More on Bob Novak: Hardly Conservative; Plus, Bob Grant, the Idiot & Newsbusters Whitewash anti-Novak Stuff

By Debbie Schlussel

As I remarked yesterday, it’s really disgusting–the hypocrisy of so many conservatives, whitewashing the late Robert Novak, completely ignoring his pro-HAMAS, pro-PLO, anti-Semitic rantings and ravings.  The entire conservative blogosphere is rampant with it, and with that they’ve written an epitaph for their ability to ever again criticize a liberal who expresses those same anti-Semitic, pro-HAMAS ravings.  Yes, they are hypocrites.  And shameless.

Since they’re lying to you about Novak and whitewashing the complete picture, what else are they hiding from you on other issues and topics?

robertnovak2

Conservatives Continue to Shill for a Jew-Hating HAMASnik

That includes Newsbusters.org, the outfit owned by Brent Bozell.  His employee, Brent Baker, wrote a gushing piece on Novak, and when one of my readers posted a link to my piece on Novak’s HAMAS support and hatred of Israel, Baker erased it and kept erasing it when it was posted again by me, saying that because Novak died we should ignore all the negative things he may have done.  Hmmm . . . will he do that when Jimmy Carter dies?  Don’t bet on it.  Newsbuster’s tagline is “Exposing Liberal Media Lies.”  They need to amend that to add, “And Telling Conservative Ones.”  “Newsbusters”?  Hilarious.  More like, Newsspinnersandobfuscators.

But as Sultan Knish points out in a great piece, Robert Novak wasn’t even a conservative.  He was for illegal immigration and alien amnesty and compared those of us who were against these to apartheid supporters.  And he was a promoter of Louis Farrakhan, the Nation of Islam’s loony leader.  And there’s so much more.  The Sultan’s piece is a MUST READ.  Unlike most conservatives, he actually did his homework on Novak.  Also a Must Read, the only other prominent conservative with the guts to tell the truth on Novak, Diana West (who is not Jewish, I might add).  She gets it!

And finally, there is the incompetent, boring, octogenarian failed New York radio host with nine lives, Bob Grant.  The guy is “only” 80 but he sounds like  180.  And he doesn’t do his homework.  This morning, I made the mistake of agreeing to be on his schlocky online radio show.  Unfortunately, next month, this incompetent old fool will yet again have a radio show on Sundays on WABC.  (I guess they needed to shore up that prized 80-95 demographic of hip, hot-roddin’ seniors.)   It’s the second time I’ve done his show (and the last), and it’s clear he’s got many screws loose, that Alzheimer’s or dementia long ago set in with this guy.  He’s one of the worst radio hosts I’ve ever heard.  No, THE worst.

Without bothering to read my column on Novak (or do the tiniest bit of show prep ‘cuz that would actually make the show a tad interesting), he asked me about Novak’s death.  I said the guy was a HAMAS supporter, Israel-hater, and anti-Semite.  Grant didn’t care and said, “But he was a giant.”  BFD.  Who cares if an anti-Semite is a “giant”? That makes it right?  Jimmy Carter is a “giant” in some liberals’ minds.  And he says the same stuff Novak said.

When I talked about all of this stuff, Bob Grant said he wasn’t aware of Novak’s support for HAMAS or anti-Israel sentiment and didn’t believe me.  Well, dude, I can’t be responsible for the fact that you’re 80 years old, don’t bother to read or do show prep on your guests, and are completely clueless and not all there.  Since he couldn’t respond to any of the things I was saying, he first called me, “cheap”–yeah, Bob, insult the messenger, when you don’t have a clue how to respond to facts; that’s what’s really cheap.

Then, he said he was “disappointed” in me.  I told him I was disappointed in him that he was not only completely uninformed but that he excused support for HAMAS and Israel-hatred that he’d pounce on if a liberal said it.  Since he couldn’t respond to that he just said he just wanted to move on and repeated that he was soooo “disappointed” in me.  Wimp.  I said, no, I think we need to address this, and he wouldn’t repeatedly calling me names. Then he said there’s no point in having me on (because, hey, why have facts and information?).  So, I hung up.

Yes, this is the guy–I just learned by googling, something he doesn’t have a clue how to do–who called Black people “savages” on his WABC radio show (and didn’t get fired for it).  I can only imagine what he says about Jews when no one’s listening.  And I won’t be doing his show again . . . ever.  Assuming he’s still alive.

Bill P., the one listener, who has time to waste to listen to this–as we say in Yiddish–alta kaker [a very uncomplimentary way of saying he’s an old fool], Bob Grant, left this comment:

Thanks again Debbie for not budging an inch with Bob Grant this morning!

Took him to the woodshed!

Calls himself a pro yet was completely unprepared.

And he sent this e-mail:

From:  Bill P.
Date: Wed, Aug 19, 2009 at 8:26 AM
Subject: The Bob Grant UBA Thing: EXCELLENT
To: writedebbie@gmail.com

Hello Debbie
Way to go. Proud of you. You stunned Bob Grant!!
Thanks!
I was surprised by his lack of facts.

Thanks Again, Debbie!!!

Bill P.

You and me both, Bill.

Not stunning, though, is the hypocrisy of the most prominent voices on the right–NRO, Michelle Malkin, Hot Air, Newsbusters, etc., who are really tolerant of Jew-hatred after all (despite their protestations to the contrary).  The anti-Semite just has to be on “their side” of the aisle.

This is why you are just about the only one I trust to tell it like it is. How these other so called conservatives on Talk Radio, Fox News and Hot Air can write a book(s) and people follow them like sheep is beyond me. Something is going on behind the scenes. I wish you would write a book, and expose these hypocrites for what they are. You would reach a wider audience and I would send copies to every liberal I know to give them palpitations.

One Irish Jew on August 19, 2009 at 10:48 am

I don’t want Debbie to write a book. I am certain it would be a great book, one well worth reading. Unfortunately it would make her spend less time on this site and that is why I am opposed to it.

    I_AM_ME on August 19, 2009 at 11:26 am

I’m with you. Novak was a vicious anti-Semite who libelled the Jewish people and Israel in particular. William Bennett was praising his conversion to Catholicism this morning! I like Bennett, but he is wrong on this one – wrong. Novak would have made a far better Moslem!

JulieJ on August 19, 2009 at 10:57 am

There is unfortunately a great willingness by some to give the people they think are on “our side”, a pass. I don’t particularly believe in speaking ill of the dead… but it’s important to show honesty, particularly when conservatives. When Jews on the left such as Forman pen pieces demanding that conservatives have the intellectual honesty to admit what Novak stood for, it is important that there be people like you who show that Novak is no more acceptable to us, than Carter should be to them.

Sultan Knish on August 19, 2009 at 11:02 am

Re: Julie

I think it was the late Senator Moynihan who after Novak’s conversion said, “Well, Novak is now a Catholic. The question is: when will he become a Christian?”

Sultan Knish on August 19, 2009 at 11:04 am

You know Deb, I’m not sure he was well liked by, anyone. I’ve never seen such a weak display of refection and remembrance from the media.

KrazyKafir on August 19, 2009 at 11:05 am

I have been Googling “Bob Novak” and Hamas, and I have seen links mentioning an article written in 2003 by David Frum where he apparently criticized “Unpatriotic Conservatives” including Bob Novak. Part of the criticism includes Novak’s support for Hezbullah. I have seen this article criticized by other conservatives. Here is a link to that article:

Deb, When it was announced that Ted Kennedy had cancer, my attitude was: I won’t cry, and I won’t laugh. I won’t miss him at all. In 1969 he left a woman to die a lonely, horrible death. He lived another 40 years, and would probably die surrounded by loved ones, having received the best medical care his $$$$ could buy.

When I posted my feelings – on conservative forums – I was blasted for having no compassion. It was as if people – conservatives – were trying to outdo each other in the ‘I can be more forgiving than you!’ department.
When I mentioned Chappaquiddick, the rebuke was: “How would you know what happened that night? YOU WEREN’T THERE!”
I was even banned from a little green website.

If what you’re saying about Novak is true (and it appears so), then anyone who is praising him now should be ashamed of themselves.
When Ted Kennedy croaks (Jimmy Carter, too!), we’ll see a great many people falling all over themselves, spouting what a great leader he was.

It really bothers me that we set such a bad example for younger generations when we pat people on the back who really don’t deserve it. We should set better examples for our children. We’re showing young people that you can be a lowlife….a drunk….an adulterer….and people will still say nice things about you when you die. All will be forgiven.

I think that sucks.

G: As you point out, they are hypocrites and phonies . . . about everything. When Jimmy Carter dies, I can’t wait to see what they do. Will they lie about him like they did Bob Novak? I don’t think so. Will they be consistent and jump on you for attacking him? I doubt it. They are hypocrites who aren’t consistent. And you just can’t believe them or look to them for accurate insight, as this whole Novak episode shows in spades. DS

guitarguy on August 19, 2009 at 11:33 am

Has anyone seen anything that Robert Novak wrote concerning the bombing of the Marine barracks in Beirut in 1983 by Hezbollah? I haven’t been able to find anything. His silence tells all. I guess it would have been hypocritical for him to criticize Hezbollah. He was such a friggin liberal, not a conservative. May his Hamas and Hezbollah defending a$$ join them wherever they are!!

J: He attacked Israel on Hezbollah, too, and America for supporting Israel in that war. He wrote several columns on it, including this one that the pro-Hezbollah, Muslim-dominated American Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee posted on their site, they loved it so much. DS

Jarhead on August 19, 2009 at 12:33 pm

Marine barracks? That’s it. May he rot in hell. I hope he enjoys hobnobbing with rapists murderers thieves, and the sounds? Weaping and wailing and gnashing of teeth for all eternity. His final destination is the Eternal Lake of Fire.

    goldenmike4393 on August 19, 2009 at 1:47 pm

Neither Debbbie and I will give up our traditional beliefs. With William Buckley gone though, the entire Right has lost its way – with few exceptions such as on the site I’m now posting to. Conservatives seem happy to overlook intolerance, bigotry and anti-Americanism, as long as the guy professing it comes from their ranks. Nauseating and revolting are adjectives far too kind to describe the rot in the movement today. The praise of Novak reminds me of the old parable about a fish rots from the head down. That’s what we’ve been witnessing in the posthumous rehabilitation of Novak.

NormanF on August 19, 2009 at 12:51 pm

I have noticed on some so-called conservative sites, the lemmings praising his conversion to Catholicism. I think Novak converted to Islam judging by his columns! I loved it when Jackie Mason went after him for his accusation that Israel had committed “atrocities” during the last Lebanon war. Novak was filled with raw hatred towards Jews, Israel and Judaism and people are looking the other way. I guess to some Catholics, all that matters is that you convert to their religion – the rest of your belief system, be damned and that is s a d!

JulieJ on August 19, 2009 at 1:16 pm

Novak should have really converted to Islam, given his identification with Hamas and Hezbollah and the rest of the take over the world Islamist crowd. For someone who wanted nothing to do with Jews and Israel, he had to make himself heard about them. Such is the twisted and strange life story of the most notorious anti-Semite of our day.

NormanF on August 19, 2009 at 1:44 pm

I had no idea it was a crime to be 80 years old. Apparently, according to Debbie, it is an offense that requires some sort of “final solution.” How dare she suggest that when no one is listening I say anti Jewish, anti Israel things. If no one is litening how would she know? Of course she doesn’t know, but the tactic she uses can be effective to people who don’t think. At any rate, Debbie did enliven my internet show and for that I must thank her. When the authorities decide I have lived long enough and take me to wherever people who have lived to long are disposed of, I shall say a brucha for Debbie.

Bob: It’s no crime to be 80 years old. There are some very, very sharp 80-year-olds. You are not one of them. You did not do the tiniest bit of show prep, you’re boring, and you’re not all there. What is a crime is to support anti-Semites, Jew-haters, and HAMASniks. And that’s what you did. And regardless of your age, you could not respond to the facts (you weren’t even familiar with them b/c you didn’t bother to prepare for the show), so instead you attacked the messenger, calling me “cheap” and trying to avoid the topic you chose. I don’t need your “brucha”s [Hebrew blessings]. I need you to get rid of your anti-Semitism, which at 80, is unlikely. As a radio host, you were not entertaining. The guest, me, was and made the show. And that’s why you shouldn’t be on the air. Time to retire. Bye. DS

Debbie…or anyone else…is there anyway to hear the radio segment you were on today regarding this…sure would like to hear it when I get the chance.

Some of the conservative sites you dare not mention any dislike, or disagreement you have of Palin, or the O BC….you get jumped on…no, piled on.

Some of us are silenced no matter which way we go…as if we don’t have our own opinion, do our own research etc.

DG: He’ll probably post it on his site tomorrow or later today. DS

This morning’s “show” is now available:

http://www.ubatv.com/Channel.aspx?Show=1b

I am a longtime Bob Grant fan. He’s gotten me thru a lot of NYC rush hour traffic. He is not anti-Israel. I really expected him to rip Novak a new one this morning. I was disappointed to say the least.

At least Novak never got cold. He went from room temperature to inferno heat.

Bill P. on August 19, 2009 at 4:22 pm

Debbie and Bill P.

Thanks for the info.

I will have to try to catch this in the morning or later tonight.

Diamond Girl on August 19, 2009 at 5:39 pm

Bob Grant had his time in the 1970’s when he was fun to listen to. Not any more. He really should just plain retire.

Hannibal on August 20, 2009 at 10:56 am

The show blew me away. I’ve been a fan of Bob’s and I must admit, you had him on the ropes with Bob Novak’s antisemitism.
As a loyal Bob Grant fan, I won’t change my feelings about Bob.
He has his opinions and took heat many times for it. I respect your opinions as well. You more than made your point about Mr. Novak. Although I can’t mend fences between you & Bob, I’ll respect both your opinions equally as long as they don’t conflict with mine. See, even I can be disagreeable about some things. It’s human nature.

Tom NJ on August 20, 2009 at 9:33 pm

Bob has a long history of being nasty to his own fans. He used to scream at me and I stopped listening to him for a long time because of that. As for Novak, I wrote a letter to National Review telling them they should think of Novak’s odious history of anti-Semitism.

JulieJ on August 21, 2009 at 12:55 pm

Julie, I bet dollars to donuts they deleted your comment over at National Review. William F. Buckley’s flagship magazine saw better days. No more.

NormanF on August 26, 2009 at 4:31 pm

Calling Bod Grant a “failed New York radio host” is like calling the Wright Brothers failed aviators. I’ve listened to Grant for 30 years and he’s always been a staunch supporter of Isreal and the Jewish people.

Novak and Sobran. The Doublescum Twins.

Occam's Tool on December 23, 2010 at 1:35 pm

Facebook sends me sources I never knew existed, but which do often produce thought provoking interactions. Abramoff and Novak were semitic, and so for
that matter are the arabs last time I looked.. Why they were allowed to persist in the first case being a crook and the second a nasty disagreeable churl for the sole reason they might have been critical of leftists is regrettable. Buchanan though a Wasp has lost most of his conservative creds long ago. Norquist I hadn’t connected but, frankly, why would any Swede court a Muslim skank anyway? Apart from complexions the Swedes are as unpassionate and freewheeling as the Arabics are dogmatic and narrowminded…Sooo sorry to stereotype…NOT.

George Gallo on May 19, 2011 at 8:11 pm

I offer a Robert Novak anecdote.

Back around 1984, I watched a segment of the CNN talk show, “Crossfire,” with Novak speaking from the Right and Tom Braden speaking from the Left. The subject was the Middle East. Novak at one point in the show referred to Yassir Arafat and his fellow “Palestinian freedom fighters.” I was stunned. “Freedom fighters!” That’s a new one. The segment might be on YouTube or some other site.
