Norman Lear, the TV legend, anticipated many of these trends, especially the feminizing of men. Say what you will about Norman Lear’s politics, I think it’s fair to say that he had an extraordinary sense of future trends in American culture. Though some would say that Lear’s shows helped to make some self-fulfilling prophecies, I believe that is overstating what he accomplished.

In one of his shows called “All That Glitters,” now largely forgotten, Lear foresaw the decline of the male role in the family and in society. This soap opera style sitcom consisted of 65 episodes and aired between April 18 and July 15, 1977. The show dealt with a group of executives at Globatron corporation and the twist of the series was that it was set within a world of complete role-reversal: Women were the “stronger sex,” the executives and breadwinners, while the “weaker sex” – the men – were the secretaries or stay-at-home househusbands. Men were often treated as sex objects.

The series features Eileen Brennan, Greg Evigan, Lois Nettleton (once one of Frank Sinatra’s favorite girlfriends and whom he also nearly married), Gary Sandy, Tim Thomerson and Jessica Walter. Comic actor Chuck McCann was also a regular. Interestingly, Linda Gray played a transgender fashion model, Linda Murkland, the first transgender series regular on American television.

The show didn’t last long, though, because men didn’t like how they were depicted, and even the feminists were concerned about how women were depicted when they had their new found power and influence. You could say that the show was simply ahead of its time.

I disagree that Muslims are “hyper-masculine”. Indeed there are sexuality issues starting from the earliest days regarding both women and the same sex.

Just as America is not now what it once was, Taxin’s home town may not have remained what it once was. If Taxin is Jewish, that trumps everything else anyhow. Maybe his family’s old home town was good once his family and the like arrived and not so great after they left. Sound familiar?

Knowledge and intelligence trumps sex, even if one is still sexy, as Schlussel has demonstrated. Some women have balls and grab them when they are needed.

Without knowledge, lets say regarding the history, diktats and the Darwinianly perfected followers of Islam, most guys have no idea what to do with their balls.

Sorry to be OT, but do you have any further info on the man that ran over a crowd in Austria in his car over the weekend? All the papers would say was that he was “Bosnian.” Is that a euphemism for muslim in this case?

Not sure why the social custom of the woman automagically having to lose her surname and take on that of the husband is needed to assert “masculinity”, cultural or personal.

To me, it smacks of muslim disregard and oppression of women by being treated like property of the man.

At one time, I hated my father so much, very much estranged, I told myself when I got married, I was going to take her name, to end my father’s, I loathed him so.

I’ve since calmed down, as this was yrs ago, in fact, I visited him in the hospital earlier today.
