Hmmm… my first reaction when I heard about this yesterday was the same as yours Debbie, since the only thing I saw yesterday was the same picture you have at the top. But I watched the video here and this is what I saw: she’s riding on top of what looks like a street vendor pushcart, which often has an umbrella pole. She just stood there holding the pole (probably for balance while the cart was moved), and she only crouched once at the beginning, which is when the top pic must have been snapped. Granted, at 16, with an audience of pre-teens and young teens, she doesn’t need to be dancing around dressed as a “tart” anyway, especially with a big cross dangling from her neck (my my what WOULD J do???)… but I didn’t see real evidence in the vid of her acting like a “ho stripper”…

SDP: Where’s the umbrella? There isn’t one. Of course, they try to camouflage it and excuse it with an ice cream stand underneath. But it’s a stripper pole, plain and simple. DS

OK, Debbie. I think you are off base on this. Maybe in your mind it was a stripper pole, but looked like an umbrella on a push cart to me. Granted, the shorts were skimpy, but no worse than what a lot of teens wear in the malls.

I’m not a fan of Miley, but I can’t condemn this either.

Perhaps some of you are right in that other 16 year olds wear the same type of clothes, but this girl is supposed to be a role model for young girls, whether she likes it or not. She is in the public spotlight. As I have heard someone say, you cannot justify bad behavior by pointing to other people’s far worse bad behavior. If I had a 16 year old daughter, I would not be whoring her out like this.

Also, even though Miley has not shown these attributes, isn’t this kinda the way Britney Spears started out?

Did you also notice when Miley introduced Britney Spears at this same show, she said she wanted to be like her? Who in their right mind wants their daughter to turn out like that train wreck? Britney also completely ignored Miley when she came out for her award. Our Country really is going to hell in a handbasket thanks to Hollywood!! I am really glad Miley thanked God at the end of that lovely performance, I am sure he was really proud of her.

When “hannah montana” first came into mega public popularity I saw a local Detroit mom standing in the rain at 5a., in the dark, in the morning, with her daughter, waiting to get those “hot” tickets to see the “hannah montana” show. I remember thinking, “What kind of a mother would set such a gutter level standard for her daughter? Just wait until hannah graduates into stripping.” And, unfortunately it looks like hannah is well on her way… Everyone is being far too charitable to these deadbeat, loser, go-alonger-groupie parents(?) Without the gigantic cha-ching of American parents giving their greedy, self-centered, immature kids everything, the “stars” would Never Shine. It’s the parents. They are negligent and derelict in their duties. It is Not a parents place to be a “Friend” to their child. It is their Duty and Responsibility to set high standards. Seeing stories like this only graphically illustrates the utter abdication of responsibility that so many parents exhibit. Idiocracy here we come…

This performance isn’t a big deal. She’s dancing on an icecream cart. She dropped down once near the pole (there was no thrusting or grinding) and was just hanging onto it otherwise while being pushed around. The problem with the performance is that everyone is making a big freaking deal about it. Guess what? Your 6 year old only knows the term stripper pole because you probably gasped is out during the performance. Your 6 year old thinks she’s just dancing on an icecream cart and wouldn’t think anything of it until YOU made a big deal of it. And if it bothers you that much, YOU’RE THE PARENT. Take some initiative and don’t buy her products or let your child watch the show if you really think its harmful. That will have way more of an effect that posting on a blog that isn’t going to have any effect.
