Racist”
One must love Pseudo-Intellectuals for their comedic value if nothing else 🙂

Martin Fee on December 17, 2009 at 7:18 pm

Why do I find it hard to imagine the Good-Ole-Boys in Texas electing a Muslim to be their Governor? Il, MI, NY, NJ, Ct, Ca, Ma Etc I could see doing it but not Texas. Besides who knows how much these “Reporters” were paid to give a good report on him. Knowing he would never get elected and standing a chance to actually make money during this Carter… I mean Obama Economy I too would gladly take a ton of his money in return for a good review. Only I would spend the money on guns, ammo, and a used Armored Personel Carrier I saw for sale. It would be so ironic to shoot them with weapons paid for by him now wouldn’t it?

Martin Fee on December 17, 2009 at 7:06 pm

“Calling someone a racist used to bother people however now that the majority see Liberals as modern day Beavis’s”

Would that be the “majority” that overwhelmingly elected a Democratic President and large majorities in both houses of Congress?

Bobo Teh Clown on December 18, 2009 at 9:55 am

Debbie you are a fu$%*&# liar and a hippocrit. Get your facts straight beeoch. You are out of your mind. Stupid a$$ hole. I am a Christian and Farouk would never ever support Hamas. You Idiot. Stop the hate now!

Hello Racist ,

You know Debbie you should be kicked out of America because America doesn’t want a racist person like you !!!
Farouk is a very kind American , he does believe that whatever color we are whatever religion we believe in we are all people of America !
Farouk will be our next Governor !! and you Debbie will be go to hell!!!!
Whatever you do and whatever you write Texans will vote for Farouk !!!
Fuck you bitch!!!

Lola Bush on December 27, 2009 at 2:39 am

There’s a reason candidates spend so much money on campaigns. Because the sad truth is it usually works. I don’t think Debbie’s problem with Farouk is him being Muslim. I think it’s the fact that Farouk is a Muslim and won’t denounce HAMAS or demonstrate that he is above all an American. It’s a valid concern. It may not be politically correct, but we can no longer afford such correctness. Just because the man spends millions on his campaign doesn’t mean we have to elect him. If Farouk wants to run for governor it’s his right. If we don’t want a governor who doesn’t put America first, it’s our right to vote for someone else. Just FYI.

Of course, we should really worry if Lola is the typical Farouk supporter. Is kicking people out of America going to be a Farouk policy? And I’m concerned about Joshua as well. Calling Debbie a fu$%*&# liar, a stupid a$$hole and an idiot, then pleading to stop the hate makes me question his sincerity…as well as his mental stability.

It IS unfair that we can’t assume a Muslim’s American patriotism. Then again, life is unfair. As a Catholic, I would expect the same unfairness if so many Catholics made it their life’s mission to kill everything that moves. I have nothing close to an answer to this dilemma. All I know is I don’t want to be blown up just because I was afraid of being politically incorrect.

Victor on January 7, 2010 at 3:03 pm

You dint have to be worried about my mental stability. I am just appalled that this is the third article that Debbie has written about Farouk. Which none of which she has written is even close to the truth. Anyone that knows this man will tel you he is a kind hearted giving and loving person to all walks of life. It is not fair the Debbie misuses her media presence to deface a good human being and those of you that do not do your own homework on real facts feed into her hate of anyone that is not of her faith. I have know Farouk since the age of 5 and I am 35 now. I am an American, Catholic, Caucasian Conservative and he has always treated me and my family as his own. I have never heard a single hate comment from his mouth about any other race or religion and have spent countless days in the thousands with this honest man. Please find the facts on Farouk that any of what Debbie is saying is true. Please show me the money.

Here’s the issue – someone can be the nicest person on earth and spend a lot of money and spread it around but that doesn’t make them the correct person for governor or any political office if they can’t prove they are only for the USA. If they won’t denounce terrorist organizations and their plots, then they aren’t for the USA. Some of you supporters who commented, go and ask your buddy directly how he feels about Hamas and Israel’s right to exist as a country and tell him that he needs to be interviewed by Debbie. I can guarantee that he won’t agree to it or will prove his dedication to America!

It does not matter what religion a politican is, but there are always journalists with a Jewish Agenda that try to make religion an issue especially when someone with an Islamic background is running. Remember Obama, who is from a Muslim background in 2008. The Jews at Fox news tried to paint him in a negative light.
