Embarrassing: Charity Struggled to Sell Tickets to This “Conservative”; Had to Slash Tix Prices in Half

By Debbie Schlussel

If you’re trying to raise money for your charity, don’t hire Michelle Malkin to speak at your fundraising dinner, or you’ll have to scramble to sell tickets, and cut ticket prices in half. That’s what a Detroit-area school found out the hard way.

Tonight, Oakdale Academy, which markets itself as a “classical Christian” school run by Hillsdale College, will host Fraudkin as the keynote speaker at its annual fundraising dinner. But the charity struggled to sell tickets and was forced to spend considerable money running non-stop radio ads on Detroit’s talk radio station, WJR, in the three weeks before the dinner. Then, the charity had to slash many of the ticket prices and the prices of some sponsorships in half because, even with the non-stop radio ads, the market apparently didn’t want to pay to hear Malkin pretend to be a conservative. Just days before the event, the Oakdale website indicated that most of its sponsorships for the dinner were unsold (and the site still appears that way).

From Oakdale Academy’s website:

malkindinner

The ticket price slashing for the Malkin event reminds me of Bette Midler in “Ruthless People,” when her unhappy husband doesn’t want to pay the kidnappers’ ransom, and they are forced to cut their ransom demand in half. “Help, I’ve been kidnapped by Kmart!” she exclaims. Help, Oakdale Academy’s speaker is Kmart!

Oakdale Academy wouldn’t say how much it spent on the radio ads it had to resort to in order to sell tickets or if the event will be profitable. But Malkin demands a reported $20,000-$30,000 per speech plus First-Class airfare and expenses. After I called and asked about it, the school posted on its website that “tickets are extremely limited” (and yet still urges people to call to buy them and posts the phone number, which wasn’t there before). But you’ll note that, in fact, most table and group ticket sponsorships are still listed as available. Nice try, though. But very embarrassing for the school and for Malkin.

It’s interesting that Oakdale chose Malkin in the first place, since she has written that she is strongly in favor of legalizing drugs and she lives in Colorado, where she probably voted in favor of legalizing marijuana. It would be a safe bet that most of the parents at Oakdale’s “classical Christian” school oppose legalizing pot because they care more about the risk to their children than Malkin cares about the risk to her own kids. And there are other disturbing things Malkin has done as a “parent” that would alarm any responsible parent and any decent conservative. But, hey, she’s made a lot of money with this act of pretending to be a conservative and practicing the mantra, “do as I say, not as I do.” I wonder if they teach plagiarism as a legitimate academic strategy at that school, since plagiarism is one of Malkin’s fave practices.

Malkin, FYI, is represented by Premiere Speakers Bureau, which made oodles of money with Sean Hannity, conspiring in his Freedom Concert Fraud and ripping off wounded American soldiers and the children of fallen (a rip-off which Malkin defended).

If you need to raise money for your charity or cause, Michelle Malkin is a losing investment.

***

By the way, on her self-masturbation site, Twitchy, which she recently sold for a reported $2-3 million, Malkin cattily criticized one of her far superior self-perceived rivals, Ann Coulter, and made a big deal about Coulter not selling as many books as she used to. Maybe somebody should look in da mirror. If you’ve ever heard Fraudkin try to give a “speech,” you’ll know why tickets don’t sell.

Michelle Malkin is a dud as a speaker. She is not even on television that much anymore, which should tell you something.

Thanks for the story and the publication Debbie, I didn’t know that Malkin favored legalizing marijuana (that’s a subject where I could careless on, its NOT a moral issue either, since pot is legalized in Colorado, it should be taxed like tobacco, alcohol and pornography are taxed), but in any event, you’re actually correct in your analysis DS that this sounds pretty like Sean Hannity’s Freedom Concert(s), which at the end of the day turned out to be a total and complete fraud with tons of wasteful spending, that’s what this event of Michelle Malkin sounds like, wasteful spending and total “profiteering”?

Debbie dear, you are in a class by yourself. Even though I like sassy Miss Coulter much like an aging professional wrestling character, she can be exhausting in content and context. Malkin too can be amusing, but she is clearly not an original talent. There is room for everyone in this big old world, and your are my favorite. So there!

You know, at one time, I enjoyed Michelle Maulkin,(one time she handed one of those new leaders of the black panther party his ass)but now she annoys me, I haven’t seen here in a long time, but whatever it is, I don’t like her anymore, she doesn’t seem real I suppose, as if she talks out the side of her neck.

I miss my Skunky, I miss her contributions, I don’t know how much more of this I can take.

Big D on March 7, 2014 at 6:52 pm

Quick question.

What happened to Skunky? Now that I think about it, I haven’t seen any recent posts.

Thanks

“…plagiarism is one of Malkin’s fave practices.”

Good job slamming that insipid phony. She’s always annoyed the Hell out of me.

Many years ago I thought that “Big-C” conservatives like Malkin and Coulter would make things right.

Then I realized that they’re more like cults than websites/books/blogs/forums.

I used to post in Little Green Footballs and The Anti-Idiotarian Rottweiler and behaved like the little dittohead that I aspired to be. But then I noticed that if you have to create a huge-ass website to simply state that you are not a cowardly hipster-progressive statist (“liberal” to all the shorthand readers), then there is a problem with your commitment to the conservative cause – which by the way is the true liberal cause, the cause that the villainous liberals of conservative lore tend to forget.

Don’t get me wrong: like Malkin, I’m for the legalization of marijuana as well as for its centralized regulation and taxation (remember: Prohibition was once seen as a great idea). And I do believe that everyone, regardless of blah blah blah get an equal opportunity to better themselves. But turning yourself into a brand, marketing an ideology as if it were a necessity like feminine hygiene products – it screams “wrong” and “cheap” at all levels.

Regardless of political stripe, intentions and presence of common sense, no political commentator/pundit should prostitute oneself in return for financial compensation. If I were to do that, I would prefer a modest compensation to cover transportation and accommodation. And I’d do it for CHEAP!

I can probably do a better job than Malkin anyways. Like her, I’m a minority. And rather than slam Obama-lama-ding-dong (everyone’s doing it anyways, eh?) I’d talk about practical things, like the importance of sciences, language, arts and staying in school, with some sidebars alluding to the wisdom of Jello Biafra of the Dead Kennedys and Buzz Osborne of the Melvins. Just a suggestion.

In fact, since I’m currently gainfully unemployed, I’d take the gig in her place. As I’ve said, I’d do it for cheap. (I wonder if Shoney’s has vouchers – I’d love me a bottomless pot of coffee.)

Just saying, eh?

The Reverend Jacques, you sound interesting… do you have a facebook / twitter account or website?

Ilan on March 7, 2014 at 9:15 pm

I’m so glad someone asked after Miss Spunky Skunky. I too have noticed the absence of her posts. I tried to go back in time to locate her last posts for clues as to why she might have absented herself. But Debbie’s archive search thingy isn’t very comprehensive.

Skunky, I hope all is well with you. I miss your commentary.

Kairn on March 7, 2014 at 11:29 pm

I’d rather pay to hear Debbie speak.

Jeff_W on March 8, 2014 at 1:09 am

The real question from this post should be: Why are you, Debbie, opposed to legalization of Marijuana? REAL conservatives do not want the federal government, or state/county/city government, telling grown adults what to eat/drink/smoke. You, apparently, feel otherwise. I guess you are for small government, except for personal consumption. Then, you want BIG GOVERNMENT.

Nobody, in the history of mankind, has ever died from marijuana. You cannot say the same thing about cigarettes (lung cancer) and alcohol (liver damage). Your kosher brisket kills more people per year than Marijuana.

Marijuana is not a gateway drug anymore than milk is a gateway drink for beer. People who smoke pot don’t want heroin. They want doritos and Pringles.

The real reason there is a war on marijuana is that the federal government knew it made people passive and not fit for war. We would never beat the commies and Nazis if people were too passive. Meanwhile, the drug dealers reap the rewards. Notice how there are never Budweiser or Marlboro cartels.

I am looking forward to your “rebuttle”, even though I know you can’t. Maybe I will change your mind! Probably not though. You are set in your ways. The good news for me is that my way is more popular.

I win.

We’re talking about Detroit here.
I didn’t think there were enough conservatives left in Detroit to fill a phone booth.
So unless you are booking one of the top ten conservative speakers in the entire nation I would think you would have a hard time getting a crowd.
Still this group should have done there homework better before booking Malkin.

Steve G on March 8, 2014 at 11:15 am

I probably should have asked this sooner so please forgive me. What happened to Skunky? Her posts are one of the major reasons why I like coming here. I sincerely hope that everything is alright in her world because she like Debbie is pretty sharp when it comes to sticking it to the libtards as well as the crazy Islamists.

Ken b on March 8, 2014 at 2:41 pm

To Ken B. et al. I’m asking myself the same thing.

Skunky has a Twitter account. I’ll check up on her & find out how’s she doing.

We aging effers gotta stick together, you know.

The Reverend Jacques on March 8, 2014 at 5:02 pm

You’re absolutely right Rev. We old school brethren do need to stick together. I have 18-26 year old nieces and nephews and to them someone like Obama is just so awesome that it makes me want to hurl. Anyway maybe I should get with the program and sign up for a Twitter account so that I can reach more peeps like you and Skunky.

    Ken b on March 9, 2014 at 12:48 pm

Skunky, come back! Hope we hear from you soon.

PW: Skunky will be back soon. We all miss her and she knows that, but she said she had to take a break from commenting due to her busy work schedule. She says she will be back during the summer. So stay tuned. DS

Debbie I don’t know where you get your pictures of fools like Michelle Malkin or someone like the First Cape Buffalo. It’s also funny that you put her pic next to one of a toilet as it looks like she’s going on one. Like I said before I used to like her especially when she subbed for the blowhard O’Really on his now unwatchable show. She has however become another of this fake CINOs/RINOs that permeate our radios and TVs everyday. Your expose of her last year let me know a few things about her and how she is a very jealous person of other conservative women such as you and Coulter(who BTW is another big disappointment with her love of that fake RINO putz McConnell). Malkin just doesn’t seem to be able to articulate her ideas well. When you let a moronette jerk like Tamyra Holder beat you on Vannity’s radio show not once, not twice but three times then you just suck. I guess this is why she isn’t on TV or the radio much anymore. Once more she defended the indefensible with the whole Freedom Concert scamathon. Funny how Vannity doesn’t do those anymore. To me anyone who knowingly took part in and defended that whole scam deserves what’s coming to them. I for one wouldn’t pay 5 bucks let alone 500 to hear Malkin “speak”. I would however go and hear a smart, articulate, attractive, conservative lawyer from Detroit speak though. Debbie do you know someone who fits that bill?

Ken b on March 9, 2014 at 12:37 pm

Debbie – Thanks so much for opening my eyes up to these scumbag “conservative” losers like Malkin and Hannity. I used to be clueless about them and thought, hey they’re conservatives and on Fox News so they must be truthful and honest! I’m truly embarrassed to say that I used to check out that “Woman of Color” website daily. Well that was a few years ago and I haven’t been on that crap site for almost 2 years now and counting. Thanks Debbie for saving me. You are great 🙂

Erik G. on March 9, 2014 at 1:48 pm

What organization is nuts enough to pay Michelle Malkin $20-$30K to speak at a banquet? Aren’t there better causes?

Primetime on March 9, 2014 at 8:45 pm

Debbie, I’m not politically conservative, so I probably disagree with much of what you post. But what puts you leagues ahead of Michelle Malkin is that you allow people to easily post dissenting views on your site. You post strong viewpoints and are not scared of the vigorous debate they will generate. Not with Malkin. For years, Malkin appeared to have not allowed or either didn’t post comments by anyone who disagreed with her views. Your description of her site as being “mastrabatory” is very accurate!

Frankie on March 10, 2014 at 1:57 pm

I think it was in the 2008 election cycle. There was a female
guest host on the Hugh Hewitt show, who interviewed Malkin.
I think it was Carol Platt Liebau.

She admitted that even if she got all she wanted, she would
still work for the destruction of the Republican party! Up
until that point, I was a marginal Malkin fan.

I am the first to admit that McCain was not an ideal candidate,
but to suggest that Obama was preferable to McCain was a case
of derangement unlike anything I have ever seen!
