Can My Neighbor Still Drive His General Lee? People Who Demand Confederate Flag Dumping Tell Me to Tolerate Muslim Hate

By Debbie Schlussel

dukesofhazzard

As I’ve mentioned before, there’s a guy in my neighborhood who owns one of the few original “General Lee” cars driven on “The Dukes of Hazzard.” I wondered, this week, if he’ll be allowed to drive it around town, now that we’ve ascribed all kinds of evil to a flag, rather than a sick, murderous evildoer. After all, the car has a Confederate rebel flag on top of the cab. And then I remembered all of those mass murders of Blacks that occurred at the hands of those of us who saw the rebel flag while suffering through Jessica Simpson’s horrible “Dukes” movie (read my review) and those who watched the original “Hazzard” on TV in the ’70s and ’80s (I was not a fan of the show). “Gone With the Wind” features a Confederate flag, too. Should that be cinema non grata, too?

I’ve written in the past on this site how stupid I think it is to censor sales of Holocaust memorabilia and Nazi flags on eBay and elsewhere (though I don’t think Walmart should be in the swastika or death’s head biz). I’m libertarian on a lot of this stuff, as I think it’s stupid to create value in and more demand for things that are anathema. And it’s important to remember that things happened and not to deny history. That said, I don’t believe the Confederate battle flag is anything like a swastika-bearing flag. If it were, why would the mainstream media–which gushes over faux-badass “Kid Rock” a/k/a Bob Ritchie–allow this father of a half-Black kid (whom he fathered when he was a drug dealer) to wave the Confederate flag around? Why did they never say anything about it? Instead, it’s become a modern day iconic symbol for the South, to the point that one of those Blacks murdered by Dylann Roof voted to keep the flag flying over South Carolina’s Capitol.

Dylann Roof was a loser and an idiot. He didn’t know anything about the Confederacy. He declared that he hates Jews. And, yet, he didn’t seem to know that his beloved Confederacy had as one of its officials, Judah P. Benjamin. Benjamin, a Jew, was the Confederates States’ Secretary of War.

My favorite part of all of this is the Republicans who’ve joined the hypocritical liberal Dems in throwing the flag and Southern culture under the bus, all in the name of votes. Does spineless Nikki Haley, who believes in the conceit that she’ll be President (but never will be), really think that more Blacks will vote for her because she took down a flag? And then there’s RINO idiot Lindsey Graham. He’d have far more spine if he came out of the closet. This flag nonsense ain’t courage. Just pap. I would say that I wonder what Ms. Haley’s hubby thinks about this, as a White Southerner. But he’s too busy changing diapers and playing mommy while Darling Nikki plays the man. And you just can’t care what a guy who checked his testicles at the door thinks.

It’s weird that all of these phonies who ascribe modern-day mass murder to the rebel flag don’t have the slightest prob with Che Guevara T-shirts. Apparently, because he was Hispanic and part of the radical chic, he gets a pass for being a racist against Blacks and a mass murderer. Hey, just like Dylann Roof! But Roof isn’t a “cool Hispanic.” So, his brand of racism ain’t hip. And, also, Che Guevara T-shirt wearers = Obama voters. And we gotta keep the syndicate of ye old non-stop liberal Dem gravy train running.

And then there’s my neighbor, Mark. He’s not really my “neighbor” per se. He lives near me, though. He’s the guy with the General Lee. I don’t know where he made his money. But he used some of it to buy all kinds of fancy, exotic, and expensive cars. He’s a Chaldean–a Christian Iraqi immigrant.

And he’s got kitschy cars like the General Lee, which he drives around town in the summer. He also drives it in a Detroit event called “The Woodward Dream Cruise,” in which Metro Detroiters drive exotic, classic, or kitschy cool cars up and down Woodward Avenue on one Saturday every August. I wonder if Mark will be allowed into the mix of cars once they spot the “offensive,” mass-murderspirational flag on the top of the General Lee.

Mark is also a very nutty guy and a 9/11 Truther, who insists that the U.S. government perpetrated 9/11, sells drugs to America’s kids, and a whole buncha other “chazzerei” (junk/garbage). I’m not friendly with him, but have been held hostage to some of his ridiculous conspiracy theory conversations in a local Starbucks. So, I won’t feel too bad for him if he’s now troubled with his ownership of the General Lee.

But I do feel troubled by the groupthink hysteria that immediately sweeps America anytime anything bad happens–and anytime the left wants to trample on still-warm dead bodies for its agenda. Sadly, their anytime for that is all the time.

Remember, these are the same people who tell us to be TOLERANT! of Muslim hate speech calling for the death of Jews and Christians, Muslim demonstrations of Hezbollah flags–the flags under which hundreds of Americans were killed not so long ago, and tolerant of the most extreme and dangerous expressions of speech by ROT–the Religion of Terrorism.

These same people would rather take down the Confederate flag than the ISIS one. And that’s exactly the problem.

I’m sorry you are wrong.
no one will and should stop a private citizen from flying the confederate flag.At a States capital is an entirely different thing..Again the war has been over for 150 years ..they lost! get over it!.call it because of states rights if u will but the crux of the conflict was over Slavery .That was the only reason for the war..Look at history books many leading Confederates argued that the rightful place of blacks was in a subordinate
position to whites.
It is like the Nazi flag.it reminds one of a shameful history .if the Nazi flag flew over a Government building because it is part of German history Jews around the world would complain.
if you are arguing that the left is hypocritical because it never said anything about Kid Rock or the Dukes of Hazard you are making a mute point or at least being disengenous.what does that have to with anything?
African Americans have been bringing this up for years and no one listened .
For someone that looks at everything as antisemitic , even the smallest slights or criticism of Israel, you are very insensitive to the legitimate grievances of others.

You’re probably right the Confederate flag should be retired from public property.

But Debbie’s point about Wal-mart and other merchants decision to stop selling the flag is overreach. In this country, people have the right to display any flag even if other people don’t like it.

Southerners should have the same right to fly their flag as extremist Muslims can fly Hezbollah or ISIS flags or neo-Nazis can fly the swastika. I don’t approve of their views.

If we start trampling on people’s individual freedom to do what they want, as long as they don’t harm others, we’ll cease to be a free country. The fallout from the Charleston massacre is over the top and ridiculous.

Political correctness is the enemy of freedom.

Really? So dis Abraham Lincoln. Only a tiny minority owned slaves. Some slave owners were blacks. Many slaves were white.
If you learned your American History in school you only got to hear the Union side, plenty of which was twisted in their favor.
Abraham Lincoln never gave a rats ass about black slaves, otherwise he wouldn’t have “freed” ONLY the ones in the Confederacy. He said black and white will never co-exist peacefully (seems he was right in some respect) and wanted all the freed slaves shipped to Africa. Just google ‘Liberia’.

    Sanjay-

I find myself sympathetic to your point of view. Recognize, though, that for many Americans, the Confederate flag symbolizes respect for a culture and is not about slavery. I understand, though, if Negroes see if differently, and, as such, tend to agree the flag should be removed from public buildings.

What I strongly disagree with is that those who do respect the Confederate flag are somehow racist or blah blah blah. I think that to many such people, slavery was an almost incidental part of what they respect about the Confederacy.

The progressives have always been guilty of selective outrage. Confederate flag, bad. ISIS flag, OK.

JeffT on June 26, 2015 at 4:38 pm

Jeff, to add to your point, it’s “pay no attention to he man behind the curtain.” ISIS just killed 68 people in three countries, but the gov’t is concerned about confederate battle flags. 9/11 is just around the corner…again, but who cares? Not our government.

WilliamMunny on June 26, 2015 at 9:47 pm

Yes, the contradictions in liberal groupthink are rather striking. I agree with your example about idolizing Muslim terrorism while banning the Confederate flag.

Another example is the fanatical campus hissy-fits against using or writing certain words that could be ‘sexually offensive’, while at the same time, the phenomenon of Sex Week, with its related depravity has spread (no pun intended) nationally.

But all of this is opportunistic, meant to drive clear-thinking people deeper and deeper underground, hwile still engaging in their narcissistic fun.

What is sad, though not unexpected, is to see traditional ‘conservatives’ in large numbers, endorse the stifling of the Confederate Flag. This and other stances they take suggest strongly they are no longer conservative, since many of them also support illegal immigration, the submerging of social issues, etc.

Why are they doing this? The obvious answer is they aren’t conservative anymore. They have become liberal. Their voting Republican doesn’t change that, as the Republican candidates are all liberal now.

But they obviously feel their words will have more impact if they self-classify themselves as conservatives. If some of the Commentary contributors, for instance, were openly liberal, they would be just part of the pack. But now, they get more attention as CONSERVATIVES supporting the ban against the Confederate Flag.

I am amused, and at the same time appalled by some of the rationalizations some of the conservatives use to stifle the Confederate Flag. For instance, one NR columnist said, (in paraphrase) ‘yes, ban the flag, but at the same time ban name-calling on the Left, such as La Raza.)

How clever! Hoping the readers would overlook that the ban against the Confederate Flag is a current movement, while there is absolutely no viable movement to ban the term ‘La Raza’.

Little Al on June 26, 2015 at 4:47 pm

in that case many people who call themselves conservative act like children. their arguments are in cohesive. who has the ISIS flag is ok and where and what American government institution does it fly over. weather not be Confederate flag make somebody violent it doesn’t matter it’s a symbol of hate. just because you are angry about something doesn’t mean that your argument is correct. there are a lot of things that I used to say is a child that after looking back on it I realize that it can be offensive. again you dress inconsiderate close with a Confederate belt that is your right do what you want but the world will judge you accordingly. one more thing do you think Debbie would be happy if the Palestinian flag was flying in Gaza or for God forbid in Jerusalem they lost the war so it doesn’t matter what the Israeli Arabs think does it

Sanjay Bhardwaj on June 26, 2015 at 4:51 pm

It is difficult to respond to you because you are so grammatically challenged. YOur language is close to incomprehensible. In this case, language certainly reflects thought.

The Confederate Flag has a history which is bad in some (not all respects), but also a tradition, which, although bad in a few ways, has much good in it also, especially when used, as is often the case today, as a protest against creeping totalitarianism. It is this current application of the Confederate Flag that is arousing so much hostility, although the liberals will never say so.

Why not ban the Democratic Party? Doesn’t it also have a tradition of slavery? To even ask this question makes my point.

And every complex symbol has ambiguities, something the liberals use to downplay the American Flag, as well. Of course there are some bad things about American History (though obviously much fewer than the liberals would have us believe), and as with any complex symbol, ambiguities and complexities can be unscrupulously mined to fit the current agenda of attempting to stifle dissenting (i.e. anti-creeping-totalitarian) opinion.

Little Al on June 26, 2015 at 5:05 pm

Go back to where you came from! You are an example of what has been wrong with US immigration policy since 1965! We Americans with hundreds of years of historyin this country dont want you or need you!

Jedediah on June 30, 2015 at 9:15 pm

The Left can be quite selective in its outrage. As you have noted, all sorts of of “Lovely” banners and flags fly in Dearborn, but there is little public outrage over it. Instead, there is a frenzy over what has become an anodyne symbol of the South. I wonder how that is the cause behind the Mayhem that continues in Baltimore each week?

Worry on June 26, 2015 at 4:52 pm

They also won’t take down the LGBT(Q) so-called “rainbow flag” which is as much divisive and as much a symbol of totalitarianism, tyranny and oppression as the swastika, the hammer and sickle, the star and crescent, and now the ISIS flag.

But there is something else afoot besides this groupthink hysteria over the Confederate flag and anything associated therewith: A drive to use Roof’s rantings as an excuse to delegitimize and criminalize any and all criticism of, dissent from, and opposition to Obama’s Marxist policies and radical social engineering (and the RINOs’ spineless appeasement to same). We’ve already seen the new Attorney General, Loretta Lynch (same as the old AG Holder), comparing (read: morally equivocating) Roof’s murderous actions with ISIS. But it was evident that Roof had a “dead” look about him, not only with his eyes but also his facial (lack of) expression.

ConcernedPatriot on June 26, 2015 at 4:59 pm

In that case many people who call themselves conservative act like children. Their arguments are incohesive. The US Supreme Court has now legalized same sex marriage.

Not that I’m surprised or shocked that Jewish groups praised it.

We’re told that thousands of years of tradition and the basic building block of society has to give way so a minority can feel comfortable in its own skin.

Such people have zero tolerance for the rights and views of others.

The same people who are aghast over Dylann Roof’s mass murder spree overlook the fact that he burned the American flag.

If he wasn’t a racist who hated blacks, they’d be with him on flag burning – which shows they’re hypocrites.

Increasingly in this country, you can be free only to the extent that you submit to the tyranny of the majority – or to activist judges who stick it in your face and tell your vote doesn’t matter.

That’s not the America those of us old enough to remember what it was like grew up in.

Also why is this a left right issue?
It is a right or wrong issue.
In terms of some of the examples such as LA Raza if that is being taught in schools then something needs to be dine about it..it took 150 years for anyone to anything about this, hopefully your request would be answered in a more timely manner.
I just don’t understand the outrage.it’s like when I talk to my kids.” You never say anything to her when she does the same thing!” Not a valid discussion.
Perpetual right wing outrage is a big business..College dropouts like Beck, Limbaugh and Hannity make millions and Millions of dollars to polarize and use wedge issues to divide us.the truth is that on many issues people are liberal on others they are conservative. This is not like routing for the green bay packers or the Chicago Bears.

I did not know this Debbie. Honestly I know nothing of the man, just see the shirts all the time. I’m always told he was some revolutionary. Meh

My brother drives rigs Nationally, and you know those rigs sometimes have a huge confederate flag on the front of the truck covering the engine.

So my brother is at a truck stop and sees one, and he asks “Hey Whats that mean?”

The trucker answers, “Ah, just where I’m from”

My brother goes “Oh, cause I was thinking about getting one’

The truckers chuckle and say “man you crazy” and they laughed.

See, just break the ice, people need to relax and enjoy others.

MrBigBrain on June 26, 2015 at 5:37 pm

Your article is well written as usual. The confederate flag is a symbol of the civil war.

In line with this, there are several reasons for the cause of the civil war, debated by historians, since slavery had some impact but is acknowledged it was not the ONLY reason for the civil war.

As for the supreme court, forcing a deviant lifestyle on the states and the people is the works of man not G_d.

G_d sanctified marriage in the ten commandments to honor your father and mother. G-d said honor not agree with them.

But I digress.

It may be too late without a revolution like the civil war to sort out the federal government takeover of the states and the people, and their trashing of what is left of the Constitution and the American lifestyle.

It is of interest to me that one debated cause of the civil war is the argument even then about state’s rights versus federal government rights. Also, another cause is the cultural differences between the north (city dwellers) and the south (agrarian lifestyle). Oh say can you see we are still being oppressed by the federal government over and over again.

Mark’s General Lee Dodge Charger has almost certainly appreciated in value, so don’t feel bad about him in this respect. However, he will need to take much more care of it than he has in the past to protect it from vandals.

As for Mark’s “conspiracy theories,” based on what little you told us about his ideas, they are not as “whacko” as they may appear to those who haven’t look thoroughly into the facts. As long as Mark isn’t saying that Israel had something to do with 911, then he may actually have done some serious research into the subject. Unfortunately, the so-called 911 “Truther” movement has been thoroughly infiltrated by disinformation specialists who are out to make anyone who questions the official government account a “crackpot”—and, at the same time, they are promoting an anti-Semitic and anti-Israel agenda. To accomplish this, they take one item of truth—that the Israeli intelligence got wind of the plot and knew about pending attacks in advance—and then pervert that fact to assert that Israel was behind 911. However, the facts are that not only did Israel know about pending attacks, but the Mossad WARNED the CIA. Moreover, Israel wasn’t the only nation to warn the US Government.

So let’s look at the many nations that warned the USA about the pending attacks, and please note that everything I say has been thoroughly documented, as opposed to the plethora of trash written by disinformation specialists who only tell lies, with no foundation in fact whatsoever……

In 1999, British intelligence gave a secret report to the US embassy. The report stated that al-Qaeda had plans to use “commercial aircraft” in “unconventional ways,” “possibly as flying bombs.” [Sunday Times, 6/9/02] On July 16, 2001, British intelligence passed a message to the US that al-Qaeda was in “the final stages” of preparing a terrorist attack in Western countries. [London Times, 6/14/02] In early August, the British gave another warning, telling the US to expect multiple airline hijackings from al-Qaeda. This warning was included in Bush’s briefing on August 6, 2001. [Sunday Herald, 5/19/02]

Hosni Mubarak, President of Egypt, maintained that in the beginning of September 2001 Egyptian intelligence warned American officials that al-Qaeda was in the advanced stages of executing a significant operation against an American target, probably within the US. [AP, 12/7/01, New York Times, 6/4/02] He learned this information from an agent working inside al-Qaeda. [ABC News, 6/4/02]

In June 2001, German intelligence warned the US, Britain, and Israel that Middle Eastern terrorists were planning to hijack commercial aircraft and use them as weapons to attack “American and Israeli symbols which stand out.” Within the American intelligence community, “the warnings were taken seriously and surveillance intensified” but “there was disagreement on how such terrorist attacks could be prevented.” This warning came from Echelon, a spy satellite network that is partly based in Germany. [Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, 9/11/01, Washington Post, 9/14/01]

In late July 2001, Egyptian intelligence received a report from an undercover agent in Afghanistan that “20 al-Qaeda members had slipped into the US and four of them had received flight training on Cessnas.” To the Egyptians, pilots of small planes didn’t sound terribly alarming, but they passed on the message to the CIA anyway, fully expecting Washington to request information. “The request never came.” [CBS, 10/9/02] Given that there were 19 hijackers and four pilots (who trained on Cessnas) in the 9/11 plot, one might think this would now be a big news item. But in fact, the information has only appeared as an aside in a CBS “60 Minutes” show about a different topic.

In late summer 2001, Jordan intelligence intercepted a message stating that a major attack was being planned inside the US and that aircraft would be used. The code name of the operation was Big Wedding, which did in fact turn out to be the codename of the 9/11 plot. The message was passed to US intelligence through several channels. [International Herald Tribune, 5/21/02, Christian Science Monitor, 5/23/02]

Russian President Vladimir Putin publicly stated that he ordered his intelligence agencies to alert the US in the summer of 2001 that suicide pilots were training for attacks on US targets. [Fox News, 5/17/02] The head of Russian intelligence also stated, “We had clearly warned them” on several occasions, but they “did not pay the necessary attention.” [Agence France-Presse, 9/16/01] The Russian newspaper Izvestia claimed that Russian intelligence agents knew the participants in the attacks, and: “More than that, Moscow warned Washington about preparation for these actions a couple of weeks before they happened.” [Izvestia, 9/12/02]

In the second week of August 2001, two high-ranking agents from the Mossad, the Israeli intelligence agency, came to Washington and warned the CIA and FBI that 50 to 200 al-Qaeda terrorists had slipped into the US and were planning an imminent “major assault on the US” aimed at a “large scale target” [Telegraph, 9/16/01, Los Angeles Times, 9/20/01, Ottawa Citizen, 9/17/01 Fox News, 5/17/02]. Near the end of August, France also gave a warning that was an “echo” of Israel’s. [Fox News, 5/17/02]

In October 2002, the story broke in Europe and Israel that on August 23, 2001, the Mossad had given the CIA a list of 19 terrorists living in the US. The Mossad had said that the terrorists appeared to be planning to carry out an attack in the near future. It is unknown if these are the same 19 names as the actual hijackers, or if the number is a coincidence. However, the four names on the list that are known are names of the 9/11 hijackers: Nawaf Alhazmi, Khalid Almihdhar, Marwan Alshehhi, and Mohamed Atta. [Die Zeit, 10/1/02, Der Spiegel, 10/1/02, BBC, 10/2/02, Ha’aretz, 10/3/02] These are also probably the four most important of the hijackers (and two of the pilots). From them, there were many connections to the others. The CIA had already been monitoring three of them overseas the year before, and two, Alhazmi and Almihdhar, were put on a watch list the same day the Mossad gave this warning. [AFP, 9/22/01, Berliner Zeitung, 9/24/01, Observer, 9/30/01, New York Times, 9/21/02]

Did you note that one nation conspicuously did NOT warn the CIA? That’s right, Saudi Arabia, perhaps the best funded intelligence operation of all, did NOT warn the CIA.

If you believe that CIA received all this intelligence from so many diverse sources and then just “messed up” or were “too inept” by not only failing to act on this knowledge, but in taking deliberate actions to block investigations that were underway prior to 911 by agents who were only trying to do their jobs, then you are extraordinarily naïve.

As for the US Government’s involvement in drug smuggling, that too, is unfortunately, far from “crazy” talk. This video will give you just a taste of the CIA’s involvement:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5_UbAmRGSYw

And while we’re on this topic of drugs, I’ll leave you with funny—but true—quotation:
“Was I addicted to cocaine? Absolutely not. I just really liked the way it smelled.”—George W. Bush.

And more ominously, the mounting hysteria over Confederate flags and other symbols should be a reminder how easily this country could succumb to mob rule, or domination by various left-wing demagogues.

You already have large sections of the population becoming hysterical over isolated incidents, where the facts aren’t even known. Is it such a big step to get to absolute tyranny supported initially by the masses?

The lack of clarity on issues like the Confederacy is appalling, and is strengthened by the last half century or so of dumbing down.

Is this where the ‘education’ of the last half-century on reasoning and problem-solving skills has led us?

Little Al on June 26, 2015 at 7:39 pm

It’s this dumbed-down, so-called “education” that helps explain why this generation of 18-24 year olds (the so-called “Millennials”) are the least patriotic, most anti-American (and thus on the side of our enemies) generation since the ’60’s baby-boomers – and why the 26th Amendment was such a mistake and, in fact, remains an ongoing threat to our freedoms. It explains a lot as to why this age group was part of the unkempt, slovenly, seditious, violent “Occupy Wall Street” movement, and why quite a few of this younger generation has left this country to join ISIS abroad and then return to wage jihad against us. It is this younger generation that emboldens the Paul Krugmans of the world to be able to get away with their claim that the American electorate has fallen so far to the left they are in danger of falling off the face of the earth – and why we may end up being stuck with what one Jewish group aptly called “Hillary Sodom Arafat” after 2016. In short, 18-year-olds should never have been given the vote. They are the ones who are the most easily herded by such demagoguery, followed by an increasing percentage of everybody else.

ConcernedPatriot on June 27, 2015 at 2:32 am

While I won’t defend U.S. readiness in 2001 and the years before, general warnings do not identify a specific threat, and it is a huge leap to go from general warnings to a conspiracy theory.

This can be considered an amplification of my immediately prior comment.

What this country full of pervert Proles should talk seriously about are the heaps of mentally ill fools taking out innocent people more and more as the years pass…and how the mentally ill are more prevalent these days than a Tribble Convention. That & Islamic Jihad. But no, it’s all nonsense, all the time and the fools of America are eating it up like free candy. Keep it up you retardo perverts!

This whole week, the American left wing have perpetuated the evolutionary epidemic of anti-intellectualism in this country (just as the right wing all day today have been hysterical on the same-sex marriage rulings) over the Confederate flag debate and have used straw- man fallacies with their analogies.

For starters the Confederate flag does NOT represent racism, white-supremacy, bigotry, etc., when that was created, it was a symbol to “succeed” from this republic are Abraham Lincoln won the 1860 US Presidential election, the confederate south succeed from this nation and called themselves the “Confederate States of America”; where they didn’t do trades or business with the northern states.

And I also think that the “Bonnie Blue Flag” should be a tradition for the deep south, meaning it’s an antecedent of the Confederate Flag that it represented the “West Republic of Florida” when the government of Spain occupied that half of the state. The folks rebelled the Spanish government, and in December 1810; the US government annexed western Florida along with the Bonnie Blue Flag!

Interesting you bring up “anti-intellectualism,” since the whole “climate change” hoax – and the Left’s insistence that everyone swallow it without question – is emblematic of same. The so-called “scientific” community may love to claim that they’re heirs to the legacy of Galileo, but their rubber-stamping of this crackpot theory, plus their contemptuous attitude towards skeptics, means they have far more in common today with Galileo’s persecutors. Pursuit of actual knowledge today is at its absolute lowest level since before the Renaissance.

    It’s “secede”, not succeed.

Jedediah on June 30, 2015 at 9:21 pm

Sanjay, while you like to parse out what pleases you about banners, what do you think about the flags of foreign nations dangling from peoples’ rear-view mirrors? You know, the ones that make it obvious that they cling to bad habits and refuse to assimilate.
Moreover, what do you think of burning the American Flag? You know, like that POS that murdered nine people who coincindentally held a burning American Flag in a pic on his social media website. Do you think that his obvious hatred of the symbol that represents this country should be protected from such vile hatred, or do you like freedom of speech when it comports with YOUR opinion?
As usual, Debbie’s remarks hit the nail on the head, especially her reference to Ernesto ‘Che’ Guevara, a murderous pig, M.D. (ironically). The regulars did a solid too by pointing out the many fascist tendencies of the progressive left.

My great great great great great grandfather was Corporal Jonathan Trueblood, of the North Carolina Seventh Regiment, Confederate Senior Reserve, which was in the Battle of Bentonville, North Carolina, the last major battle of the Second American Revolutionary War, and he was listed as present when General Joseph Eggleston Johnston surrendered to General William Tecumseh Sherman.

As a veteran of the war in the old Republic of Viet Nam, I enjoy pointing out how history repeated itself.

In the Eighteen Sixties, the North invaded the South, my ancestor fought for the South, and the South lost.

In the Nineteen Sixties, the North invaded the South, I fought for the South, and the South lost.

In Seventeen Seventy-Six, the Thirteen Colonies seceded from England, were called “traitors” and “rebels”, and when they were invaded, had to fight a war to obtain their independence.

In Eighteen Sixty-One, eleven Southern states seceded from the Union, were called “traitors” and “rebels”, and when they were invaded, were forced to fight for independence.

It’s too bad folks are so quick to jump on the popular bandwagon, and don’t bother to look at historical facts, such as Abraham Lincoln’s published statements regarding slavery.

By the way, I display the Confederate Naval Jack (its correct designation) prominently on my pickup truck.

Nadia FYI I do not like it when people put a foriegn flag over the Stars and stripes.
In fact their was a function in our town where an ethnic group placed another countries flag higher than our flag and I made my displeasure known.

Two wrongs do not make a right. I personally have never seen someone display the Isil flag anywhere.I have never seen it sold either. I definitely have never seen it displayed on a government office.
There was a time in this country that women were not allowed to vote. The suffrage movement started in the 1800s and women did not earn voting rights till the 1920s. Go back and read dissenting opinions of the time. They talked about the “evil youngsters” ruining this great country.
No generation has a monopoly on patriotism.Post 9/11 how many thousands of men and women volunteered to defend this great country? They may not think like you but they are American in every sense of the word.
For me America is that shining beacon of light that President Reagan talked about. We were never great because we were tge most powerful but because of our commitment to democracy and freedom.

It seems the fact that the murdered were ‘CHRISTIANS’ is never brought up. How do we know that wasn’t the real motive for the killing? It’s the real motive all around the world, but that’s also ignored by the media, isn’t it?

theShadow on June 27, 2015 at 1:47 pm

R u kidding me shadow? We know what his real motives we’re because he told everyone in writing that was as plain as day.he openly talked about and used imagery of white supremacists.
the same way we knew about Isil’S reasons for killing it was their own words

Sanjay Bhardwaj on June 27, 2015 at 6:35 pm

OK, so why choose a Christian Church? I’m betting that along with his racist streak he had some anti-Christian feelings too. Of course it could just be that unarmed people make a great target. Note the coward didn’t go after some Black Panthers or other militant group.

theShadow on June 27, 2015 at 8:41 pm

I didn’t ask you anything about Ronald Reagan, Sanjay. If you think that what makes this country great is the stifling of someone’s opinion while foisting yours on them, well, then I guess that’s the new american version of democracy and freedom.
My point was that many people who want to prohibit flying the stars and bars also feel that it is their right under the Constitution to burn the American Flag. So, which is it? Freedom of speech to burn a flag, but prohibit other peoples’ display of another symbol?
Abhorrent speech is protected under the Constitution. Get used to it like I had to.

The confederate flag, the nazi flag and today the Daesh flag are all symbols of oppression, savagery, and hate that have no business being waved by any government!
Take the time to watch the video below…. Some real truth

Hu Man on June 27, 2015 at 10:46 pm

Comparing the confederate flag to the nazi flag and the Daesh flag makes you a very ignorant Hu Man. The Confederate Naval Jack never did or will stand for what the other two do, not by a long shot. In comparison you downplay the total evil the others stand for.

theShadow on June 27, 2015 at 11:18 pm

With certain stores removing the Naval Jack and similar themed confederate articles from sale I can see a lot of smarter online sellers loading their pockets with money. Good for them and screw the ignorant bandwagoneers.

theShadow on June 28, 2015 at 1:20 am

Given that Jeb Bush and Lindsay Gramm both took the initiative in dissing the Confederate flag, it’s a bit much to expect 2 non-Whites – Nikki Haley and Tim Scott – to support the flag in that environment

I wouldn’t be surprised to one day see McCain and Gramm both switch parties, like Lincoln Chafee & Arlen Specter

Infidel on June 28, 2015 at 10:39 am

Debbie
Any Arab or Muslim country flag represent much worse than the Confederate flag.
African can barely feed themselves these days what do you think was occurring in 1700s and they could have been sent to Muslim countries.
Are far more whites killed by blacks in USA than the other way around? Did Obama attend any of these people funerals? Did Obama talked about random violence when Muslim killed Jews in France. These people are running away from Europe but Obama talks about poor Jamil in his speech. USA is lost.

madman on June 28, 2015 at 9:08 pm

This entire confederate flag “controversy” is simple an irrelevant distraction designed to deflect attention away from the more real and serious issue of black on black crimes and black on white hate crimes—all of which statistically demonstrate that white on black hate crimes are very rare indeed. Indeed, they are so rare by comparison that they are virtually a complete non-issue, even though the media, of course, greatly magnifies their significance, and has a virtual blackout on the far more prevalent black on black and black on white hate crimes.

And, of course, all of this posturing and pontificating from the White House serves to perpetuate the fraud committed on Americans and to help keep them in the dark.

Why doesn’t Obama acknowledge his own family’s roots—and I’m referring to his family history of slave-ownership? Obama hasn’t once conveyed any shame about that history, and, in fact, his failure to address his history demonstrates that he’s proud of it.

Yes, the history goes back quite a ways, but the very reason that Obama exists today as a political entity is because of his slave-owning relatives, who made him what he is today. Obama’s great-great-great-great grandfathers, George Washington Overall, owned two slaves who were recorded in the 1850 census in Nelson County, Kentucky, and those same records show that one of Obama’s great-great-great-great-great-grandmothers, Mary Duvall, also owned two slaves. The records show that Overall, then 30, owned a 15-year-old black female and a 25-year-old black male, while Mary Duvall, his mother-in-law, owned a 60-year-old black man and a 58-year-old black woman. (Slaves are listed in the 1850 census by owner, age, “sex,” and “colour,” not by name.)

And Michelle Obama’s relatives were also slave-owners. Michelle Obama’s original Irish ancestor has been traced and named as Andrew Shields, an Irish immigrant who fought in the American Revolution as a Georgia resident. Andrew Shields was Michelle Obama’s great-great-great-great-great-great-grandfather and his family was slave owners.

Why don’t the leftists and the Obamas figure out a way to make amends for their slave-owning ancestors? Perhaps the Obamas could start by liquidating their multi-million bank accounts and paying reparations. And why doesn’t the media hound the Obamas about doing something about it. That would be far more productive than this useless leftist discussion of confederate flags.

Ralph Adamo on June 29, 2015 at 12:16 am

There is a lot of to do over the Confederate Battle Flag, but a lot of Black Americans have no problem with it and, in fact see it for what it is, and it is no racism. In my opinion, it is nothing more than another way for the usual agitators to create a crisis to hide what their true own agenda. We all did forget about the TPA didn’t we.

Our national media doesn’t want you to know about the African Americans, fighting to keep the flag flying…. this movement is bigger than you think….

Richard John Bartley
What the Confederate Flag means to One Black American

The Confederate Battle Flag represents racism…. I don’t think so. I for one know the history and I’m from the North and married to an Alabama girl for the last 36 years. The red, white and blue stand for the same as our US flag. Red= valor, blue= justice and white for purity. The stars are the 13 original colonies. Not far from ours today. The difference lies in the interpretation. First it was never a state flag. It was designed as a battle flag for the southern states. The X is the main difference. It represents the south wanting out of the Union after the northern aggression to push their laws on the south. It was the succession movement which is what lead to the civil war. It never had or represented race or racism, slavery or even white supremacy that some believe it did. Simply their wanting to leave the union… Please do your own research. People need to actually read a history book! Something that teachers do not teach and politicians with hidden agendas continue to destroy historic documents so they can pass their agendas. Which is continuing to enslave the people by taking away our ability to be free people. What I mean by that, they use our tax dollars to live like royalty, They love big government because they can hide from accountability. Meanwhile they do everything possible to keep us from gaining financial security. IRS, Taxes, USDA, FDA, EPA, and every government agency is like a leech and sucking every dollar out of our wallets. You want to abolish something- get rid of the government control that is in our lives. They are not allowing the people to be free. Stop voting for these politicians that vote for their buddies and making themselves millionaires while screwing the people.

We need people for the people. We need to stop allowing these people to live off our hard work.
