Remembering the Victims of Mumbai: Revered Rabbi’s Thanksgiving Message

By Debbie Schlussel

Last night, I watched a PBS a/k/a Palestinian Broadcasting Company documentary on last year’s Mumbai Massacre perpetrated by Islamic terrorists. Hard to believe it was only a year ago, last Thanksgiving, that Muslims targeted Americans, British, and Jews, and murdered every last Jew (other than a baby) at the Lubavitch Jewish Center, known as Nariman House, in Mumbai. Not only should we give thanks that these Muslim thugs haven’t taken over our country (yet), but also that we did not suffer the fate of those who were massacred in Mumbai.

The Late Lubavitcher Rebbe, Menachem M. Schneerson, of Blessed Memory

While the documentary’s narrator took great pains to tell us that the terrorists were “indiscriminate” and targeted “Christians, Muslims, and Jews,” the documentary and the facts told a different story. A Turkish Muslim couple, Seyfi and  Meltem Muezzinoglu, were spared their lives because they were, in fact, Muslims and cited a sura from the koran to prove it. The telephone calls from the terrorist masterminds in Pakistan were recorded, and you can hear one of them saying, “Spare the two Muslims, and kill everyone else.”  The Muezzinoglus recount how they were allowed to live as they heard and watched the terrorists shoot a rain of bullets at all of the non-Muslims among them, with a torrent of blood falling on them. Yes, clearly non-Muslims–specifically Jews, Americans, and Brits–were targeted.

The Lubavitch Chassidic movement in Judaism is a leading force in American Jewry and Judaism around the world. When most other American Jews intermarry out of the faith, they will be the majority of those who remain (along with other Orthodox Jews who are not Chassidic Jews). In contrast to the Mumbai Islamic terrorists and their fellow co-religionists in places like Dearbornistan (where today is not Thanksgiving, but just another day to hate America from within), we American Jews love Thanksgiving. The Lubavitch movement’s late leader, the Lubavitcher Rebbe a/k/a Rabbi Menachem Schneerson, Z”L [a Hebrew/Jewish abbreviation for, “Blessed Be His Memory”], loved Thanksgiving and celebrated it with his movement, giving this 1986 speech about Thanksgiving and his respect for the Founding Fathers.

I repeat the key part of it here:

The foundation of this nation was laid by the Founding Fathers, who after coming to this country proclaimed a holiday of Thanksgiving to G-d, Creator and Director of the world, for having saved them and bringing them to a secure land where they could live free of oppression and decrees–to live as they see fit, beginning from practicing their faith in G-d as Creator and Director of the world, in their own times, in their own lives, and their own rescues. They even established it as a law that every year on that day, it must be remembered again, to thank G-d from the depths of our hearts, for having shown them His kindness openly.

It has been established even for non-believers–who in their hearts believe as well, but for whatever reason, boast that they do not believe, or they believe that G-d is far away, somewhere in the Seventh Heaven. But even they know that when a matter affects them seriously, they pray to the Superbeing, to G-d, for help. And certainly, they participate in the Thanksgiving celebration for the founding of this nation by the first gentiles who arrived here.

. . . [A]lthough there were Jews among them, the majority, who established Thanksgiving, were non-Jews. This faith has been celebrated from generation to generation, including our own generation. . . .

[T]he Founders began their life in this country by thanking G-d. . . . This is the foundation of this country, to save the righteous from the hands of evil.

AMEN.

Debbie, thank you for remembering and bringing the Rebbe’s message. May their memory be blessed.

Debbie, the program was on HBO, and it’s fascinating, and frightening as hell.
Hearing the perpetrators discuss instructions from their demented “leaders”, was really beyond believability, and should be required viewing for all US politicians.
Let’s pray they stay close to home.

I always thought the “Golden Rule” was the foundation of all religions. Obviuosly, not,,,,,,,

M: HBO had a documentary and so did PBS. I don’t have cable and could not have seen the HBO version. I watched the PBS one. DS

Gee, the PBS narrator left out the Hindus? Those were the bulk of the casualities, aside from the Chabad House ones.

The speech of Rabbi Menachem Schneerson, Z”L, put chills in my body and made my hair stand.

Truth and justice will prevail regardless of the politicians and their tools.

Happy Thanksgivings for soooo many years to come and not for Muslims and their terror allies.

I just finished watching the documentary on my local PBS station (I don’t know why you call it Palestinian, since pretty much every month there is a Jewish themed programme or series). It really was horrifying, and I felt accurate. They did go to great pains to show how the cowardly Muezzinoglu couple (see: parasitic Mohammedan Turks) were spared, and that they had no issues using the fact that they were Mohammedan to their advantage. They didn’t plea for anyone else’s safety, nor did they try to reason with their co-religionists. This is a prime example of why Mohammedanism is such an evil religion. They can claim “hey, it wasn’t us. It was those other crazy extremists.” But what did they do to stop it?

Sickening.

QR: Wow, you fell for the PBS ploy along with Jewish liberals? It’s what we call “bait and switch.” The Jewish culture programs PBS has on mostly air during their telethons when they want to mooch Jewish money. PBS, as I’ve detailed on this site, is a constant parade of anti-Israel, pro-Muslim, and pro-Palestinian propaganda. Where it counts, they’re not on America’s side or the right side against jihad. Sad you’ve been oblivious to that. DS

And Thanksgiving to them.

No one seems to care about us Indians that died. I know a christian Indian receptionist who died. I do feel sorry for all the victims, but many media sources only seem to care about the jews. Yes, many jews died, and that was a horrible thing, but so did many hindu and christian workers. Everyones life has equal value.

“No one seems to care about us Indians that died.” – Dj Hams.

Sorry you have that mistaken impression. In Tampa, shortly after that Islamic assault on civilization, a prominent Indian living in Tampa was invited to speak at one of the local Chabad shuls (Synagogues). We shared our mutual pain. We know this isn’t just about us.

We are well aware that Indians have had to endure for as long as they came in contact with Islam. And, unlike the case with Muslims, Jews have always been well treated by Indians, which speaks volumes for their character. We are very grateful for their unrivaled hospitality.

But, while you are correct that the tragedy isn’t exclusive to us, the fact remains that despite the attackers allegedly wanting to achieve a maximum of destruction, they diverted about 1/5 of their resources to the Chabad House, just to kill a handful of people. That means it was clearly different from the rest of the attack. It’s important to focus on that aspect of this horrible event.

Also, Debbie is, as am I, Jewish. It is only natural, and there is nothing wrong with, our seeing this tragedy through Jewish eyes. We don’t go to Indian web sites and criticize them for lamenting the evil done to them by Muslim fanatics. And if they say, “and some Jews were killed, too,” (or even if they don’t) I am not offended. They have a right to grieve primarily for their own, as do we.

Good point Yonason. You make a lot of sense and I agree with what you say! 🙂

It’s very sad that all you got out of the broadcast was your continuing hatred of Muslims. Perhaps you might want to review Jewish-Muslim history and ask where it went askew? Because during the Dark Ages, the Muslims in Spain were protecting Jews who were being killed and persecuted in the rest of Europe. Then of course they were given the choice of convert or die when the Catholics took over. Oh joy.

Do you really blame the Turkish couple for living? The very secular Turkish couple, BTW. Would you not try and live as well?

The massacre at the Chabad house was horrible–no doubt. It was five of the over 173 murders.

What I took out of the program was the great courage of so many of the Indian staff (both Hindu and Muslim) who protected their guests–often at the costs of their own lives. India ia a multifaith society–Hindu, Muslim, Sikh, and Christian–which for the most part, works very well. Most Indians know enough people of other faiths that they can separate the extremists from the “regular” folks. That helps a lot.

For your own sake, please re-read Lev 19:16 and 25:17, if you truly want to be a good Jew. You are gossiping and spreading tales..and causing harm and hatred. Shame. So sorry I ran across your website when I was looking for more info on the PBS program. Dearbornistan? Implying that Muslim-Americans don’t celebrate Thanksgiving? Gee, you’re no better than any of the Muslim Extremists. Just because you’re Jewish, doesn’t make it right. It actually makes it worse, because you know what lies spread about the Jews lead to. Do you wish the same for the Muslims? What about “Never Again”? Shame on you.

Here’s a bit of advice to know if you are using hate language. Replace every reference you have to Muslims with Jews or African-Americans? Sound bigoted? Sound racist? Bother you? Then don’t write it.

“Here’s a bit of advice to know if you are using hate language. Replace every reference you have to Muslims with Jews or African-Americans? Sound bigoted? Sound racist? Bother you? Then don’t write it.”

Sarah, what if you replace every reference you speak of with the word “Nazi”, or any other evil hate group you chose? Then it would not be bigoted or racist would it!?! Now that we are clear on that the next step would be to determine if ISLAM in fact meets the criteria of a hate group. The problem is that in order to actually get an educated opinion on that matter you would have to become fluent in Arabic (just like Debbie) and read a true unadulterated version of the Quran and it’s various Hadiths. I am guessing you have not done that yet, because if you did, you would not have made the comment!

“Perhaps you might want to review Jewish-Muslim history and ask where it went askew? Because during the Dark Ages, the Muslims in Spain were protecting Jews who were being killed and persecuted in the rest of Europe.”

“Protecting” the same Jews they were extorting the Jiza (Non – Muslim Tax) from in order to earn the right to live as third class citizens? I am guessing the reason so many Spanish Jews became Moranos was because they prefered becomming Catholic to living under the rule of ISLAM!!!

Moses on November 28, 2009 at 4:51 am

“I am guessing the reason so many Spanish Jews became Moranos was because they prefered becomming Catholic to living under the rule of ISLAM!!!”

Sorry, Moses, you’d be guessing WRONG. Jews in Spain, despite the JIza, became wealthy and important members of the Court as well as prospering in other areas. They became Conversos (using “maranos” = using the N word) because of the relentless evil and brutality of the Inquisition. It was ” Their Most Catholic Majesties” who persecuted, impoverished and finally expelled us.

And BTW the Islamic invaders actually ended the DARK Ages in Europe by bringing learning i.e. science, mathematics and medicine as well as art and literature to that blighted continent. What happened? Eventually that false “being of light” we call hasatan shows his true dark nature and when you follow him, as Allah or any other entity, for too long you become just as corrupted as he is.

Off-track, this is what the Indian government has done with the terrorist Kasab over the last one year. Take care of him like he’s a VIP for killing hundreds of kafirs.

Hard to say if the American government is more PC than the Indian government when it comes to mozzlum terrorists – even those like Kasab who were caught red-handed shooting innocent kafirs to death.
