Narrated Hisham’s father: ‘Aisha said, “Allah’s Apostle was bewitched, so he invoked Allah repeatedly requesting Him to cure him from that magic).” Hisham then narrated the above narration. (See Hadith No. 658, Vol. 7) ”

Several of Nadia_fan’s references do, in fact, support his/her argument –
Exodus 31:14 calls for the death of anyone “desecrating” the Sabbath; 35:2 prescribes death to anyone who works on the Sabbath day. The Deuteronomy passage prescribes the death penalty for adultererous couples. The last passages cited, however, indeed found in Numbers, cannot be construed as an open ended prescription for stoning, as it applies only to a specific situation occurring at a particular place and time, that time having ended thousands of years ago. Now we can return to the other passages cited. What do we make of them? Well, I am no Biblical scholar, but evidently those who are, and were, have found ways of re-interpreting these passages, as no one within the Jewish community has been put to death for adultery or for working on the Sabbath since well before the time of Muhammed. In Muhammed’s time, the Jews of Madinah had long ago abandoned stoning as the punishment for adultery, although Muhammed, according to various hadiths, berated and reviled the rabbis for their refusal to impose such a penalty, interpreting their aversion to such bloody practices as sacrilege and defiance of Allah’s will. So the humanitarianism and abhorrence of killing shown by Jewish leaders becomes, in effect, a causus belli for the fanatical, vengeful, sanctimonious, and bloodthirsty Muhammed, a justification to villify and attack the Jewish community. If only Islam could be reinterpreted, reformed, made compassionate, like Judaism and Christianity (or, for that matter, Buddhism, Hinduism, and Baha’iism)!
