On Thanksgiving, Be Thankful That Your Rabbi, Pastor Ain’t Like This

By Debbie Schlussel

If your pastor, priest, reverend, rabbi, or whatever you call your cleric, is like either of the two non-Muslim guys in this rendition of “The Three Stooges,” it’s time to find a new house of worship.

We Are the World, We Are the Children; Can’t We All Just Get Along and Ignore Nidal Malik Hasan’s Islamic Terrorist Massacre? Blah, Blah, Blah:

But there they were, Rabbi Ted Falcon, the Rev. Don Mackenzie and Sheik Jamal Rahman, walking into an Indian restaurant, and afterward a Presbyterian church. The sanctuary was full of 250 people who came to hear them talk about how they had wrestled with their religious differences and emerged as friends.

Dumbassity: Rabbi Ted Falcon Hugs Muslim @ Mosque

They call themselves the “interfaith amigos.” And while they do sometimes seem more like a stand-up comedy team than a trio of clergymen, they know they have a serious burden in making a case for interfaith understanding in a country reeling after a Muslim Army officer at Fort Hood, Tex., was charged with opening fire on his fellow soldiers, killing 13.

“It arouses once again fear, distrust and doubt,” Sheik Rahman said, “and I know that when that happens, even the best of people cannot think clearly.” . . .

They began to meet weekly for spiritual direction, combining mutual support with theological reflection. Their families became acquainted over meals. They started an AM radio show, and they traveled together to Israel and the occupied territories. Recently, they wrote a book, “Getting to the Heart of Interfaith.”

At one point, the rabbi read a line the sheik had written about the security wall in Israel and announced, “If that line is in the book, I’m not in the book.” After vigorous discussion, Sheik Rahman rewrote the line in a way that both men felt was respectful of their principles.

Barf. I wish this was the first group of fraudulent “interfaith amigos” to grace Ameica. But it ain’t. Sadly, there are tons of these idiots–who, forty years ago, would have been smoking hashish at some ashram and spitting on our troops returning from Vietnam. That includes Daniel Pearl’s father, Judea Pearl, a complete phony, who travels the US with an extremist Muslim professing their “peacefulness” and “tolerance.” Goody for you. You win a broken Cracker Jacks prize for that.  Ditto for these Rodney King-atrixes, the Witches of Jihadwick.

Yeah, we need to trust Muslims more after the Fort Hood massacre because . . .? After the Mumbai massacre because . . .?  After the 9/11 attacks because . . .? After the 1998 U.S. Embassy bombings because. . . ? After the 1985 TWA Flight 847 hijacking, during which Navy diver Robert Dean Stethem was tortured to death because . . .? After the 1983 mass murder of U.S. Marines and Embassy officials in Beirut because? After the U.S. Embassy officials were taken hostage for 444 because . . .?

As the late Sy Syms, who just recently passed away, used to say, “An Educated Consumer Is Our Best Customer.”

We need less kumbaya-niks, and more Educated Consumers in America. And Americans gobbling up this interfaith BS along with their turkey are the former. Certainly not the latter.

To my readers, on Thanksgiving Day, be thankful that you are the kind of American Sy Simms was talking about. Be hopeful that maybe some day, the rest of our country will wake the heck up.

If Islam was truly interested in co-existence, tolerance and peace it would have demonstrated it through example, which as Edmund Burke observed, is the school of instruction for mankind. We’ve seen a lot about Islam before and after 9/11 and it is none of the above.

All the flowery words in the world won’t change the nature of Islam nor will those dhimmi Jews and Christians who seek to misrepresent it to the world, have that effect upon it. We need less whoring on behalf of Islam and more honesty about the clear and present danger it presents to us all and to the future generations to come.

Then perhaps as you write, some day the rest of the country will wake the heck up.

NormanF on November 25, 2009 at 11:59 am

America like the rest of the West will never wake up, no matter what – this rabbi and pastor are representative of mainstream dhimmi America, they are not the fringe, they are America and America in denial. New York, Chicago and LA could be nuked by the ROP, liberals and many conservatives would still insist that Islam is a religion of peace, and this was just a Tiny Minority of Extremists who had twisted the meaning of the Qu’ran blabla..

Larry on November 25, 2009 at 12:05 pm

According to the NY Times, they are all liberal clerics. Which tells us nothing about orthodox Islam’s dealings with non-Muslim faiths. Had the the Sufism of Farid ud din Attar’s “Conference of the Birds” prevailed in the Muslim World, history might have turned out differently. But the majority of Muslims believe in jihad, in the murder and subjugation of infidels and imposing a totalitarian ideology upon the world. Facts are stubborn things and until we learn to deal with Islam as it really is and not as we would wish it to be we will have great difficulty in prevailing over it. Showing weakness and accommodating it will not empower the few Muslim moderates but will instead show Muslim jihadists the way of the sword is the way to victory. We must draw a line for the sake of our civilization.

Three well meaning clergymen won’t make it easier for the rest of us to defend that line – and spiritual disarmament in the face of a deadly enemy is not the means of safeguarding the West’s existence.

NormanF on November 25, 2009 at 12:20 pm

Larry, the country was in denial before World War II about the Nazi threat. It took Pearl Harbor to wake it up. I now think 9/11 wasn’t the equivalent of Pearl Harbor as far as confronting the Islamic threat is concerned. Human nature does not like to deal with evil and we find it difficult to accept there are people out there who would like to destroy America. We like to think that people from all walks of life can get along here, its the same with the rest of the world. Unfortunately, the rest of the world is not America and will never be.

NormanF on November 25, 2009 at 12:25 pm

I will tolerate Islam only after they decide to throw away the Koran and abide by the laws of civilized society.

Jarhead on November 25, 2009 at 12:33 pm

No one cares what you think.

One of the constituent parts of being a civilised society includes accepting people no matter what they believe.

That doesn’t mean that you can’t disagree with what someone believes, but that you can’t dictate what they need to do before you accept them.

People like you are part of the problem, not the solution. As is the author of this website.

LM on November 25, 2009 at 1:03 pm

“That doesn’t mean that you can’t disagree with what someone believes, but that you can’t dictate what they need to do before you accept them.”

On what planet is this considered logical? So a large group of people (over a BILLION?!?) who believe that GOD told them “The Day [of Judgment] will not come until you fight the Jews and KILL THEM” are a group I (as a JEW) can’t dictate to as to what they need to do before I “accept” THEM???

What part of “THEY WANT ME AND 15,000,000 OF MY BROTHERS AND SISTERS DEAD” do you not understand?

Instead of wasting everyone’s time on websites you think are part of the “problem”, why not waste time actually reading the koran (one of the many versions) and hadiths, then come back and give us some logic about who needs to “accept” who.

And as for your “no one cares what you think”… thank GOD a hell of a lot MORE of us DO INDEED CARE, and MORE are being woken up EVERY DAY to the EVIL in this world.

Perhaps in your butterflies and roses world you can sit at a table sipping tea and making nice with people who BELIEVE GOD wants them to KILL you, but in the REAL world the rest of us love in, alas, it ain’t so.

Isn’t it great that we can get ignoramuses like LM to leave a reply here? So LM, if I am supposed to accept everyone, does that include people like mass murderers Muhammad, Osama Bin Laden, Nidal Hasan, John Allen Muhammad and some of your other brethren? How’s the European invasion of Islam going for you LM?

Jarhead on November 25, 2009 at 5:41 pm

LM…you and your friends should not be reading blogs intended for adults. When you open your mouth, your brain falls out. Gooday mate!

arejaymack on November 26, 2009 at 6:06 pm

LM, is Nidal Malik Hasan part of your solution? I heard he’s entered a plea of insanity. Yet the at time he knew exactly what he was doing. Now the Left will claim it wasn’t Islam that made him do it.

That means according to you and them, Debbie Schlussel is part of the problem.

Yeah, sure.

NormanF on November 25, 2009 at 1:25 pm

These clowns are redefining the meaning of “STUPID”. It is in the nature of dimwits and retards that they are unable to rationally evaluate that which is taking place before their very eyes. Unfortunately, this kind are of no value in the war against jihad because they will not awaken until their own family members heads are on poles. I puke at the sight of them.

joesixpack31 on November 25, 2009 at 3:17 pm

BTW- I have had several friends and acquaintances over the years who called themselves “muslims”, but who did not, in fact, practice islam as it is written and proscribed in the koran and hadiths… in other words, they drank alcohol, ate bacon, didn’t pray 5 times a day, didn’t fast during ramadan, etc. etc. Kind of like Reformed muslims I guess. And they didn’t care. They never even studied the religion themselves. And we were friends and got along fine.

Cause they did NOT believe God wanted them to kill me.

Doda McCheesle on November 25, 2009 at 3:27 pm

Doda, what you said above just means those friends/acquaintances were muslim in name only. They inherited the religion at birth from their parents. As you said they don’t practice the religion. But, you better believe if they have to pick a side one day. They will pick their muslim heritage over secularism. A lot of times people like you mention, reconnect with their religion and become more fundemental or radical then practicing muslims. Islam is a danagerous political ideology which is simply disguised as a religion. And the threat is very real in what Islam promotes and wants to do to this world.

NormanF. I happen to agree with you that 9/11 has NOT awaken Americans like Pearl Harbor did. And not sure what it will take for Americans to wake up to this. Might take a dirty nuke, chemical or biological weapon to truly awaken Americans to the threat islam/muslims have for our western culture. I sincerely hope it doesn’t come to this. But, Americans do need a wake up call and soon. Because our current government seems to be panderring to the muslim communities. Obama took an oath to protect America and it’s people…something he hasn’t and isn’t doing. Hence he should be impeach on this alone.

Tenn Scholar on November 25, 2009 at 4:29 pm

At this point, post Fort Hood, after all that has been said and done, if you continue to self-identify as a Muslim, it is perfectly reasonable for Infidels, like me, to assume that you know what Islam teaches and that you agree with it, or at least are not about to do anything to prevent or denounce such teachings.

Any more attempts on the lives of Infidels has to be treated as an act of war, by Muslims on non-Muslims. In World War II the Allied bombers did not selectively bomb only full-fledged enthusiasts for the nazis or state shintoists. They bombed entire German and Japanese cities into rubble, to defeat the enemy.

It is the collective that counts in wartime. We should not waste our time delicately attempting to distinguish between this or that degree of support individual Muslims have for any degree of jihad.

Islam, the “portable theocratic state” has made it’s presence known and is no longer welcome. Islam is beyond it’s “sell by” date. Islam delende est.

A priest, a rabbi, and an imam walk into a restaurant….

Hey! That sounds like the beginning of a joke; not some attempt to cover up the imperial ambitions of most Muslims.

There is NO Santa Claus on November 25, 2009 at 6:54 pm

Well I’m glad you all had a good fume over my incisive little dig.

Certainly I am horrified by events such as 9/11, the Bali bombings, the 7/7 attacks and the Fort Hood shooting. From this evidence do I assume that Islam is a violent and blood-thirsty religion? No. I would only conclude that if I was a grunting, gun-toting Neanderthal who thinks that FOX News has its fair-and-balanced finger squarely on the pulse of international events.

It makes no sense to castigate every devout Muslim because of the actions of a tiny minority. The war on terror is a war on terrorists, not Muslims. I have met many Muslims and not one has ever impressed upon me the need or the desire to kill Jewish people.

I could not disagree more with the above. If we followed through with that plan of action, would we bomb the whole Middle East, and further afield? Would we kill Muslims from Albania to Indonesia; from Sudan to Turkey? Wholesale genocide is not the answer to anyone’s problem.

LM on November 25, 2009 at 7:11 pm

This stupid bitch obviously makes her money off of hate-mongering. According to her, there’s no way people of two different faithts could ever co-exist or be friends. Any fuck-tard who’s studied the facts knows that terrorists attack the U.S. because of our undying support for the Israeli state and the civillian casualties we incur. Ask yourselves, what’s more likely: That they hate us for our “freedom” or because we bomb innocent civillians in pursuit of “terrorists”. Open your fucking eyes: innocent men, women and children are dying and this cunt only wants more of it. It’s how she makes her money. If there were no war on terror, this ugly bitch would just be another conservative commentator, bitching about liberals. Also, fuck Liberals and Conservatives. They both want to tell others how to live their lives.

YourMom on November 25, 2009 at 7:38 pm

Aren’t you sweet! If Israel did not exist do you think the Moslem loons would hate us less? What do you say about the “honor” kllings that have occurred in the USA? Did that have anything to do with Middle East policy? You have your first Moslem president in Obama – you should be very happy! What a sickie you are.

JulieJ. on November 26, 2009 at 11:29 am

You asked the question “we need to trust Muslims because…??”

Well maybe “trust” is the wrong word. Maybe we need to bridge the gap between us. Hate leads to fighting leads to death…it’s a vicious circle and it’s getting us nowhere.

Do you propose that we all keep banging our heads against a brick wall until we all die? Is that your solution?

Maybe it’s easy for you since you live in the US which has seen a total of 2 major attacks on its soil in the past century…
I myself lived in Israel and served in the IDF during the 2nd Antifaddah in the mid 90’s. You remember those days? Bus bombing were all the rage? I myself narrowly missed one such attack while on my way to the Dizingoff Centre, the bomb went off a few minutes before I got there. I saw the carnage with my own eyes.

It must stop. 2000 years of this is much too long. We fought the fight, we won many battles but make no mistake, we are losing the war. Not just against the Muslims but the world as a whole is looking down on Israel even when they themselves are fighting similar battles with extremist Muslims.

I say this not as some hippie dippy pacifist, but as a former soldier who has watched her own nation drown in this never ending war. We are humans, not animals, we were given the mental capacity to speak, to mediate, to work through our problems and find solutions.

We need to try to SOLVE this problem already! Your hate speech makes you as bad as the enemy. I hope you stop to think about that for a minute.

Israelite on April 28, 2014 at 4:17 pm

I forgot to mention, of course there are extremist muslims who commit acts of violence in the name of religion. I hate those fucktards as well, but let’s realize that all religions are shit.

Obama is considered Muslim

We know he is a lier, is un impostor, etc, etc and is not doing any better for this country
In the laws of Muslims…. what could be his sentence?
To be lapidated? cut hands and legs?
Isnt he afraid of his own religion?

We Americans, we should give Obama to his Muslims camarades to take care of him per Muslim laws

SouthernLady on November 26, 2009 at 11:34 am

Why is it that leftists are so often like “Your Mom”? The profanity is especially notable.

sk on November 26, 2009 at 1:43 pm

LM, do you think you are saying anything that hasn’t been addressed countless times already? A devout Muslim is like a believing Nazi. We do not know for sure what percentage of the German population in Hitler’s Germany really wanted all Jews to be murdered, but you can bet that more than “a tiny percentage” did.

What if a Muslim is not devout? Well, how do we know about level-of-devoutness when doctrine advocates lying to the Infidel?

Anyway, even if American leaders will not bomb Mecca tomorrow (and why not? did they object to bombing Berlin?), what we citizens can do is to “insult” Muslims by telling the truth about their “perfect man,” Mo. Muslims should be ashamed of their religion. If we can’t manage that, we can at least feel free to treat them for what they are: followers of the Meccan Hitler.

sk on November 26, 2009 at 1:51 pm

Isn’t a group trying to bridge the divides between different faiths a good thing?

Showing Muslims, Jews and Christians can get along despite what there interpretation of which profit is the most important has got to be positive.

How else do you propose we deal with fanatics of these religions?
