What Should I Ask Drew Barrymore?

By Debbie Schlussel

Will be posting a few things about the 8th anniversary of 9/11 soon, but in the meantime, I need your advice.

I’m scheduled to interview actress Drew Barrymore, this afternoon.  What should I ask her?  Please post your suggestions in the comments section.

Thanks!  Yes, she’s liberal.  I know.  And yes, I recall her lifting her shirt on Letterman and posing for Playboy.

Why did she give Tom Green Cancer of the Schmeckle?

Yiddish Steel on September 11, 2009 at 11:36 am

Depends. Why are you interviewing her?

D: She made a movie, “Whip It,” in Michigan. DS

Dan on September 11, 2009 at 11:36 am

She lifted her blouse and flashed her breasts on Letterman. I suggest you keep to the movie…putting her on the defensive with politics serves no purpose…she is too vapid to bother with…

Bigrich104 on September 11, 2009 at 11:56 am

Look what Sharon Stone has done and she’s considered one of the smartest actors in Hollywood.

Rollie Robinson on September 11, 2009 at 12:05 pm

Ask her how it is possible for a woman to be so hot.
As a matter of fact, Deb, you should also be asked that question.

bob lane on September 11, 2009 at 12:00 pm

Ask her , as a liberal, if she agrees with those such as
Oliver Stone and Sean Penn that find dictators and cummunists
so politically attractive and why? Since they, the Hollywood community, would not have the freedom in their profession
they now enjoy should they be under those same dictators control.

Rollie Robinson on September 11, 2009 at 12:02 pm

How about asking her what positions she supports related to the Obama agenda?

Jarhead on September 11, 2009 at 12:09 pm

Debbie,

As this is September 11th, ask her about what she was doing on this date 2001, and how this event changed her life, if it did.

Fritzi Roth on September 11, 2009 at 12:12 pm

Tell her from this other Michigander it doesn’t matter to me what she is.

She’s still a hot babe.

Steve Harkonnen on September 11, 2009 at 12:13 pm

Ask her what she thinks of Michigan

sharon on September 11, 2009 at 12:31 pm

Ask her if she sees any parallels in the movies of today compared with those of when her grandfather played some great roles in the last depression.

Michael P. Sakowski on September 11, 2009 at 12:34 pm

Ask her why she chose to do this movie.

Kelly on September 11, 2009 at 12:35 pm

I love Drew and admire her overcoming childhood and demons. I believe she has recently been engaging in protests of prop 8 (?) in California. I would ask if/why she approves of the tactics used after the vote in California of gay community (going into churches, etc.).

Cindy on September 11, 2009 at 12:52 pm

Yeah, remind the bitch that California’s Prop 8 passed in a fair and legal vote, DESPITE her side spending more money. So Drew, how is paying for the consequences of one’s actions “so wrong”–those actions being forging your whole identity on sexual acting out? And why do we have to fight to push the normalization of sexual acting out into the mainstream? Why should we overturn a fair a legal vote–a second time–simply because your damn feelings were hurt?

Then remind her that every important civil rights issue was decided by the courts and not by a vote, so that “civil rights” comparison is invalid.

Sorry, Deb. Hope you can phrase the questions better than I wrote them.

The Razor on September 11, 2009 at 12:53 pm

The basic problem is that, even though your movie reviews are highly influential now, you are far too serious a person to make idle chit-chat with DB.

I think the most productive approach would be to engage her in a conversation about cultural matters, especially the impact of Hollywood’s cultural messages on the development of both boys and girls.

adam on September 11, 2009 at 12:55 pm

what would E.T. do?

Noah David Simon on September 11, 2009 at 12:56 pm

Ask her how much longer she plans to string Justin Long along.

Christopher Calandro on September 11, 2009 at 1:08 pm

How come you never post your interviews with celebrities. I’d love to read them.

Matthew on September 11, 2009 at 1:15 pm

WHIP IT! stars a member of Saturday Night Live. Will Barrymore be hosting the show in October?

WHIP IT! takes place in Austin, Texas (where I live). Did she film in Austin? How does she like Texas? Does she realize that Texas has no personal income taxes? Why not move here, maybe next to Sandra Bullock?

Barry Popik on September 11, 2009 at 1:41 pm

Do you HAVE to interview this bimbo?

Ask her if she loves her country.
Ask her how much of her income she shelters and does she pay taxes like the rest of us do.

lexi on September 11, 2009 at 1:45 pm

Ask her what she thinks of Jihadis? Does she support the views of Fatboy moore? Who does she think the proceeds od drug taking support?

cando on September 11, 2009 at 1:47 pm

Why do liberals want anyones hard earned money to go to those who don’t earn it? Ever hear the fable about “give a man a fish, you feed him for a day. Teach him to fish and feed him for life”? Why do you think by giving something “free” to people will it feed them for life?

By the way, did you know republicans are far more generous with giving than the democrats, who claim the mantle of “helping the poor”, when the facts are it is the republicans who donate far more.

Dan Thornton on September 11, 2009 at 1:55 pm

Yes.

Ask her if she’ll marry me.

(…..waiting patiently for answer….)

guitarguy on September 11, 2009 at 1:56 pm

Debbie Ask her about her Philanthropy dedication to feed to hungry and animal rescue causes ( this from her own web site. Here is a tough one and where she stands on abortion and care of the elderly.

Johnny V on September 11, 2009 at 2:51 pm

Ask the actress how she feels about the day, 9/11. If she bites and gives a libs view, then maybe ask how she feels about the request by the Obama State dept for their peoples to donate to Ramadan breakfasts and then maybe a follow up about the Saudi’s just last week, not allowing Israeli liners to overfly Saudi Arabia because it would ‘contaminate’ Saudi holy sites.

The question then: ‘do you see a problem with this?

Mark Goldberg on September 11, 2009 at 4:58 pm

Please ask her if she thinks there is too much needless violence, death, and destruction in the world today and why.

Ramjordan on September 11, 2009 at 5:57 pm

By what methods would she attempt to narrow the divide between radical Islam and the civilized world?

baseboru on September 11, 2009 at 5:58 pm

I agree with the guy who suggests asking her opinion on Hollywood films and also pop culture in general on American youth….If time permits, go HowardStern on her and ask things like “how many inches in a yard”, “name the 57th state”, and
“Biden’s first name”….

Mark on September 11, 2009 at 6:08 pm

ask her what she thinks of fidel castro… how much does she hate bush… ask her when the worlds’ countries will like america again (big frowny face when you ask this question)… does she have any plans to convert to islam (big perky face for this one, obviously)… and lastly, ask her why jews cause all of the wrolds’ problems and could she maybe speak to the worlds’ jews and ask them to cool it (punch her in the kisser before she can begin to answer)

howard roark on September 11, 2009 at 6:15 pm

ooooooo! also ask her if she’s seen the movie inglorious basterds… if she says no, show her a clip of the scene where brad pitt’s character says, “we ain’t in the nazi capturin’ bidnees… we in the nazi killin’ bidness… and brudder, bidness is uh boomin’!” then, get you repeat the same lines with your best brad pitt impersonation and ask her to do it. just keep doing this back and forth without a single question.

man, that’s a great idea…

“BRING OUT THE BEAR JEW!”

howard roark on September 11, 2009 at 6:24 pm

All those political questions people suggested are no good. Movie stars shouldn’t be asked about their political opinions, or they’ll think their opinions are more valuable than any other random person. Ask her about show biz stuff like what her favorite movie is and why, stuff like that.

Libertarian Bulbasaur on September 11, 2009 at 10:11 pm

You probably have already done the interview but can we see the video? Or at least a transcript. I hope she didn’t cancel. However, I hope you didn’t ask any political questions since she that is not her profession. Even if she was a strident conservative she is still an actor and we don’t need more Hollywood types shaping our politics. Just my two cents. Hopefully for your sake and professionalism it went well.

CaliforniaScreaming on September 11, 2009 at 10:39 pm

Little late, but her cover shot on Marie Claire is disgusting.

Hermster on September 12, 2009 at 12:35 pm

Not the cover pic. Oops one of the ones inside I meant.

Hermster on September 12, 2009 at 12:35 pm

Ask her how she feels about the Jews, of course.

A1 on September 12, 2009 at 8:00 pm

A1, it shouldn’t matter what she thinks about anyone, if she dislike jews then she dislikes jews, its here opinion.

I agree with caliscreaming questions should be non-political, she’s an actress after all.

petehams on September 12, 2009 at 9:09 pm

What beautiful irony. By some commenters’ logic, Drew B.’s opinion is irrelevant because she is an actress. Yet the commenters do not specify why THEIR opinions are more relevant than an actress’ opinion. In fact, it is entirely possible that Ms. Barrymore is MORE able to stay on top of current events, given the many hours, months, even years of non-working time that actors and actresses endure/enjoy. There are a number of actors/actresses that belong to Mensa (the society for people in the top 2% of IQ) and several that graduated from top universities (James Woods comes to mind as someone who did both).

We all get one vote and one mouth – how many people we succeed in persuading is entirely up to us – Ms. Barrymore has attained a high level of success in a highly competitive field, and I salute her accomplishments and her right, as an American citizen, to hold whatever brilliant and bone-head ideas she wishes to believe. Won’t hurt me any to listen to her – and if she’s an idiot, cool, at least she’s good for a laugh.

Signed, an American voter, Mensan, business owner, taxpayer.

Tracy on September 14, 2009 at 10:18 pm

Ask her if she and Keanu Reeves still remember all the lyrics to this ditty from the 1986 made-for-TV movie “Babes In Toyland:

Daniel H on June 3, 2010 at 3:15 pm

“There are a number of actors/actresses that belong to Mensa (the society for people in the top 2% of IQ)”

Yep, like Asia Carrera. And see how stupid she is.
And I’m not even saying that because of her “career” as a porn actress…
Her interviews are as moronic as Matt Damon’s…

Kobi on August 9, 2011 at 11:40 pm

If I may comment more than 2 years later…why would you interview someone on a movie you thought was a ‘waste of time’
(referring to your review http://www.debbieschlussel.com/9910/weekend-box-office-anti-religion-invention-of-lying-awesome-zombieland-butch-feminist-whip-it-mikey-moore-agit-prop/ )
Though I’m sure you kissed a-s thoroughly
