Where I’ve Been: An Idiotic Texter Hit Me @ 70 MPH & Other Stuff

By Debbie Schlussel

young woman driving on highway while reading / writing text on smart phone.

If You Text & Drive, You’re a Bleeping Moron!

Yes, I’ve been offline for nearly three weeks, the longest I’ve ever been away, and I hope to never do that again. But I had a good reason: I was in a very serious car accident, and, while I’m okay, I’m lucky to be here and alive. I was at a light that just turned green during rush hour, going barely 10 miles per hour. The idiotic woman behind me hit me at 65 to 70 miles per hour according to the police. She admitted she was not paying attention to the road at all, and we believe she was texting. I’ve been in car accidents in my life, but never ever been hit that hard. Slammed. It really shook me up, and I’m still a little bit in shock over it.

I’m a tough chick and usually fearless, but this really hit me hard. I’ll get over it, and I’m getting over it. I’m okay, but I did have debilitating headaches from it (gone for now) and felt panicked from time to time. So that’s why I’ve been offline until now. I also have had to take increased security steps and be hyper-aware because of threats to my safety and security from the religion of peace. And it all comes at the same time. I have a lot going on professionally, and I’m back to do it, including soon-to-be-announced projects that are in the works that I am excited to tell you about in the near future. I also have a set of ongoing exclusive stories I’m going to break here, but I’ll wait for those until after InTrumpsanity-fest (tomorrow night’s GOP debate) is over. Stay tuned for those. I’ve also been working on some very intriguing international “cases of mystery” that I can’t talk about here, but I hope that someday (sooner rather than later) I will be able to. Stay tune for that, too . . . if I can. And, last, and probably least, I was once again under consideration by ABC for “The View.” More to come on that.

And now for those idiots–many of them millennials and, I believe, most of them women–who text. This woman who hit me appeared to be a millennial, though I can’t say for sure because she was overweight and that ages people. She had a handicapped sticker and license plate on her car, though the only disabilities she appeared to have was the inability to care about others’ lives and to stop eating and join a gym.

I’ve always believed that texting while driving is a lot worse than drunk driving. At least drunk drivers are watching the road a little. Texters aren’t. At least drunk drivers have the excuse that their minds are impaired from proper judgment because they’ve imbibed alcohol. Texters choose to do this deliberately because it’s far more important to text, “OMG, did you see how fugly Ashley looked in that dress? LOL!” than to pay attention to the road and spare others’ lives and limbs. Me, me, me, me, me. Your inane, waste-of-time, stream-of-consciousness BS utterings are more important than everyone else’s safety. Bleep you. Do us a favor and stay home watching the Kardashians.

This woman laughed about what she did and didn’t seem to think it was any big deal what she’d done. My car is almost undriveable, and the entire back of it is bashed and scrunched in. It took everything I had to keep from crashing into the car in front of me–I stopped literally a couple of inches away, if that. My air bags didn’t go off, either. And it panics me because I’ve read stats that a large percentage of millennials and others are texting while driving–people operating two-ton machinery and not caring enough to watch what is going on. Complete dumbasses. A few weeks ago, it was me. Today or tomorrow, it could be you.

I do, however, believe this was a message from G-d–maybe that I’m working too hard, that I am missing the important things in life. I’m sure that is part of it, and I’m cognizant of that. I got hit because I took a detour from my usual route home from court after I had to file something in a child support case (I’m representing the dad–I generally only represent men in these kinds of cases). The main road was not moving for a half hour, so I took a detour through the inner city ghetto of Pontiac, Michigan. When I was nearly home, that’s when I got slammed and smacked into. I realized as I was healing from this accident that in all of my hard work on this site, and as a lawyer and movie critic, I missed things, including the tenth anniversary of this site, which recently happened. But there really isn’t a cure for that. I’m very happy–I like what I do and wouldn’t change. But I am always busy, usually too busy. Again, there isn’t a cure for that, though. But this accident made me stop and think. I was forced to stop at least for a little bit. Until now.

So, that’s where I’ve been. But I’m okay. Like, I said, I’m a tough person–very resilient, and I’m back. I’ll be putting up all of the movie reviews I missed, over the next few days, and my usual commentary. And, very soon, I’ll be posting my exclusives on some very disturbing things the world should know about. Stay tuned.

Thanks to everyone who inquired about my welfare. There were so many e-mails, it’s heart-warming, and I’m lucky and grateful that you care. Thanks for staying with me. Since I was offline, I mostly didn’t check e-mail, and so I’m still catching up. And to those few bleeped up individuals who actually sent me hate-mail for not posting anything, really???!

To those who wrote that they hoped I was dead, happy to disappoint you. I’m here. I’m back. And you know where to go.

Sooooo happy you’re back and OK!

Lilida on August 5, 2015 at 5:30 pm

I was concerned that you were suffering as a result of some accident or legal difficulties. It relieves me greatly that you survived the rear ending from that idiot driver.

Worry on August 5, 2015 at 6:20 pm

Great to hear from you again. We were really worried about you.

May G-d keep you safe.

FactsofLife on August 5, 2015 at 6:23 pm

Was so worried about you and am thrilled you are OK and missed your articles terribly when you were away recovering. Hate those damn texters as well.

Rebecca on August 5, 2015 at 6:57 pm

Missing my occasional visit to your site, Debbie–especially the movie critiques. Glad you’re back.

Dave Weinbaum on August 5, 2015 at 7:00 pm

Debbie,

Very thankful you are OK and back on site. Hope those accident jitters vanish quickly.

Now get back to work girl! I needs me my movie reviews!!

Big Ed on August 5, 2015 at 7:09 pm

The rate of car accidents, for those who text while driving, equals the rate of those who are D.U.I.

fs on August 5, 2015 at 7:14 pm

Debbie I’m very pleased to hear that you’re ok. I’ll keep this short because I’m still at work and typing on a smart phone sucks…LOL. I would just like to say that texting and driving do not mix and if you do it sooner or later something bad will happen. Getting in a bad car accident is not fun. I should know I was in one several years ago(more on that later). Once again I’m very glad that you’re ok Debbie. I’ve said it before that you are a warrior for conservatives everywhere. Stay strong and safe and I’ll look forward to your up and coming posts.

Ken B on August 5, 2015 at 7:34 pm

Thank G-d that you are okay, Debbie.

JeffE on August 5, 2015 at 7:36 pm

I was wondering what happened and assumed you were on vacation. I was upset to read what happened, but relieved that it wasn’t as serious as it could of been. May G-d bless you Deb and may you continue your work to make this world a better place.

Missed you very much.
I was worried that a servant of moon g_d had did you harm.

Steve G on August 5, 2015 at 9:37 pm

Glad to here you are OK. I can not stand drunk drivers or driving while texting or talking on the phone. Many years ago I was hit by a drunk driver showing off to his friends in dads new car. I was OK by turning away last second but my car was totaled.

As far as the cell phone texting or talking without hands free, I absolutely hate it. In the NY there is a law against it, yet it seems many do not care. So I must see in suburban NY at least a dozen people in giant cars and other types texting or talking every day. When you tell them off, they give you dirty looks.

Maybe every few days I must be in a near miss with these type of drivers. I have no problem with stiffer penalties.

Glen Benjamin on August 5, 2015 at 9:56 pm

Thank God, thank God, thank GOD!!!

Debbie, it was a car accident on May 7, 1978, that left me with permanent neurological damage, which eventually ended my attempts at a bodybuilding career. You’d never know it to see me walking down the street, shoveling snow, doing farm work, or any other activity. But I live with the results, and they are not good. I was alone, fell asleep at the wheel, and the rest is history. I wasn’t drunk or anything, just fatigued.

Although I should have thought of it sooner, and if so, I might be much better off today, it took me over a year and a half to realize I needed to see a chiropractor. I’ve been in treatment for nearly 36 years, and thank GOD for chiropractic care. I can’t prove it, but I probably would have deteriorated to a wheelchair state without it. I certainly would not be in the incredible shape I’m in today.

PLEASE, although you’ve probably already thought about it, since athletes know these things. You were a great athlete in your time, and you probably already have thought about a spinal exam and visit to a chiropractor. If you haven’t, please do.

I love you and I’m glad you’re back. I prayed for you regularly and it’s a thrill to see you back on. Onward and upward!!! Looking forward to seeing some of the things you mentioned as events unfold and time passes.

Alfredo from Puerto Rico on August 5, 2015 at 11:23 pm

Alfredo, that was so thoughtful of you to recommend to Debbie a detailed follow-up checkup. You r a terrific person.

Dinak on August 6, 2015 at 12:47 am

Ms. Schlussel, thank goodness that you’re ok and well, it sucks that you were in a automobile accident, but that person who was texting whilst driving should pay close attention to what she’s doing, insofar and thankfully it wasn’t worst of godforbid it being fatal.

Inevitably, I knew that at some degree you’ll comeback here and share stories and informative news stories with us, your followers, fans and readers, etc. to know what exactly is occurring encompassing us in the world (yes I do get my sources from other websites besides this one, mainly reliable and dependable publications with no confirmation-bias in it).

And I highly doubt that you’re going to give much of your two-cents on the debates of the primaries for the Democrats and Republicans alike, because it’ll be the same questionnaires all over again from past debates. In any event, I’m glad that you’re ok and still existing amongst the human-species!

Sean R. on August 5, 2015 at 11:49 pm

Glad you’re alright.

You should have had someone let us know what was up though.

Anything would have sufficed: a tweet, a note here, etc.

To leave us regulars in the dark was kinda mean.

Sick of moslems on August 6, 2015 at 12:19 am

Texting and driving are yet another strike against millennials, besides the little matter of their being the most anti-American, most Marxist leaning, most disrespectful towards authority since the 1960’s baby boomers. And that’s not counting the little matter of much if not all of the worst stereotypes of that age group being amplified by so-called “social media” (which, for all practical purposes, deserves to be branded as anti-social media): fickleness, recklessness, irresponsibility, rank selfishness and thinking only for the moment, with no regard, concern, thought or consideration for the future.

Count me as not having any of those devices; I’m one of those who still go by landlines and whose computers are homebound.

Oh, and glad you’re back. I figured something serious of some type had to have happened, just didn’t know exactly what till now.

ConcernedPatriot on August 6, 2015 at 12:32 am

Debbie, I’ve been very worried about you and told my husband last week how concerned I was to not receive your regular updates. Obviously something was wrong. It’s horrible that you were rear-ended.I am so sorry that you were injured. Thank G_d you are o.k. You are right that accidents like that make one appreciate every day a little bit more. Please take good care of yourself. All the best to you.

Dinak on August 6, 2015 at 12:34 am

I thought your absence was due to court cases, or some such thing.

Your airbag failure is frightening. So glad you’re on the mend.

I anticipated all the foreign parasites getting their drivers licenses knowing even if they actually passed, they would lack practical experience, so I wrote a check for the biggest Ford truck, nearly 20 feet long, expensive to register as commercial plates are mandatory in California, extra fees for weight etc, expensive to fuel, and expensive to insure so I pay everyday in every way, so if I am clobbered I have a better chance. Living in Mexifornia is no picnic. The illegal parasites commit DUI murder daily, so one must do one’s best to survive.

Darrellhicks on August 6, 2015 at 2:56 am

I am so glad to see you are back. After sending you an e-mail and not getting your usual quick response, I didn’t know what happened.

I was checking every day to see if there was an update to July 16, 2015 article. A few people posted comments that you would be back.

I hope that you realize that many of your commenters care deeply about you and hope that you are OK and living a happy life as a lawyer, blogger, and film critic. Many of us feel like we are part of your extended family

The Commish in L.A. on August 6, 2015 at 4:32 am

Debbie – how terrifying! Glad that you made it… but, yes, you will still be in shock.

I see no reason why this texter/driver should not be on trial for attempted manslaughter. given that she could easily have killed you.

Your guess at what she was texting made me laugh – though this is not a laughing matter.

Its terminal selfishness really.

sue on August 6, 2015 at 6:27 am

It’s great to see you posting again Debbie. I thought you were on a much deserved vacation. Texters and FB posters are a serious threat. A few months ago a woman here where I live was posting she heard the song Happy and it made her happy. She drove off the road and was killed…

Gladcto know you are doing well. G-d bless.

Frank on August 6, 2015 at 6:48 am

glad you are back Debbie.

those can be very serious accidents and years later still have affect. I hope you have a good chiropractor.

I agree that texting is worse then drunk driving. I think the penalties should be severe especially when involved in an accident.

I walk along a fairly busy road and at a minimum one in three cars that pass is someone on a phone texting etc. it is scary.

Unfortunately you can’t protect yourself from stupidity. An off duty Harper Woods police officer was struck and killed when a young person pulled right in front of his motorcycle a few days ago. Nothing happened to the young driver. Life is fragile. Welcome back and I hope you are feeling much better and ready to kick some a–.

Lars on August 6, 2015 at 8:05 am

Debbie, I am so glad you are still with us, but very sad this happened!

Please pay attention to how your neck is feeling. You probably sustained an injury there. You may want to see a spine specialist in a few months and again in a year or so. (I missed years of sleep because of a whiplash injury, cracked vertebrae, and herniated cervical discs.). There is physical therapy that can strengthen the muscles in your neck (you can’t do this in a gym). I also a a believer in epirual injections (after extensive physical therapy). The muscle strengthening seems to offer longer-lasting relief than chiropractic or massage (but those might be helpful at this stage of your recovery).

You are right about texting drivers vs. drunk drivers. How does anyone think they have the right to drive with their eyes off the road?

On disability. With a phone. With a data plan. Mmm hmm. And she laughed? Will there be any legal consequences?

I’m glad other people were inquiring about your welfare. I felt like a stalker (emailing you), but I wanted you to know you were missed and I was worried for you.

So glad you are ok (although you have been through something horrific.)!

I’m so glad you’re ok & back. I am still SMH @ those SELFISH wankers who sent you hate mail because you didn’t post. Wow! Narcissism is a truly disgusting thing and endemic for sure. Those wankers should be ashamed…if only they could process shame properly. Imagine being so self-involved you only want YOUR soul fed…all others be damned. Disgrazia!

This is a very important statement you made…
“I also have had to take increased security steps and be hyper-aware because of threats to my safety and security from the religion of peace.”

It’s a VERY serious matter and peeps must know that you’re not a wuss to say the important things you say. Islam is the enemy and it’s simple to see in 2015. All you Bogans that can’t see it in 2015 you need to go to SpecSavers and have your dopey eyes opened. To be above the fray and Proles in 2015 you have got to be brave, speak the truth peeps don’t want to see and sack up for goodness sake! We all need to spread the truth RE: Islam and all the other FACTS people don’t wanna see. I’m sick of it but I am staying to fight!

DS, I hope you sue that heifer that rammed you. So glad you’re a lawyer. She won’t be laughing for long!

Skunky on August 6, 2015 at 10:53 am

YOU ARE LOVED! By G-d and so many of your followers. You are SO needed in these difficult days that we are living in. Yes, maybe G-d has allowed you to see that you are doing TOO much. Take time to enjoy G-d’s wonderful creation and spend more time loving on your family, as life is TOO short.
    Blessings,

Ann Arbor (yes, there are still a few conservatives hiding out in this city).

Barbara Bolt on August 6, 2015 at 11:06 am

You said it Skunky. To the rat bastids that sent Debbie the hate mail they should not be only ashamed but need to be called out. Those flea infested anti-Semitic camel humpers don’t like the fact that she does that on a constant basis. Do you know that the Muslim creeps are staring to show up at active duty military households to harass the member’s loved ones. The stones on these dirt bags is astounding. That in itself needs to be investigated but you know that the Oblamo DOJ won’t. We who care about this nation and hate the PC baloney need to be vigilant in making sure that we stay informed about Muslims and other creeps and Debbie’s site does it perfectly.

    Ken B on August 6, 2015 at 11:53 am

Thankful you are okay! I am glad the accident was not more serious. I was starting to worry that something horrible had happened to cause your absence. Please do take precautions with your safety! Have you ever thought of moving away from Dearbornistan to some safer area??? BTW I do not believe that G*d would use a car accident to speak to you. That’s a whole new rabbit hole but G*d does not speak to individuals that way anymore since the prophets stopped. It is however a useful time to give thanks to G*d for everything.
HUUUGS!

Occam's Tool on August 6, 2015 at 11:09 am

Very glad you are back. you never realize until it is gone how much you rely and care about things. I got rear-ended by a semi who hit the one behind me and my quality of life is greatly diminished since January. Harder to heal as we age I suppose. So take care, get rest, and take some time to smell the roses along the way. Enjoy your expose’s immensely.

CJ on August 6, 2015 at 11:18 am

Once again Debbie I’m so glad that you’re ok. I remember back in 2001 while I was still active duty Navy that me and a friend got into a car accident. It was a Saturday and I was at my second job working at the Annie Anne’s Pretzel shop in the local mall. We were running low on the special flour it took to make the cinnamon raisin pretzels and my buddy and I volunteered to go to another pretzel shop in another part of town to go get extra. She wanted to take her 94 Ford Bronco so we did and left. We got as far as the main intersection before we got hit by a 2000 Toyota Camry. It turned out to be a bunch of young sailors with the driver talking on his cell phone while the others were talking and listening to music. My friend’s car suffered damage to the passenger side fender and it crunched in the right front wheel. The Camry got the worse end of the deal because a 94 Bronco is like a tank. That car suffered front end damage with airbags being deployed saving the driver and front passenger. The two others in the back were saved because they were wearing their seat beats. My buddy and I were ok because we wore our seat beats and the fact that like I said the Bronco was like a tank. Needless to say the driver got into trouble for reckless driving, going through a red light, and impaired driving(talking on his phone). I went and got myself checked out both mental and physical and all was well. I still to this day think about that day and how careless that young sailor was and what it cost him me and everyone else involved. People need to take the time and think about what they’re doing while they’re driving. You shouldn’t be texting or talking on your phone, eating, shaving or putting on your makeup unless you’re the passenger period. Like I said before Debbie thank God that you’re ok and weren’t severely hurt. Hopefully the driver of that other car gets the book thrown at her. Maybe that will make her think twice the next time (heaven forbid) she gets behind the wheel.

Ken B on August 6, 2015 at 11:29 am

Glad you are back and OK! People are idiots. I was rear-ended by a tractor doing about 60. I was stopped in a line of traffic. And this was in 1993, before texting. People really need to pay 100% attention on the roads.
