Trump’s Joint Session Speech His Best Ever But Hints @ Liberal Policy, Dems’ Conduct Embarrassing

By Debbie Schlussel

Follow Me On Twitter . . .

President Donald Trump’s speech to a joint session of Congress, last night, was his best speech ever. But there were hints–and even outright suggestions–at liberal policy. But on the other side of the aisle, the Democrats’ behavior was embarrassing and shameful.

Donald Trump did what he needed to do last night. He stuck largely to the script, and he hit his speech outta the ballpark. It was the Trump many of us hoped for when we voted for him. He was very Presidential, patriotic, and he asked Americans to dream and believe. His speech still hewed to his campaign themes of reclaiming American jobs and keeping them here as well as stricter immigration enforcement.

And his speech was moving, with the touching tribute to William Ryan Owens and the tears of his widow, Carryn, who sat with the Trump women in the House gallery. We could all feel her tears, and they moved me, at least, to tear up, too. Her husband’s service and the loss were palpable in that moment. Since her father-in-law has been a vocal critic of Trump, it will be an interesting Thanksgiving for them, this year, to be sure.

Trump’s speech was largely positive, speaking of an improved and better America with more tax cuts and jobs, more American-made products, and better national security. It was a mix of Reaganesque words and optimism, but also Trumpian protectionism.

Trump mentioned “radical Islamic terrorism,” something the media predicted he’d drop, because his new politically-correct National Security Adviser, Army Lt. Gen. H.R. McMaster, is against its use. But he used it anyway, a great contrast with Islamapologist Barack Obama. But, in truth, even that phrase–as I’ve noted repeatedly on this site–is politically correct. The problem is Islam, period. Islam is inherently radical and it–by definition–promotes and endorses terrorism. Islam equals jihad. Find me some non-Sufi mosques in America whose imams will openly condemn HAMAS AND Hezbollah. Good luck with that, bro.

I cringed at Trump’s repeat embrace of liberal Ivanka’s paid family leave policy, as I did when she announced it in her speech to the Republican National Convention, last summer. That’s a giant, crushing, destructive tax on businesses, and if Trump truly wants to cut taxes, he’ll cut that rhetoric. Sadly, liberal Ivanka has his ear, and the boycott of her products has endeared her to conservatives, even though–again–she’s LIBERAL. And now we know she helped write the speech.

And then there were the Democrats. If you watched the speech and the gushing coverage of the ugly chicks in White, you were probably as annoyed as I was. It was juvenile. Um, hello, this wasn’t a costume party or P-Diddy’s White Party. It was Congress. Grow up, girls (an assumption on my part, as only your gynecologist knows for sure what you actually are, since you’re the party of trans bathrooms and trans high school girls wrestling). These women in White didn’t look like suffragettes. They looked like the Ladies Auxiliary of the Klan who took off their white hoods for the comfort of the after-party.

The several Congresschicks who did the constant “thumbs down” during the speech looked like children. Not classy. Not adult. Not Congressional. Not even close. But no faux-outrage a la Kellyanne’s pose on the Oval Office couch, because all things go for liberal Democrats . . . especially if they’re chicks.

I noticed when the Democrats didn’t stand up or even applaud during the Trump speech. First, they didn’t applaud when the President said he’d appoint judges who’d uphold the Constitution. I guess these Congressional Dems–who swore to uphold the Constitution of the United States–when they were inducted into Congress, didn’t really mean it. I also guess they don’t support the Constitution.

I also noted that the Dems didn’t stand up or clap when Trump called for destroying ISIS. Um, are they supporters of ISIS? With many of them, this isn’t a sarcastic or rhetorical question. It’s a legitimate one. With Keith Ellison, Andre Carson, Nancy Pelostic Surgery, and many others, we can’t really be sure they oppose ISIS.

Trump called for the Muslim nations to help us fight off ISIS. Good luck with that. The Sunni Gulf States–our closest “allies” among Muslim nations–were financing ISIS. And they haven’t lifted a finger to fight it off. Shi’ite Iran, Syria, and Lebanon only fight ISIS because it is Sunni, and they favor Shi’ite Hezbollah, which ain’t much of an improvement. Hezbollah murdered many, many more Americans than ISIS ever did.

The Dems didn’t even stand up for or applaud when Trump called for that Ivanka socialism–the paid family leave and paid leave for women. This is part of their agenda. A big part of it. But they didn’t cheer it because they are so doctrinaire in their liberalism that they can’t support a non-doctrinaire neophyte Republican Prez when he embraces their agenda.

As for their response, I’m glad they opened up the crypt and trotted out that old ex-Guv from Kentucky. Can’t remember a thing he said because none of it was memorable, it sounded like an endless whine, and I wondered how a red state like Kentucky would elect a Democrat like this dude. Nothing he said would top Trump’s speech. So, it didn’t matter.

I’m also glad Trump showed a Black American and mother and daughter who are victims of the illegal alien invasion. Minorities and women–it could be argued–are the biggest victims of the lack of immigration enforcement. Illegal aliens steal jobs from inner city minorities and lower their wages. And they kill and rape women and children. While we’re all victims of this invasion, it was good PR to show those three victims sitting in the gallery. Drive the message home that liberals aren’t helping their self-proclaimed constituencies by opening the floodgates of America wide and far. The Democrats even had the gall to boo when Trump announced that a division of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) would be dedicated to these victims of illegal aliens.

I was troubled by Trump opening up the door to “immigration reform,” which is code for amnesty. I hope he was just paying it lip service. We’ll see. Will he do his stricter immigration enforcement for a few months or a year and then start opening the floodgates. Let’s hope not. But the hints were there. And we must be vigilant and hold his feet to the fire to keep his campaign promises on this.

Overall, I think the speech went very far in showing the world that–despite media attempts to portray him otherwise–Donald Trump can be and is very Presidential. That he’s focused. And that he has a specific agenda he’s set on implementing.

And Navy SEAL Ryan Owens should be proud. His wife’s emotional look up to the Heavens was the moment of the speech–the most memorable of any Presidential speech to Congress. We won’t forget it or his service.

Maybe, just maybe, all these Democratic women dressed in virginal white dresses were trying out for positions as the 72 virgins promised to Muslim murderers.

MS: Ha. Since many of them match Helen tHAMAS in the “sexiness” category, they definitely could be candidates for one of the 72 Helen Thomases. DS

Hi Dear Debbie i missed the speech but i trust your words from all my heart! Thanks for sharing Dear Debbie!Thank God i am a proud Republican Conservative who loves President Ronald Reagan!Trully yours with Respect! Tirdad Gharib!

TIRDAD GHARIB on March 1, 2017 at 10:12 am

Two words about Debbie’s points come to mind when examining President Trump’s speech: proportion and perspective. This is what should be applied in every instance. Especially given Ivanka’s influence as Debbie had noted.

And how many of those Congresschicks in that picture looked like they’d just stepped out of the emperor’s box at the Colosseum in Rome, given their “thumbs-down’s”?

Concerned Patriot on March 1, 2017 at 10:31 am

Tuned into the FNC last night and watched the speech. You’re right Debbie it was by far President Trump’s best one. His delivery was spot on and he looked Presidential. I did cringe a little bit too when he talked about paid family leave but I liked it when he mentioned CPO SEAL William Ryan Owens and his wife. It made me sad a mad at the same time. Sad that she lost her husband and that she cried as she looked up to where he’s at now. It made me hopping mad that the leftwads in the media who think that a seal is only the name of an animal disparage military service and call these brave men cowards. They have no idea what it takes to be one of these highly trained operators and it was an honor for me to be in the company of them. Speaking of the leftwad brain dead. The conduct of the ones at the speech was just pathetic. These are the morons who help craft bills that affect our lives. The rudeness and pettiness was just childish. Even before the speech you had dullards the Hag Face Twins Piglousy and Muddy Waters screeching how Trump should be impeached. Then you have the libtards in the press like cake boy Don Lemon at the Clinton News Network barking the same nonsense. Funny I don’t remember this bunch of dimwits getting all we weed up when Obama gave his first speech in Congress. Oh that’s right not only is he Black he’s a Democrat. Any thing said, done, thought of etc bad about that doofus and you were called the dreaded R word. The President for his part unlike cowards McCain McConnell and GWB doesn’t give a rip about what they the left thinks. He knows that all he has to do is follow up on what he said in his speech. He also knows that with leaders like Pelosi, Waters and Schumer in charge along with how the crybabies acted last night will ensure 4 more years of him in office.

Ken B on March 1, 2017 at 12:03 pm

I think another warning sign regarding Trump and the ultimate direction of his agenda is that arch-leftist Van Jones on CNN – the same Van Jones whose anti-cop crusade helped birth the pro-criminal, pro-jihad “Black Lives Matter” movement, and who has been tied at the hip to Obama for years – praised The Donald’s speech. But – as Debbie keeps saying – we’ll see. And watch closely like a hawk.

Concerned Patriot on March 1, 2017 at 12:36 pm

What Kellyanne did is not something I would appreciate seeing a guest do in my house. I would note the activity, keep silent, and do my Felix Unger thing after everybody left, during party cleanup.

But going barefoot in public would have gotten her excoriated as well. From comments about the filth on the bottom of her shoes, it would have moved over to comments about what kind of disease she may have spread by doing the move barefoot.

Also, chicks are generally more flexible than guys, and can suddenly take on positions that are more comfortable for some activities, although those positions can look funny sometimes. She gets 5-10 demerits for what she did, that’s it. Let’s move on.

Oh!!! One more thing. Prior to moving on, let’s all have a moment of silence for the AT LEAST ONE TIME that former “president” Barack Milhous Hussein Benito Obama put his feet on the Oval Office desk. 500 demerits for THAT one.

Right, the Democrats support ISIS in my opinion. After all, ISIS just needs jobs.

The Democrats are all for the Halalization of Amerika, enablers, every last one. Enabling us all to a nuclear holocaust. After all, we deserve it, for what we did to Japan and the American Indians. Remember what Reverend Wright said, “America’s CHICKENSSSSS!!! . . .

coming HOME, . . .

to roost.”

Right, the Democrats don’t support the Constitution. Plenty of athletic supporters in that contingent, but not Constitutional.

Ken B is hilarious.

Alfredo from Puerto Rico on March 1, 2017 at 12:49 pm

I’m against amnesty.

But a merit-based immigration system is sensible.

Nowadays, we let in people with no skills or low skills who contribute nothing to the country and become a public charge.

Good luck with that because illegal aliens and Muslims are Democratic constituencies and many Republicans sadly pander to the same.

The reforms we need aren’t likely to happen but its about time someone like our President brought them up.

He’s the adult in the room and the rest of Washington are children with a short temper tantrum. Great SOTU address last night, even with reservations about parts of it.

NormanF on March 1, 2017 at 12:56 pm

The Democratic Party wants a permanent underclass that will always be dependent upon them.

    Worry01 on March 1, 2017 at 5:17 pm

Debbie,

Thanks for your critique.

For me it has been a long eight years when a US President has talked mostly about himself (I this and I that) and how great he is and about the country, how bad it is and how bad the white people are. Because of this brainwashing experience this seemed like a good speech.

My jury is still out on Trump. We have not seen repeal of Obamacare, even though Republicans sent a bill to Obama which he vetoed, tax reductions on individuals (three brackets??) and a start of construction on the “wall”. That is just three I can remember. So here I sit waiting for the stuff he talked about before he got elected to happen, and listen to a speech telling us the same stuff that has not happened is going to happen. I am also waiting for some national emergency demanding extreme interventions and expansion of the government, to cast a political shadow such that none of the stuff he promised ever gets off the ground. Sorry, but at my age I have seen the good, the bad and the ugly of politics in this country. When the going gets tough for politicians they raise our taxes to address the (fill in the blank) threat. From the Great Depression to Zika. The founders knew about this political BS because they were living it at the time they wrote the DOI and the USC. In line with this, I think it is time for an Article 5 convention to address the out of control government. But that is not on Trumps agenda.

Really, the most offensive thing about the congressional women in white was their mocking of the Cuban Women in White who have courageously and heroically protested the tyranny of Castro. I’m sure this was an intentional mocking, since some of these women in Congress are undoubtedly aware of the long-suffering Women in White in Cuba.

While I agree with your comments about the speech, I have to recognize that the overwhelming majority of the Cabinet appointees represent a concession to the Republican Establishment.

Perhaps the most cynical ploy is Nikki Haley. She is an affirmative-action lightweight who knows little about diplomacy. It is hard to disagree with her comments about the UN, but they are diversionary and disingenuous.

We should really be figuring out how to first defund the UN, and then how to exit from the UN, and send them on their way. I have yet to see the ‘good work’ this bloated criminal, pro-terrorist bureaucracy does. Their main activity, other than attacking Israel, seems to be the promotion of the climate-change scam. But the ‘conservative media’ is either part of the liberal never-Trump group, or else supports Trump uncritically.

So while he is certainly an improvement over our recent Presidents, and has certainly done a number of constructive things, there are a number of limitations and caveats that we need to recognize.

Little Al on March 1, 2017 at 2:37 pm

And I think Trump’s fundamental strategy is to appease his critics rather than to really confront them. Yes, he hurls invective at the press and some Dems, but they are an easy target.

He said in his speech that people will be won over by his accomplishments. No they won’t. Every Republican says that, and it never works, and I don’t think they really believe it.

His first mistake was giving Hillary a de facto pardon. Of course no ‘healing’ took place, and the ‘pardon’ just emboldened all of them. Also, coupled with the President’s lack of any serious follow-up against the lawbreakers in the cities, on the streets and on the campuses, they feel they can get away with anything, even the irresponsible behavior yesterday.

If Hillary had been charged, and a few of the liberals investigated for subversive and anti-American ties, as happened in the late 40s and early 50s, I am sure that this childish drama would soon end.

Little Al on March 1, 2017 at 2:59 pm

Little Al: Don’t think the conservative media is “uncritical” of Trump, more likely just happy not to have Obongo in office, finally, with that joy carrying over into a sort of “honeymoon” for the new guy. Could not agree with you more on the U.N. — long since time to get the hell out, and get them the hell out of New York (Zimbabwe would be a great place for these idiots to hold their “meetings,” i.e., their circle-jerks. If not there, North Korea would be suitable).

jc15 on March 1, 2017 at 3:09 pm

Well Ms. Schlussel, I didn’t see the speech on television, I was a little busy watching sports, irrespective though, I saw the President’s speech on “YouTube”, and yes, it was his best, speaking of the late Ronald Reagan (RIP Mr. Reagan, may your spirit reincarnate back to life as another person in the near future), I was a little grade-school child during Reagan’s years as our president, I wasn’t involved in politics back in the 1980s as a little boy, but I saw some news-coverage of President Reagan, and the media back then from what I remembered wasn’t too harsh on him like how they are on Trump (and Bush Jr.)?

Trump was right to mention “Radical Islamic terrorists”, he’s right, but by nature, Islam as a religion is radical, and we’ll see what his treatise-inquiries notwithstanding to eradicate ISIS-terrorists from our evolved humanity stems to, but I hope it’s not of a warmongering sequence? Trump’s next agenda should correlate to “economics”, of him cutting back on corporate-taxation’s, where in the past, both political parties had agreed to increase the nation’s corporate-tax by a certain percentage, where essentially jobs were forced to being outsourced from this country to other countries on earth. And with corporate-taxes being cut, those jobs that were outsourced will comeback to this country, and the unemployment rate will decline a big percentage.

And to the Democrats, I think that they’re finished and will NOT win anymore elections on a national perspective for the next 30-60 years, and it has to do with their asinine and paradoxical behavior. The Democrat party is not the party of we the American people, they’re the party of: postmodernism, social-justice-warriors, identity-politics, cultural and moral-relativism, cultural-appropriation, utopianism, etc. This insofar will give a chance for the “Libertarian party” to make its evolution as a national political party (and I don’t mean the Ron Paul or the Gary Johnson of 2016 types, at least the Gary Johnson from 2012 the Libertarians can be, where Johnson in 2012 sounded a little like Donald Trump on policy issues)!

From Her pic KellyAnn looks fun. Forgive me I digress, ok, regarding jthe speech, I’ve heard critique that he exploited the wife of the fallen soldier. I think people who think that are fools. Was it not the libs who said it was a wasteful mission? Trump did right by acknowledging him. A damn good decision. Did the Dems stand up when he acknowledged that sista who is about to get her masters in social work? Dems are garbage.

Interesting how many of those who went after Ms. Conway over how she was seated on the Oval Office couch, had lectured everyone else about how “sexist” and “misogynistic” it was to criticize Hillary and question her health during last year’s campaign. (Not just the points about: a) Obama propping his feet up on the Oval Office desk, and more significantly b) Bill Clinton and Monica Lewinsky and the Oval Office blowjob.)

Concerned Patriot on March 1, 2017 at 7:43 pm

Like you, I noticed all the moments that the Dems just refused to stand – and all of them were not moments of the red meat. They were pro ISIS, anti women’s opportunities, anti VOICE, even anti infrastructure.

The thing that struck me today – in the aftermath of his recognition of Owens – was the hatred on the Left, be it Michael Moore, Bill Meher, Kathy Griffin and worst of all, the guy who called Carryn Owens an idiot on Twitter and got fired by his station. They’ve pretty much written TV spots that can be run in elections 2 years from now, even if they are the lowly lowlife Leftist grassroots.

In regard to Sufism, many Sufis, past and present, were and are wholly supportive of jihad and the subjugation of nonbelievers. Al-Ghazali, for example, a famous medieval Sufi, was an ardent believer in Islam’s jihad imperative. There are many contemporary Sufis who also uphold jihad as obligatory for Believers. ALL varieties of Islam are malevolent.

C: I’m well aware of that and have noted it on this site in the past. However, you can find many Sufi mosques that openly condemn HAMAS and Hezbollah, which is why I asked for non-Sufi mosques, as many Sufi mosques in the U.S. are entirely moderate and bear little relation to actual Islam. DS

We don’t need immigration reform. We need immigration enforcement. The laws and procedures already on the books are all we need. The wall has already been authorized under W. Bush. He did nothing about it. Have we all forgotten that? Just enforce the %$#@ law!

TOMMY THOMAS on March 2, 2017 at 1:36 am

Indeed “radical” is a politically correct qualifier invented by the media. In the same way as George Zimmerman was a “white” Hispanic. If anything they’re the “true believers” of Islam doing exactly what the Koran dictates.

bill craig on March 2, 2017 at 2:46 am

Not to get off topic but did you guys hear the latest about the Biden family. That’s what I call keeping it in the family…LOL!

Ken B on March 2, 2017 at 7:16 am

The last guy I was referring to in my comment above was Dan Grilo – who called Carryn an idiot and lost his job. He should take up volunteering for Michael Moore and the other Leftards of his ilk.

On the demand that mosques condemn Hamas & Hizbullah, given the practice of taquiyya, I wouldn’t put it past them to lie. Yeah, they claim that only Shias do it, but I’ve seen a term – madirat – used to describe the Sunni equivalent of that. So I agree w/ commonsense above: Sufis are just as lethal. The Chechen insurrection in Russia, which gave us the Tsarnaevs, was Sufi jihadist, as is the Kashmir one in India.

Infidel on March 2, 2017 at 11:19 am

I think I have figured out why libs are embracing Islam, (at least ONE of the reasons), they (libs) don’t think that shariah will apply to them. They (libs) mistakenly believe that muslims will only expect other muslims to comply with shariah. WRONG! And won’t they be in for a surprise when heads start to roll! To late then.

TOMMY THOMAS on March 3, 2017 at 6:32 pm

Libtards mistakenly believe that no law applies to them, period.
Sooner or later it all catches up.
I would almost feel sorry for them if Sharia law ever did.
