Noted Anti-Semite Dead: Conservatives & Pat Buchanan Lament Friend of HAMAS, Robert Novak; Couldn’t Answer My Israel Questions

By Debbie Schlussel

****  SCROLL DOWN &/or Click Full Post Link for UPDATE  ****

You won’t see me among the many conservatives crying over the passing of noted anti-Semite and open friend of HAMAS, Robert Novak.  I couldn’t care less if he was a conservative.  That makes his open anti-Semitism and wish for Israel’s death no less offensive, no less noxious, no less disgusting.  (I had my own personal encounter with him and his anti-Israel baloney.  More on that below.)

robertnovak2antiisrael

Robert Novak, “Prince of Darkness”:

Noted Jew-Hater is Dead

And spare me the “give it time until he’s been buried” and forgotten BS.  This needs to be said–and it needs to be said now, while a bunch of ignoramuses on the right are lamenting this “great man,” who wasn’t great at all, as some sort of saint he wasn’t (predictably among these is Michelle Malkin, who is telling people to ignore the truth about Novak–she did something similar with Islamic terrorist lover and enabler Henry Hyde, and she also did it with Hezbollah’s and Arafat’s fave criminal thug Congressman, Darrell Issa;  also predictable, complete ignoramus Ed Morrissey who works for Malkin, praised Obama’s sickening speech to the Muslim world, and constantly panders to pan-Muslim Grover Norquist).

All of them who praised and more than tolerated Novak in life are either the same ones who would jump all over liberals and lefties who said the same anti-Semitic, pro-HAMAS garbage he uttered.  Or they are anti-Semites of a similar stripe, like Sean Vannity’s friend, pro-Hitler Pat Buchanan (the Vietnam War draft dodger who claimed Jews didn’t fight in America’s wars; tell it to my cousin, who was served multiple tours in Iraq and Afghanistan, and my dad, who proudly served during Vietnam while Pat Buchanan dodged the draft).

Sorry he had cancer and died.  But that doesn’t erase for a single second who Robert Novak really was in life and good health.  In fact, Novak was a vessel of hate–hatred for Jews (he was one but hated us so much he converted away), hatred of Israel, and love for Hate, Inc. a/k/a HAMAS and every other Islamic terrorist group he openly and happily embraced on CNN’s “Crossfire” when he hosted it, in his columns, and to anyone who would listen.

He shamelessly announced on “Crossfire”:

There are many Americans who support HAMAS, and I am one of them.

In a 2007 appearance on “Charlie Rose” on PBS, he attacked “the Jewish Community” and its “influence” on “both parties.”  He said he agreed with all of the vehemently anti-Israel columns written by his former partner Roland Evans.

Israel. We—the “Evans and Novak” columns—we ran hundreds of columns critical of Israel, all of them written by Rolly Evans. But I agreed with him. . . . Rolly became very committed on the issue.

Full transcript here.

Here’s more of Bob Novak’s scintillating gems, from his syndicated column and elsewhere:

*  On 9/11, Novak blamed Israel for the attacks, saying it “had the most to gain.”  Just two days after the 9/11 Islamic terrorist attacks on America, Novak was the first to call the attacks “an inside job” and blamed the attacks on the U.S. relationship with Israel.

* In 2007 column, Novak wrote that Israel’s policies were “worse than apartheid,” claiming that Israel also oppressed Christians, and that the real peace-seekers were HAMAS. As if. He also called on President Bush to pressure Israel, decrying that he wasn’t.

* In a December 2001 column written less than two months after the 9/11 Islamic terrorist attacks on America, he called HAMAS terrorists, “freedom fighters.” Yup, he took his cues from CAIR and other Muslim extremists (redundant phrase).

* Former New York Mayor Ed Koch details a Novak appearance on CNN’s “Capital Gang”:

Two weekends ago, I watched ‘Capital Gang’ on CNN, featuring Robert Novak. I’ve known Novak for many years. . . . Novak has always been . . . hostile to the State of Israel.

On his Nov. 24 show, Novak went ballistic in his ill will toward Israel. While discussing the Israeli assassination of Mahmoud Abu Hanoud, a senior military leader of Hamas on the West Bank directly responsible for dozens of Israeli civilian deaths, Novak denounced Prime Minister Ariel Sharon for ordering Hanoud’s assassination. Novak’s colleague, Margaret Carlson, rightly called Hanoud a terrorist, and Novak defended him as a freedom fighter. Carlson responded, “Bob, you’re the only person who would call Hamas freedom fighters.”

“Oh, no,” Novak rejoined. “People all over the world do.”

*  In a 2007 column he said Israel was “Worse than Apartheid,” stating:

Jimmy Carter raised hackles by titling his book about the Palestinian question ‘Peace Not Apartheid.’ But Palestinians allege this is worse than the former South African racial separation.

* In December 2003, during a CNN appearance, he blamed Israel for the Iraq war (despite the fact that Israel opposed it and was forced to give concessions–i.e., Gaza–for America to get lip-service Arab support to fight it).

It’s sad that I have to cite the work of Ira Forman of the National Jewish Democratic Council on this–the “work” of Robert Novak.  But on Bob Novak, he is right, and cites far more of Novak’s outrageous comments.  And I have to cite him because no prominent conservatives or Republicans have ever had the guts to call Bob Novak on this–praising Jimmy Carter’s anti-Israel books, calling HAMAS “freedom fighters,” etc.

This is a conservative you want to lament and, in his death, exalt him to a greatness that, for him, never existed?  Good luck with that.  It makes you–all of you who regret this jerk’s passing–hypocrites.  It gives you no moral highground when the Barack Obamas and Cynthia McKinneys of this world embrace HAMAS or the idea of negotiating with Iran, HAMAS’ sponsor.

When I worked for Weekly Standard Editor Fred Barnes (then at The New Republic), and he and I would go to his weekly tapings of “McLaughlin Group,” I saw and heard Bob Novak in action with his verbal anti-Israel screeds.  You could tell he hated that he was born a Jew, that even though he converted he looked like a Jew.  He was disgusted with every Jewish aspect about him.  And that disgust carried over into his reaction toward “the Jews” and toward Israel.  Someone needed to tell him that despite his uber-outrage against us, when the Nazis came, they’d be rounding us both up for the camps and ovens.

That same summer, 1989, I attended the conservative National Journalism Center school, and Novak was a speaker.  I asked him, since he was such an anti-Communist, why he would openly support Yasser Arafat and the P.L.O.–who were sponsored and funded by the Soviets and had trained with other Communists around the world that he (Novak) hated, including Daniel Ortega’s Sandinistas, Castro’s thugs, the East Germans, etc.  I asked him, given those things, why he would side with Arafat and the PLO and oppose our only democratic, capitalist ally in the Middle East, Israel.  And I asked him to name a single other communist group he supported in the world.

He sputtered to give a response, because he and I both knew the truth:  he simply hated Jews.  Instead of openly admitting that, he struggled to come up with a credible answer on Israel and couldn’t.  So, he just mumbled something about having supported, in years past, a Turkish military junta that was Communist in its bent.

Yes, this is the real Bob Novak, a sputtering Jew hater, who may have been right on some things, but whose hatred was readily over looked by conservatives who continue to not just tolerate–but embrace and promote– this same hatred, today, from the likes of Patrick J. Buchanan (and his pro-Hitler book), Darrell Issa, and similar other malefactors on the right.

I wish I could say I want Bob Novak to rest in peace.  But if I did, I’d be lying to you.  In fact, I hope he meets some of the blown-to-bits innocent victims of HAMAS–the “peaceful” group he said he supported–on his way down under.

There won’t be any 72 virgins where he’s going, despite what his HAMAS and P.L.O. friends might have told him.  And I hope he brought his summer clothes.

It’s very hot in hell.

****  UPDATE:  One thing I forgot to put in this column, which I’ll add now:  Robert Novak desperately wanted to be a WASPy patrician like his writing partner Rowland Evans.  But even after he adopted his Jew-hating tone and converted away to Catholicism, Novak lamented that Rowland Evans never socialized with him away from work, never invited him to his fancy parties at his tony Georgetown home.  Because, you see, no matter how much Bob Novak hated himself and wanted to get away from being a Jew, his anti-Semitic partner–to whom he pandered and like whom he desperately wanted to be–still saw him as a dirty Jew.  Sometimes justice is poetic, indeed.

****  UPDATE #2:  Read more about Bob Novak’s anti-Semitism, hatred of Israel, how conservatives are whitewashing it, and how Novak was hardly conservative–supporting amnesty for illegal aliens and compared those of us who oppose that to supporter of apartheid.  Also, read about how Robert Novak was the father of 9/11 trutherism and was the first to call 9/11 “an inside job.” The truthers are mourning him.  Why are conservatives?

I have to agree with you. The man consistently slandered Israel and told multiple lies designed to bring forth hatred on the Jewish nation. I am sorry he died and I am sorry he got brain cancer which is dreadful, however that does not negate that he was a dreadful man. He also did not distinguish himself in the Plame/Libby affair.

As America was founded by Christians. The Consitution was written by Christians. The Revolutionary war was won by Christians. Anybody radically followig this basis must be phylisophically conservative. Christianity is a Judeo Christian belief. So being anti Jewish state logically could not be a true Christian or conservative. One could think of themselves as conservative if they save money and don’t waist money. But if they work to injure Isreal they are simply not conservative. America has experienced a phoney press for decades that in one way or other work to destroy America. A news person that speaks of conservative but assists the muslims who wish to destroy isreal is a dangerous phoney, and thus not conservative. This logic directly follows the standard rules of logic that are the cannons of math and logic. Thus Novak was not a conservative. So we are now able to write about his false presense after he is dead. He can not make false claims against it.

Yes, but the European Jews financed George Washington so we could establish this country. Hyman Soloman was his name. And, we repaid every penny with interest.

As a memorial, our dollar bills carry to this day a Menorah and the Star of David.

This Christian country was aided by the European Jews!

Thank you, Debbie. I couldn’t have written that better myself.

Yet, here again was a man who was widely supported by the Saudi Petrochemical Lobby. Indeed, he was one of their lead spokesmen. The sad part about Novak is that he said what so many other conservatives and State Department bureaucrats really think. Think how many times Bob Novak wrote an anti-Israel column based on a statement from an anonymous State Department official.

Robert Novak’s anti-Semitism was his first-class ticket into CNN as their representative Conservative commentator. The other conservative commentators (with the notable exception of Pat Buchanan) didn’t have a chance filling Novak’s spot. Israel-hatred was a required item on the resume of anyone seeking employment at CNN as a commentator.

Novak is dead, but his enablers are still alive and well. Let’s not forget that.

I remember when Israel liberated Southern Lebanon from the PLO (Yes, despite what is said about the so called “Israeli occupation”, the area was liberated and the residents were so happy they greeted the Israelis with Roses. Evans and Novak (We used to call them “Errors and No facts”) actually wrote an article condemning the PLO for the way they ruled Southern Lebanon. I was so shocked by they could have written such a thing I almost swallowed my tongue.

Man, you are really stupid. Jesus called Jews children of the Devil, as well as St Paul advice to not trust Jews. And for the past 2000 years until recently, conservative Christians have persecuted Jews for being Christ killers. They saw it as their biblical duty. So being anti-Jewish or anti-Israel is well within conservative Christian thought.

As for Novak, he was truly a conservative and thus earned the nickname,”Prince of Darkness”.

The Bible commands us to pray for the peace of Jerusalem (Psalm 122:6), to speak out for Zion’s sake (Isaiah 62:1), to be watchmen on the walls of Jerusalem (Isaiah 62:6) and to bless the Jewish people (Genesis 12:3).

Wow, I knew he didn’t like Jews, but I didn’t know how deep-rooted this was in him. He must have really hated himself. Thank you Debbie for opening my eyes even wider about his Jew hatred. Well, at least where he is going, he can meet up with all of his buddies.

Kudos to you for providing the more balanced overview of Robert Novak’s career. Like so many of our compatriots on the far left, he was a self hating Jew. I found his utter lack of interest in the history of what happened to Mizrahi/Sephardi Jewery under Muslim rule very telling. He was an apologist for Islamic oppression. Some might maintain that all that should be forgiven. Well, even if I might agree with some of his positions, every time I read of what has happened to the most ancient of our Jewish communities under Muslim rule, I think of the outright evil/harm his speeches and narratives contributed. Let someone else, with horseblinders as a guide, do the forgiving.

Binyamin I. Efreom on August 18, 2009 at 3:45 pm

@Norman Blitzer. Jesus did NOT call Jews children of the devil. He was Jewish himself for cryin out loud. I’m a conservative Christian and I certainly DO NOT consider Jews “Christ killers” geez I thought that stupidity died in the 70’s. I’m in total agreement with Dr. Cutburth. I disagree with you that anti-Jewish or anti-Israel is well within conservative Christian thought, since I’m both a Christian and Conservative. Please don’t presume to speak for me.
Thank You!

Folks, just bear in mind, Blitzer is this site’s most active troll. Just, keep that in mind. The stuff he “contributes” is almost always toxic.

Debbie, thanks for this article on Novak–and keeping things straight. Would that other “conservatives” would face reality–but that’s what makes you tops on my list. No fear, my dear! Thanks for telling it straight.

The most pathetic thing I saw of Novak was when he plowed that poor man with his speeding car and tried to drive off–his brain already had cancer, I think, but still this was a perverse display of his egotism.

[The syndicated columnist received a citation from police for failing to yield the right of way, after he drove away from the scene of the accident despite attempts by passers-by to stop him, Politico.com reported.

“I didn’t know I hit him,” said Novak, who was a block away from the scene when a bicyclist – who said he had to stand in front of Novak’s car to get him to stop – finally got his attention. ]

I found it. Novak became “Catholic”. Catholicism follows a the Eucharist, not the Bible… We don’t classify that church as Christian because it has substituted different doctrines for salvation.

Goldenmike1393 – you were right in the things you said with the exception of this “Every word of our Bible, every jot and every tittle, is written by a Jew. Not a Baptist among them.” I must confess I cannot prove this, but there is the distinct possibly that Luke (the author of a Gospel, and the book of Acts) was a gentile. As to whether he was a baptist or not, who can tell (sarc). Of course the Baptists as a group calling themselves by that name did not come into existence until the 1600s.

I agree with you that basically the whole Bible owes its existence to the Hebrews, but most especially it owes its existence to God.

James on August 18, 2009 at 4:45 pm

Oh, contrar! Luke was a Hebrew! Thank you for asking.

    Was Luke a Gentile?

Dr. Thomas McCall is the Senior Theologian of Zola Levitt ministries, and has written many articles for the Levitt Letter. He holds a Th.M. in Old Testament studies and a Th.D. in Semitic languages and Old Testament.

This article originally appeared in the March 1996 issue of the Levitt Letter.

As we speak and teach the Word, we often mention that the whole Bible is a Jewish book, and that all the writers of the Bible, Old and New Testaments, were Jews. Frequently, someone asks the question, “What about Luke, wasn’t he a Gentile?” This has been taught throughout church history for so long and so consistently, that it is assumed without question it must be true. However, when you study how this conclusion was reached by biblical commentators, you realize how slender their evidence is. The idea that Luke was a Gentile seems to be based more on tradition than any strong biblical evidence.

    Importance of the Question

It may not seem important whether or not Luke was a Gentile, but when you think about the magnitude of his work, the issue becomes truly significant. By counting the pages written by Luke in both his Gospel and Acts, it is clear that Luke wrote more pages of the New Testament than any other writer, including Paul and John. If Luke was a Gentile, then the Lord entrusted more pages of New Testament revelation to a Gentile than to any other writer. This would be remarkable, to say the least.

Personally, as a Gentile Christian, I would love to have one of “our guys” as a writer in the canon of Scripture, so I am naturally reluctant to find otherwise. However, the evidence appears overwhelming to me that Luke was, in fact, a Jew. The matter cannot be settled conclusively, because the Scriptures never specifically tell us Luke’s background, but the arguments for his being a Jew appear to far outweigh those for his being a Gentile.

Arguments for Luke Being A Gentile

Usually, biblical commentators simply assert that Luke was a Gentile, without offering any proof at all, as it is so universally believed. Some commentaries, though, present arguments for sustaining the concept of the Gentile background of Luke. Chief among these arguments are the lists from the Epistle to the Colossians.

    The Lists in Colossians

In Colossians 4, the Apostle Paul closes his letter by listing the various people who are with him as he writes the epistle, and some of those who are addressed. In these lists Paul makes mention of some who are of “the circumcision” (Col. 4:10-11), and are, therefore, Jews. Although it is not perfectly clear which men are referred to, they are presumably the previous three: Aristarchus, Mark and Jesus called Justus. Paul apparently does not include Tychicus and Onesimus, mentioned before in verses 7-9, as being in the circumcision group.

Later in this same chapter, in verse 14, Paul refers to Luke, the beloved physician. The argument is made that, as Luke is not mentioned in the list of those of “the circumcision”, he therefore must not be a Jew. However, this is very slim evidence, indeed. In the above reference, Paul is speaking of his fellow workers in the preaching ministry. However, Luke was not ever described as being actively involved in the work of preaching, but was rather Paul’s personal physician and historian. It would not be appropriate to put Luke in the list with those who were active in the preaching ministry, regardless of background.

Thus, there are reasons other than background why Luke would not be included in the list of “the circumcision.” It is risky to build a concept on evidence which is so weak, and this is the strongest evidence in the Bible that those who believe Luke was a Gentile use to prove their point.

    The Name and Profession Arguments

Proponents have also argued that the name Luke (Lucas) is, in itself, evidence that he was a Gentile. However, the very names mentioned in Col. 4 as being in “the circumcision” are Gentile names: Aristarchus, Marcus and Justus. Paul’s name itself is a Roman name, which he used throughout his ministry among the Gentiles, instead of his Hebrew name, Saul. In the same way Peter’s Hebrew name was Simon. The fact of the matter is that most Jews who lived in the Diaspora used two names: one, a Jewish name, which was used in the synagogue, and the other, a Gentile name, which was used in business. So Luke could well be the public name of a Jew who lived among the Gentiles.

Others have actually claimed that Luke’s profession as a physician would be evidence that he was a Gentile. This would assume that there were no Jewish doctors in the Roman world. Such an idea is preposterous. Christ referred to physicians in Israel on several occasions:

    “Physician, heal thyself…” (Luke 4:23)

“They that are sick have need of a physician…” (Matt. 9:12)

There is as much reason to believe that Jews were in the medical profession in ancient times as they are today.

Thus, none of the arguments supporting the idea that Luke was a Gentile are strong. It is helpful, then, to turn to the arguments that Luke was a Jew.

Arguments for Luke Being a Jew

There are several arguments that support the idea that Luke was a Jew. As has already been stated, there are no specific statements as to the background of Dr. Luke. Therefore, the only way we can know anything about Luke’s background is from inferences in the Scriptures.

The Rule: Oracles Given to Jews

After showing the sinful condition of the Jewish people, explaining how the Jews are just as much subject to sin as are the Gentiles, Paul asks the question,”What advantage has the Jew?” His answer was “Much every way, chiefly because that unto them were committed the oracles of God” (Rom. 3:1-2). The main advantage that Paul recognizes in the Jewish people was that when God gave revelation to the human race, He gave it to and through the Jews. He did not utilize the Gentile people for this purpose. This was the rule: that Jews were the vehicle for revelation. If Luke was an exception, the burden of proof is on those who would claim that he is an exception.

Thus, one has to prove conclusively that Luke was a Gentile before one should abandon the clear rule about the Jewish writing of Scripture. We must assume that Luke is a Jew unless the evidence is so overwhelming that we must conclude he is a Gentile. As we have seen above, the evidence from the lists in Colossians is so weak that it does not meet that criterion. Gentiles are blessed in many ways, especially during this Church Age, but God has never indicated that He has changed His rule of using only Jews to record His revelation.

Trophimus, Not Luke, the Cause of Paul’s Arrest

Dr. Luke was a constant companion of the Apostle Paul from the time that he joined the missionary apostle when he sailed from Troas to Europe. Luke accompanied Paul on his fateful last return trip to Jerusalem, and was an eyewitness to the arrest of Paul in the Temple in Acts 21. The crowd was greatly agitated by the presence of Paul in the Temple, and charged him with bringing Gentiles into the Temple precincts. This was a crime punishable by death. Luke explains that Paul never did bring any Gentiles into the Temple, but he was seen on the streets of Jerusalem with “Trophimus an Ephesian.” Apparently, Paul brought Trophimus with him to Jerusalem so that the apostles and the mother church there could see first-hand the fruits of his labor among the Gentiles. Even though the charge was false, they were able to spread the rumor among the people, and cause a near riot against Paul on the Temple Mount, and for this reason he was arrested.

The point is that, when the Jewish people wanted to accuse Paul of bringing a Gentile into the Temple, they chose Trophimus. Why didn’t they choose Luke, who was also with Paul, and was an eyewitness to these events? If Luke were a Gentile, it would have been far easier, and far more believable, to accuse Paul of bringing Luke with him into the Temple, rather than Trophimus. The fact that Luke was not mentioned in the accusation is a strong indication that he was not a Gentile. Luke was with Paul on several occasions when they made the various trips to Jerusalem in order to report on their missionary efforts to the apostolic church. The issue was never raised about Luke being a Gentile, although he was there in Jerusalem with Paul.

As Luke was not controversial when he travelled with Paul to Jerusalem and the Temple, our assumption must be that he was also a Jew. Thus, there was no mention of Luke as a problem when Paul was arrested.

Luke’s Intimate Knowledge of the Temple

Another argument for the idea that Luke was a Jew is that he showed such an intimate knowledge of the Temple, more than any other of the Gospel writers. When he described the announcement to Zacharias concerning the birth of John the Baptist, Luke went into considerable detail to describe the rotating selection of the Levitical priests for service according to their families. He further described the position of the priest before the altar of incense, where the angel appeared to Zacharias (Luke 1:8-20).

The fact that Luke alone of the four Gospel writers gives this account, and he does so with such vivid detail, argues for his being a Jew, familiar with the Temple procedures. One could even speculate that Luke might have been a Levite as well, as he knew so much about how the Temple operated. Is it logical to assume, without question, that Luke was a Gentile, when he had such a clear understanding of the most intimate workings of the Temple, where no Gentile was allowed to go?

    Luke’s Intimate Acquaintance with Mary

Yet another argument is the striking intimacy that Luke had with the mother of Jesus, Mary. He relates the story of the birth of Jesus primarily from Mary’s point of view, and then said that she hid these things “in her heart” (Luke 2:19, 51). How did Luke, of all the Gospel writers, get so close to Mary that he was able to find out what she had hidden in her heart? As close-knit as the Jerusalem church was, and as difficult as it must have been for Gentiles to have gotten to the “inner circle” of the apostolic leadership, it seems highly unlikely that Luke could have gotten that close to Mary if he were a Gentile.

Actually, it appears that Luke might have served Mary for a time as her personal physician. This is speculation, but how else could he have had such a close relationship with her, so that he could draw from her the details she had hidden in her heart, and had discussed with few others? Luke would have had the opportunity to consult with Mary on the occasions when Paul made his reporting trips to Jerusalem, and especially while Paul was in prison in Caesarea for two years. Such access would have been quite understandable if Luke were a Jew, but would have been most unlikely if he were a Gentile.

My conclusion is, then, that we must infer that Luke was a Jew. The idea that he was a Gentile appears to be based on nothing more than wishful thinking and tradition. The biblical evidence strongly supports the position that Luke was a Jew, and we should always believe the Scriptures over tradition, when there is a conflict between the two.

Abraham proved to God that there was NOTHING he wouldn’t give Him when he offered Issac. That’s the point in time that the Hebrews were chosen by God to receive His Word.

Who can stand next to someone so great as Abraham?

Look, as Christians we believe the Bible, BOTH testaments.

Catholics, nee Buchanan and Novak, have a long, sad history of anti-Semitism. It’s because they believe that the church replaced Israel. Unfortunately, that belief has become dominate in Christianity despite the fact that it is unbiblical.

The Catholic Church is responsible for the deaths of millions of Jews. That’s the reason the City on Seven Hills will be destroyed by a single Angel in the Book of Revelation.

As a 64 year old native Chicagoan I cut my political journalism teeth on Novak & Royko writings. I was obviously very aware of his deep snd thick anti Zionist streak. I was quite surprised, however, by his blinding hatred of Jews.

I am swayed by Debbie’s passionate, self interested, experienced observations that he was far less a man than i previously thought. Having said that, I still enjoyed many of his efforts with a pen….he really was quite a good craftsman.

Chuck: You can pat yourself on the back for enjoying Mike Royko’s columns. Royko was not only brilliant, witty, and entertaining (none of which describe Novak), but he was a non-Jew who was a philo-Semite: he loved Jews and Israel. Novak, on the other hand, was a Jews who was an anti-Semite. He hated all things Jewish and wished their death. Thus, his support for HAMAS–a scumbag who will rot in hell, indeed. DS

I enjoy reading/listening to you Debbie, have since I first ever saw you…you say what you think, damned the PC crap… something we need more of, not less of.

A1 on August 18, 2009 at 6:02 pm

I agree with almost everything you’ve said, or at least consider your opinions defensible; but I must take issue with the notion that a Jew would only “convert” to Christianity if he hated his Jewishness. I suppose that is one reason why a Jew might convert, and it may well have been the case with Novak; but I have known devout Jews, proud of their heritage and their place as God’s chosen people, who simply became convinced that Jesus was the Messiah. Most remained Jews, joining Messianic congregations where they continued to observe the Jewish traditions and holy days. You certainly are entitled to believe such people are mistaken, but it would be inaccurate to accuse them of despising their Jewishness. They don’t love Abraham or Moses less; they just love Jesus (also a Jew), as well.

And I should also note that there is no group, perhaps including Jews themselves, who are more supportive of Israel than American evangelical Christians.

RJ: In Bob Novak’s case, he genuinely hated Jews and that he was one of them. In his case, that is why he converted. Period. He didn’t love Jesus. He loved HAMAS. And Bob Novak. DS

RegularJoe on August 18, 2009 at 6:05 pm

Very sloppy work. You’re misquoting and taking out of context. Scripture must be studied in its literal, historical, and cultural context.

Take John 8.41-47 not just verse 44. Jesus is refuting the Jewish claim of being children of God (see Jn 3.5 and 1 John 3.8-10). Jesus was saying the fact that you do the deeds of the devil proves you are of the devil. Since you seek to kill me (Jesus) you must be the offspring of him who was a murderer from the begining.

Take 1 Thess 2.14-18 (don’t stop at verse 16) refers to the conflict with Satan and wicked men who oppose the truth. Both Jews and Gentile suffered perssecution from their own countrymen. The Jews were the persecutors of the churches everywhere. Among the Gentiles they caused the heathen to be stirred up against Christianity (see Acts 13.6). Jews had Rome kill Jesus; Jews killed their own prophets; persecuted the church; lived contrary to God; contrary to all men; opposed salvation of others; mulitplied sins continually. For this wrath comes upon them to the uttermost (Lev 26, Dt 28 and 32). This is not personal: this refers to all wicked men of which there are in both Hebrews and Gentiles.

    goldenmike4393 on August 18, 2009 at 6:30 pm

[The Bible commands us to pray for the peace of Jerusalem (Psalm 122:6), to speak out for Zion’s sake (Isaiah 62:1), to be watchmen on the walls of Jerusalem (Isaiah 62:6) and to bless the Jewish people (Genesis 12:3).

with your position.

Thank you.

goldenmike4393 on August 18, 2009 at 5:11 pm]

HAHAHAHA!!!.That’s the Old Testament, dumbass. Try the New:

John 8:44 (King James Version)

“Ye[Jews] are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.”

1 Thessalonians 2:

“14For ye, brethren, became followers of the churches of God which in Judaea are in Christ Jesus: for ye also have suffered like things of your own countrymen, even as they have of the Jews:

15Who both killed the Lord Jesus, and their own prophets, and have persecuted us; and they please not God, and are contrary to all men:

16Forbidding us to speak to the Gentiles that they might be saved, to fill up their sins alway: for the wrath is come upon them to the uttermost.”

[Jesus did NOT call Jews children of the devil. He was Jewish himself for cryin out loud. politicalchef on August 18, 2009 at 3:47 pm]

You need to get a grip. Condemning someone to hell because you have intellectual differences is pathological. Novak didn’t fund HAMAS, and you put their murders on his hands? Do you put the blood of innocent Palestinians on your hands? You want to pretend the Israeli/Palestinian conflict is a simple with clear righteousness. How dare someone have a view sympathetic to the Palestinian or even an aspect of the Palestinian plight. By you arrogance they are doomed to hell. You have wallowed in spin so long you’ve lost sight of objectivity. You’re so omniscient, you know he hated looking like a jew.

You need to take 5 steps back and get a grip.

S: Hilarious. Shawn calls the support of homicide bombers–mass murderers, who murdered thousands of innocent people–an intellectual difference. Are you sure you’re not an ACLU lawyer or Obama spokesman? You sound just like ’em. Bob Novak hated Jews and that he himself was a Jew. You don’t need to be omniscient to know that. He oozed it. Gets upset that I note that an apologist and enabler of mass murder will go to hell, then condemns me to hell for pointing it out. What a joke you are. Get a fricking clue, you terrorism apologist. Go pollute on an Islamic website. DS

shawn on August 18, 2009 at 6:29 pm

Sorry, support for Hamas and its activities is more than a simple intellectual difference. Hamas has called for the destruction of Israel and Jews in general, as has its financial supporter Iran. Robert Novak, even if he was too cheap or timid to furnish monetary assistance to Hamas, clearly furnished them with plenty of intellectual cover through his pen and appearances. Robert Novak even offended standard liberals(see above)with his fairly open anti-Semetism.

That much is clear even if those who want to praise him now whitewash his background. That’s something no decent person should do. Like Debbie, let’s call a spade a spade and make sure the world knows in death who the real Robert Novak was. He will not be missed.

NormanF on August 18, 2009 at 6:57 pm

Yes, the solution to the Israeli/Palestinian conflict is simple and with clear righteousness. All the Palestinians have to do is quit killing Jews, bargain in good faith, and keep their agreements. Then they would have land, a country, recognition, and the opportunity to seek worldly success.

But since they do not, it’s not going to happen.

Shawn knows that Novak was a racist. Its not respectable any more in our polite society to openly embrace racism with one exception. Namely, its politically correct to hate Jews and to unleash a torrent of abuse upon Israel. Such is the time we live in. Some people don’t want to face the truth. But its not going to go away and self-hating Jews like Weinberger and Novak are far more lethal to Jews than non-Jewish anti-Semites, because they make it respectable to wish Jews dead. That happens sometimes with born Jews. For some reason, they need to ingratiate themselves in a non-Jewish society by denying their own heritage. And those who do are sick to the core in a way those who love their own people will never be. So let’s banish the myth Jews cannot hate their own people. There have been such Jews in the past and there will be others in the future.

I miss Mike Royko. I used to read his column everyday. I sometimes wonder if he would still side with these left-wing loons running the Democrat Party now. The fact that Novak and Buchanan are both Catholics is something that I noted a while back myself. I don’t think most Catholics are anti-Semites, but considering the ages of these men, it doesn’t surprise me that they still cling to things most Americans have long since discarded. I’ve never understood their hatred of Israel and support of Hamas and presumably Hezbollah. I’m not ashamed to say that I spent six months in prison for threatening a guy that supports those groups. Although I regret doing it, I would never apologize for it. I would never desecrate the memory of our Marines whom they killed by apologizing. It never ceases to amaze me how many Americans there are that don’t have a clue how dangerous these terrorists are.

I didn’t know about Robert Novak’s anti-Semitic writings and musings until I saw this article. Then I did some more searching and found some old writings that Jackie Mason pointed out from an article a few years back. It’s appalling that he had such a blinding hatred for a nation and its people that’s been our staunchest ally. Shame on him for having such hatred in his heart for a people that’s sacrificed so much to live in freedom amongst the tyrants that surround them!

Bill on August 18, 2009 at 8:11 pm

“Christianity is a Judeo Christian belief. So being anti Jewish state logically could not be a true Christian or conservative.”

Dr. Cuthberth- clearly you know neither Christianity, nor the Crime of Deicide with which the Jews called down God’s wrath for all time, that no Pope, Council or Patriarch can rescind. “His BLOOD be on us, AND ON OUR CHILDREN.’ A racial/covenantal curse cannot be lifted by one man- only by those who have called down God’s wrath. And the method of Absolution? Believe in Christ as Messiah. Bishop Williamson knows this- it’s a pity Benedict [Arnold] DOESN’T.

Christianity IS Hebraic, to be sure. But it is NOT Jewish. Never has been, never will be, until (and unless) it ceases to BE Christianity.

For Christianity is the SUPERCESSION of faithless Hebrews who turned over ‘the Lord of Glory’ to the Edomites/Idumeans, as Josephus wrote in AD 50, who were (like the Zionists of today) USING the People of God for THEIR OWN PERVERTED ENDS. From Phariseeism/Edomitism came Talmudism, and from that came the conversion of the Khazars, some 700 years AFTER CHrist’s resurrection… or don’t you know your history? And you a ‘doctor in israel’!

Judaism (so-called) today is a counterfeit faith, based on the Talmud, and NOT on the Bible. Saints, sages, Bishops, Popes, Martyrs, Fathers of the Faith, and most of European literati KNEW THIS, until the great ‘Disinformatia’ of the Bolshevik revolution called any opinion NOT favorable to Talmudism, with the smear of ‘anti-semitism’… which is what the lovely Ms. Schlussel is doing in this column, to be blunt.

I knew that Novack WAS a Jew, but I did not know he had BECOME a ‘Hebrew’ by conversion to belief in Christ. I can see now, that he is one of the few ‘righteous Gentiles’ who, in leaving Talmudic ZioNAZI racial supremacism, became a part of the “Israel of God” [Gal. 6:16]. Debbie, darling, I believe you should have meant ‘HEAVEN’ is his final resting place. Clearly. It is those who still think themselves righteous by their works of a dead law, and a false ancestry, who remain damned.

EVERYTHING NOVACK SAID OF ISRAEL/ZIONISM is true. God blesses Truth, but despises lying duplicity. Perhaps you who believe the Jews should repent, just as Novack seems to have done. For Christ said of them, ‘YOu are of your father, the Devil, and the deeds of your father you will do.’ – John 8:44

A little word of advice for our resident Brother Nathaniel wannabe ( who by the way claims to be a former jew). The Bolshevik, were adherents to an ideology that espouses hatered if all religions, and especially singles out “jewish capitalists ” for particular scorn. Are you familiar with the Soviet Union Station almost unconditional support for the Arab countries and various other Muslim countries against the state of Israel? So that being the case, why would they defend the Talmud , or the holy book of any religion? Your either not the sharpest tool in the shed, or your trying to deflect attention away from your own kinds past collaborations with various communist and Marxist regimes by playing the Jooooo card.

Outstanding column!!! For decades Evans and Novak were spewing anti-Semitic filth, yet very few called them on it. Why? (Because they were in the media perhaps?)

Robert Novak, who was a self-hating Jew, was the dream partner for the anti-Semitic Rowland Evans. He could write hateful columns and yet avoid being called anti-Semitic by pointing out that his partner was a Jew. Truly disgusting.

I’m rather disappointed to find out Michelle Malkin is far from being the friend of Israel that I thought she was, and that she as well as some other conservatives are giving cover and praise to anti-Semites just because they happen to fellow “conservatives”.

BTW, perhaps the worst self-hating Jew running around these days is “Rabbi” Daniel Lappin. This scumbag actually plagerizes Mein Kampf in his attacks on his fellow Jews.

S: Amen, Daniel Lapin is a sorry excuse for a human being, not to mention a Jew or a rabbi. His pandering to Islam and Islamo-cheerleader Grover Norquist, and his taking of money from Jack Abramoff’s conduits is nauseating. He will rot in hell right next to Novak when he goes. I can’t wait for the day someone investigates where all the money is that went to his one-man self-flagellation machine of an organization. DS

“Fr. John,”

I don’t think you are really a priest in communion with Rome if you call Pope Benedict, “Arnold.” I’m guessing you are a member of the Society of St. Pius X that has broken off from the Church.

I almost have an M.A. in Catholic Theology, and you are completely misrepresenting the Catholic teachings on Judaism and Jews.

Christ said the quote about being the sons of the devil to ONLY those Jews who were not really practicing the true teachings of Judaism in their day to day lives. There are many people of all faiths like this. They outwardly profess their religion but have evil hearts. (In the case of Islam, it is just an evil religion, period.)

Novak also seems not to be practicing the true teachings of the Church, judging by the way he carelessly drove in his corvette around Washington, even hitting a pedestrian and not bothering to stop.

We believe that salvation came from the Jews. Christ never ministered to Gentiles; Peter did, only several years after the preaching to Jews, and they together–Jews and Gentiles– became Christians. In fact, until the destruction of the Temple, Jewish Christians kept many of their Jewish customs. Gentile converts did not have to keep the Jewish traditions. All the apostles and early converts were Jews. This is why we Catholics believe that Catholicism is the fulfillment of the Jewish religion.

The Church has never been anti-Jewish; people who don’t understand or are not in communion with the Faith, like members of the Society of St. Pius X, have been seriously misguided in their anti-Semitism.

All the real Catholics that I know have a great love for the Jewish people and Israel and know the true evil intentions of Islam and the fraud of a “religion” that it is. It is because we know the Truth.

JM on August 18, 2009 at 9:39 pm

The man is not a priest, as least none that would be recognized as such by the Orthodox or Catholic. Also, if one wished to dispose of Jewish influence in the Christian Bible, there would be virtually nothing left, aside from perhaps the Gospel of Luke and Acts. Also, even Luke’s works, if stripped of any Jewish references or content, would amount to nothing. In short, an anti-Semetic standpoint makes no sense for an mainstream Christian.

Aside from his anti-Semitism, Robert Novak was just a bore. He looked and acted like a refugee from the 1960’s, and never changed. Mr. Novak never grew intelf. The Evans and Novak Political Report, which was started in 1963, read more like a gossip column for middle-aged politicians. Mr. Novak was never really a conservative, but a libertarian who expressed sympathy for Ron Paul’s presidential run and admired Jimmy Carter’s positions on Israel. He was a “cocktail circuit” conservative who seldom got his fingers dirty with the common man. In his way, he had much in common with Walter Cronkite.

I sense you love the Bible, too. So, I would add that the 12,000 from each of the 12 tribes of Juda will be Evangelists GREATER THAN Billy Graham!!! My mind can’t comprehent!

[Christ said the quote about being the sons of the devil to ONLY those Jews who were not really practicing the true teachings of Judaism in their day to day lives.

Bwarrrr! Jesus said that to all Jews because they rejected him and were going to put him to death! It’s right there for anyone to see it. You,goldenmike4393,Dr. Cuthberth, are really making asses of yourselves here. Fr. John is the only other person here(besides myself) who has a clue what Jesus said and meant.

You seem to take one tiny bit of an article, Catholicism, and run with it. The point of the article was that Robert Novak was a very rabid anti-Semite. He expressed animosity towards Jews and Israel throughout most of his career, despite being a Jew himself. The point Debbie made was that even after converting to Roman Catholicism, Roland Evans would have nothing to do with him socially. since he was still a Jew in his eyes. With such an attitude, one could rightly suspect that Mr. Novak’s conversion might not have been entered into with a right heart. This observation is in no way anti-Catholic. People convert to all sorts of faiths for the wrong reasons. If you hate Jews as a race, you cannot be a good Catholic, no matter how many times you go to mass, matins, or vespers.

Some people will never get it. Keep up the great posts.

Where did you get the latest updated information about the Saudis giving Israel the go ahead to fly over them to bomb Iran? The latest information I found was from a July 5, 2009 article in the Jerusalem Post about this, but it also stated that the Prime Minister’s Office in Saudi Arabia issued an official denial. I hope that it is true that the Saudis do give Israel permission for fly overs. And if Israel does take action, I just hope it is nuclear in nature. Turning Iran into a glass parking lot would be a great example to the rest of the world on how to deal with rogue, tyrannical, Muslim terrorist supporting regimes with nukes.

    Re-post:

Iran wants to strike Israel, Britain and New York. In return, we have a plan on the table for preemptive strikes to eight (8) countries. It makes Retirement Planning look silly, really.

As soon as it leaked (three weeks ago) that Saudi Arabia had given Israel permission (SA is fearful of Iran, too), it denied it WHICH TELLS ME IT’S TRUE! I think Egypt is pressuring Barak HUSSEIN Obama to do something about Iran, too. Wasn’t Mabarak in DC just a few days ago????

Debbie,
You took the words right out of my mouth….He croaked not a minute too soon. Had he lived in Europe, he would have been a Kapo for Hitler. The real clincher is that he was pissed that Jews were influencing BOTH parties. Kind of like Pat Buchanan, who would rather side with Lyndon Larouche, Qadafi, Saddam, etc than with Jews who happened to be right wing…..I’ve heard it said among Catholics that the devil or devil worshippers cannot stand to be inside a church; they will get cold shivers and get sick if they enter. Similar to Buchanan and Novak’s behavior when they find that there are Jews that happen to share some of their conservative beliefs. They are Jew-haters FIRST and “conservatives” second.

Novak was a very evil man. God bless Israel and the Eternal Jewish people for fighting the good fight.

So, according to Mr.Novak, Palestinians allege that this is worse than the former South African racial segregation. Did it ever occur to Mr. Novak that Palestinians also allege that Israel is flooding the Arab world with aphrodisiac chewing gum and AIDS infected prostitutes?

I’ve suspected for a long time that a lot of people are faking when they pretend to be moved by Anne Frank, may the al-mighty avenge her blood. For instance, anyone who, like Mr. Novak, calls Israel an apartheid country, is stone cold unmoved by Anne Frank, because he thinks Anne Frank and her family were running an apartheid attic.

Ms. Schlussel: Wait a minute. You say you hope Novak meets some of the blown to bits victims of Hamas on his way down under. Don’t you realize that places the HAMAS VICTIMS in hell?

Maybe Evans didn’t invite Novak to his parties because, away from work, he didn’t LIKE him? Gilbert and Sullivan reportedly couldn’t stand each other.

MRS: Try reading the piece again. I wrote “ON HIS WAY DOWN,” not when he gets there. The only one I placed in hell in this article is the guy who deserves to rot there, Robert Novak. DS

Dont know much about Novak, seem him mostly on CNN. Don’t wont to pile on about someone who I never met personally. I will leave it up to God who is sent to Hell. Out.

Debbie, thanks for informing us about the anti-semitic Novak.

Thanks again Debbie for not budging an inch with Bob Grant this morning!

Took him to the woodshed!

Calls himself a pro yet was completely unprepared.
