Watching The Oprah Sarah Palin Interview; Palin Shameless Suck-Up / “Inspired” by Oprah

By Debbie Schlussel

**** SCROLL DOWN FOR UPDATE ****

So, I’m watching the Sarah Palin interview with Oprah, promoting Palin’s book, “Going Rogue: An American Life.”  And just as I predicted last week, Oprah is handling her with kid gloves, greeting her with a warm embrace and giving her softball questions, which she’s hitting out of the park.  It’s a win-win for both of them, as I also predicted last week.

oprahsarahpalin

It’s really much ado about nothing. No surprises here.  And really no news.  There’s nothing new here and no new information (other than quite a bit of whining).  It’s just a carefully choreographed kabuki dance by two women who have everything to gain from this and are trying their darnedest not to screw it up.  And they’re succeeding in spades.

A lot more books will be sold, and, unfortunately, a lot of conservative Palinistas will unduly fall for uber-liberal Oprah.

**** UPDATE: So the interview just ended, but before it ended Sarah Palin made a shameless suck up to uber-liberal Oprah, telling her how she was “inspired” by Oprah and “as a working mom” and by “all the obstacles you’ve overcome.” HUH?! Oprah’s a “working mom”? Really? What obstacles? Oprah’s been pandered to and spoiled all her life. Helloooo . . .? “You’re such an inspiration.” Disgusting. Yeah, that’s conservative. Uh-huh.

How very sad. Sarah Palin pulled a Bill O’Reilly with Oprah. So obvious. So fake. So stupid.  Can’t say I’m surprised.

If the TRUE conservative Goddess, Debbie Schlussel, ever went on MT. HOprah then it would be news. Palin should be upset at HOprah and should have challenged her, not play nice. HOprah caused many to vote against McCain and Palin.

if i were sarah palin i wouldn’t give oprah the time of day. oprah wanted nothing to do with her during the campaign because she couldn’t hide her bias for barack obama, which shows that as a talk show host oprah sucks. i wouldn’t even spit on oprah if i were palin i would tell her to kiss my ass and go get her ratings elsewhere. i am sick of people treating oprah like she’s a god. she an ass in my view.

    M: RIGHT ON. DS

marsha on November 16, 2009 at 6:50 pm

Your expectations for this seem unreasonable….its chick tv, of course Oprah isn’t going to ask tough questions. That said, I wish Palin didn’t bother going on the show.

Debbie, on a slightly unrelated not, you gotta start bagging on fat chicks again….I enjoy your acerbic side, as sometimes you can be very funny and makes me smile…reading about muslim zealots blowing people up or making snuff films is a harsh reality and doesn’t make me smile, it makes me angry, so when you make fun of the fatties and ham beasts, it’s a nice respite from the grim headlines of the day

mrbshamrock on November 16, 2009 at 5:59 pm

That Palin does know how to work her legs, though. Black hose is very classy and sexy; doesn’t turn off women, makes men drool.

DS_ROCKS! on November 16, 2009 at 6:05 pm

Hey DS, yeah she can keep on wearing hose and drive the men crazy, and the homely, liberal women with those veiny, dry, ugly looking bare legs that the Sex and The City fad started many years ago!
Sarah looks like a real woman, a throw-back.

Delta George on November 17, 2009 at 2:14 am

EVERYONE kisses up to the “Dirty Beeotch” Oprah. She is just
a despicable beast. Not due to her size, due to her non-stop phonyness. I’ve never been fooled by DB.

The DB is NO workng mom. She ain’t even married. Either she’s protecting her billions from Steadman or just as I suspected, she doesn’t care that he don’t respect her enough to marry her DB arse.

Skunky on November 16, 2009 at 6:19 pm

Republicans and not necessarily conservatives have a need to suck up to the MSM. The media is still very much liberal. To go against the status quo means having to know you will never be validated by those who maintain it.

NormanF on November 16, 2009 at 6:44 pm

On second thought, I will not even comment.

sharon on November 16, 2009 at 8:00 pm

No surprise that Debbie’s nitpicking without suggesting what exactly Oprah SHOULD’VE asked Palin. I saw the whole interview and Palin did a great job. Oprah thanked her for coming on and gave her a compliment towards the end and Sarah simply returned the favor–that’s called being courteous, not sucking up.

MrGreyGhost on November 16, 2009 at 8:21 pm

Yeah MrGreyGhost, that is how I saw it.. It would be like going to someone’s house for Thanksgiving and knocking the cooking.. Just is not done. Not if your an individual with any kind of manners. Like Oprah or not, she is to be commended for her role in life and what she has been able to achieve.

sharon on November 16, 2009 at 8:30 pm

I have no need to suck up to nobody. They can’t tell me what to think. Hoprah is a cancer on America. I have no need to watch her as I don’t watch Letterman or SNL. Palin just did the interview for brownie points. Wait till she has to get out the boxing gloves on other shows.

Alan V. on November 16, 2009 at 10:12 pm

Its your usual book tour. Of course Palin says she doesn’t have the White House within her radar. That’s a promise quickly broken and forgotten by an ambitious politician. In that respect, she’s no different from the rest of them.

NormanF on November 16, 2009 at 10:34 pm

All you Oprah haters out there….GET A LIFE! Oprah can interview anybody she wants! She worked hard to get where she is and she could not possibly be as phony as Sarah Palin! Palin lied and whined and obviously forgot the previous lies she told during the campaign as if everyone else forgot! Oprah is in the position she is on her own merit…whereas Sarah got there by ‘writing’ a book to sucker in all the Republicans that are buying it! Please! Listening to her vocabulary and her conversations there is no possible way she could write a book. I’m sure Oprah has heard all the negative remarks and is laughing all the way to the bank! Love you Oprah!!!!!!

toni smith on November 16, 2009 at 10:50 pm

Toni Smith, your MT. HOprah is the Antichrist.

I don’t watch that phony Oprah anymore.Even though I would have rathered that Sarah didn’t go on the phony Oprah show, I knew she had to go. She is positioning herself to go further. Sarah used Oprah- just like Oprah used Sarah. I repeat I cannot stand Oprah and her hidden agenda.

J: She didn’t “have” to go anywhere. she chose to. She didn’t need to do this. She knew it would be softball and benefit her. And her pandering slobbering over Oprah at the end was truly disgusting and over the top. So obvious. DS

jeffrey on November 17, 2009 at 1:01 am

Palin is doing a lot of Conservative talk radio interviews this
week and next. I would like to see her go on the Michael Savage show-(The Savage Nation). He is number three in talk radio and reaches millions of listeners a week. His audience is mixed, but
mainly Independent Conservatives! I think it would be a very interesting interview.

Delta George on November 17, 2009 at 2:26 am

Don’t hold my good looks against me…please. I am an air head who is good looking…please. I can knock out kids in between my jogging…please. I am stupid, therefore I went to a no name college in someplace called Idaho…please. I won the governorship in that far away cold place called Alaska…please.
I was lucky to give a national political speech that electrified our nation…

You betcha!

Well, I think what message we have, not just for net people, but every people of world is while you’re discussing health care and you’re having this debate, there are people every single day providing quality health care to those people who need it

Doctor Accut on November 17, 2009 at 4:47 am

Oprah has not been pandered to and spoiled all her life. Check out her biography. I was impressed with your Bio here on your site. However, your blog post does not match your supposed level of intelligence. That’s very sad, indeed.

maerion on November 17, 2009 at 4:55 am

maerion I took a look at your blog post…LOOK WHO’S TALKING?!

Bob Porrazzo on November 17, 2009 at 6:32 am

It amazes me how stupid Jesus freak conservatives are. Seriously. Go worship Jesus and don’t try to stress your brain too much. Remember: EVOLUTION IS A SIN!

Winfrey was born into poverty in rural Mississippi to a teenage single mother and later raised in an inner-city Milwaukee neighborhood. She experienced considerable hardship during her childhood, including being raped at the age of nine and becoming pregnant at 14; her son died in infancy.[14] Sent to live with the man she calls her father, a barber in Tennessee, Winfrey landed a job in radio while still in high school and began co-anchoring the local evening news at the age of 19.[15] Her emotional ad-lib delivery eventually got her transferred to the daytime talk show arena, and after boosting a third-rated local Chicago talk show to first place,[7] she launched her own production company and became internationally syndicated.

James on November 17, 2009 at 12:29 pm

Not a bit surprised. It’s 2 phonies using each other.

I’m sure they had a gentleman’s agreement for the interview. DOprah knows Palin will get ratings and interest, Palin promotes her book and campaign.

Typical Republican big tent plan that always, always, always fails. DOprah and her audience will never vote a Republican in office.

Jeff_W on November 17, 2009 at 9:32 am

Palin criticizes Levi Johnston for doing “porn, in her view” yet will do a talk show, that, the very next day (I think), is hosting Jenna Jameson. How seriously can she expect any of us to take her? Her principles are always flying all over the place…

Christopher Hayes on November 17, 2009 at 9:35 am

I don’t watch Oprah for any reason. But I have read the transcript and Palin’s appearance was a BIG BAG OF NOTHING. It appears to me that Palin has decided she wants to make a big pile of money, while keeping her options open for 2012.

I predict she won’t run but will try and become the GOP “king maker” with her large Palintista following. I believe Palin wants to be rich. She is already famous. Palin may be just smart enough to know, she is not smart enough to get elected President of the United States.

Bonzer Wolf on November 17, 2009 at 11:58 am

You have explained the extent of your stupidity. You truly have. OPRAH WAS BORN DIRT POOR AND WAS SEXUALLY ASSAULTED AS A CHILD. You were the one who has been spoiled since birth.

James on November 17, 2009 at 12:26 pm

Didn’t watch the show…why break my record? Did the Big O give away copies of Palin’s book to the studio audience?

I doubt if doing Winfrey sold a single copy of ROGUE. Palin should have told her to go pound Gayle.

Stymie on November 17, 2009 at 12:49 pm

“Painin should have told Oprah to go pound Gayle”

you are one sick bigoted jerk… Tell Christ about your misogyny and hatred of anything different than yourself and your twisted views about what’s ‘normal’.

carl on November 17, 2009 at 6:07 pm

It’s in the best interest of both to engage in mutual “Sucking Up.”

IMO: Ratings and Book Sales have both Sara and Oprah showing us their second face.

In the struggle between money and principles….money too often wins out.

Sam Adams on November 17, 2009 at 2:45 pm

Remember that Oprah attended Jeremiah Wright’s church for a while. She is the biggest fan of Obama and will do his bidding. I believe Oprah had no choice but to interview Palin. Oprah stuck to questions of gossip not serious questions of substance that the tea party conservatives believe in. Palin was polite and respectful. She is a class act.

Sasha on November 17, 2009 at 3:18 pm

Debbie, the silly attacks on Palin have got to end. I thought she looked great and sounded great and the book is selling very well. Enough of your attacks.

JulieJ on November 17, 2009 at 3:36 pm

Debbie Schlussel and her fan club giving Oprah career advice.

The internet is a wonderful thing.

John Meineke on November 17, 2009 at 4:27 pm

Just for balance, Palin was interviewed today (Tues) on Rush for about 1/2 an hour, mostly about policy. I’d give her a B-. She said some good things, but on illegal immigration she copped out. Rush waited until the end to ask her (probably pre-arranged). Palin said it was a problem, and we should follow the lead of some of the border governors. Which ones??? Perry? Schwarzenegger? Although this isn’t worse than any of the other Republican leaders are saying. Health care? She criticized it, but didn’t go into the problem of Socialist redistribution. Of course none of the others do either. And Romney passed a shameful bill in Massachusetts. So the upshot — canned positions on most issues, but not worse than the others. And she can rally the base which is something that will have to be done to save this country. Until someone else does this better, she’s still a top contender to me.

Little Al on November 17, 2009 at 5:21 pm

I couldn’t believe how petty HOprah is to need Palin to praise her and Barack Hussein Obama. Oprah flat out asks Palin to gush on Obamao over the kids being off limits line, and then sets Palin up to give her props or not. I would have gone for the not but then Palin was sitting in her chair on her show so there you go.

FeFe on November 18, 2009 at 9:09 am

Good luck with that! This makes me feel like sending you an email too!

Well,I like Sarah mostly bc she is one gorgeous hot looking woman,I don t think she is strong politically speaking @ the same time I don t dismiss some of her views and her points are valid, even if she may not win new converts, she still has some influence, how long will that last? IDK,but she will always be one good looking…Gorgeous hot looking woman,I bought het book, read it,didn t like some of it,but I still believe she is one sexy momma grissly,in politics Hillary is a virus to our country,if I had to chose a presudent between comrade Hillary or Hilda and Sarah, hell Sarah would not only be my president, she d my queen(mine not the US queen).Hilda is as toxic as the exhaust of a NY city cab, Sarah is like the fresh wind in Alaska. oh and I bought her dvd and the cd to her book,It is part entertainment…
