Kelly Ripa Said WHAT?! Clueless, Tone-Deaf Obama-Lovin’ Brat

By Debbie Schlussel

1EF1333E

Is it just me . . . or are you tired of hearing about insensitive, fabulously-rich Kelly Ripa and her unprofessional whining and feuding, while millions of Americans are out of work and/or struggling to pay ObamaCare? And did you hear what she said? Somebody needs to tell her to STFU and do her cushy job.

Yesterday morning, the media was focused on the most important issue facing Western culture: what “Live With Kelly & Michael” host Kelly Ripa was going to say in her on-air whining rant. And, typical of the limousine-liberal elitist hostess, she delivered a Marie-Antoinette-worthy lecture about how she deserves “respect in the workplace.” Respect in the workplace???!!! Really?! Talk about tone deaf.

Ripa was upset that co-host Michael Strahan was moved by parent company Disney from her show to ABC’s “Good Morning America” full-time and that she didn’t get to know about the decision ahead of time. So what?

While millions of Americans have lost their jobs to illegal aliens and H1-B visa-holders or just plain can’t get a job in the Obamaconomy, Ripa makes $15 million per year, which reports say comes down to $36,500 per hour. I’d say that’s a heckuva lotta “respect in the workplace” for barely lifting a finger. And that’s in addition to the tens of millions per year that she reportedly earns as a spokeschick for Electrolux appliances, Colgate Total, and other products–all of it by virtue of being the hostess of “Live.” While millions of Americans have lost their homes and can’t even make rent on apartments (and struggle to make ObamaCare payments), Ripa lives in a multi-million dollar Manhattan townhouse. And, when she’s not living there, she and her former-stripper husband, Mark Consuelos, live in a multi-million-dollar mansion on the Hamptons.

And this woman who is lucky beyond her wildest dreams and her very scant qualifications is whining about “respect in the workplace”? Is she serious?

On top of all this, it was hilarious to hear Ripa invoke her “bus-driver father” (who was actually a liberal union boss and is now a liberal Democrat official) in lecturing America about how she’s opened “a dialogue [about] respect in the workplace.” Uh, sorry, Kelly, but working a few hours a week (she is at the studio maybe two hours a day and three on Thursday–she doesn’t work on Fridays) is hardly driving a bus. You are not a blue-collar laborer making minimum wage. Or, to paraphrase something a liberal friend of mine once wrote about Michael Moore, “your blue-collar bonhomie is bunk.” Excuuuuuuse me for not buyin’ her phony Norma Rae/Walter P. Reuther act.

Proud high school grad Ripa’s experience that gets her the 15 mill includes a stint as a goth chick on ABC soap opera “All My Children.” And before that, she was in 1-900 phone sex commercials that ran on USA Network (the ads ran when I was in college, studying and trying to make my life better through education).

This woman hit the lottery and should thank her lucky stars. She’s lucky to have a job. “Live With Kelly & Michael” has reportedly lost 50 percent of its audience over the previous year. And parent company Disney has been toying for years with dumping the show and replacing it with a third hour of ABC’s “Good Morning America,” to compete with NBC’s third hour of the “Today” show.

Those of us who have worked for others have all had co-workers who received promotions or lateral moves. And we don’t get a secret heads up from the boss. Nor do we have the right to one. Ripa, just because she’s a celebrity and a multi-millionaire, doesn’t deserve better treatment than us “little people” who don’t summer in the Hamptons and have a full-time facial and skin care staff. ABC and Disney owe her nothing. And yet, she failed to show up for work for several days as part of her immature, unprofessional reaction.

Ripa’s spoiled-brat, poor little rich girl behavior is disgusting. Tacky and gauche. And insensitive to everybody else.

Follow Me on Twitter . . .

So excuse me if I laugh at the whiny Veruca Salt who bitches about “workplace respect.” Americans who used to do backbreaking work to make a buck but were replaced by foreign nationals; White males who are regularly discriminated against and must suffer indignities because they aren’t the preferred “minority”; tens of millions of Americans who’ve lost full-time work because of ObamaCare (Ripa is an Obama fan and supporter) and/or who are struggling to pay ObamaCare premiums–these are the Americans who deserve but haven’t gotten respect in the workplace.

Not some overrated, botoxified, glorified lottery winner who whines that she doesn’t get “respect” for her lucky windfall because she wasn’t privy to some information about a colleague’s promotion.

There’s a reason the overrated Strahan was promoted to full-time hosting and an eight-figure salary at “Good Morning America” and that Ripa wasn’t. GMA has lost half of its 18-34-year-old audience over the last year, and ABC thinks Strahan will help restore the audience. He won’t in my view and he’s a terrible interviewer, host, and “reporter”–the affirmative action emperor wears no clothing. But Strahan is popular in the hip-hop, minority-driven world with which all media is now obsessed. Kelly Ripa isn’t. And she isn’t even so popular anymore with her own audience of retirees and stay-at-home welfare queens who watch daytime TV–that’s why she’s lost half her audience.

Unfortunately, there is no justice for Kelly Ripa in this world. Despite her profligate spending, when Kelly Ripa loses her job (and she will soon–I predict “Live” won’t be on the air in five years), she’ll still presumably have some money left from her show and all her endorsement deals.

And she still won’t have a clue about what “respect in the workplace” means and the Americans who really deserve it . . . none of whom include her.

Like Chicago-based Oprah, “Live” was originally derived from a local TV show on an ABC-owned station (in this case, in New York City) which had been seeking to dethrone Phil Donahue from his perch as Number One morning talk show in his time slot (as he had been in NYC, on WNBC-TV, from 1977 to 1985). In the case of what started out as “The Morning Show” (WABC-TV’s third attempt, after the failed 1970-80 “A.M. New York” and the 1980-83 “Good Morning New York”), it took two years after its 1983 debut – and only after who is known today as Kathie Lee Gifford (who’s now yukking it up with Hoda Kotb weekdays on the late-morning edition of “Today” on NBC) joined the once-ubiquitous and everywhere-you-turn Regis Philbin as his sidekick – to relegate Donahue to #2.

I presume Mr. Philbin (whatever one may think of him) is glad he got out of “Live” when he did, given Ms. Ripa’s recent behavior and statements.

Who watches this daytime garbage anyhow? Both Kelly and that gaptooth idiot are not worth wasting time over.

Uhhhhhh, Debbie, I’ve got to leave where I am and will be away from computers for a few hours. And please be gentle with me, because I’m only The Resident Dumb Blond(e). B-, b-, b-, but, I’m being told by people who tell me they are much more knowledgeable, smarter, astute and perceptive than I, that . . .

the economy is just fine, it’s right wing propaganda to say otherwise. And to stop listening to “talk radio.”

And as for Kelly Ripoff’s father being a bus driver, . . .

did you know John Kasich’s father was a mailman?

Alfredo from Puerto Rico on April 27, 2016 at 5:37 pm

We have record debt, record number of people on food stamps, record low labor participation. It’s not good.

Hillel on April 28, 2016 at 7:35 am

Yes Hillel, I know, 94 million people out of work, 45% don’t pay any federal income tax, 14 million on disability, killing coal, oil, natural gas, the free market in general, etc. But you already know that there are two slap-down responses the left has to those good points you made.

      (i) That’s different; or
(ii) Those are right wing lies.

Don’t forget, everything can always be summed up by the left and their stooges in the media, including ESPN, as a . . .

“Republican witch hunt.” Then there’s the “vast right wing conspiracy” mantra, which will soon be revived as the Hitlary Train goes hurtling toward the presidency.

As for Kelly Ripa, I watched All My Children for the last 29 years it was on TV. I could not watch the last month of the show, but already knew how things would turn out. I believe that teenage Kelly Ripa did a great job as the incorrigible, off the wall, out of control secret daughter of billionaire typhoon Adam Chandler.

Then she left AMC, her acting career ended, and she just became another Hollywood phony. Too bad, because she and Mark met on AMC, and I always felt they were a really cute couple. Plus, they’ve been together forever, which is extremely unusual in Hollywood. But they’re still young enough to see that blown to smithereens some day, also.

Alfredo from Puerto Rico on May 9, 2016 at 8:38 pm

My Mum told me about this brouhaha last week and I was like “so what!!!”. DS’ column nicely articulates what I didn’t put into words.

I liked how DS brought up how Ripa is an Obama-Putin supporter. She had prolly seen it before I sent it to her but I sent DS 2 articles RE: a similarity in the Ripa incident…a well known writer “came out” as being one of the many in the Obama-Putin economy who could not make ends meet (the links to articles are on my Twitter page…just toggle down to see them if interested). I believe this writer is also a Liberal, Obama-Putin supporter so it was rich of him to come “out” in his article but not at all cite the Obama-Putin Economy. Another Libtard site wrote an article about the first article and made sure to take it to this fella because he was a “white” writer who once had it made and now can’t muckle up $400. for an emergency. Liberals eating their own can be seen more and more…especially if you’re a WHITE male…

My point to make this all correlate is that so many, many foolish Libtards voted and propped up Obama-Putin but fail to blame him when he ought to be blamed. All the idiots who couldn’t see what an American-hating, crypto-Commie Marxist (and Crytpo-Moooooooooslim) Obama-Putin was…IT’S THEIR FAULT. It’s way too late to whinge. Especially if you’re not gonna point to the REAL problem. So the Libtards not only mess up this country but now we have to endure them whining about their financial plights.

And look at all the fricken’ morons loving Bernie Sanders. Do you think any of those stunned mullets know what would happen if that whack loser was to be elected President? Oh my gosh, the stupidity that permeates the USA…I am choking on it!

Skunky on April 27, 2016 at 5:45 pm

She is a grossly overpaid celebrity whose existence actually mocks those who work for a living. After this stunt, it is likely that Ripa’s contract will not be renewed when it comes up again.

It is doubtful that Ripa will find a a comparable position, once her present gig ends.

Worry on April 27, 2016 at 5:46 pm

Some commentators at the point of Mr. Strahan’s announcement last week of his departure for GMA – and reports of Ms. Ripa being (to quote a Yiddish phrase) fertutzed over this kerfluffle – noted that his de facto predecessor, Regis Philbin, had pulled the same “blindsiding” stunt when he announced his departure from what was then “Live with Regis and Kelly” in 2011. Only back then we didn’t hear Ms. Ripa pull her effete diva act and lecture everyone about “respect in the workplace.”

ConcernedPatriot on April 27, 2016 at 7:52 pm

Spoiled, disgusting, tacky, gauche and insensitive, sounds like every liberal who ever lived. (and those are their good qualities) Don’t like her. Never did.

Michael Strahan = no talent token who stinks up the airways like he stunk up the football field.

Tommy Thomas on April 27, 2016 at 8:00 pm

“So excuse me if I laugh at the whiny Veruca Salt who bitches about “workplace respect.” DS

‘Veruca Salt’ is an excellent comparison.
It’s funny how the Libs whine that we should put a salary cap on people that actually work for a living but nothing about these overpaid teleprompter readers and other so called stars whose only job is to be a ‘personality’. Why do “they deserve it”?

“welfare queens who watch daytime TV–that’s why she’s lost half her audience”
I infer race here and I highly doubt that undereducated, non working sistahs ever would watch a blonde just yappin about nothing. This line was un-needed.

As far a Stahan, I do not know how or why he was made into a show host??? If the execs wanted a Black male for a host or daytime TV, I think Wayne Brady has immensely more oersonality, wit, talent than Strahan, that’s who comes to my mindd

MrBigBrain on April 27, 2016 at 9:30 pm

Mr. BB, How racist of you to infer that the phrase “welfare queens who watch daytime TV” is referring to black women. If you step outside the urban areas you’ll find lots of white women who have spent their lives “married” to Uncle Sugar. I believe Debbie was just making the point that few people are at home watching TV at that hour other than retirees and welfare moms.

I, for one though, am retired and God help me if I ever stoop to watching the insipid garbage that is daytime TV directed at women.

MIGirl on April 30, 2016 at 8:49 am

Call me a cynic, but while I’d agree that Ripa is a whiney brat prima donna, my gut instinct tells me that this is really about generating publicity for Ripa, giving her some extra media buzz. As the old saying goes, “There’s no such a thing as bad publicity.” However, I don’t think this saying is quite right, as sometimes bad publicity doesn’t serve a client well, even if it gets the client lots of media attention. A better version of the saying would be to say: “Bad publicity is better than no publicity at all.” In Ripa’s case, the media buzz, even though negative, as in the present example, at least gets people talking about her. When Ripa returns from her luxurious Caribbean vacation, she will, no doubt put her modest acting skills to work as she emotes contrition for her behavior, garnering her some positive publicity, possibly translating into ratings — or so she hopes.

Ralph Adamo on April 27, 2016 at 10:13 pm

Given Debbie’s mention of Norma Rae and Walter P. Reuther, I could name a few other prominent names in the union movement over the years that Ms. Ripa (whom the New York Post’s Kyle Smith referred to as the “Grim Ripa,” though he was far nicer in his criticism of her than Debbie was) seemed to be channeling: namely, the bushy-eyebrowed head of the United Mine Workers, John L. Lewis, and (for New Yorkers who frequent this site) the late head of Local 100 of the Transport Workers’ Union, Michael J. “Red Mike” Quill (whose union went on strike for 12 days at the start of 1966 after the guy who supposedly gave Florence Henderson crabs, became Mayor).

Keeping in mind that I consider myself ‘agnostic’ when it comes to professional sports (meaning that I find it way too boring to even give a crap) and also keeping in mind that in spite of my sports related ennui I’d much rather watch sports than Kelly and Michael, I’m pretty sure that if ‘Live’ tapes were to survive and surface a few centuries from now there will be a bunch of historians scratching their respective heads trying to figure out the reason for their existence:

Abu lahab on April 28, 2016 at 8:57 am

I despise Kelly Ripa. First off she is so dumb SNL had a famous skit where they poked fun at how dumb she was. She has no skill other than the gift of gab. She started by being a teenager on an afternoon show in Philly called Dance party USA. Where kids danced to new music.

She went to community college and was able to get a job on All My Children. A break many talented people can not get. Before you know it she wormed her way on the Regis and Kathy show. Eventually making over 8 million. BEfore Regis left they gave her a night time comedy show. Something else most people can not get. Yet her day show fueled her night show lasting awhile she parlayed that into commercials and even more millions.

After Regis left her salary grew to 15-20 million. Talk about the eorlds luckiest woman. One hour if talking makes her more than mist make in a year. Plus she has minions for wardrobe and to prep her with info they collected on the guests.

ABC could get many women as good, to do the job for 10% of her salary. Her days maybe numbered but she sure has luck on her side. To whine and complain like a spoiled brat is riduculous. As many have said, Kelly shut up and do your job.

Glen Benjamin on April 28, 2016 at 11:08 am

Mr. Benjamin clearly outlines the outlandishly meteoric rise of this woman who did a very credible job with a simple role on a major daytime soap as a teenager.

Since Kelly Ripoff left All My Children I have been astonished at the positions she’s held, attention she’s gotten, and fame and fortune she’s “achieved.” If she were good looking, I’d wonder if the old “casting couch” had anything to do with it.

Soooooooo, I’m left to wonder, . . .

how did it all happen to her so effortlessly?

I’m cleaning toilets, embalming tables, moving heavy objects, polishing furniture, trimming hedges, scraping moss off roofs, etc. for a hundred bucks a day or so.

Man, I’m in the wrong business. I need some of that stuff Kelly Ripoff has. LOL!!!

I agree wholeheartedly Debbie that Mrs. Consuelos needs a big cup of STFU juice STAT! I remember a buddy of mine who was a Chief Petty Officer(that’s an E-7 for those of you in Rio Linda and Boone County WV) in the Navy. He retired and then the next week he showed up as a Navy federal employee. I didn’t get a heads up prior to that so what made that little shrew think that the equally untalented Strahan owed her any explanation. He didn’t owe her diddley squat. Like so many other celebutards and news media hacks who make millions of dollars Ripa-Consuelos whines about unfair treatment in the workplace. Kind of like her fellow stuck on themselves whiners such as Katherine Heigl and Scarlett Johansson. I’ve read that the former is so hard to work with that casting couch directors skip hiring her whiney butt. Someone should clue in Ripa on real unfair treatment in the workplace. Like the time a friend of mine almost got fired for remaking how a woman co worker looked. The harpy took it the wrong way and went to HR. My friend came within a frog’s hair of being fired all because he was being friendly. Until Mizz Consuelos he at the time made 38,000 per year not 36,500 per minute like she does. You’d think with all of that money she makes old Kelly could go to say a Hardees and get herself some thick burger combos. That’s probably why she’s so bitchy. Girl needs some animal protein. She also should just thank her lucky stars that for doing next to nothing she gets paid what she does. Because of almost 8 years of Odimwit and his horrendous policies and laws like Obamacare the average American isn’t so lucky. Well at least we’re able to keep our doctors, health plans and save 2500 per month…oh never mind. Now where did I put my EBT card? Oh and about Michael Strahan going to All Barack Channels Good Morning America. He’ll get along well with vacuous Obama cheerleaders like Spencer, Roberts and Elliot. He put up with one in Ripa-Consuelos so dealing with 5 other numbskulls shouldn’t stretch his “awesome” in front of the camera abilities.

It seems Ms Schlussel’s main thesis is:

Kelly Ripa has an ‘Extremely Cushy Job’; she is overcompensated and under-talented as an actor or a TV morning show host. And she’s not blue-collar.

I totally agree with you. And I don’t know a single person who would dispute that.

But then you bring in random other things that have nothing to do with Ms. Ripa’s talent or compensation.

Oh, people are “struggling to pay for ObamaCare”! Well, yes, true. All those people are in the Medicaid Gap, which means they live in states that refused free federal money to help insure the country’s poor. Texas and similar states WANT their poor people to suffer and die without health insurance. (At least until their political point is made.)

I like how you put “bus-driver father” in quotes. Guess what? Kelly Ripa *did* have a father who was a real, live bus driver. He was a (unionized) bus driver for many years before entering union leadership. And certainly his salary from the union helped his family, and improved Kelly’s situation and chances down the line. Isn’t that what we’re *ALL* supposed to do? Work hard, get promotions, improve our lot, and help our families get a better starting position in the race? The Republican presidential nominee-to-be is Donald Trump, who inherited quite a bit of wealth from his family. I wonder, is Ms. Schlussel completely opposed to inheritance? Does she think estate taxes should be 100%? Everybody start from zero?

And back to Kelly Ripa… what about the free market? A major broadcasting corporation hired a person to co-host a morning show and offered her a big salary. I guarantee you ABC is watching the numbers. They know their profit margin. They could lower Kelly’s salary. They could fire her. But for now, the show is on the air and they are selling ads. Free market at work!

Yes, *I* think Kelly Ripa is overcompensated, but any person who believes in the free market *KNOWS* that Ms. Ripa is getting exactly the salary she deserves. What exactly is Ms. Schlussel’s complaing? She doesn’t like whiny people? Okay, most of us don’t, but when it comes to policy arguments… that dog don’t hunt.

timo on April 29, 2016 at 1:51 am

Her concern as a Princess should be being overshadowed by the death of the Prince. They may have been having an affair, which would justify to some extent her fit and no show. Mostly, I am not interested in her since I watch a limited amount of TV.

I have to add here a little comment based on my willing, and sometimes unwilling cultural observance. This whole “incident” is tickling my silly side.

It’s obvious that I have had some notice of Kelly Ripa for a long, long time. I was very impressed with her handling of the role of Hayley on All My Children. I was happy for her when she started to get noticed after leaving, but within a short time I began to be curious about this meteoric rise to fame and fortune based on virtually nothing.

Then again, as an old friend of mine, a former actor who was 99% in the door for one of the original big roles on Law and Order, until one of his managers pissed someone off at the network always reminds me, . . .

“Hollywood is not a meritocracy.” Quite true, not necessarily good or correct, but that’s the way life, especially in Hollywood is.

As for Michael Strahan, although I’m not a Giants fan, as a lifelong Noo Yawker and a big football fan, how could you not notice him?

When Kelly Ripa was mulling over her decision as to who would be her new sidekick, she said that of all her guests, there were only two under consideration. She had a list of several dozen, but would only consider either of those two. Strahan was one, and got the job, with word leaking shortly before the official announcement.

SO!!! Being The Resident Dumb Blond(e), I must add a little Blond(e) Ignition here. I mean, anyone can chime in and say why are these people even important, why couldn’t Debbie do another national security article, or another one exposing Muslim shenanigans in Michigan, or NYC?

But Debbie DID put up this article, because it fuels the cultural commentary aspect of her blogging. It fits in to the work she does quite well. And the participants, particularly Ripa, are people who interest me. That has nothing to do with like, dislike, admire, despise, it’s about general interest in the workings of our society in all realms.

SO!!! If Kelly Ripa had such a great opinion of Strahan after having him as a guest years ago, . . .

WHAT HAPPENED??!?!!???!?!! Seems for most, if not all of the time they’ve actually been co-hosts, they’ve hated each other. Curiouser and curiouser.
