HUH?! Muslims Offended by “Hump Day” Camel; Minnesota U Apologizes to Them

By Debbie Schlussel

A perpetually OUTRAGED! group of people are upset over a camel at a Midwest university. And it’s not PETA (a/k/a PUTAh–People for the Unethical Treatment of Animals and humans). Nope, it’s Muslims.

islamiccrescent.jpgcamelkiss

So, let’s see. They’re offended by pigs. They’re offended by co-ed public gyms. They’re offended by pictures and reminders of Bin Laden, who murdered thousands of Americans IN THE NAME OF ISLAM. And, now, they’re offended by “Hump Day” camels. I’m losing track of everything that offends them. Perhaps a shorter list of what does not would be easier to compute. What is the most offensive about this ridiculous episode–the latest in America’s ever-growing cowering to Muslims’ every absurd grievance–is that the university apologized. Can you imagine a university apologizing to the German-American Bund during World War II for serving frankfurters (that’s “hot dogs” for those of you in Dearbornistan) at a picnic? Note to easily pissed-off Muslims: the slur about you is “camel jockeys,” not “camels.” (And in some instances, also “camel toe.”)

Oh, and one other thing: note that the article doesn’t mention two key words that are the raison d’etre for the whole story . . . Muslims and Islam. The only hint of what actually happened here is the brief note that angry students said the camel is “religiously” or “racially” motivated. (As I always ask, um, what race is Islam? Also, what religion are camels?)

The University of St. Thomas has been getting some negative attention after a camel was scheduled to come to the St. Paul campus for “Hump Day.” The animal was set to come Wednesday for a petting zoo put on by the Residence Hall Association, but the idea was met with backlash from students and St. Thomas canceled the event.

The camel was going to be rented from a vendor north of St. Paul. The event was meant to make light of what is known as “Hump Day” to help relieve stress for students as they study for exams, said school spokesman Jim Winterer.

But instead of posting selfies with the camel on Instagram, some angry students protested on Facebook and blogs. . . . The university didn’t think anything of the petting zoo at first, Winterer said. The school brought in a reindeer in December at the end of first semester and the event was well-received, Winterer said. Some students said . . . . the event was a form of animal cruelty and disrespectful to the animal. Others felt it was racially or religiously motivated.

Winterer said the school’s reason for canceling the event was after all the hype, “it wasn’t going to be fun anymore.” Winterer gave the following statement on behalf of the university:

“The Residence Hall Association, a student organization at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minn., arranged to bring a camel to campus from a vendor located north of St. Paul on May 14 for an end-of-semester, petting-zoo-type event for students. When the event was announced, some students wrote Facebook comments protesting the visit, suggesting the event would not be a good use of funds, would promote a negative carbon footprint, and would remove an animal from its “natural habitat.”

It was never the university’s intent to make a political or cultural statement of any kind by bringing a camel to campus. In light of the negative comments, it was clear that the camel’s visit would no longer be simply a fun, stress-reducing activity for students as originally intended. At that point, the university decided to cancel the event.”

I agree that the camel is a stupid idea. But more stupid is the wimpy reaction to angry Muslims’ typical hyperbolic rage over anything benign that we evil infidels do.

Reader K:

This is the “Catholic” university that is full of prayer rooms for Muslims. Apparently petting a camel insults Islam. I attended this school for two semesters in the 80s and later worked at the Divinity School (the seminary) for a few years. I am really disgusted. Thanks for all you do, Debbie!

Yup, I’m disgusted, too. But extremely jaded now because you know that there is no level of ludicrous to which this mass grievance theater troupe parading as a religion won’t stoop. And no level to which we won’t bend over backward (and forward) to appease them.

Uh-huh. If these appeasers-in-chief were around in 1944, you’d be saluting Hitler, and I would never exist because the rest of my family would have been cooked in the ovens.

G-d save this dying nation.

***

Don’t forget, this is a religion whose adherents typically slaughter and eat camels. And other unspeakable things to the animals when they are alive (including “Hump Day” minus the “Day” part). (Do a google images search on Muslims and camels.) Pot. Kettle. Muslims. Black.

“this mass grievance theater troupe parading as a religion”

Artfully put.

I am in Minnesota and when I read this….I was ashamed of this state. Of course, we are also the state [Minneapolis to be exact] that closed the pool at a YMCA so a few muslim girls could be “protected” while hundreds of paying members were barred from even using the changing room. This state is in chaos with the muslims [almost exclusively somali’s].

Sean on May 19, 2014 at 2:58 pm

What race or species is Islam? Camels spit, kick, and bite. Maybe that does describe the typical Muslim?

Worry01 on May 19, 2014 at 3:14 pm

Interesting article and source Debbie, but for the love of pete, the camel is racially and religiously motivated by hate? WTF! If these folks have any iota in their brain-cells (which they don’t, but stuck on stupid and being brainwashed), they would’ve known that camels have exist in Middle Eastern regions for centuries and generations, LONG before the Arabs invented Islam. As a matter of fact, the “Arab-Pagans” (who were well educated, progressive, freethinking, etc.) used camels in the Greater Arabia region (nowadays, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman, etc.) for mainly transportation issues to move around, etc. So how does the camel represent Islam and Muslims, and that specie has around before Islam was produced into society?

Sean R. on May 19, 2014 at 3:29 pm

Sorry, Deb, you are wrong on this one. I actually understand why the Arabs and Somalis would be upset with a camel on campus. It reminds them of their mothers. (the spitting, the cud chewing, the facial similarities, the number of times it has been petted, etc.)

Jonathan E. Grant on May 19, 2014 at 3:32 pm

I’ve officially run out of words.

Laura S. on May 19, 2014 at 3:50 pm

I am offended by their offense!

john on May 19, 2014 at 4:27 pm

I think Debbie is wrong, and the Arab and Somali Muslims have a right to be offended. You see, the camel reminds them of their mother–the camel spits, chews its cud, is ugly, defecates all over the place and enjoys being petted by everyone…just like their mother.

Jonathan E. Grant on May 19, 2014 at 4:27 pm

    Jon –

Then there are Iranian Muslims outraged that Iranian actress Leila Hatami’s being kissed on the cheek by a man and her choice of clothing runs counter to Islamic “modesty.”

This is the same religion that sanctions fake marriages to legitimize prostitution and rape. But simple human courtesy offends them.

They are hypocrites and its to folks like them that we sell our last shred of dignity and self-respect. We should tell them to mind their own business and to stuff their 7th Century hate cult where the sun don’t shine.

NormanF on May 19, 2014 at 6:39 pm

Don’t forget the mohammedans believe that drinking the camel’s urine has medicinal benefits

    Tommy S on May 20, 2014 at 12:38 pm

“I’m losing track of everything that offends them. Perhaps a shorter list of what does not would be easier…”

That’s absolutely correct. Here, I’ll start:

Things that don’t offend muslims:

1. Pedophilia
2. Stoning women
3. Hanging gays
4. Mass murder
5. Slavery

DS_ROCKS! on May 19, 2014 at 4:27 pm

Of course, there is that old joke, “Why are camels considered the ships of the desert? Because they are filled with Arab semen (seamen)!

Why isn’t sex ed and driver’s ed taught on the same day in Arab countries? Because the camels would get too tired!!

What’s the difference between an Arab and a camel? One is ugly, useless, spits a lot, is stubborn, and urinates and defecates where it stands, and the other is a camel.

Jonathan E. Grant on May 19, 2014 at 4:31 pm

As Albert Einstein famously said, insanity is “doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.” Thus, when college officials cower in fear over the ridiclous accusations that the camel is “offensive,” they reward the self-appointed arbiters of politically correct conduct, and they encourage them to do more of the same, further chilling free speech.

(Of course, hypocritically, the college officials are perfectly fine with the pro-BDS crowd. The principle isn’t about what is offensive. It depends on who is being offended in their book. Free speech is a very selective thing, you see.)

Here’s another good take on this camel story:

Ralph Adamo on May 19, 2014 at 6:14 pm

Duhhh, its da joos.

Eric on May 19, 2014 at 6:41 pm

I believe there is a phase “The definition of Hell is the absence of reason”.

Time for the ACLU to defend the poor Camels from abuse. No more Hump days I guess. I would not be surprised if we could not say the phrase “Hump Day” in the near future, lest there be a backlash from the PC thought police.

Peter on May 19, 2014 at 6:43 pm

Peter, “Hump Day” is offensive to women, because that denotes a man and woman having sex, which of course is always forced upon a woman on a college campus; thus, “hump day” promotes rape, at least to the PC crowd.

Now, let cooler heads prevail and remember Mel Brooks playing Louis XVI in History of the World when he says, “Hump or death, hump or death, hump or death.”

Jonathan E. Grant on May 19, 2014 at 8:21 pm

Time to light up a camel, like Obama’s mentor would have advised.

Little Al on May 19, 2014 at 7:36 pm

I love that commercial where the camel is walking through the offices excitedly asking people if they know what day it is.

It’s hump day! hahahaha I love it!

Red Randy on May 19, 2014 at 8:25 pm

I’m surprised the Muslims haven’t gone after whatever company that is! Doesn’t corporate America know that Islam has now (apparently) adopted the camel as an official religious symbol?

Have these people ever hesrd of the concept, “If you don’t like the event, don’t go?” Instead they prefer to get everyone else to kowtow to their demands. I really don’t understand why ANY Muslim students would choose to attend a Catholic university in the first place except to whine and moan about how they aren’t “inclusive” enough. The University of St. Thomas isn’t exactly Harvard.

Years ago I graduated from a Christian college. We had two students from Qatar, both Muslim, both allegedly part of Qatari royalty. (This was back in the day when we could call them “camel jockeys” with impunity.) They both salivated at all of the beautiful blonde girls at the college, and hit on us constantly. I never could figure out how two rich guys from the Middle East got so lost that they ended up at a Christian college in Michigan.

MIGirl on May 20, 2014 at 12:09 pm

Since the First Amendment offends Muslims, let’s trash it. Ditto for the rest too.

Mike on May 19, 2014 at 9:00 pm

Debbie,

This is a form of asymmetric warfare; it is leveraging the innocuous to create tension and a demand for concessions. If such demands are not met, then more “radical” (read here “violent”) measures can be pursued. Diversity-oriented post-modernists do not know how to respond to such tactics. We are in such deep trouble… it is frightening.

I’m really getting sick and tired of hearing how Muslims are so offended about everything. It’s getting so that I need a Karl Rove whiteboard to keep up with the list. So now they are offended with the camel? Man the jokes just write themselves on this one. Tell you what camel jockeys since everthing under the sun offends you how about I give you a small list of what offends me about you.

1993 World Trade Center Bombing
1996 Khobar Towers Bombing
2000 Uss Cole (DDG-67) attack. This one is really a sore spot for me you jackasses because not only did I serve on this type of ship but I had friends on the Cole.
2001 9-11
2009 Fort Hood Shooting.

Now we all know that this is just a short list but I just want to tell those offended Muslims something. You all can go have a big cup of STFU and stop crying about camels, co-ed swimming pools, 9-11 memorials, Gitmo and other stupid crap. Deal with the attrocities that your crazy bretheren have caused and stop making excuses for them. Until then you will continue to get joked on my me. Have a nice day.

Ken b on May 20, 2014 at 3:32 pm

LOL@ Tolerance

Like the tolerance you Republican scum showed toward Muslims who wanted to build a Mosque in NY?

Perhaps before you preach about the subject you should follow your own words. I understand that will be hard for you considering you’re a foaming at the mouth racist, but really, at least try.

swizzle on May 20, 2014 at 6:36 pm

Swizzle, you have a point regarding the mosque.

The real error was to allow Mooooslims into this country in the first place, let alone to allow their numbers to increase massively after 9/11. However, the Republicans have been as bad as the Dems in this error.

The good news will be when the next terror attack hits New York. It couldn’t happen to a more deserving place.

    Peace.

skzion on May 22, 2014 at 12:34 pm

I never thought the “hump day” ad was particularly funny, but a lot of people did, so it has a life of its own. Wednesday is known as “hump day” because it’s the halfway mark of the work week, and that’s offensive to Islam and/or Muslims. And camels have humps, and that’s offensive to Islam and/or Muslims. And having a camel represent halfway through the week is offensive to Islam and/or Muslims. But murdering your teenage daughter because she has a non-Muslim boyfriend celebrates Allah. Why, in God’s world, are we such wimps to this insanity?

gmartinz on May 21, 2014 at 11:37 pm

So, camels represent the race and religion of Muslims? Is that a back door admission of Islamic bestiality? 😉

Worry on November 11, 2014 at 7:47 pm

If they r offended by all we (Americans) do, the solution is for them to leave OUR country and go back to THEIRS. We need not and should change for anyone. They (all immigrant guests) should assimilate or be compelled to go home. I am offended that anyone has the audacity to ask us to change for them!

Susa on April 13, 2016 at 8:48 pm

That should read
“Should NOT” change for anyone. Oops.
