30 Years Ago Today, Iran Took Americans Hostage; 30 Yrs Later, They Won, We Lost; Quiet Shi’ite Invasion of US Soil

By Debbie Schlussel

Thirty years ago, today, Shi’ite Muslim thugs in Iran overtook the U.S. Embassy and took Americans hostage.  Directed by Ayatollah Khomeini as their guru, they kept these blindfolded Americans hostage for 444 days, while a failed Jimmy Carter rescue attempt resulted in fallen helicopters, Americans beat the Soviets in the Semi-finals of the Lake Placid Olympics, and the Reagan Revolution began. But the Shi’ite Revolution–with far more staying power–also began.

That Was Then . . .

Taken captive on November 4, 1979, they–the hostages–missed a lot.  But while they were ultimately released, in the long term these “revolutionary” Iranian “students” succeeded in spades.  It’s not just that one of the hostage takers–the calculating loon Mahmoud Ahamadinejad–is Iran’s head honcho.  It’s that, far worse, thirty years later, the hostage-takers have friends and supporters living all over America.  And some of those key supporters have been hugged in photo ops by Presidents Bush and Obama.

A Time Magazine cover called it the “Test of Wills,” and showed photos of Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini and Jimmy Carter.  But one is dead and the other is brain-dead and thankfully long gone from office (though he remains on American taxpayer dole while he does Ayatollah’s bidding by proxy from the grave).  It was really a test of America’s will versus Islamic thuggery of the Shi’ite variety.  And in the long-term,  their will is stronger.  Ours extremely weak, to the point that we’ve imported this thuggery to our shores and it has taken over whole American cities.

Here are just a few examples of how we willingly ceded even our own soil to the forces of Khomeini and his poisonous Shi’ism:

You need a caculator to count the number of Muslims in the Detroit are with the first name Khomeini. Guess after whom they are named? And guess to whom their allegiance is? Hint: it’s not to the U.S. And stupid, selfish Americans constantly whine to me that they really don’t want to give up the delicious shawarmeh or tabbouli at their favorite Hezbollah-financing Middle Eastern restaurant. Why take hostages anymore when they watch us doing their bidding for them?

In Dearbornistan and Dearbornistan Heights, imams who are in part funded by Iran spew hate from the podiums at their mosques.  One of those, Imam Mohammed Ali Elahi, was the imam of Ayatollah Khomeini’s Navy and a close protege of his.  Others, such as Imam Husham Al-Husainy (not his real name), have made frequent trips to Iran to take direction from the motherland and have helped Iranian-backed Shi’ites take over Iraq . .  . with OUR tax-funded blessing!  And Elahi and Imam Hassan Qazwini have both feted Hezbollah spiritual leader, Sheikh Mohammed Hussein Fadlallah, the man who ordered the murder of 300 U.S. Marines and Embassy officials in Beirut.  Presidents Bush and Obama eagerly greeted all of these men and their Justice Departments and FBI and Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials regularly pander to them at dinners and gushing town hall meetings.

Yes, our hostages came home.  But along with them, we opened our borders to some of Iran’s most dangerous propagandists and demogogues.  Imam Elahi came here on a tourist visa directly from Iran in the early 1990s.  And we let him in despite his ties to Khomeini.  Then, we granted him a green card and citizenship when he overstayed his visa, despite the fact that he repeatedly lied on immigration forms by omitting his ties to the government of Iran and Ayatollah Khomeini.  We were aware of these ties, but we didn’t care.  What a slap in the face to the Americans who spent over a year held captive by their friends.

carterkhomeinitime

Elahi was deliberately sent here by Iran because that government and Hezbollah felt that the Islamic Center of America, one of the largest Shi’ite mosques in the world (now headed by Qazwini) was becoming too liberal, too Americanized.  And they wanted their “sexy” radicalism back.  Elahi was sent to be the “enforcer.”  And now the enforcer has a regular, anti-Semitic, anti-American column in The Detroit Newsistan, courtesy of its disgusting editorial page editor Nolan Finley (who said he gave him a column because he has a following; so does David Duke, but no column for him).

All three of these imams–Husainy, Elahi, and Qazwini–receive funding from Iran, openly praise Hezbollah and HAMAS terrorist attacks, and have many mosque members who are involved in criminal activity related to Hezbollah, as well as immigration fraud.  Moreover, all three of these men have been feted by Oakland County Sheriff Mike Bouchard and Michigan Attorney General Mike Cox, both leading Republican candidates for Governor of Michigan.

And there are plenty of others like these Khomeini-mentored imams . . . all of whom we welcomed to our shores with far more fanfare than the hostages who were mostly forgotten.

Then there are the Americans connected to the hostage taking.  President Carter, who ushered out the pro-American, Westernized Shah and ushered back in Ayatollah Khomeini from his exile in Paris, is now an icon of the left and the Islamic world, with his many falafel parties with HAMAS and Hezbollah, including Fadlallah, and his anti-Semitic, anti-Israel tomes.  While our hostages were in Iranian hands, Carter was flailing and clueless.  His failed attempts to rescue our hostages were half-hearted.  Had he any cojones–and he didn’t, despite his declarations to Playboy of “lust in my heart”–he’d have bombed the heck out of Tehran.  But he simply didn’t have the guts or the courage.

Instead, America was treated to a new ABC nightly countdown, “America Held Hostage, Day [insert number here],” hosted by an indignant, left-wing blowhard named Ted Koppel.  The show morphed into “Nightline.”  Yes, Ted Koppel–the biased uber-liberal–was one of the winners of the Iranian hostage-taking.  And even today, gone from ABC, he continues to get slobbering promotion from a gushing Sean Vannity on his waste of time radio show.   (That’s “conservative”?  Only if you’re a moron and a fake, both of which Sean Hannity, indeed, is.)

And what happened to the hostages?  Many of them have long since passed away.  One of them, a brave, handsome Marine named Kevin Hermening, ran for Congress in Wisconsin as a conservative Republican.  Sadly, he lost as he got little help from the Grand Old Party in his quest to defeat liberal powerhouse Congressman David Obey.  At the time, I was an intern at the Conservative Political Action Committee and helped a little on his campaign.

Yes, the winners were the hostage-takers:   Thirty years later, they got American boys to give their lives to give them a new Shi’ite satellite state in Iraq.  Let’s hear it for the American “liberators.”  And 30 years later, the hostage takers are stronger than ever.  They control Lebanon because we forced the Israelis out and left, ourselves, with our tail between our legs, after our Marines and embassy were blown to bits by their proxies.  They control Iran.  And they pretty much control Iraq.  Oh, and they control Dearborn and Dearborn Heights, Michigan, with other cities soon to come into their purview.  And they control a former U.S. President who travels the world, jet-setting to spread their propaganda.

The hostages?  They were all of us.  And we lost.  We may not see it in our everyday lives or even in this generation.  But in a future generation, the loss will be extremely painful.  And the cancer will be complete in its metastasis because we let the Ayatollah’s acolytes onto our soil to live and build a foundation of radicalism, feted and celebrated by our top federal officials.

American hostages were freed 29 years ago after they were taken 30 years ago today.  But thirty years later, we’ve welcomed the bondage and we are all hostages.

Too bad most of us are too asleep and concerned with the Octomom and Jon & Kate’s divorce to notice.

No one in the Obama White House is calling attention to today’s anniversary. Come to think of it, previous Administration have also buried it. Ironically, the only place its still officially remembered is in Iran. They remember the hostages they took and the humiliation they inflicted on America but we live it down and are nice to them? No wonder Americans are the world’s Rodney Dangerfields!

Ahmadinejad was not an US Embassy hostage-taker. That fellow you have circled in the photo is Taqi Mohammadi. Ahmadinejad wasn’t involved in the hostage crisis — even the CIA confirmed this. http://www.cnn.com/2005/US/08/12/cia.iranpresident/index.html

And incidentally, Iranians don’t eat shawarmeh or tabbouli.

H: You might wanna try reading more closely. The unreliable Valerie-Plame-dominated CIA (the same agency that screwed up discovery of the 9/11 plot and has been a virtual failure on Iraq and everything else) did NOT say it isn’t him, only that it’s not “likely” him. Sorry, but I rely on the memory of the hostages. And they say it’s him. Since they don’t have the horrible track record of the pan-Islamic CIA and since they were actually the ones taken hostage, I believe them, NOT the CIA. Also, you might wanna check what they eat in Lebanon, since these mosques and imams I speak of are in Dearborn, have mostly Lebanese congregants and eat at Dearbornistan Mid-East restaurants and social gatherings, where the dishes are, in fact, shawarmeh and tabbouli. Nice try on your incorrect corrections. But no cigar. D

Haas – I wouldn’t trust that CNN article for several reasons. If you want just one, look at the bottom where it lists the names of three people who contributed to it.

One of the three has the same last name as someone Debbie mentioned. That is not a coincidence since she (one of the contributors) is his (The person mentioned by Debbie) daughter.

Hass: “Ahmadinejad was not an US Embassy hostage-taker.”

You are hilarious! I believe WHAT I SEE not when CNN tells me to see.

It is he, without a doubt.

Superb post. Thank you for writing it. I agree, the US has been surrendering for 30 years. It is shameful.

Oh and many former hostages espouse a US-Iran engagement. Bruce Laingen, for example.

One former hostage does not equate to ‘MANY’ unless you are trying to prove a point without facts.
Several of the hostages swear for a fact that this photo was Ahmadinejad. I will take a witness as fact over the CIA. And the CIA would never ever put out mis-information now would they. The CIA and the Federal Goverment would be held accountable to the American people if they confirmed this as Ahmadinejad, while any action to incarcerate him would bring World condemnation….kind of like the Nuremburg Trials did with the Grand Mufti for the Final Solution. The West turned their heads to sidestep any actions that would elevate the wrath of Islam.

david on November 4, 2009 at 3:29 pm

The US government has every incentive to conceal the truth. After all “engagement” with Iran won’t go forward if you admit they’re terrorists, kidnappers and rogues from hell. I do believe the witnesses over the CIA.

NormanF on November 4, 2009 at 4:23 pm

Oh geez. So the CIA is part of some massive conspiracy to… what?

The OTHER hostage-takers also say that Ahmadinejad had no role in the event. And these other hostage-takers are no friends of Ahmadinejad.

H: HA! Because Iranian rival terrorist hostage takers are soooo reliable. DS

hass on November 4, 2009 at 4:27 pm

It would require neither a conspiracy or massive anything to issue an Official statement that would be in the best interest of National Security and/or Foreign Policy.

I seem to recall that one brave Marine was killed in trying to defend the embassy in Iran.
(Debbie is too young to remember that !!)

Mock-Mood I’m-A-Dummy-Nut-Job should have been arrested as a war criminal when he set foot in the USA.

We could have executed him and then had a fair trial…..

These same UN nutjobs would have invited Hitler and gave him the standing clap also.I know! Ovation,Just a lttle clever? Who is protecting the musnuts in the northern us state of iran? For some reason the area where i live seems to have fewer Convience store owners than we used to. Seems to be more non musnut owners? I think they are massing in queerbornstan, Michigone.

The US did not beat the Soviet Union in the semifinals of the Lake Placid Olympics in 1980. They beat them in a group match.
They top 4 teams decided the medals in a pool play, not in an elimination round.

Debbie your a lawyer, I definitely am not. I feel in my gut that the main reason the president is hiding his past is because of demonstrations AGAINST America he has taken part in. Birth Cert and all of that aside, is there not a requirement in the constitution that states you cannot be president for anti American behavior? I feel it in my gut.. I also believe that is why he uses the teleprompter so effectively. So as not to go off script and inadvertently say what he really means….I feel it in my gut I tell you. He is a Jew hater

Please, She was about to have a nervous fit as she signed that waste of paper! Thanks!

mike c on November 5, 2009 at 2:26 pm

But why should we go out of our way to commemorate that sad event, Debbie? Do we have a special day to remember the other American hostages, the shameful internment of loyal citizens born and educated here after Pearl Harbor?

A few mostly white diplomats got messed up by the Ayatollah, and the country reacted as if Jesus Christ had been crucified again. Yet at the same time, the Atlanta child murders were going on. I recall many whites openly expressing delight. One graffito on a college desk read:”Go down to Atlanta for the summer vacation and help to kill n—-ers.”

Ayatollah Khomeini himself was a monster, and I hope the Iranian regime gets toppled. But “that’s all history now.”Isn’t that what white conservatives lecture us when we complain of past injustices?

Vivek Golikeri on March 14, 2010 at 2:00 pm

Over two hundred persons have spent so many years in jails until fresh evidence proved they had been wrongly convicted. Big deal, what is 444 days in Iranian captivity compared to someone who last lost sometimes ten or twenty years for something they never did?

I am sick of all the fuss the media and society made over a few embassy staff while much greater wrongs against much larger numbers of other Americans received hardly anywhere the same concern back then.
