Story of the Week: Husband on Strike

By
Is Detroit-area husband, James Wilson, the male Gloria Steinem/Betty Friedan?
Could be. He’s the “Husband on Strike” and self-appointed President of the “National Association of Desperate Husbands.”
Wilson of Redford, Michigan is throwing feminist tactics in their face. He’s tired of his wife keeping their kids in his and his wife’s bedroom . . . and bed. So he’s gone on strike for a week, camping out on his roof.
The striking husband has started a blog, a petition, and been profiled in both the Detroit Free Press and on Detroit’s NBC affiliate by our friend, intrepid reporter Roger Weber.

James Wilson is the Husband on Strike

Wilson says he was frustrated, so:

I went on strike – and moved to the roof of our home.
This is my last-ditch effort! . . .
I’m on strike from all things marriage related when I’m on the roof, in the backyard or living in the garage. . . .
My goal is to also send a message to wives everywhere that:”Husbands have feeling too”.

What the heck? This problem they cannot fix? Is this the way to work on your marriage? If my husband were THIS unhappy, well, for one, I wouldn’t let it get this far, and for two, work out an adult compromise. But that’s just me.

I hope his cat doesn’t fall off the roof. At least he brought his boombox to listen to Michael Bolton and Cher CDs.

Jeff_W: Too good, you said it all.

Why doesn’t he just come down and enjoy his wife and children
and help take care of his 2 yr.old and baby. What a selfish husband and father. Be a man! Why have the children if it frustrates him with the amount of time it takes to care for them.

What he really needs to do is put his foot down and tell his two year old that he has to sleep in his own bedroom. Sometimes you just have to man up and be a responsible parent. You have to be firm or else your kids are always going to want their way.
As for their baby, under no circumstances should his wife be letting their 3 month old falling asleep in bed with her. That’s just dangerous and dumb. A kid that young needs to be in a crib.

You know Arty, if you took time to watch the video clip, the baby is not sleeping in the bed, she is sleeping in a co-sleeper next to the bed, designed just for a baby to sleep close to the parents. Babies get up many times in the night and this is such a better way to handle it then going down the hall to a different room. Especially if you don’t have the other parent helping, which I suspect she doesn’t.
I think this man is very self centered, come on, did you really think having two kids would not change YOU coming first? Sorry your sex life is not what it used to be, join the club, it’s called being a parent! I know husbands have feelings, but I would hope you understand that mothers have feelings and this one wants her kids near her, so suck it up! I’m sure you were in on the decision to have them in the first place!

Hey James, don’t be a pussy, dump the old lady, get a divorce lawyer, let her have the house so you won’t have to pay vaginamony, do the responsible thing and pay child support and go banging around. Waa, the wife’s keeping their kids in his and his wife’s bedroom . . . and bed. Waa, I got to strike, waa,…stop being a pussy and leave! Goddamn, I hate men who are pussies. If the broad was like that in the beginning of the marriage, why did you marry her? Why did you have kids? Stupidity? This is why I hate liberals, the bitches try to snip our balls off, at least the conservative wives know how to treat their men! I work, she works at home. Voila! Oh and Mr Wilson? On Thursday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. PST, listen to: http://971freefm.com/ to Tom Leykis’ Leykis 101, learn it and grow a pair. When you’ve grown a pair, call in and tell the boys the new found freedom. Until then? get off the roof and live in your garage…you pussy.

I’m assuming you’re responding to me Folick, not Arty. I haven’t watched the video clip. I was only going by what it said in the article (the Free Press one). They made it sound like the baby was in the bed with her.
I didn’t even open the Detroit Spews one to notice there was a video, but videos don’t run so well on my machine so I’ll just take your word for it. But still, I think my comments still apply.

This the most deturbing thing I’ve seen in a long time!! It is proven that co-sleeping is not only an easier way to breastfeed but it also helps the children bond to thier parents. Furthermore, it may be linked to higher IQ’s and better ajusted adults. 150 years ago we didn’t have the luxury of multiple bedrooms, and we’re all a better people for it! As far as I can tell Mr. Wilson needs to broaden his intamcy play places and share his bed, instead of denighing his children what extra few hours they have with him before he’s back off to work.
